HERRON, JAMES LEONARD, JR. - age 82 of Lenoir City, passed away early Saturday morning June 2, 2001 at the Loudon Health Care Center. Jim was born in Hartford, Ala. on July 17, 1918 to Anna Mae and James L. Herron, Sr. He enlisted in the United Sates Navy in 1942, serving on the USS New Mexico as an Electricians Mate Third Class during WWII and received an honorable discharged in November 1945. He attended the University of Tennessee Knoxville where he received his BS in education in 1950 and his MS in 1954. He retired from the Lenoir City School System where he taught science and chemistry at Lenoir City High School for thirty-one years. He was the Director of the Lenoir City Boy's Club for forty one years and served on the United Way Board. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. He belonged to the Amateur Ham Radio Club and enjoyed astronomy, star gazing and fishing. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Herron and his parents. He is survived by his children, Martha Ann DeRossett and husband, Mike of Dayton, Tenn., Jimmy Herron, Susie McCloskey and husband, Randy all of Lenoir City, Paula Stooksbury and husband, Stan of Knoxville; brother, Leslie Herron and wife, Georgia of Knoxville; grandchildren, Kathy Watson, Michael Herron, Audrey McCloskey, Megan McCloskey, Josh Swicegood and Cassie Swicegood. The family will receive friends from 6-7:45 p.m. Sunday followed by funeral services at 8 p.m. at the Central United Methodist Church. Rev. Mark Gooden and Rev. Doug Crowder will officiating. Family and friends will gather at 11 a.m. Monday in the Lakeview cemetery for graveside services with full military honors conferred by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. JACKSON, ALMA DARLENE - of Knoxville, departed this life on May 30, 2001. Preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Jean Neal; father, Rev. Willie Jay Daniel; step father, L.A. Neal; grandmother, Viola Helen Harper; aunts, Mary Harper, Dorothy Moss Dickerson; uncles, Melvin Harper and Ted Harper. She leaves loving children, son, Christopher Shawn Jackson; daughter, Christy White; brothers, Jeffrey, Ricky, and Jason Daniel; sister, Sheila Mullins, devoted cousin, Pamela Curtis, Michael King; and many other relatives and friends in include Roberta Upshaw, May Cooper, Diane and all her friends at the Dialysis Clinic. JARNIGAN, IRENE KATHERINE - age 77 of Plymouth, NC died Friday June 1, 2001. She was preceded in death by son, Frank Hutchison; parents, Charles & Sarah Greene. Survivors: husband, Bill Jarnigan; daughters, Margie F. Hassell & husband, Bill, Judy C. Williams & husband, Gene, Sandra Lowe; sons, David L. Best & wife, Patricia; daughter in law, Karen Hutchison; grandchildren, Kathy Logan, Eric Logan, Michael L. Best, Kenneth D. Best, Johnathon Best, David L. Best, II, Kimberly Huskey, Crystal Hutchison, Jessica Hutchison, Alicia Hutchison, Christopher Hutchison, Misty Lowe, Nick Lowe; brothers, Robert Greene, Ford Greene, Curtis Greene, Martin Greene, Defesus Greene; sisters, Janell Bowling, Virginia Overton, Sue Greene, Reba Greene, Janet Greene. JONES, WALLACE LEE - age 75 formerly of Knoxville, passed away Friday in Dayton, Ohio. He was retired from McCallie Aircraft Corp. Served in the US Army and a veteran of World War II. Preceded in death by his parents, Lon and Venia Goddard Jones. Survived by sisters and brothers in law, Polly and Cecil Kelly of Knoxville, Marie and Henry McBride of Centerville, Tenn., Bonnie and Pete Holt of Knoxville; brother and sister in law, Lynn and Edith Jones of Knoxville; aunt, Mrs. Katherine Gibson of Sweetwater; several nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held Monday at Woodlawn cemetery, Dr. Dan Kelly officiating. The family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. Sunday at Gentry-Griffey Chapel.

