Scott; stepfather, Yogi Carrigg; grandparents, Austin R. and Pearl E. Scott, and Earl Covington. Survivors: mother, Mamie L. Scott Carrigg; brothers and sisters: Steve and Betty Scott of Lenoir City, Joanne and Clay Anderson of Strawberry Plains, Keith and Pam Scott of Rutledge, and Troy Carrigg of Charleston, S.C.; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Scott, Susie Osborne, Patrick Scott, Travis Scott, and Lynn Scott; great niece, Shelby Hooper; uncles and aunts, Pete, Tommy, Gordon and Chuckie Covington, Mary Alice Vineyard, Joyce and Evelyn Covington, and Kathleen (Kat) Howard; grandmother, Geneva Covington. Loving cousins and lots of loving friends. Funeral service will be 8 p.m. Thursday in Atchley's Chapel with Pastor Rebecca N. Milligan and Pastor Jackie Finley officiating. Interment icon 11 a.m. Friday in Valley Grove cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.

SMIDDY, PEARL LEINART - age 97, of Kingston, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2001. She was a member of Clear Branch Baptist Church and retired from Magnet Mills in Lake City. Preceded in death by her husband, Goddard Smiddy; sons, Lydall and Bill Smiddy; parents, Rufus and Catherine Goins Leinart; three brothers and three sisters. Survivors: son, Charles E. Smiddy of Kingston; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Angela Smiddy of Strawberry Plains; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren; sister, Veindeela Size of Lake City. Burial 11 a.m. Wednesday at Leach cemetery in Lake City, with Rev. Randy Griffis officiating. Pallbearers will be Bob, Gary, Ronnie, Robbie, and Jeff Humphreys, Bobby Bedwell and Don White. Kyker Funeral Home, in Kingston, in charge of arrangements.

SMITH, DAVID LEE - of Knoxville, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2001, at U. T. Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Unity Mortuary.

SNYDER, NANCY ANN BREWER - age 90, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, June 18, 2001, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, after a brief illness. She had been active in the East Knoxville Community and attended Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. After moving to Knoxville from Middlesboro, Ky., in 1957, she worked as a medical secretary at the Acuff Clinic, as an accountant for Clark & Jones Music Store, for Welcome Wagon, and the A. C. Nielsen Co. She was a longtime Linden Avenue resident and had recently lived in Cumberland Estates. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Madison Brewer and Sudie Broughton Brewer; husband, Benjamin Clark Snyder and brother, Reid Brewer. Survivors include son, William Benjamin Snyder of Knoxville; brother, William Emmitt Brewer of Knoxville; sisters, Dora Carnes of Dewitt, Ky., and Orlena Bingham of Wauseon, Ohio; granddaughters, Leshia Ann Klein of Lilburn, Ga., and Lyndel Elizabeth Bennett of Dallas, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Devin, Dylan, and Lyndsey, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 20, 6-9 p.m. at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel, with interment icon following at Greenwood cemetery. The Revs. W. B. Bingham of Binghamtown Baptist Church in Middlesboro, Ky., and Jeff Lane of Cumberland Baptist Church in Knoxville will officiate. Pallbearers are Buddy Brewer, Chris Brewer, Bill Brewer, Philip Carnes, Kim Bingham, Brent Bingham, Curt Bingham, and Todd Bingham. Gifts may be made to Dewitt Baptist Church, P. O. Box 19, Dewitt, KY. 40930.

STOOKSBURY, ROBERT TEMPLIN - of North Knoxville, died Monday morning, June 18, 2001. He was a longtime active member of St. James Episcopal Church and a U. S. Army Veteran. Mr. Stooksbury had retired as vice president and sales manager from Chapman Drug Company. His survivors include his wife, Daphine Chase Stooksbury; son and daughter-in-law, Robert T. and Judy Stooksbury, Jr. of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Amy Ayres and her husband, Michael, Ashley, Abby, Anna, and Allison Stooksbury; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Donald; sister, Mrs. Bruce (Katherine) Ogle of Knoxville; nieces, Mrs. Robert (Betty) Koon and Mrs. William (Bobbie) Garrison. There will be a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 1101 N. Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917. Friends may call at their convenience at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

STYLES, LARRY EUGENE - of Knoxville, departed this life on Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at U. T. Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Unity Mortuary.

