DUNAWAY, VICKI CLAIBORNE - passed away Monday, June 18, 2001, at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital. She was a graduate of Karns High School Class of 1967. Graduate of U.T. Class of 1970, and received her graduate degree from Union College. She was an English teacher and Dept. Chair 1970-1985, Assistant Principal 1986-1992, and Principal of Powell High School from 1992 to the present. She received the Met Life NASSP Principal of the Year in Tennessee for 1996, and was selected Tennessee Secondary Principal of the Year 1995. She was one of 100 educators selected to the Headmasters Association, a national organization. Member of the Renaissance National Advisory Board for Jostens and a member of Education National Board Education Class for the greater Knoxville Chamber of Commerce. She was one of three finalist for Principal Resident for the U.S. Dept. of Education, selected as Student Escort for the Panasonic Japanese Cultural Exchange trip in 1996. She was selected Business Person of the year in 1996, by the Powell Business and Professional Association. Member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Zeta Chapter, and member of Ball Camp Baptist Church. Preceded in death by father, Vick Claiborne. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Seth Claiborne and Amy Moon Dunaway; daughter, Amanda Lee Dunaway; mother, Ruth Claiborne; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Peggy Claiborne; children's father, David Dunaway; nephews, Michael and Tyler Claiborne; aunts, Margaret Duncan, Mary Roberson, and Mary Helen Fox. Special friends, Shirley Underwood, Donna Wright, and Connie Selvy. Funeral service 8 p.m. Thursday First Baptist Church of Powell with Rev. Phil Jones and Rev. Gene Richardson officiating. Interment icon 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, Lynnhurst cemetery. Pallbearers: Eddie McLemore, Gary Wright, Charles Mashburn, Bob Savery, Greg Roach, and Benny Hodges. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Powell High School. Vicki's specific request is, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Vicki Dunaway Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o the East Tenn. DUNN, MINNIE OGLE - age 87, of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2001. She was born June 6, 1914, to Arley and Ollie Proffitt Ogle of Sevierville, who preceded her in death. She was married to Haskell Dunn for over 53 years. He passed away in July, 1987. They had five children. A daughter, Carolyn passed away in February, 1959. Survivors: sons and daughters-in-law, Elmer T. and Maxine Dunn of Rockford, Rex and Brenda Dunn of Maryville, and Murrell and Anita Dunn of Oak Ridge; daughter, Clara Lee of Maryville; eight grandchildren and spouses, Phillip and Debbie Dunn, Gregory Dunn, Melissa Dunn, Belinda and Jerry Abbott, Scottie and Geraldine Dunn, Kelly and David Erskine, Troy and Alyn Dunn, and Tammy Dunn; four great-grandchildren, Kristi Abbott, and Montana, Jacob, and Logan Dunn. Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2001, in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Atchley and Rev. Andy Ball officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. Friday in Shady Grove cemetery for interment. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.

