WILEY, MR. ROBERT F. (BOB) - age 71 of Maynardville, passed away 12:35 a.m. Sat., May 5, 2001 at UT Medical Center. He was an Ordained Priest, Elder and High Priest of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Chilhowee Ward, Fountain City. Veteran of the US Army Air Corp. Preceded in death by parents, James Henry and Laura Mae Wiley of Ottertail, Minn.; brothers, George, John, James and Frances; sisters, Edith, Ethel, Eleanor, Edna and Grace. Survived by wife of 21 years, Mary E. Wiley, Maynardville; children, daughter, Wendy Rucker of Burley, Idaho; son, Robert L.Wiley of Midvale, Utah; daughter, Brenda Gough of Austin, Utah; 15 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers, Clayton and Chester Wiley, both of Austin, Minn.; brothers in law and sisters in law, Len and Ann Dixon, Georgia and Frank Foust, Bonnie and Wesley Wynn, Troy Dixon, all of Maynardville; special brother in law, Jerry Dunford, Hollandale, Minn.; several nieces and nephews. BELL, JOHNNY FAYE - age 63, went to be with Jesus on Friday, May 4, 2001 when she passed away at the Baptist Hospital. She & her loving husband, James Walter Bell had been married for 43 years. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Circle of the Assembly of God. She also was a resident of Tampa, Fla. & McMinn County. She was loved by all & best friend to many. She was a loving mother & grandmother. She is preceded in death by her mother, Rossie Derrick Rayburn & father, George Author Rayburn. Survived by her step mother, Ruth Rayburn; husband, James Walter Bell; daughter, Sheilah Mendez from Atlanta, Ga.; step son, Dan Bell & his wife, Cindy from Gainesville, Fla.; grandchildren, Joseph Ryan, Stephanie Victoria Christine; twin brother, Bill Rayburn & his wife, Barbara, & Clyde Arthur & his wife, Nellie; sister, Judy K. Shepherd; many nieces & nephews & friends of the family. Funeral services Monday at the McCarty's Evergreen Chapel on 7426 Asheville Hwy., 8 p.m. with Rev. John Lawson and Rev. BREEDEN, JAMIE RENEE SMITH - age 37, of Knoxville, went home to be with the Angels, Saturday, May 5, 2001, after a battle with cancer. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and daughter. Preceded in death by father, Jimmy R. Smith; grandparents, Floyd and Estivoe Johnson, White and Imogene Smith, and Florence Christopher. Survivors: husband, Lee Breeden; mother, Sue J. Hawkins; children, Arte Hawkins, Susan Smith, Tiffany and Wednesday Hawkins; granddaughter, Abigail Smith; sisters, Karen King, Tracey and husband Bill Robbins; half brother, Jimmy Smith; half sister, Kim Smith. Funeral service will be 8 p.m. Monday, Mynatt's Chapel, Rev. Casey Hawkins officiating. Family and friends will meet at Providence cemetery for graveside service at 1 p.m. Tuesday. CANIPE, RUSSELL WILLIAM , SR. - age 69, of Knoxville, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2001, at the U.T. Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlo Andy David Plato Canipe and Julie Ann Canipe, and several brothers and sisters. Survived by his wife of 41 years, Dorothy of Knoxville; two sons, David Canipe and wife, Belinda of Knoxville, and Russell Canipe and fiancée, Darlene Killion of Knoxville; one daughter, Teresa Liles and husband, Edward of Clinton; four grandchildren, Joshua Liles, Diamond Canipe, Johnathan Canipe, and Shane Canipe, and step grandchild, Johnathan Trotter, and several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 7, with the service at 8 p.m. Brother Turman Rabby will officiate. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at the Woodhaven cemetery in Claxton. The family will meet at the cemetery at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday. CHANDLER, HAROLD PRICE (OONER) - age 66, of West Knoxville, died May 6, 2001,at U.T. Hospital, after a long illness. He was of the Baptist faith. A veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Price and Hattie Chandler; sister, Olle Sue Willard; brothers, Marshall and Howard Chandler. Survivors sons and daughters in law, Gary and Karen Chandler, Ricky and Sandra Chandler; granddaughters, Katie and Ashley Chandler; step granddaughter, Carrie Cundiff; step grandsons, Justin Graham and David Williams; brother and sister in law, Glenn and Virginia Chandler; nieces, Sharon Chandler Kuzne, Jody Chandler Powell, and Teresa Chandler Rose; goddaughter, Misty Bracken Williams; special nephew, Robert (Cobby) Willard; nephews, Eddie and David Chandler, Jerry, Kenny and Ronnie Willard. CHESTER, JAMES W. "GEORGIA BOY & "BUG" - age 75, of Maryville, passed away at 7:20 p.m., Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Blount Memorial Hospital, and went to be with his maker. He was a retired mechanic, who loved car racing and automobiles. Preceded in death by wife, Cora Chester; parents, Sam and Beatrice Chester; sisters, Ollie