LYNSKY, DOROTHY J. - age 77 of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2001 at Ft. Sanders Parkwest Medical Center. Dorothy was of the Catholic faith. She is survived by her husband, Edmund Lynsky of Knoxville, TN; daughters and sons-in law Joan and Lawrence Markel of Knoxville, TN and Arlene and Randall Labnon of Gorham, NH; four grandchildren, Evan and Andrea of Knoxville, TN and Katherine and Christian of Gorham, NH. A service was held on Sunday, June 17, 2001 at the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 19, 2001 from 8:30 - 10:00 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m. at the Higgins Funeral Home in Roslindale, MA. Interment icon will follow in the Brookdale cemetery in Dedham, MA. Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel, 11915 Kingston Pike, is serving Mrs. Lynsky's family.

MATHENA, CLEVELAND O. - age 87 of Ftn. City, passed away Saturday morning at home. Member of Bookwalter United Methodist Church, Bright Hope Lodge #557 and Kerbela Temple, retired from Y-12. Survivors: wife of 68 years, Winnie Mathena; daughters and sons in law, Nancy and Joe Miller, Virginia and Bill Johnson and Laura and Harold Holbert; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Family and friends will meet 11 a.m. Tuesday Greenwood cemetery for a graveside service with Dr. Tom Ballard officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital, 1900 Richmond Rd. Lexington, Ky. 40502. Friends may call at their convenience Monday at Mynatt's.

MILES, GENE WAYNE - age 56 of Friendsville passed away Saturday evening, June 16, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Member of Trinity Baptist Church, Rockford. Preceded in death by daughter, Sandy Miles; parents, Robert Lee, Sr. & Maggie Bell Miles; brother, Johnny Miles. Survivors; wife, Wanda Ownby Miles; daughter & son in law, Buffy & Roger Burchfield of Walland; son & daughter in law, Travis & Robyn Miles of Greenback; grandchildren, Robby Miles, Jamie Claborn, Cody & Casey Burchfield, Cassie Miles; sisters, Berlyn Reed of Knoxville, Pat McNeal of Walland; brothers, Charles Miles of Ky., Robert Lee Miles, Jr. of Ala., Bill Miles of Maryville; several brothers in law, and sisters in law; several nieces and nephews. MURPHY, ELMER D. (BILL) - age 64, of Powell, passed away at his home Sunday morning, June 17, 2001. He was a member of Dante Baptist Church and Brother Wise Discipleship Class. Preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lula Murphy; sister, Mary White; brothers, Teddy and Mack Murphy. Survived by his wife of 40 years, Wanda M. Murphy; daughter and son-in-law, Kacey and Jay Hunt; sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Kim Murphy, Ronnie and Selina Murphy, and Donnie and Diana Murphy; 15 grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Charity and Tip Hensley, Frankie and Erle Andrews, Birdie and Gene Whitlock, Dorothy and J. C. Cox, and Magie Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Hobert and Christine Murphy, Floyd and Juanita Murphy, R.B. and Carol Murphy, and Kenny Murphy; mother-in-law, Daisy Breeden, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dante Baptist Church, Rev. Phillip Murphy officiating, then go in procession to Halls Memory Garden for interment, nephews will be pallbearers. NICHOLS, JAMES "POONEY" - age 55, of Sweetwater, Tenn. went to be with the Lord, Friday, June 15, 2001 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Sweetwater. he was a member of the American Legion Post 106. Survivors include: wife, Connie Nichols of Sweetwater; daughters and sons in law, Tracy & Robert McCann of Sweetwater, Tiffany & Scott McCosh of Niota; step children and spouses, Kim & Andy Fry of Maryville, Jerald & Julie Thomas of Jonesboro; parents, Ed & Hattie Lou Nichols of Sweetwater; brothers and sisters in law, Clinton Eugene & Becky Nichols of San Antonio, TX, Robert Lee & Carol Nichols of Gaston, Ala.; sister and brother in law, Wanda Jo & Raymond Duckett of Sweetwater; grandchildren, Kayce, Dakota, and Cassidy McCann, Alexis, Dylan, Maddie McCosh and Lauren Marie Thomas; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Charlotte Whelahan of Knoxville, Joe & Mark Huston of Sweetwater, Joe Jirles of Ten Mile. The body is at Kyker Funeral Home, Sweetwater, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 18. Funeral services at 7 p.m. Monday in Kyker's Chapel with Rev. Anderson McCulley officiating. Interment icon will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park. NISWANDER, JOHN CARL, SR. - age 83, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2001 at his home. Mr. Niswander was preceded in death by his parents, Amos Niswander and Bertha Asbury Niswander; by one sister, Mary Nancy Niswander; and by five brothers, George, Tom, Howard, Hubert, and Bill Niswander. Survivors: wife of 55 years, Lois Counts Niswander of Oliver Springs; daughter, Julia Musolf and husband, Mark of Rockwood; son, John Carl Niswander, Jr. of Oliver Springs. Mr. Niswander is also survived by nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Mr. Niswander was born August 10, 1917 in Tazewell, Virginia. He has lived in Oliver Springs since 1960. He is a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and retired from T.V.A. in 1980. He is a US Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. He attended the Oak Ridge Primitive Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Monday June 18, 2001 in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. John E. Robbins officiating. Friends may call Monday between the hours of 6-7:30 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. Burial and graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at 1 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

