McSWAIN, SHIRLEY YORKE - age 81, of Knoxville, formerly of Naperville, Ill., passed away Friday, April 13, 2001 at Westbury Care Center in Lisle, Ill. She was born January 15, 1920, in Highland Park, Mich. Mrs. McSwain grew up in Highland park, Mich. She met her future husband, Charlton "Mac" McSwain, while both were working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Detroit and they married March 1, 1946. Mrs. McSwain lived in Knoxville, before moving to Naperville in 1958. Mrs. McSwain was employed by North Central College, Naperville, and was a member of the First Congregational Church of Naperville. Mrs. McSwain and her husband retired to Knoxville in 1976. She was an avid bridge player. Mrs. McSwain was preceded in death by her husband, Mac McSwain in 1982, and by a brother, Bob Yorke. She is survived by two children, Scott McSwain of San Carlos, Calif., and Lynn (Bill) Esser of Naperville, Ill.; two grandchildren, Meghan and Mike Esser of Naperville, Ill., and a sister in law, Mary Yorke of Calif. Visitation was held Tuesday April 17 at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, Naperville, Ill. A private interment icon will be held at Naperville cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Knoxville at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society DuPage Area office, 999 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn, Ill. 60137. Friedrick-Jones Funeral Home, in charge of arrangements.

PARSONS, CAROLYN - age 60 of Clinton, passed away Friday, April 20, 2001 at her residence. She was a member of the Tennessee Hollow Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth & Faye Stonecipher Hayes. Survivors: daughters, Pamela Parsons Rainey & husband, Wesley, of Caryville, Lesa Parsons of Los Angeles, Calif., Karan Parsons of Clinton; sons, Jeffrey Knight & wife, Barbara of Andersonville, Allen Parsons of Clinton; sisters, Peggy Weatherford & husband, Warren of White Pine, Tenn., Brenda Huckaby & husband, Harold of Clark Range, Tenn., Gail Seiber & husband, Archie of Lake City, Kendra Fox of Powell; brothers, Dave Hayes & wife, Marie of Dearborne Heights, Mich., Jim Hayes & wife, Winfrey of Briceville, Gary Hayes of Briceville, Kenneth Hayes & wife, Melissa of Briceville; grandchildren, Stacey, Ashley, Melissa, Adam, Brandy, and Kaylan. The family will receive friends, Sunday April 22, 2001 from 6-9 p.m. at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City. Funeral services will be Monday April 23, 2001 at 3 p.m. at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Archie Seiber officiating. Interment icon will follow at Circle cemetery in Briceville. PHIPPS, GLENDA KIRBY - age 61 of Cartersville, Ga. formerly of Maryville passed away Saturday morning, April 21, 2001 at the family home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

REEDER, CLARENCE DALE - of Louisville, born February 17, 1928, passed away April 19, 2001 at University of Tennessee Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and a brother. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife, Hazel Reeder; children, Dayna Green of Switzerland, Debbie Weston & her husband of Maryville, Clarence Reeder & wife, Gwen of Corryton, Linda Reeder & husband, John of Maryville; one brother; two sisters; grandchildren, Samantha, Corey, Jeffery, & Chelsea; as well as several adopted children & grandchildren. ROMINES, STEVEN LUTHER WILLIAM, SR. - age 50, of Powell, passed away Friday morning, April 20, 2001, at home. He was of the Lutheran faith. Veteran of US Navy. SANDS, MRS. MARY KATHERINE OLIVER - age 77 of Knoxville, departed this life at 12 midnight on Saturday April 21, 2001 following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She will be greatly missed by her children, Jerry Oliver, Joyce Anderson, Pearl Ray, Clayton Sands, Archie Sands, Connie Norris, Hazel Gheen, MaryAnn Baggerly, Darlene Ellis, Barbara Collins, Lisa Rose, Benny Sands, and Peggy Washam; several grandchildren; and great grandchildren; sisters, Pearl Weaver and Vergie Walden; along with several nieces and nephews. SCOTT, MARLENE JETT RAY - of Ten Mile, Tenn. died Friday, April 20, 2001 in Charleston, SC. Services will be held at 11 a.m. graveside at Greenwood cemetery, 3500 Tazewell Pike on Monday, April 23, 2001. Family and friends will meet at Greenwood cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Monday. The family will receive friends on Sunday April 22, from 5-7 p.m. at Stevens Mortuary, 1304 Oglewood. Born in Knoxville, Tenn., Marlene was the daughter of the late Dorothy Smith and Guy Rollngs Jett. She was the Chief Executive Officer of Knoxville Blue Print & Supply Company. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. Marlene was a strong and wonderful mother, sister and friend. She was an avid liberal Democrat who lived the courage of her convictions by supporting civil rights, women's rights, historical preservation and women's education. Her passions were genealogy and gardening. She left a trail of flowers and trees wherever she passed. The mountains were a source of her strength and character. Her southern heritage grew deeper as she searched for and found the generations of family who came before her. She will be remembered with love as a brave and beautiful flower of the field. Survivors include: daughters and sons in law, Michelle Ray and Michael D. Shain of Greenville, SC, Whitney Scott and Jeremy H. Biggs of Knoxville, Tenn.; sons and daughters in law, R. Michael Ray and Pamela Bunch of Heiskell, Tenn., Guy R. and Mindy Hall Ray of Ten Mile, Tenn.; grandchildren, Katherine, Lee and Dorothy Shain, Tristan Michael Ray and soon to be born baby Biggs; sister, Judith Jett of Charleston, SC; nephews and their wives, Joshhua B. and Elizabeth Whitworth of Charleston, SC, I. SMITH, RUBY H. - age 73 of West Knoxville, passed away early Saturday morning, April 21, 2001. Ruby was a member of Hines Valley Baptist Church. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Survivors: daughters and sons in law, Darlene and Donald Townsend with whom she made her home, Debra and Dewayne Isbell of Lenoir City; grandchildren, Stacey Jones and husband, Rev. Randall Jones, Daniel Townsend, Sr. and wife, Debra, Amanda Elliott and Matthew Isbell all of Lenoir City; great grandchildren, Daniel Townsend Jr., Rachel Jones and Tyler Montgomery; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-7:45 p.m. Monday followed by funeral services at 8 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allen Williams and Rev. Randall Jones officiating. SIMPSON, MRS. BARBARA HORRELL - of Knoxville, departed this life, April 20, 2001 at Fort Sanders Parkwest Hospital. Arrangements will be announced by Jarnigan & Son Mortuary.