GASCA, MARTIN L. - age 48, of Marietta, Georgia, formerly of Knoxville, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, after a long illness. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Unity Church Offices, 2424 Sutherland Avenue, Knoxville. He is survived by a son, Joshua Gasca; a step daughter, Erin Hodge; a sister, Yvonne G. Starr; two nephews, Chris McFarlin and Spencer Brown, and two great aunts, Mamie Cagle and Betty Kennedy. HATCHER, ANDREA CROSS - of LaFollette, born November 29, 1969, in Heidelberg, Germany, entered into eternal rest Sunday, June 17, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital in Knoxville. She was a member of Cumberland View Baptist Church in Jacksboro. Andrea was a loving daughter, wife, and mother, who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles H. and Mattie S. Wright and George and Pearl B. Cross; very special uncle, James B. Wright, and several uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. She is survived by husband, Johnny and beloved son, John William Hatcher; parents, Joe and Phyllis Wright Cross, all of LaFollette. Dear and special friend, Shelia Crandell of Linden, Mich. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Martin Wilson Funeral Home in LaFollette, with funeral service following at 8 p.m. in the Chapel with Rev. Bobby Ray Wilson, Rev. HATMAKER, HERBERT HOOVER - age 72, of LaFollette, a resident of Sunbridge Health Care Center, passed away Wednesday, June 20, at St. Mary's of Campbell Co. He was a long time member of the LaFollette Rescue Squad. Preceded in death by parents, Levi and Sarah Day Hatmaker; brother, Henry Hatmaker; sisters, Leona Wingard, Nellie Hatmaker, Minnie Takacs and Elsie McCulley. Survivors: two nieces, Mary E. Wilson of Knoxville and Vanita Hachu of Sewaren, N.J.; two nephews, Jerry McCulley of LaFollette and John Takacs of Sewaren, N.J.; four great nieces and five great nephews. Special great nephew, Scott McCulley. HEADRICK, LUKE BURNS - age 87, of Sevierville, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Valley View Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Howell and Lydia Burns Headrick. Survivors: wife of 64 years, Lena Brewer Headrick; daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Otha Frye of Louisville, Tenn., Helen and Roy Johnson of Madisonville, Tenn., and Lois and Roger Luebke of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren and spouses, Amy and Jon Grubb of Louisville, Tenn., David and Amanda Frye of Canterbury, Conn., Keith and Tiffany Johnson of Selmer, Tenn., Michael and Susan Johnson of Maryville, Tenn., and Rhonda and Ross Ramsey of Knoxville, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Carissa, and Patrick Frye, Tyler Johnson, Blake Johnson, and Alicia Martinez. JULIAN, MERLE GRACE CLAPP - crossed into the Promised Land on Tuesday, June 19, 2001. She was born November 3, 1913. Preceded in death by mother, Hattie Booker Clapp; father, Jesse Floyd Clapp, and stepmother, Stella Lloyd Clapp. Also preceded in death by brothers, Paul Clapp and Clyde "Smiley" Clapp. Finally preceded in death by infant daughter, Phyllis Jo Julian. Survived by loving husband of 66 years, R. G. (Toby) Julian, and sister, Thelma Clapp Davis. Also survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Patricia Julian, and Richard and Linda Julian. Other survivors include grandsons and wives, Eric and Jennifer Julian, Kevin and Amy Julian, and Jason and Mary Julian; granddaughter, Bronwyn Julian, and great-grandson, Jake Julian; step granddaughter and husband, Valissa and Warren Lane, and step grandson, Charlie Bock, also survive her. Merle was a faithful member of Little Flat Creek Baptist Church for over 70 years. She taught Sunday School class and sang in the choir. She was active in the Corryton Community for many years. She was primary stockholder and officer of ToeZay Decorating and Display Company and worked in the company for many years. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, at Stevens Mortuary. Graveside service and Interment icon will be at Little Flat Creek Baptist Church cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday, Rev. Doyle Davis officiating. Pallbearers: Eric, Kevin, Jason, and Michael Julian, William Davis, and Wesley Mullins. LEWIS, LARRY G. - age 61, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, June 18, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital. Survivors: wife, Sharon Lewis; children, Shonia Garland, Wes Talmage, Clayton Talmage, and Kristi Dennison; several grandchildren; mother, Lennie Teague of Maryville; brothers, Roger and Belldon Lewis of Maryville; sister Pat Kaiser of Florida. Funeral service 1 p.m. Thursday, Mynatt's Chapel, Rev. Jerry Copeland