TALMAGE, RACHEL ROSELEE "ROSE" - age 58, of Walland, passed way Monday, June 18, 2001, after a lengthy term of cancer. She was an active member of Bungalow United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, William Andrew Sr. and Johnnie Rue Tuck Murphy; brothers and sisters, W. A. Murphy, Jr., Alma Marie Trent, and James Hubert Murphy; mother-in-law, Roslin Talmage, and granddaughter, Brandi LeeAnn Talmage. Survivors include husband, William "Bill" E. Talmage of Walland; daughter, Shonia J. Garland of Maryville; son, Wesley S. Talmage of Sevierville; sons and daughter-in-law, Clayton and Kim Talmage of Knoxville, Trent and Christy Talmage of Laredo, Texas; grandsons, Brandon Talmage of Rockford, Cameron and Jordon Talmage of Knoxville, and Joshua Cory Talmage; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe E. and Liz Talmage; sisters, Frances Coffman of Alcoa, Mildred Best, and Juanita Blair, both of Maryville, Marilyn Simerly of Friendsville; brothers, Charles L. Murphy of Sevierville, David P. Murphy, Sr. of Maryville, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William C. Bennett and Rev. David Murphy officiating. The interment icon will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Carpenters cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville.

TELESCO, ROBERT D. (WOODY) - age 46, died suddenly in Knoxville, Tenn., May 5, 2001. Son of Dominic S. and Sarah (Guarino) Telesco of Buffalo, N.Y.; brother of Paula J. Telesco, PHD, of Chelmsford, MA, and Kenneth J. Telesco of Santa Fe, N.M.; fiance' of Janet Martin of Sharps Chapel, Tenn. He was cremated in Knoxville, Tenn., May 9, 2001. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2 p.m. in Sharps Chapel Park, Union County, Tenn.

TRIPURE, JIMMY LEE - age 50, of Heiskell, Tenn., passed away Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge. He was born April 23, 1951, in Jeffersonville, Ind. Preceded in death by father, James A. Tripure and mother, Wilma Pauline Young. He was a Retired Senior Chief with the U. S. Navy, and served during Vietnam. After retiring from the Navy, he worked as a draftsman for S. & M. E. Survivors include wife, Pamela J. Tripure of Heiskell; daughters, Tina Marie Adams of Jacksonville, Fla., Angel Marie Moody of Heiskell, and Michelle R. Killpack of Chula Vista, Calif.; brothers, Aaron B. Cherry and George D. Cherry, both of Charlestown, Ind.; sister, Bernice Ann Tuck of Pekin, Ind., and eight grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at Coots Funeral Home, Thursday, June 21, 2001, at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in the Walnut Ridge cemetery in Jeffersonville, Ind. Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, and after 9 a.m. Thursday, June 21 at Coots Funeral Home.

VANBEBBER, MRS. JOYCE - age 59, of Maynardville, born January 11, 1942, passed away 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Pitman Creek Baptist Church, Somerset, Ky. Preceded in death by parents, Grover and Bertha Miller. Survivors: husband, Lee Roy Vanbebber of Maynardville; son and daughter-in-law, David and Dorene Evins; son, Chris Evins; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Jeff Burnett, and Karen and Billy Bailey, all of Maynardville; 10 grandchildren. Funeral services 8 p.m. Thursday, Cooke Mortuary Chapel, Rev. Tim Muncey officiating with music by the Hodge Family and Regina Brock. Interment icon 11 a.m. Friday, Halls Memory Gardens, Knoxville. Pallbearers: Pete Dax, John Hale, Gary Nicely, Michael Harris, Larry Hatmaker, and Ken Venable. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Cooke Mortuary, Maynardville.

