Survivors: daughters, Avanna Bryant of Collinsville, Alabama, Pamela Jines of Knoxville, and Sherry Nole of New Tazewell; sons, Larry David of Nashville, Randall of Trussville, Alabama, Kievin of Golden, Colorado, Marin Lee of Knoxville, Shane of Radcliff, Kentucky, and Travis of Annapolis, Maryland; sisters, Trula Lynch of New Tazewell, Anna Lee West of Knoxville, and Christine Buckner of Lenoir City; brother, Kenneth Stokes of Knoxville; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Joyce Stokes and Mrs. Martha Stokes, both of Knoxville; grandchildren, Joshua, Colten, Jason, Heather, Cameron, Bethany, Casey, and Lori Parks, Mechelle Fossette, Matthew Bryant, Truitt and Shiloh Jines; great-grandchildren, Christian and Chase Fossett and Joseph Parks; step grandchild, Jamie Nole; adoptive brother, Glen Taylor, and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, Cooke Mortuary Chapel. Family and friends will go in procession to the Irish Memorial Garden, New Tazewell, for Interment. POWERS, LOIS VIRGINIA - age 52 of Cedar Bluff, passed away on June 30, 2001. She can be called "Aunt Lois" by 26 nieces and nephews and "great aunt Lois" by 21 great nieces and nephews. Born in Middleburg, Va., Mrs. Powers was a Cub Scouts den mother in three different states, Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. She was involved in numerous community activities as well as helped with weekly deliveries of the "Love Kitchen" and coordinated the Patricia Neal Golf Classic. Mrs. Powers was an original member of the Thompson Challenge which raised funds to build the Thompson Cancer Survival Center. Of all the positions Mrs. Powers held over the years her most important position was the one of "Mom". Mrs. Powers is survived by her loving family of 34 years, husband, James Paul Powers; sons, James Paul Powers, Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., William H. Powers and wife, Debra of Knoxville, Tenn. and Captain Matthew Aaron Powers, US Air Force, currently serving in Tullahoma, Tenn.; mother, Alva M. Downs and sister, Shirley Herndon and husband, Sid of White Post, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Thompson Cancer Survival Center, the Love Kitchen, Covenant Hospice or the Parkwest Chaplain's Fund. Services will be held Tuesday July 3, at 1 p.m. at Highland West Chapel, with Rev. David Bluford officiating. Interment icon will immediately follow at Highland West cemetery. RAPER, R.B. - of Maryville died at 2:55 p.m. Monday July 2, 2001, at the family home after a long battle with cancer. He was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church and was a veteran of the US Army serving in WWII in the South Pacific. He retired from ALCOA and was a member of the 25 Year Club. Preceded in death by parents, Frank and Ella Raper; sister, Reba Lewis; brother, Ralph Lee Raper. Survivors include wife of 55 years, Geneva Sloan Raper; sons and daughters in law, James and Brenda Raper of Louisville, Donald and Addie Raper of Maryville; grandchildren, Mike and Deane Raper, Amy and Dennis Whaley, Brent Raper, Dustin Lynn Raper; great grandchildren, Lora and Steven Raper, Megan and Ashton Whaley; sister, Ruby Bennett; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Blake Tipton and Betty Payne. Funeral service will be 8 p.m. Tuesday July 3, 2001 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Harry Sheerer officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 11 a.m. Thursday July 5, 2001 at Grandview cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday July 3, 2001 at Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 983-1000.

