SHIRLEY, GRACE LAMBERT - age 90, of Knoxville, widow of Victor H. Shirley, passed away Wednesday morning, June 20, 2001, at Shannondale Health Care Center. She was born on June 7, 1911, in Maryville, Tenn. Also preceded in death by parents, John and Cornelia Belle Tallent Lambert; eight brothers and four sisters, and a grandson. Survived by daughter, Cornelia Shirley Norman of Knoxville; sons, William Blake Shirley of Murfreesboro, Richard Hale Shirley of Knoxville, and Norman Lee Shirley of Arrington, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, and brother, Ray Lambert of Atlanta, Ga. She was a member of Washington Pike United Methodist Church and Bonnie Kate Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Family and friends will meet Saturday at Grandview cemetery, Maryville, for a 1 p.m. graveside service with Dr. Ralph V. Norman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, East Tennessee Region, 4708 Papermill Dr., Knoxville, TN 37909. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2001, at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.

SNYDER, NANCY ANN BREWER - age 90, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, June 18, 2001, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, after a brief illness. She had been active in the East Knoxville Community and attended Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. After moving to Knoxville from Middlesboro, Ky., in 1957, she worked as a medical secretary at the Acuff Clinic, as an accountant for Clark & Jones Music Store, for Welcome Wagon, and the A. C. Nielsen Co. She was a longtime Linden Avenue resident and had recently lived in Cumberland Estates. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Madison Brewer and Sudie Broughton Brewer; husband, Benjamin Clark Snyder and brother, Reid Brewer. Survivors include son, William Benjamin Snyder of Knoxville; brother, William Emmitt Brewer of Knoxville; sisters, Dora Carnes of Dewitt, Ky., and Orlena Bingham of Wauseon, Ohio; granddaughters, Leshia Ann Klein of Lilburn, Ga., and Lyndel Elizabeth Bennett of Dallas, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Devin, Dylan, and Lyndsey, and several nieces. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel, with interment icon following at Greenwood cemetery. The Revs. W. B. Bingham of Binghamtown Baptist Church in Middlesboro, Ky., and Jeff Lane of Cumberland Baptist Church in Knoxville will officiate. Pallbearers are Buddy Brewer, Chris Brewer, Bill Brewer, Philip Carnes, Kim Bingham, Brent Bingham, Curt Bingham, and Todd Bingham. Gifts may be made to Dewitt Baptist Church, P. O. Box 19, Dewitt, KY. 40930.

THOMAS, CATHY ANN CANNON - age 50, of Seymour, Tenn., died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer. Member of Meridian Baptist Church. She was a 1969 graduate of Bristol, Tenn. High School and a 1973 graduate of East Tennessee Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She had worked in various places in the hospital for 28 years, and was House Supervisor prior to her medical retirement in July of 2000. Over the years, she has won several awards: Employee of the Month, Several Magic Moments, Envision, and most recently The Prism Award. She helped advertise for the hospital that she lovingly called "The Big B." She always had a smile, hug, and candy in her pocket or comforting words for patients, families, and staff. One of her things was to wear "Dorothy's Red Shoes". This was one way that she witnessed to others in their time of need of her walk in Christ. She is survived by her parents, Charles and Marie Cannon; sister, Joan Hartley; two nephews, Eric Hartley and wife Jennifer and Chris Hartley, all of Bristol, Tenn., and special friend, Mike Suttles of Sevierville, Tenn., and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. She leaves three beloved pets, Rosemary, Socks, and Smudge. The family will receive friends Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Meridian Baptist Church, 6513 Chapman Hwy., Knoxville. Funeral service Thursday, 8 p.m., Meridian Baptist Church with Rev. Dana Fachman officiating. Interment icon Friday, 11 a.m., Forest Hills Memory Gardens, Abingdon, Va., with Rev. Steve Playl officiating. Memorials may be made to Baptist Hospice, c/o Dr. James Worden, 137 Blount Ave., Knoxville, TN 37920, or the American Cancer Society. VANBEBBER, MRS. JOYCE - age 59, of Maynardville, born January 11, 1942, passed away 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Pitman Creek Baptist Church, Somerset, Ky. Preceded in death by parents, Grover and Bertha Miller. Survivors: husband, Lee Roy Vanbebber of Maynardville; son and daughter-in-law, David and Dorene Evins; son, Chris Evins; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Jeff Burnett, and Karen and Billy Bailey, all of Maynardville; 10 grandchildren. Funeral services 8 p.m. Thursday, Cooke Mortuary Chapel, Rev. Tim Muncey officiating with music by the Hodge Family and Regina Brock. Interment icon 11 a.m. Friday, Halls Memory Gardens, Knoxville. Pallbearers: Pete Dax, John Hale, Gary Nicely, Michael Harris, Larry Hatmaker, and Ken Venable. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Cooke Mortuary, Maynardville.