NOE, OLLIE JUANITA LINDSEY - age 84, of South Knoxville, was called home to rest on June 14, 2001 at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital. Ollie was a member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church. Ollie was a homemaker, who devoted her life to her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Pearl L. and Willie Bell Burnett Lindsey; her husband, Odest D. Noe; son, Allen O. Noe and brothers, John and Zack Lindsey. Survivors: daughters, Mae Williams and Margaret Hancock; grandchildren, Dani Melissa, and Timothy Brian; sisters, Ruby Moore and Mildred Baysinger; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Eula Harris, who never forgot. The family would like to thank the Homebound Department of the Sevier Heights Baptist Church. They would also like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Michael Carlson and to the E.R. Staff and two North nursing staff of Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center for their outstanding care and compassion. Funeral service will be 8 p.m. Monday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Rev. Phil Chaney and Rev. David Harkins officiating. Family and friends will meet Tuesday 11 a.m. at Forest Grove Freewill Baptist Church cemetery for an interment icon service. RANDOLPH, JACQUELYN FAYE - age 52 of Knoxville, passed away Saturday afternoon at UT Hospital. Member of West Haven Ministries Church. Survivors: son, Jerry Moore; mother, Nina Randolph; sisters, Kathy Lowery and Debbie Mucke; brother, Don Randolph. Service 7 p.m. Monday at West Haven Ministries Church, Rev. Jimmy Moore officiating. RAY, MRS. CHEN CHIN - age 37, of Knoxville, passed suddenly Saturday June 16, 2001, in Springfield, Tenn. as the result of an auto accident. She was the wife of Jim Ray of Knoxville. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Weaver Funeral Home, 5815 Western Ave., 588-3868.

