SEXTON, GUY LEONARD, JR. - born February 23, 1927, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2001, at his home in Knoxville. He was retired from Cooper & Perry Architects, and had formerly served as Director of Physical Plant at Carson Newman College, and Architectural Engineer at Southern Railway. He served in the U. S. Navy, during World War II, aboard the USS Crosley, APD 87, and was a member of the Order of Eagles Aerie #2698, and VFW Post #1733. Mr. Sexton was preceded in death by his father and mother, Guy L. Sexton, Sr. and Frances Culton Sexton; sister, Mary Frances Sexton Cash, and sister-in-law, Wanda Clevenger. His survivors include his wife of 52 years, Thelma DeVault Sexton; son and daughter-in-law, Guy L. (Len) and Glenda Sexton; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Alan Causey; four granddaughters, Lindsay and Ashley Rae Sexton, Courtney and Whitney Causey , all of Columbus, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Ken Warren; brother-in-law, Alvin Cash; loving and devoted sister-in-law, Bobbie Marcum; brother-in-law, Dewey DeVault and his wife, Margaret, and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of E. Tennessee Oncology/Hematology Group. Family and friends will meet Saturday at the W. Adair entrance to Lynnhurst cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service with Dr. James R. Bailes officiating. Pallbearers: nephews, Martin, Mike, and Barry Cash, Mark Cole, Scrapper Marcum, and Mike DeVault. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Citico Creek Fishing Bunch. For those so desiring, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or Baptist Hospice. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

SCARBROUGH, CAROL - age 60, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Preceded in death by her father, Alpha E. Scarbrough; brother, Edward Scarbrough and sister, Virginia Friedman. Survivors: mother, Rosa Lee Wykle; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and David Wright; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Janice Powell; grandchildren, Anthony Powell, Chrissy Welch, and Cassie Wright; great-granddaughter, Amber Dawn; sister, Sandra Spencer and husband Jim; brothers, Wynn and Mickey Scarbrough; brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Pat Scarbrough; several nieces and nephews. SWAGGERTY, MARY E. - age 74 of Corryton, passed away Friday May 4, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center. She was of the Baptist faith. Preceded in death by parents, Fike & Rosie Cross and brother, Sonny Cross. Survivors: husband, Lloyd "Joe" Swaggerty of Corryton; son, William T. Gaut of Fla.; brothers in law & sisters in law, Tommy Swaggerty, Jim & Becky Swaggerty, Grace Hurst. Memorial service 4 p.m. Sunday Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev. James M. TREECE, EULA GRAY - age 80, of Cumberland Gap, passed away May 3, 2001 at Baptist Hospital. Funeral services will be Saturday 8 p.m. at Reece Valley Chapel. VALENTINE, WOODY KEN - age 61, of Maynardville, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2001, at 12:08 a.m., at St. Mary's Residential Hospice. A member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents; three brothers, one sister and son, Joey. Survived by wife, Barbara Abner Valentine; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Danny Everett; daughters, Susan Carter and Donna Crawely; son, Woody; sister, Rachel TerZino; several grandchildren; nieces and nephews. WARREN, DOROTHY MAE ADAMS - departed this life Thursday May 3, 2001 at Hillcrest North Nursing Home. Survived by one daughter, Mary (Allen) Moore; four grandchildren, Blandon (Ethel) Moore, Stefan, Torrey (Tomeko) Moore, of Atlanta, Ga. and Myletta Moore, of Knoxville; two great granddaughters. Graveside service will be held Monday, May 7, 2001 at 1 p.m. at Greenwood cemetery, Tazewell Pike. Mr. Allen Moore, officiating. Family and friends will meet at Greenwood cemetery. YOUNT, CHARLES ANDREW - age 64, passed away at his home in Sweetwater, Tenn. on Wednesday afternoon, May 2, 2001. He was born January 18, 1937 to George Doris Yount and Nora Antrican Yount in Rutledge, Tenn. He married Rachel Hammer of Rutledge, Tenn. on April 7, 1962. He was a member of the Head of Richland Baptist Church Rutledge, Tenn. He was former owner of Cherokee Manufacturing Company and former co owner of the East Tenn. Livestock Center. Owner of Charles Yount Construction Company and co owner of Valley Realty and Auction Company. He was an auctioneer for over 40 years and a member of the Tenn. Auctioneer Commission for 13 years. Served as a member of the Sweetwater Planning Commission, Sweetwater Housing Authority and the University of Tenn. Institute of Agriculture Development Board. Preceded in death by his parents, George and Nora Yount. Survivors include; wife, Rachel Yount, Sweetwater; daughters, Nora Yarbrough, Amelia Island, Fl., Pam Hagston, Charleston, SC; son and daughter in law, Tim and Rebecca Yount, Lilburn, Ga.; sister, Georgia Renfro, Blaine, Tenn.; grandchildren, Daniel, Rachel, Catie, Sarah; several nieces and nephews. Interment icon will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Tennessee 4H Foundation, P.O. Box 1071 Knoxville, Tenn. 37901- 1071.