ROBINSON, LEOTA PATTERSON - age 77, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital, Sunday, July 1, 2001. She was a member of Mouth of Richland Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jordan Robinson; parents, Hobert and Ida Patterson; sister, Frances Swayney; brothers, Ronald, Reford, Ray, and Argil Patterson. She is survived by sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda and James Nicely; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ulysess and Jo Ann Patterson, Donny and Doris Patterson, Junior and Charlotte Patterson, all of Blaine, and several nieces and nephews, and a very special friend, Velma Cameron. Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2001, in the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Lee officiating. A graveside service will be Wednesday, 11 a.m. in the Mouth of Richland cemetery. Family and friends will meet at 10:50 a.m. at the cemetery. SHELL, BARBARA - age 74, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2001, at the family home. Member of Second United Methodist Church. She was a retired Registered Nurse and Certified RN Anesthetist. Retired from Methodist Hospital of Oak Ridge. Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Denise and David Wilson of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, James and Elizabeth St. Clair of Calgary, Canada; grandchildren, Travis Wilson, Brennan Wilson, Lauren St. Clair; sister, Mildred Zalvis of Decatur, Georgia; brothers, William E. Thomas of Marietta, Georgia, and Jerry J. Thomas of Knoxville, and several nieces and nephews and cousins. Special friend, Jean Brown of Knoxville. Family and friends will meet at the entrance to Woodlawn cemetery on Thursday at 10:45 a.m. for an 11 a.m. graveside service and interment. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Ave. at Broadway.

SUTTON, LOUIS D. - age 76 of West Knoxville, passed away Monday July 2, 2001 at his home. He was a member of West Park Baptist Church and retired from American General Life Insurance Company. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran, having served on Guadalcanal. Commander V.F.W. Post No. 157 and a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No 4 and a Kentucky Colonel for over 30 years. Preceded in death by father, Earnest L. Sutton. Survivors: wife, Lois Sutton; son, Robert Louis Sutton; daughters, Carolyn Gallagos, Theresa Hawes; several grandchildren. Mr. Sutton is at Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 5315 Kingston Pike where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday with funeral to follow at 8 p.m. in Highland Chapel. The family and friends will meet at Highland Memorial Funeral Home at 9:15 a.m. Friday and proceed to Tennessee Veterans cemetery for a 10 a.m. graveside service. U. S. TEETERS, CURTIS LEE - he was killed in an accident on Friday the 29th, he was 49 yrs. old and lived in Alabama. He was of the Baptist faith. he was also an Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Wilmeth Sneed. Survivors include son, Kevin Teeters and granddaughter, Haley Teeters; other survivors include his mother, Velma Teeters of Greenback; father, Bill Teeters of Maryville; brother & sister in law, Clifton & Janice Teeters of Loudon; brother, David Teeters of Knoxville and one sister & brother in law, Denise & William Presley of Maryville; several aunts & uncles and several nieces & nephews. She was a member of Mount Airy United Methodist Church. She was owner and operator of Buffalo Trail Gift Shop. Mrs. Wade was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Wade; parents, Judge A. O. and Claudia Debord Livingston; sister, Jessie Mae Wallen; brothers, William Livingston and Hobart Livingston; nephews, Condra Livingston and Al Livingston. Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews and special friends, Ronnie and Ann Pressley of Morristown, and Ann Bright of Bulls Gap. WATSON, OEDA JACKSON - age 80 of Knoxville, went home to be with the Lord at Fort Sanders Hospital Sunday July 1, 2001. She was a charter member and former Sunday school teacher at Churchwell Ave. Baptist Church. She was very active in the Gospel Tract Ministry. Mrs. Watson worked at Courtesy Grocery Store, which was a family owned business for many years. Survivors: her husband of 48 years, Luther Watson; son and daughter in law, Dwight and Theresa Watson; grandsons, Samuel and Aaron; sister, Laverne Ritter all of Knoxville; brother, Nylis D. Jackson of Indianapolis, Ind.