officiating with interment icon to follow at Lynnhurst cemetery. Pallbearers: Dennis Kirkpatrick, Gary Kennedy, James Slagle, Craig Emory, William Banks, and Jeff Jennings. McCULLEY, PEARL DENTON - age 74, went to be with Jesus on Monday evening, June 18, 2001, at U. T. Medical Center. Member of South Knoxville Church of God. She was a devoted Christian and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Preceded in death by twin brother, Earl Denton and father, Alfred Denton. Survivors: devoted husband, Carl McCulley; daughters, Lawana McCulley and Denise Bach, and granddaughter, Ashley Bach. Funeral service Thursday 8 p.m., Berry Chapel with Rev. Tommy Bellamy officiating. Graveside service Friday, 11 a.m. at Woodlawn cemetery. Receiving of family and friends will be Thursday, 6-8 p.m. A special thanks to Dr. John Bell and U. T. McDANIEL, MRS. EVA IRENE STEPHENS - age 88, of 94 Cade Street, Hartwell, Ga., died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Hartwell Health Care Center. Born in Monroe County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Mack Henderson Stephens and Ethel Lane Webb. She was an L.P.N. at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. She was of the Baptist Faith. She is survived by daughter, Bertha Gardner of Columbia, S.C.; sisters, Bertha Daughty of Sweetwater, Tenn., and Edna Jones of Sweetwater, Tenn., half-sister, Nancy Jo Webb of Niota, Tenn.; brother, Holbert Stephens of Chattanooga, Tenn.; half-brother, Lemuel Stephens of Sweetwater, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchilden, and five great-great grandchildren also survive. She is preceded in death by husband, Ezra McDaniel; sons, Kenneth, Raymond and Robert McDaniel, and a brother, Roy Stephens. Memorial Services will be on Saturday, June 23, 2001, at 2 p.m. from the Christianburg Baptist Church, Rev. Darrell Cardin will officiate. Burial will be in the Christianburg Baptist Church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Charity of Children's Hospital. Strickland Funeral Home, Hartwell, Ga., will be in charge.

MOFFIT, IRIS M. (SIMMONS) - age 86, of Knoxville, formerly of Memphis, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Colonial Hills Nursing Home of Maryville. Preceded in death by husband, Edward J. Moffit, and son, Gerald Edward Moffit. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Mark Lee and Leslie Moffit; grandchildren, Charles Andrew, Rebecca Lee, and Matthew Moffit, and special family member, James V. Clark. NEWMAN, JOE W. (BILL) - age 73, of Knoxville, passed away suddenly Monday, June 18, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was a retired building contractor. Mr. Newman was preceded in death by his father, Ted Newman; daughter, Kim Dykes, and stepfather, Jack Pelfrey. He is survived by his wife, Betty Hodges Newman; mother, Bertha Stamper Pelfrey; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Ronnie Cross of Louisville and Vicki and James Thompson of Knoxville; granddaughter, Jennifer Hassell; sister and brother-in-law, Anna Boyd and Delbert Johnson, all of Knoxville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold and Conie Hodges, and Edgar and Norma Orrick, all of Knoxville, as well as several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet Thursday at the main entrance to Greenwood cemetery for a 12:30 p.m. graveside service with Rev. Cecil Bucy officiating. His nephews will serve as pallbearers. PRIVETTE, CARROLL MAXWELL - a lifelong resident of Knoxville, was born May 17, 1915, and died Tuesday, June 19, 2001. He was a retired brick mason and member of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local #5, a former City of Knoxville employee, and groundskeeper for the Knoxville Sox. He was a lifelong baseball fan, a member of City View Baptist Church since 1928, and a U. S. Army Veteran. Preceded in death by his parents, Reuben Richard and Alice Privette; brothers, Andrew, Paul, and Bruce Privette; sisters, Lucille Stringfield, Anna Mae Hall, and Ruby Privette. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ondelene Acuff Privette; son and daughter-in-law Rick and Nita Privette; daughters, Ginger Privette and Alice Christopher of Pigeon Forge; grandchildren, Renee' and Lance Fuson, Ryan Privette, Georgianna Morgan and family, and Angela Evans and family; special great-grandson, Logan Fuson; four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday with funeral service following at 7:30 p.m. at City View Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Holley and Rev. Mike Ramage officiating. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home Friday by 11:30 a.m. to travel in procession to Greenwood cemetery for a 12 Noon interment icon service.