Rose and Estia Jane Chastain Freeman and brother, Walter Chester. Survivors: daughters and son in law, Betty and Jerry Franklin of Greenback, and Denise Bradburn of Maryville; sons and daughters in law, Donnas and Evelyn Chester of Maryville, Thomas and Sharon Chester of Knoxville; grandchildren, Shane and Amy Chester, Jami and Damon Greene, Karista Chester, Jimmy Chester and Misty Chester; great grandchildren, Ethan Chester, Gage Chester and Destiny Johnson; sisters, Vestia Shah, Dorothy Bell and Betty Gravitte, all of Georgia, Margurite Suttles of Maryville, Hazel Wiseman of Philadelphia, and Joan Willis and June Workman, both of Dandridge; brothers, Bille and Jim Chester, both of Dandridge, Jack Chester of Maryville, and Bob Chester of Seymour; special companion, Hester French of Maryville, and several nieces and nephews. The body was cremated. Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2001, at the Magnolia cemetery for the interment. COCHRAN, SHIRLEY JOAN MEMERING - age 72, of Maryville, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Blount Memorial Hospital, after battling a long illness. Mrs. Cochran was a graduate of Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind., where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree earning highest honors. As a senior at Purdue, she was awarded the Alliance Francaise of Indianapolis, which is presented to the senior college candidate who is most proficient in oral and written French. Upon graduation, Mrs. Cochran, who spoke three languages fluently, was hired to teach at Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Ind. As a member of the Maryville, Tenn. Community, she was active in St. Andrews Episcopal Church, was instrumental in the opening of a girl's group home for Blount County, and served on the Board of Directors for Child and Family Services of Blount County. Mrs. Cochran further served as President of the Board from 1979-1981. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Wilson Memering and Mildred Yeager Memering of Lafayette, Ind., and her husband, Mr. William M. (Bill) Cochran of Maryville, Tenn. Her survivors include son, William Michael Cochran of Knoxville; son and daughter in law, Daniel M. and Kathy Cochran of Nashville; daughters and sons in law, Libby and Russell Nellis of Louisville, and Marty and Mark Pendergrass of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren, Shannon and Justin Cochran of Knoxville, Emily and Sarah Cochran of Nashville, Erin and Morgan Nellis of Louisville, Moriah, Michaela, and Adam Pendergrass of Dayton, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with the Rev. Martha P. Sterne officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parish hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, P.O. CORUM, HORACE - age 71, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday morning, May 6, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Gentry-Griffey Chapel.

CRESWELL, EVELYN WIDNER - age 83 of Seymour, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Holston Health Care Center. She was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, and was a retired school teacher and former principal in the Sevier County School System. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Creswell; her parents, John & Cora Widner; brothers, Rance, Clifford & Edward Widner; sisters, Ella Franklin & Irene DeLozier. Survivors include; daughter & son in law, Susie & Bob Ellison; son & daughter in law, George & Joyce Creswell; grandchildren, Stacy Ellison, Bryan Creswell, Brent Creswell & fiancé, Gwen Johnson; sister, Helen Widner Smith; brother & sister in law, Joe & Lily Widner; brother in law, George DeLozier; & several nieces & nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation of the loving care given to Evelyn by her caregivers, Grace Hicks and Dorothy Berrier. Graveside services will be held on Monday May 7, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Highland South cemetery, with Rev. David Lovelace officiating. DEBETY, ZELMA ARP - age 90, of 1091 Fairview Road, Tellico Plains, passed away 5:10 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Athens Regional Medical Center. A retired school teacher from the Monroe County School System. A member of New Providence Baptist Church. Survivors: sister, Virgie Patterson; nieces, Margaret Millsaps, both of Tellico Plains, Charlene Ritchey of Loudon, Wanda Oliver, of Ringgold, Ga., Wilma Thomas of Benton, Annette Stakely of Madisonville, Lillian Tucker of Michigan, and Vivian Stapp of Kingston; nephew, Ray Murr of Sweetwater. Funeral service 8 p.m. Monday, Biereley-Hale Chapel, Rev. James D. Harris and Rev. Beecher Miller officiating. Interment icon 11 a.m. Tuesday, Eleazar cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Tellico Plains.