AYRES, TOMMY VIRGLE, JR. - age 31, of Knoxville, died suddenly May 4, 2001 at his home. He was a student at the TN Institute of Electronics. Survived by his wife, Candace Weaver Ayres; father & mother, Tommy & Blanche Ayres; sister, Tina Ayres Carr; grandfather, Harrison Ayres; nephew, Bradley; nieces, Destina & Seaira; special aunts, Shirley Jones, & Sharon Sparks; six aunts; six uncles; & several cousins. Mr. Ayres is at Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 5315 Kingston Pike, where the family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sun.. Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Sun. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jack Dean and Rev. Corky Alexander officiating. BAENZIGER, JACQUES - died May 4, 2001. Mr. Baenziger was the Technical Director for JFG Coffee Company until his retirement. He was born in Switzerland in 1913 and worked for Nestle Company prior to joining JFG. He survived by his wife, Bertha Mory-Baenziger who resides at NHC Assisted Living in Farragut; son, Jacques U. Baenziger MD/PHD, who is a professor of Pathology at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, Mo. Those wishing to honor the memory of Mr. Baenziger are encouraged to send a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, Eastern Tenn. Chapter, 1924 Alcoa Highway, Knoxville, Tenn. 37920. BAS, CAROL OLIVIA - age 46, of Knoxville died Thurs. May 3, 2001 at 9:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Hospital from ovarian cancer. She fought the disease with faith, courage, and dignity. She is survived by her two sons, Chris James Sutton, a recent graduate of Concordia Lutheran College in Austin, TX and Mathew Marcus Sutton of Houston, TX. She is especially mourned by her ex-husband, Lewis Rogers of Knoxville, Tenn.; her sister, Regina Stephenson of Rosenberg, TX; her brother, Peter Paul Bas of Houston, TX; and her father, Hector Bas of Houston, TX. She will be especially missed by her cancer support group at the Wellness Center, Knoxville, Tenn. Carol Olivia was a member of First Lutheran Church, Knoxville. Pastor Paul Bushur regularly celebrated communion with her at home when she was too ill to attend services. As with each of us, there were special friends who shared so much of their lives with her. Though she had many, three friends, Karen Gann, Cindy Cox, and Christine Copenhaver were immensely important in her life. Carol Olivia will be greatly missed as she shared so much of her kind, loving spirit with everyone she met. A memorial service will be held honoring her loving, Christian spirit at First Lutheran Church, 1207 N. Broadway, Knoxville on Tues. May 8th at 7 p.m. with Pastor Paul Bushur officiating. BELL, JOHNNIE FAYE - 63, went to be with Jesus on Fri., May 4, 2001 when she passed away at the Baptist Hospital. She & her loving husband, James Walter Bell had been married for 43 years. She also was a resident of Tampa, Fla. & McMinn County. She was loved by all & last friend to many. She was a loving mother & grandmother. She is preceded in death by her mother, Rosie Derrick Rayburn & father, George Author Rayburn. She was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, and was a retired school teacher and former principal in the Sevier County School System. While living in Knoxville he was employed with Clayton Homes for 4 years. Mr. Drewry had a BA in Economics and worked as a Loan Processor.
