Born July 13, 1918, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, April 27, 2001 at Brandywood Retirement after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. He was a member of the Tenn. Temple Baptist Church, Highland Park Ave., Chattanooga, Tenn. He was a retired salesman for National Life Insurance Co. Preceded in death by parents, Samuel Emanuel and Bertha Ann Thompson; loving friend, Vera Rosser; infant great grandchild and Sally Braswell Thompson. Survivors who will remember him always are his three children, Tommy W. Thompson, Hendersonville, Tenn., Gail Thompson Brown, Brentwood, Tenn. and Karen Thompson, Knoxville, Tenn.; 4 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild; devoted sisters, Ruby Lee Rogers, Chattanooga, Tenn. and Reva Parham, Red Bank, Tenn.; ex wife, Edith Thompson Allen, Knoxville, Tenn.; 4 nieces; 1 nephew; 11 great nieces and nephews and devoted caregiver, Sonia Huddleston. His remains are at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Hendersonville, Tenn. where the family will receive friends (today) Saturday, April 28th from 4-9 p.m. Family and friends will meet in Meigs Co., Tenn. for graveside services at Walnut Grove cemetery, Sunday April 29, 2001 at 2 p.m. Interment icon Walnut Grove cemetery, Decatur, Tenn. WILLIAMS, KENNETH MELVIN - age 76 of Knoxville passed away Thursday April 26, 2001 in Marietta, Ga. He was retired from the University of Tennessee and a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII. Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Daisy Williams. Survivors: children, Sharon Grubb, Marietta, Ga., Melvin Williams, Knoxville, Danny Williams, Knoxville, Kim Williams, Woodstock, Ga., Lois Bridges, Woodstock, Ga.; grandchildren, Reese Grubb, Julie Butler, Donald Williams, Marty Bull, Wesley Simpson, Katie Simpson, Caleb Williams; great grandchildren, Skylar Grubb, Taylor Grubb; brothers, Francis Rule, Gadsden, Ala., Jim Williams, Suisun, Calif.; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be Sunday 2 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends Saturday 6-8 p.m. at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Hwy.

Barry and wife, Saundra of Lynchburg, Va., Ron Barry and wife, Johnnie of Knoxville; grandchildren, Debbie Jones, Kim Newman, Steve Barry, Mary Hopper, Barry Sergeant, Scott Barry, Kimberly Steen; great grandchildren, Alyssa Jones, Brianna Jones, Tyler Newman, and Wesley Newman; brothers, Raymond Duncan and wife, Johnnie of Kingston, Burlie Duncan and wife, Laverne of Oliver Springs, Alfred Duncan and wife, Pansy of Oliver Springs; sisters, Ina Cox of Oliver Springs, Sue Duncan of Oliver Springs, Floella Brummitt and husband, Carl of Oliver Springs. Mrs. Barry was born March 7, 1917 in Anderson County. She has lived in this area all of her life. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where she was involved with the Bible Print Ministry. Mrs. Barry was a piano teacher who also served as a church musician. She taught Sunday school for thirty-five years. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 30, 2001 at 8 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with Pastor Garvan Walls and Rev. Keith Price officiating. Friends may call Monday, between the hours of 6-8 p.m. at the church. Burial and graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

BROYLES, DEVA ANDERSON - age 85, of Woodruff, SC, died Saturday, April 28, 2001 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, SC Member of Gallaher Memorial Baptist Church. Born in Knox County, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late William P. and Naoma Leota Anderson. Retired sales clerk of Miller's Department Store in Knoxville. Predeceased by her husband, Grover C. Broyles. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. John R. (Naoma) Cathey of Muscatine, Iowa and Mrs. Tommy L. (Connie) Nevins of Woodruff, SC; two brothers, Mr. Gilbert H. Anderson of Knoxville, Tenn., and Mr. Hoover J. Anderson of Kodak, Tenn.; and two granddaughters, Jessica and Courtney Nevins both of Woodruff. Funeral service 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 30 at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Rev. James W. McCulla officiating. BUCKNER, MRS. SARA LENA MORTON - age 80 of Maynardville, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center. Member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Retired teacher with Union County Schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Buckner; her parents, Ed and Jane Boshears-Morton; brothers, George and Albert Morton; sisters, Adele Morton and Josie Belle Overbey. Survivors are daughter and son in law, Helen and Doyle Gilbert; grandson and wife, Stacy and Lisa Gilbert; step great grandchildren, Heather and Rebecca Baker, all of Maynardville; brother and sister in law, Robert and Loni Morton of LaFollette; sisters and brothers in law, Maurene Shoun of Missouri, Vernon Morton and Delphia and Doug Eldridge of LaFollette, Novella Wynn of Nashville, Helen and Lloyd Grant of Va. and Wilma and Burgin Allen of Caryville; sister in law, Mossie Buckner of Maynardville. Funeral service will be at 8 p.m. Monday in Ailor's Chapel with Rev. Don Richardson and Rev. Glen Sufferidge officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday May 1 to proceed to Pleasant View cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. COOPER, BARBARA J. COLLINS - age 67 of Knoxville passed away Saturday April 28, 2001 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was of the Baptist faith. Preceded in death by husbands, Claude Collins & Howard Cooper; great granddaughter, Kahlee Warren. Survivors: sons & daughters in law, Michael & Carolyn Collins, Rick & Linda Collins, Steve Collins; daughter & son in law, Teresa & Jr. DeBusk; 10 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Francis Jones & Betty Bailey; step children, Becky Cheek, Howard Cooper Jr. & Cindy Jarocki. DILLS, BILLY W. - age 53 of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord Saturday afternoon April 28, 2001 at his home. Billy was a well loved man. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Ferguson Dills; father, Ralph Dills. Survivors: children and spouses, Billie Jo Trejo and husband, Manuel of Concord North Carolina, Brenda Chaffins and husband, Michael, Bobby Joe McClain and wife, Kasey, Ruby McClain and David Maples, Donna Young and husband, Tim, Scott Dills and wife, Kim, Jason Dills and wife, Candace all of Knoxville; 13 grandchildren; mother, Leona Frye Dills of Knoxville; brother and sister-in-law, Oscar and Edna Martin of Washburn; sisters, Donna Dills of Knoxville, Brenda Garrett and Bobby of Blaine, Marsha Knight and husband, Harold of Blaine; several nieces and nephews. EDDS, MR. LON H. - age 92, of Tazewell, Tenn. was born May 15, 1908, and passed away April 28, 2001 at the Claiborne County Nursing Home. He was a lifelong resident of Claiborne County. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church where he taught Young Adult Sunday school class and served a Superintendent for many years. He was a teacher, farmer, builder and poet. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Edds; grandson, John Fowler. He is survived by his son, Lon H. Edds. Jr. of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; daughters, Margaret (Edds) Fowler of Brewster, NY, Jane Edds of Kingsport, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jill Edds of Knoxville, Tenn., William E. Fowler of Hollywood, MD; and a host of relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2001 at the Claiborne Funeral Home. GORE, JEAMES ZEHNER - of South Knoxville, passed away April 28, 2001 at his home. He served in the US Navy for four years and was a graduate from the University of Tennessee. Survivors: wife, Mildred Louise Gore; children, Kathryn Gore Bates, James Zehner Gore, II, Gregory Allan Gore; grandchildren, Christopher Bates, Adam Bates, Jordan Gore, Joshua Gore, and Sarah Gore; brother and sister in law, Howard R. and Anna Kate Dyer. HALE, HAZEL WATSON - age 89, passed away Friday April 27, 2001 at Mariner Health Care Center. Mrs. Hale was born in Sevier County on Mary 7, 1911 to Jackson Louis and Margaret Ellen Tinker Watson. She married Ulysses J. Hale on Aug. 30, 1930. She was a resident of Halls Cross Roads Community since 1944. Preceded in death by husband, Ulysses; daughter, Oreda Taylor; granddaughter, Connie De La Questa; and brother, Oscar Watson. Survivors: daughter, Barbara Ethridge and husband, David; sons, Ulysses J. Hale Jr. and wife, Sharon, David L. Hale and wife, Elaine; grandchildren, Jeannean Benson, Terry Settles, Tamara Ford, Brian Davis, Monte Hale, Aaron Hale, Andrew Hale and John Hale; sisters, Macy Welch, Laura Garrett and Blanche Brashear. HAMILTON, MARTHA COLEMAN - age 81, widow of Ned Crawford Hamilton, of 216 Hamilton Drive, Tellico Plains, passed away 8:20 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2001, at her home. Member of Tellico Plains Church of God. Preceded in death by daughter, Martha Salley; great-grandsons, Freddie and Martin Lenderman. Survivors: daughter and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Ray Thomas of Tellico Plains, and Arthur Salley of Lenoir City; sons and daughters-in-law, Calvert and Ernestine Hamilton, DeLade Hamilton, and Robert and Shirley Hamilton, all of Tellico Plains; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers, Cecil and Albert Coleman, both of Athens; several nieces and nephews. KELLY, CECIL L. - age 98 of Maryville, formerly of Fountain City, passed away Friday evening at Hillcrest North health Care. Member of Fountain City United Methodist Church, and the Fidelity Sunday school class. Fifty year plus member of Bright Hope Lodge #557 F&AM, Scottish Rite and the Kerbela Temple. Founder of Kelly Food Products of Johnson City. Preceded in death by his wife, Mabel McKee Kelly; parents; three brothers and five sisters. He was the last to close the gate. Survived by daughter and son in law, Marianna and Ernie McGaughey Tulla, TX; sons and daughter in law, Cecil and Paully Kelly, Jr., Dr. Dan Kelly all of Knoxville; granddaughter, Melissa Shipman, Knoxville, Suzannah Ruland, Perland, TX, Andrea Brown, Hurst, TX, Ellssa Inman, Elk City, Okla.; grandsons, Tim and Stan Kelly of Knoxville; seven great grandchildren. KERLEY, SELDON W. (PUD) - age 78, of Maryville, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Baptist Hospital. A lifetime resident of East Tennessee, he grew up on Walden's Creek in Sevier County. He was a Veteran of World War II, a member of East Maryville Baptist Church, and was a Mason. Pud worked for ALCOA, and he was a lifelong farmer. Survivors include loving wife, Yevon; daughters, Selda, and Myra. Pud will be missed by many friends and family members. Family and friends will assemble for graveside service and interment icon 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Grandview cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 865 983-1000.