SMYTH, WILLIAM GEORGE, JR. - age 88 of Knoxville, died in Largo, Fla. on February 19, 2001. He was an Elder at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church. He was a 1929 graduate of Knoxville, High School, and a 1933 graduate of University of Tennessee. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta and ODK Fraternities. He taught Knoxville High School from 1935-1941. In 1946 he opened the University of Tennessee Counseling Center, and in 1950 he transferred to UT Admissions Office where he retired as Director of Admissions in 1978. He was co founder of Vol Corps, a faculty representative of the UT Alumni Board of Governors, and was also a Tennessee representative of American College Testing Corporation from 1963-1978. He served 3 years on the Board of Trustees, was past president and organizer of Southern Assn. of college Admissions counselors, and past president of Tennessee Registrars and Admissions Officers Assoc. He served 4 years overseas during World War II in the Army military police, mostly in Australia and New Guinea. He retired as a Lt. Col. from the United States Army Reserves and was a Commander in the Tennessee Reserve Officers Assoc. He was also a life member of Military Order of the World Wars. In his retirement, Bill continued to Recruit for the University of Tennessee. He volunteered in the UT retirees office and was a volunteer for Pinellas County Transits in Fla. He was a dedicated follower of the Vols sports and loved UT. He was preceded in death by his father, Prof. W.G. Smyth, Sr., teacher and school administrator; and mother, Blanche, teacher and club leader. Survivors: wife of 56 years, Thyra; daughter and son in law, Carolyn and Daniel Dillon of Tidewater, Ore.; son and daughter in law, Dr. Willie Smyth and Angelina of Olympia, Wash.; grandchildren, Ryan and Megan Dillon of Corvallis and Tidewater, Ore., Shannon Smyth and Sofi Koftinow of Olympia, Wash., and Clara Koftinow of Eugene, Ore.; sisters in law, Viola Cowley, Elfreda George and Thoreen Jensen of Brisbane, Australia. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2001 at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church Chapel. Interment icon will follow in Greenwood cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the William George Smyth, Jr. Fund, c/o UT Office of Development, 600 Andy Holt Tower, Knoxville, Tenn. 37996. TOWE, MR. LAWRENCE WADE, JR. - age 71 of Knoxville, passed away on June 16, 2001, at the Ft. Sanders Regional Hospital. He was retired, past President of Towe Iron Works, Incorporated. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Knoxville, the South Knoxville Rotary Club, the Charles McKinney Masonic Lodge #433, Kerbela Temple, the Knoxville Chapter #69 Order of the Eastern Star, The Worthington Investment Group, The Aces Investment Group, and a veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Hux Towe. He is survived by his father, Lawrence Wade Towe, Sr.; his wife, Willayne Easterday Towe; 1 sister, Francis Towe Jenkins and husband, John; 3 brothers, Richard Towe and wife, Jewel, Donald Towe and wife, Shirley, and David Towe and wife, Faye; many nieces and nephews, family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2001, with the service to follow at 8 p.m. at the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dale Ward will officiate. Burial will be Wednesday June 20, 2001, at the Highland Memorial cemetery at 10 a.m. The family will meet at the cemetery at 9:45 a.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Towe, Jr., Steve Towe, David Towe, Jr., Jeff Towe, Chris Towe, John Jenkins, Jr. Weaver Funeral Home, 5815 Western Ave. is in charge of arrangements.

ANDERSON, MEDRA DELOIS BIBLE - went to be with the Lord Jesus Saturday evening, June 23, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, James G. (Tooker) Bible and Bernice Fox Bible of Cocke County, Tenn.; two brothers, Edward Bible and Wendell Bible; and a sister, Reba Bible Whittington. She is survived by her husband of forty-nine years, Milton Arthur Anderson; two daughters and sons in law, Valerie and Rickey Smith and Melanie and Steve Annacone; three grandchildren, Eric, Matthew and Michelle Smith all of Knoxville, Tenn.; brother, James L. Bible of Cocke County, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Anderson was a member of the first graduating class of nurses at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn. She was a Christian and a member of West Hills Baptist Church on Winston Road in Knoxville. Funeral services are planned for 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, June 26, 2001 at West Hills Baptist Church with the Reverend John Pennington and Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating. Receiving of friends will be from 6-8 p.m. prior to the service. Interment icon will be 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, June 27, 2001 in Glendale cemetery located in Cocke County. CUPP, WILLIAM NICKSON - age 84, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, June 25, 2001, at Hillcrest West Nursing Home. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. Preceded in death by wife, Mary Reese Cupp and daughter, Teri Reese Allen. Survivors include son, Michael; daughter, Robin Henegar; three grandchildren, Kip Allen, Seth Goan, and Mary Beth Henegar. Family and friends will gather for a graveside service 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at the Tennessee Veterans cemetery with Rev. Clarence Byrd officiating. DALY, MIRA "PHIL" THORP FROST - age 92, of Knoxville, resident since 1994, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Hospital. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Preceded in death by husbands, Robert L. Frost in 1939, and Timothy J. Daly in 1981; parents, Herbert S. P. and Grace Dixon Thorp. Survivors: sons and daughters-in-law, Richard R. "Dick" and Michelle Frost of Knoxville, Brian F. and Lynn L. Daly of Sacramento, Calif., Michael J.