LOCKHART, CHARLES F. (CARL) - age 60 of Seymour passed away Saturday June 2, 2001 at his home. He was a member of Knob Creek Baptist Church. He served in the Armed Services and retired from the Army National Guard. Survivors include, wife, Inez; daughter, Suzy Rhodes; son, Billy; son & daughter in law, Frank and Laura Lockhart; granddaughter, Jessica Lockhart; sister, Wilma Spears of Knoxville; sisters and brothers in law, Faye & Kenneth Roop, Eileen and Ray Stroud of Knoxville, and Lucille and "Red" Dockery of Morristown; many nieces and nephews and a lot of dear friends. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday June 3 with a funeral service Monday June 4 at 10 a.m. at Highland South Chapel. Burial following at Asbury cemetery. LUTTRELL, THEODORE PAUL (TED) - age 60 of North Knoxville, passed away suddenly Thursday evening at his farm. Member and elder of Shannondale Presbyterian Church. Member of Bright Hope Lodge 557 F&AM, 32 Degree Mason, also member of Scottish Rite, worked for Department of Transportation for 40 years. Preceded in death by parents, James Paul and Anna H. Luttrell. Survived by wife of 39 years, JoAnn Luttrell; daughter and son in law, Kimberly and Greg Prater, Clinton; son and daughter in law, Michael and Jennifer Luttrell, Athens; granddaughter, Anna Grace Luttrell, was anticipating the birth of two grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service 4 p.m. Sunday at Gentry-Griffey Chapel Rev. Morgan H. Biggs and Rev. Robert Walker officiating. MAYS, RALPH "GLENN" - age 50, of Hot Springs, NC, passed away May 31, 2001 at Vanderbilt Medical Center after an extended illness with heart disease. He was a pilot. Preceded in death by parents, Ralph Edward & Virginia Poole Mays. Survived by wife, Barbara Albrecht Mays, Hot Springs, NC; sister & brother in law, Mary & Omer Brown, Rising Sun, In.; brothers & sisters in law, Jim & Jane Poole, Chattanooga, Tenn., Jessie Ed & Olavine Salyers, Phil., Tenn., George & Betty Mays, Loudon, Tenn., Tony & Peggy Mays, Sweetwater, Tenn., Sam & Debbie Mays, Mohawk, Tenn.; several nieces & nephews. McCOY, REVEREND SYLVESTER (BECK) - age 86, of Greeneville, Tenn., formerly of Union County, passed away Friday, June 1, 2001, at Greenville West Nursing Home. He retired from Ideal Cement Co. with thirty-seven years and five months service. He was a retired minister of the Baptist faith. He began his ministry in February 1949 as assistant pastor of Mt. Carmel. He also pastored at several area churches, including Pleasant Gap, Wolfe Valley, Byerly's Chapel, Flint Gap, Linden Avenue, and North Acres, from which he retired in 1984. He was a member of Mosshiem Missionary Baptist, Fountain City Lodge 757 F&AM, JESHUA Chapter 207, ZABUD Council 129, COEUR De Lion Commandery 0009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Frank McCoy and Minnie Lee Hawkins McCoy; his first wife of twenty-three years, Reba Avis Lusk McCoy; sisters, Hazel McCoy, Frankie Debrise, and Stella Thurman; brothers, Paul, Clint, Frank Jr., and Earl McCoy. Survivors include his wife of thirty-seven years, Leola Jean Renner McCoy; sons, Billy Neal McCoy, Benny Joe McCoy, and Aaron Paul McCoy (Rocky); sister, Helen Bell; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 3, at 8 p.m. at McCarty Mortuary, with the Reverends Edward Luttrell and Leonard Goins officiating. The family will meet on Monday, June 4, at 10:45 a.m. for an 11 a.m. graveside service at Trentville cemetery. POTTER, WILLIAM EARNEST - age 78 of Maryville, died, Friday June 1, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a retired Msgt. with US Air Force. He served as a Mason, he was of the Baptist faith and was an avid camper. He was preceded in death by wife, Billie P. Wilburn Potter; parents, William H. & Bertha Potter and his brother, Kenneth Potter. Survivors