WINGARD, LEONA HATMAKER COLLETTE - age 91, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Campbell Co. and Knoxville, passed away Monday, June 18, 2001, in St. Petersburg. Preceded in death by parents, Levi and Sarah Day Hatmaker; brother, Henry Hatmaker and sisters, Elsie McCulley, Nellie Hatmaker and Minnie Takacs. Survivors: brother, Hoover Hatmaker of LaFollette; two nieces, Mary E. Wilson of Knoxville, and Vanita Hachu of Sewaren, N.J.; two nephews, Jerry McCulley of LaFollette and John Takacs of Sewaren, N.J.; five great nephews and four great nieces. At her request the body was cremated and no service will be held. Notice by Cross Funeral Home, LaFollette.

BELL, WOODROW W., SR. - age 83, of Maryville, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of New Providence Masonic Lodge #128, and a member of the Shriners, where he drove a miniature truck in their activities. He as an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors and will be fondly remembered for his love of life, laughter, music, his enjoyment of family, RVing, and woodworking. He was co-owner of Reagan and Trotter and 3B General Contractors. Preceded in death by first wife, Maggie Mae Bell; daughter-in-law, Janie Bell, and son-in-law, Bill Caldwell. BOLES, TROY - age 77, of Knoxville, passed away Friday June 15, 2001. Member of Fort Hill Baptist Church. Retired from Levi Strauss Company after 37 years of service. He was a baseball umpire for 26 years for Knoxville City Leagues. Preceded in death by parents, Milford and Sally Boles; brother, Walter Boles; sister, Evelyn Boles. BOZEMAN, VIRGINIA BRUCE - born November 2, 1923 in Lansing, Mich., died June 16, 2001 in Memphis, Tenn. Mrs. Bozeman was a graduate of Michigan State University. She was the widow of Dr. Samuel R. Bozeman. Her survivors include her brother in law & sister in law, C. Howard & Barbara Bozeman of Knoxville; nephews, Barry R. Bozeman of California, Dr. Charles H. (Linda) Bozeman of Sevierville, David B. (Gena) Bozeman of Fairfield Glade, Tenn. Samuel R. (Dr. Megan Murray) Bozeman of Cambridge, Mass.; grandnephews & nieces, Leslie, Sarah, Chad, Allison, & Bryan Bozeman, Bronwyn, and Caleb Murray-Bozeman; very special friends, Ted & Kay Cook of Memphis. CALHOUN, BENJAMIN (BEN) L. - age 83 of Knoxville, died 10:38 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center. He was of the Baptist faith. Member of Master of Royal Secret Lodge #414 in Rockdale, Texas. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. Survivors: daughters, Susan Chilson, Barbara Jo Kaylor and Marilyn Robinson; son, Kevin Calhoun all of Fla.; eleven grandchildren; sisters, Bonnye Cate Gorman of Knoxville, Charlotte Witt of Benton, Tenn., Nancy Byrum and Betty Jo Byrum; brother, Dick Calhoun all of Madisonville, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews. DAVIS, HELEN M. - age 82, went to her eternal home Sunday, June 17, 2001, at U. T. Hospital. Mrs. Davis was a lifelong resident of the Knoxville area, and a member of New Fellowship Baptist Church. She was a devoted Christian and a loving mother. Mrs. Davis is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Horton T. Davis; brother, Ervin Crace; sister, Josephine Delinger; granddaughter, Allison Rebekah Davis, and son-in-law, Denver Stair.