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel with Rev. Bill Romines officiating. WEIGEL, CHARLES WILLARD - age 86 of Farragut, died Sunday July 1, 2001 at Fort Sanders Parkwest Hospital. He was a member of Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church, retired from Knoxville Farmer's Co-op. He attended the University of Tennessee and was former Director of the Knox County Farm Bureau. He was preceded in death by parents, Archie Walter and Myrtle Burkhart Weigel; and sister and brother in law, Mary Frances and Wallace Burroughs. Survivors: wife of 52 years, Wanda Pratt Weigel; daughters and sons in law, Charlene and Jack Troutt, Rosemary and Carl Rutherford, all of Farragut; grandchildren, Celeste Lewis and husband, James G. Lewis, Jr., Nathan Troutt and wife, Rebecca, Andrew Rutherford, Jennifer Rutherford; great granddaughter, Elizabeth Grace Troutt; sister in law, Gladys Pratt, Knoxville; brothers in law, Floyd Pratt of Athens, Tenn., Sherman Breeden, Atlanta, Ga., Glyn Bounds, Lebanon, Tenn.; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. YOHE, BARBARA S. - age 73, died July 2, 2001, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Canton, Ohio, on December 30, 1927. Barbara graduated McKinley High School, Canton, Ohio, 1945 and Ohio University, 1949. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Taught at Lehman High School, Canton, Ohio; participated with her husband on the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ 1978-1995; formerly a member of Miami Shores Presbyterian Church, Miami, Fla.; currently a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church, Knoxville, Tenn. Survived by her husband, Walter Yohe of Knoxville, Tenn. and three daughters, Diane Morris and her husband, Allen Morris, of Miami, Fla., Nancie Merrill and her husband, Harrison Merrill of Atlanta, Ga., Marcia Burnham and her husband, Peter Burnham of Luxembourg City, Luxembourg; thirteen grandchildren, Olivia, Lisel, Mallori and Spencer Morris, Brittany, Harrison, Lindsay, Daniel and Tinsley Merrill, Jane, Sara, Will and Anne Burnham. ADKINS, REVEREND KELLEY S. - age 89, of Maynardville, passed away after a lingering illness on Sunday, July 1, 2001, at St. Mary's Residential Hospice. Rev. Adkins pastored churches in Briceville, Heiskell and Cleveland, Tenn., and was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church in Luttrell. He received his 50 year pin in January as a member of the J.C. Baker Masonic Lodge #720 F&AM. He was a retired employee from the Knoxville U.S. Post Office, and since his retirement he enjoyed the fellowship of the Union County Senior Center. The son of the late J.B. and Martha J. Adkins. He is survived by wife, Ruby Owen Adkins; son and daughter in law, Keith and Lynn Adkins OF Maynardville; son, Ralph Adkins of Nashville; granddaughter, Carrie Tolliver of Maynardville; brother, Vesco Adkins of Luttrell. BABCOCK, JENNY RUTH - age 68, passed away Friday, June 15, 2001, at the Fort Walton Beach Hospital in Florida, after a brief illness. Jenny was a 1951 graduate of Knoxville High School, and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Her work life was spent in Long Island, New York, where she was employed as an Educational Librarian. After retirement, she lived in Knoxville for a time, and then moved to Destin, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. C. Babcock and Eunice Foster Babcock, and by brother, James C. Babcock, Jr. She is survived by numerous aunts and cousins of the Babcock, Foster and Creekmore families. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Highland Memorial cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service with Reverend Christopher Leonard, Associate Pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service. BANISTER, LACY ADAMS - age 73, of LaFollette, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2001, at his home. He was a faithful and active member of West LaFollette Baptist Church since 1952. He was a deacon, former choir director and Sunday School Teacher. He retired from Bell South with 33 years of service. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mary Adams Banister; brothers, Percy and John Banister. Survivors: wife of 51 years, Joyce Banister of LaFollette; son and daughter-in-law, Don and Joyce Banister of Houston, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Dana Lowe of LaFollette; sister, Mary Graham of Cadiz, Ky.; brother, Claude Banister of Memphis, Tenn.; grandchildren, Amy and Rob Kibler, Daniel and Sarah Johnson, Andrew Banister, Adam and Mitchell Lowe, and a host of other relatives and friends.