WARD, WILLIAM (BILL) C. - age 72, of Corryton, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital, after a lengthy illness, that was bravely fought with courage and hope. Member of Fairview Baptist Church and Bright Hope Lodge # 557 F&AM, Veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from KUB. Preceded in death by parents, John I. and Ethel Ward. Survivors: loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Katherine "Katy" Major Ward; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Kelli of Corryton, and Major and Michelle of Powell; very special grandchildren, Alison, David, Jonathan and Logan with the anticipated arrival of Cameron in July; sister, Ethel "Goo Goo" and Jimmy McDaniel of Strawberry Plains; sisters-in-law and husbands, Mae and Hubert Majors, and Georgia "Twistie" and Johnny Johnson, all of Knoxville; very special niece, Elizabeth Johnson, serving as a missionary in Middle Asia; several other nieces and nephews and close friends whom he loved dearly. Family and friends will meet at Mynatt's by 10:15 a.m. Wednesday and proceed to Greenwood cemetery for interment icon at 11 a.m., Rev. Bryan Wright and Rev. Toby Everett officiating. Pallbearers: Bill Anderson, D.C. Thomas, Wayne Davis, David Borden, Gene Clift, and Bill Evans. WILLIS, MARTHA LIZZIE - entered into eternal rest Friday, June 15, 2001, at Roane Medical Center. Preceded in death by parents, John Willis and Lizzie Willis; brother, Hubert Willis; daughters, Carline and Willie Mae Willis. Member of St. Mary's Baptist Church. Leaves to cherish memories, loving and devoted children, Donavon Calvin Willis, Marcella Selina Willis; grandchildren, Charlotte Willis, Alvin Willis, Carmencita (Rodrick) Smiley of Miami, Fla., Lt. Courtney (Stacey) Henderson of Huachuca, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Rodresia, Tia, Tamia Smiley, Cynclair, and Jazmine Henderson; mothrr who raised her, Vernice Willis, and a host of cousins and friends to include special cousins, Shirley Winton, Lillian Blair, and Pat Henderson, special friends, Jane Clemons, Alice Marble, and Ruby Jean Boyd, and special son and neighbor, John Strunks. BANKS, FRANCES M. - went into eternal rest on Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Fort Sanders Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, one brother, one niece, one nephew, two great nephews, two aunts, several brothers-in-law and cousins. Frances leaves to celebrate her home going, a loving and devoted son, Roy (Gwen) McGhee; a grandson, William Darryl McGhee (Delphine Tyus), two grandchildren, April Denise McGhee and William Darryl McGhee, Jr.; one great-great granddaughter, Daja Denise Clark, all of Detroit, Mich. Other relatives include two sisters, Louise Norris and Barbara Reid. One brother, Thomas A. Nowlin III, several nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and a host of cousins and many friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, at 12 Noon at Foothills Funeral Home Chapel with family receiving friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment icon to follow at Cedarlawn cemetery, Alcoa. The body will lie in state after 12 Noon Thursday at Foothills Funeral Home, Maryville.

BATES, THOMAS "TOMMY" E., SR. - age 61, passed away suddenly Monday, June 18, 2001, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was owner of Tommy Bates Construction and a member of Sunrise Baptist Church. Mr. Bates is preceded in death by parents, Claude and Oneida Bates and sister, Mary Agnes. Survived by wife, Malinda Bates; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Tammy Bates, and special grandchildren, Joseph and Jarod Bates, all of Rutledge; uncles and wives, Buddy and Hester Bates of Blaine, Eulis Bates of Rutledge; aunts, Etta Mae Brabston, and Jane Barnard of Knoxville. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 21, at 8 p.m. in the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hollis Dunsmore and Rev. Gary Satterfield officiating. A graveside service will be Friday, June 22, at 2 p.m. in the Sunrise cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, 6-8 p.m. prior to the service. CALDWELL, RALPH J. - age 77, of South Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2001. He was a member of Island Home Assembly of God. He was a World War II Veteran and was retired from Royal Beauty Supply. Preceded in death by parents, Filo and Mary Caldwell; sister, Shirley Vandergriff; brothers, Johnny, Frank , and Dennis Caldwell. Survivors include wife of 52 years, Mildred Caldwell; sons and daughter-in-law, Mark and Lisa Caldwell, Rodney and Rhonda Caldwell; very special step daughter, Joy Moore; grandchildren, Chuck Moore and Craig and Renee Moore; great-grandchild, Riley Moore , all of Knoxville; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Clarence Ogle of Seymour; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Ruby Caldwell, and Ronnie and Wilma Caldwell. CLEVENGER, JIMMY LEE - age 64, formerly of Knoxville, passed away in Pompano Beach, Fla., Sunday, June 17, 2001. Survived by wife, Peggy French Clevenger; sons, Jimmy, Chuck (Donna), David (Kathy), Rick (Paula) and seven grandchildren, all of Pompano. Services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Forest Lawn, 200 W. Copans Rd., Pompano Beach.

COOPER, MRS. DOROTHY BROWN - age 82, of Deer Lodge, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in the Lifecare Center of Morgan County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Cooper; parents, James and Myra Belle Brown. She is survived by her children, Nella Mae and husband William Shirley Hutcherson of Deer Lodge, Deanna and husband Steve Seibers of Sunbright and Carolyn Anderson of Deer Lodge; brother, Sam Brown of Deer Lodge; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, June 21, from 6-8 p.m., Schubert Funeral Home, Sunbright. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Steve Looper and Rev. COX, MRS. JOSEPHINE RIVES - age 75, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at her home. Mrs. Cox was a member of Macedonia Methodist Church, retired teacher at Farragut High School, graduate of Carson-Newman College Class of '49, and preceded in death by her husband, Carl T. Cox. Survivors: daughter, Khette Cox of Chattanooga; brother, James F. Rives of Jefferson City; sister, Sally Brooks of Mill Valley, Calif., and several nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Friday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel. with Rev. William Wells of First United Methodist Church, Johnson City, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, East Tennessee Region, 4708 Papermill Dr., Knoxville, TN 37909.