FAWVER, GLENN M. - age 55, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday May 5. 2001, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He was a member of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul I. Fawver and Audley Murr Fawver. Mr. Fawver is survived by his brother, Paul I. and wife, Rose of Austin, Texas, and his sister, Ellen Zimmerman and husband, Bill of South Carolina, also several nieces and nephews, and many other family and friends. A very special thanks to Dr. Thomas Pollard and his staff, and to the nursing staff at Baptist Hospital. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2001, with the service to be held at 8 p.m. at Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Don Collins will officiate. FRAKER, ELSIE VINEYARD - age 94, of Knoxville, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2001. Mrs. Fraker was born March 1, 1907, the daughter of Ephraim and Anne Grubb Vineyard and resided most of her life in Knoxville. She was a longtime member of Church Street United Methodist Church and retired as Secretary-Treasurer of Fraker Heating & Equipment Co. Mrs. Fraker was past President of the Tennessee Division of United Daughters of the Confederacy and past Regent of the Lydia Russell Bean Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was past President of Ossoli Circle, past President and charter member of the North Hills Garden Club, and active in numerous other civic and patriotic organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, J. Temple Fraker, and her sisters, Edith Vineyard and Lucille Seddon. She is survived by her sisters, Pauline Phillips and Aline Wilbourn, and her brother, E.H. Vineyard, Jr.; her son and daughter in law, Dr. John Fraker and Martha Fraker of Centerville, Ohio; grandchildren, Dr. John Fraker and Wendi Fraker of Jacksonville, Florida, Rebecca Fraker Hadick and Russell Hadick of Crestview, Florida, and Jennifer Fraker of Mason, Ohio, and great grandchildren, Christin and Nicholas Hadick, and Jessica, Christopher, and Zachary Fraker. Graveside services and interment icon will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2001, Lynnhurst cemetery with Rev. Cable Trent and Rev. William Fowler officiating. GRANT, GLADYS CLARKE - age 100, on April 28, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at U.T. Medical Center. She was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Farragut. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas D. Grant; son in law, Marvin Miller, and grandson, Dean Ingram. Survivors: daughters and son in law, Bernardine and Holland Ingram, and Judith Miller, all of Knoxville; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Clarke of Knoxville, and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at Calvary cemetery 11:15 a.m. Tuesday for an 11:30 a.m. graveside and interment icon service, Father Philip Thoni officiating. GREENE, MR. ARTHUR R., JR. - of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2001, at the Life Care Center in Jefferson City. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City and the Bass Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Mossy Creek Masonic Lodge #353 F&AM, Lenoir City Masonic Lodge, and the Kerbela Temple Shrine Club. He was also a Veteran of the U.S. Marines, and was a retired employee of TVA, with more than 30 years of service. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #917. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur R. Greene, Sr. and Ossie Burns Greene, and his brother, Ed Greene. Survived by his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Naomi Anderson Greene, of the home; son and daughter in law, Steve and Kristie Greene of Nashville; daughter and son in law, Susan and Bill Newman of Jefferson City; three loving grandsons, Jordan and Justin Greene of Nashville, and Andrew Newman of Jefferson City; sisters, Evelyn Foster of Knoxville, Ruth McDaniel of Knoxville, and Ossie Malone of Johnson City; brother, Jack Greene of Florida, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2001, from the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City with Rev. Jim Dampier and Dr. Clarence Watson officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2001, in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at First Baptist Church in Jefferson City. GUEST, KATHERINE ELIZABETH - was born November 26, 1912, to the parents of the late Albert and Mollie Harrington Guest. She grew up in Knoxville living on Shea Street in Mechanicsville. She began to develop a keen interest in the art of cooking. During her lifetime she used her talents at the Aluminum Plant of America in Alcoa, Tennessee, the Munitions Fulton Plant and the Cherokee Country Golf Club, during World War II. During this time she began to gain insight in the fundamental laws prescribed by the Bible. For years Bible study in her home each week became a habit to wholesome living. Serving the Lord became her chief aim while building a strong reputation as a caterer. Katherine gave up her business to give full time care to her ailing father until his death. All of her life, she served the Lord as best as she knew how and passing the good news on to anyone that would listen. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Joseph B. Harland; nine grandchildren, Jocelyn Harland Gleaton, Myretta Harland Fohsta, Melissa Harland, Joette Harland Cosby, Juree' Hall Harland, Joseph Harland, Jr., Derrell Harland, and Earnest Harland; 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. The family will be at Highland Memorial Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. The funeral will be conducted by Reverend Garvin Greene Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Highland Memorial Chapel, burial following in Highland Memorial cemetery.