STEPHENS, MRS. BETTY G. - age 59 of Athens, Tenn. went to be with the Lord Friday afternoon at her residence. She was a member of West End Baptist Church. Survivors: husband, Bob Stephens; two sons, Tony and Andy Stephens; sister, Nancy Charles; brother, Bob Cagle all of Athens, Tenn.; 4 grandchildren. Funeral services 2 p.m. Sunday in West End Baptist Church with Rev. D.C. Kirk and Rev. Herman Jordan officiating. Interment icon will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens. TEAGUE, GLENN E. - age 76 of Jacksboro, passed away Saturday morning April 21, at St. Mary's of Campbell Co. He was a member of Jacksboro First Baptist Church, Jacksboro Masonic Lodge #322 F&AM, Army veteran of W.W.II. He worked at Ellison Sanitary Supply for 43 years before his retirement. Preceded in death by wife, Louse Mariner Teague. WEDSTED, JAMES (JIMMY) - age 76 of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday April 18, 2001 at Parkwest Hospital after an extended illness. He has recently moved to Knoxville from Northern California. He was born and raised in Walnut Creek, Calif. and moved to Clear Lake, Calif. in 1977. After serving in the United States Army during World War II where he was highly decorated, including the Bronze Star, Jim worked for International Harvester/Navistar for 31 years and then retired to a life of golf, first at Buckingham Country Club, and then to the Clear Lake Riviera Yacht & Golf Club. He was also a member of the VFW, UAW, and S.I.R.S., a Calif. group for retired gentlemen. He was much loved by everyone that came in contact with him because of his gently loving nature, He was preceded in death by his first wife; two children; his parents; three sisters; and a brother, He leaves behind his adoring wife, Nathalee Aucremanne-Wedsted, formerly of Knoxville and recently returned; and several nieces and nephews. His ashes will be returned to Calif. for disbursement. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc. Tenn. Affiliate, 4205 Hillsboro Ave. Suite 200, Nashville, Tenn. 37215. WESTON, MILTON CLAY (WES) , JR. - age 87, passed away Monday, March 26, 2001, following a brief illness. Mr. Weston was residing in Ft. Myers, Florida. Mr. Weston was born in Pennington Gap, Va., on January 14, 1914, to the late Milton Clay, Sr. and Loula May Headen Weston. Mr. Weston was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Zelma Chaney Weston, and daughter, Rhoda Lou, as well as sisters, Jeanette Weston Hill and Elsie Weston Powers. His work took him from Maryville, Tenn. to Atlanta, Ga., and retirement took him to Fort Myers, Fla. Mr. Weston was employed by the United Steelworkers of America from 1943-1976. He was instrumental in bringing the CIO into the aluminum industry. Mr. Weston was the national negotiator for the aluminum industry and the United Steelworkers' Southeastern District Director. During World War II, he served on the War Production Board, charged with providing critical production of aluminum for military aircraft. He will be remembered for his successful strike free negotiations and for his tireless promotion of benefits for aluminum workers. Mr. Weston was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church in Maryville, Tenn., and Glenn Memorial Methodist Church in Atlanta, Ga. Mr. Weston was a member of Kiwanis for over 50 years, and an honorary Tennessee and Kentucky Colonel. He enjoyed golf and billiards. Mr. Weston is survived by his wife of the past 18 years, Rebecca Mahoney Weston of Ft. Myers, Fla.; his children, Sandra Weston Rowe of Durham, N.C., John Milton Weston of Atlanta, Ga., Jennifer Weston Coplin of Oxford, N.C., and William Clay Weston of Kerrville, Texas, and their spouses; her children, Jane Mahoney Moore of Marblehead, MA., and Harry D. Mahoney of Redbank, N.J., and their spouses, as well as a brother, John Hill Weston of Maryville, Tenn., and his wife: four sisters, Margaret Weston Stapleton of Gas City, Ind., Betty Neal Weston of Middlesboro, Ky., Wanda Weston Hopgood of Smyrna, Ga., and Kathryn Weston Beck of Silver Springs, Md.; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. Mr. Weston's family will hold a memorial service Saturday, May 19 at Peck's Memorial Methodist Church in Maryville, Tenn. The family will receive friends at the church at 2 p.m. and the service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Memorials may be sent to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Ft. Myers, FL 33908.