include; daughters, Brenda Blasco of Fla., Susie Samuelson of Ga.; sons, Bo Potter of Maryville, Robert Potter of Maryville and Sam Potter of Maryville; daughter, Barbie Phillips of Maryville; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren; brothers, James Ray Potter & Lloyd Potter both of Maryville, Floyd Potter of Mich.; sister, Barbara June Tipton of Maryville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday June 4, 2001, Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Tommy Boring officiating. Interment icon will follow at Grandview cemetery. MERRIMAN, MRS. HELEN LOUISE - age 71 of Knoxville, formerly of Rockwood, passed away Friday in Ft. Sanders Parkwest Hospital. She was a member of the West Park Baptist Church, Knoxville. Preceded in death by husband, Otis Ralph Merriman; sisters, Ruth & Gladola & is survived by; son, Charles R. Merriman & wife, Terrie, Knoxville; grandchildren, Melanie Bryant & Stephanie Merriman; great grandchildren, Justin, Faith, Joshua & Stacie; brother, Elmer Tignor. Graveside services & interment icon will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Roane Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Evans Mortuary. Evans Mortuary of Rockwood is serving the family of Mrs. Helen Louise Merriman.

REED, JAMES W., SR. - 52 of Seymour, passed away on Friday June 1, 2001 at Ft. Sanders Regional Hospital. Mr. Reed was a Baptist minister for 15 years, and a member of New Victory Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, James L. Reed and Callie Jane Myers, father and mother in law, Charles and Betty Southerland. He is survived by his loving family, wife, Becky Southerland Reed; son, James Reed, Jr. and wife, Cathy; son, Charles Reed; brother, Jack Reed and wife, Sherry; sister, Libby Hanncock and husband, Freddie; brothers in law, Roy Southerland and wife, Mona, Mike Southerland and wife, Carol, very special grandchildren, Austin Reed, James and Ashley Reed, many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and devoted friends; Don Williamson, Lester Webb, Bill Crane and, Jim Wolfe. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to all staff of Ft. Sanders Regional Hospital. ROBISON, JACK HINDS - age 67 of Lenoir City, Tenn., passed away Saturday morning, June 2, 2001 at his home. Jack was retired from CTI Inc. A member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethyl Hinds Robinson and father, Jack Edward Robison. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sandra White Robison; daughters, Susan Robison Rojas, Sherry Robinson Friedman and Tracy Robison all of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Teresa Robison of Lenoir City; sons in law, Jorge Rojas and Stuart Friedman; grandsons, Jake Matthew Rojas, age 4 and Adam Laurence Friedman, age 9. STEWART, CHARLES VICTOR - age 75 of Maryville, died Friday June 1, 2001 at the family home. He was a member of Alcoa First United Methodist Church, retired after 34 years from TWA Airlines, and served in the Coast Guard during WWII. He served on the Blount County Election Commission, was an avid bee keeper, and was Blount County Bee Inspector for a number of years. He belonged to the Alcoa Prudentia Lodge #719 F&AM and to the American Legion Post 13. Preceded in death by parents, Charles Luther and Ada Lones Stewart; sister, Betty Doris McCauley. Survivors include wife of 54 years, Charlotta Snelson Stewart; son and daughter in law, Ronald Charles and Donna Stewart of Mobile, Ala.; son and daughter in law, Victor Dale and Chris Barnes Stewart of Indianapolis, Ind.; sister, Mary Ruth Shields of Mobile, Ala.; brother and sister in law, Larry and Linda Stewart of Anderson, SC; brother in law and sister in law, Ted and Nancy Snelson; sister in law, Carmelee Easter; 4 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
