BROGDON, RET. COL. ALVEN L. - age 69, of Rockwood, departed this life July 2, 2001, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Hospital, to be with our Lord and Savior. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Evans Mortuary with the funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. Graveside services and interment icon will be held Friday morning, July 6, at 10 a.m. in the Oak Grove cemetery with full military honors by the Roane County Volunteer Honor Guard.

CHISAM, FREDRICK MARTIN - age 72, of Farragut, formerly of Athens, Tullahoma, and McMinnville, passed away early Monday morning, July 2, 2001, at U.T. Medical Center. Fred was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church. He was draftsman with T. V. A. until his retirement. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the Army Signal Corp. Fred was a graduate of Tennessee Tech. He was an avid Tennessee sports fan. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, William and Maple Martin Chisam; sister, Wilma Chisam Ferguson. Survivors: mother of his children, Reba Chisam of Alcoa; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Bucky Solomon and their child, Bryce of Knoxville, Rickye and Joe Baker and their daughters, Abbye and Blair of Woodstock, Ga., and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1-2:45 p.m. Wednesday followed by funeral services at 3 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with Rev. Stephen DeFur officiating. Family and friends will gather at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2001, at the Tennessee State Veterans cemetery for graveside services with Rev. Andy Ferguson and Rev. CLARK, CORA M. - of Knoxville, departed this life on Saturday, June 30, 2001, at U. T. Medical Center. She was a member of the McDonald Road Church of Christ. Survivors include sons, William Shalaby Rasheed, Herbert Mattox and Heber Clark, Jr.; step daughters, Ruby (Lewis) Clark Sutton of Cherry Point, N.C., Annie Battle, Susie Clark, Rosa Clark, Minnie Irene Clark, Willie B. Clark, and Minnie (Clifford) Chesney, all of Knoxville; grandchild, Kenny Benton and a host of other relatives and friends to include special friends, Sandra White, Felix Phillips, Earnest (Rumale) Hester, Bernice Manning, Hearman (Rosalee) Burris and Jessie Grandberry. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 5, 2001, from 1-1:30 p.m. at McDonald Road Church of Christ with funeral service to follow at 1:30 p.m., Brother David Meeks officiating. COFFEY, TERESA D. - age 41, of East Knoxville, passed away Monday, July 2, 2001, at Holston Healthcare. She was of the Baptist faith. She fought a long courageous battle with cancer and will be sadly missed by family. Preceded in death by parents, Roy Wesley Bounds and Sylvia Jean Rush. Survivors: children, Sylvia and husband Dustin Glenn, and Steven Coffey; grandson, Tyler Glenn; brothers, Roy and Kirk Bounds, and sister, Sherri Hall, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. COOK, MRS. ROBERTA "BERTIE" BROOKS - age 71, born January 5, 1930, passed away peacefully at 1:33 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at her home. A truly wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Cook was a retired employee of the Jefferson County School System, having served for more than 30 years at Rush-Strong School. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Strawberry Plains. Surviving is her husband of 53 years, Roy E. Cook of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Larry Burcham of Gatlinburg; son and daughter-in-law, David and Nora Cook of Strawberry Plains; daughter, Cathy Kirk of Strawberry Plains; grandchildren, Barrett and Holly Burcham, and Ben and Wendi Cook; step grandchildren, Cassie and Ashley Adkins; sisters, Vivian Bailey, Jewell Hux, Anice Ogle, and Carolyn "Corky" Brooks, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday morning, July 6, 2001, at the First Baptist Church of Strawberry Plains with Reverend Mike Boatfield and Reverend Craig Ward officiating. Interment icon will follow in the Strawberry Plains cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harold Lawson, Ralph Lawson, Greg Lower, Harold Taylor, Wayne McDaniel and Shane Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Les Hargrove, Dr. Daniel Ibach, Staff Members of Thompson Cancer Center, and Staff of Covenant Hospice. COX, NELLE WALKER - age 93, of Kingston, passed away Monday, July 2, 2001, at the Rockwood Health Care Center. She was a charter member of Liberty Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her husband, John N. Cox, and two brothers, Wesley and Douglas Walker. Survivors include daughter, Jane Cox of Kingston; sons and daughters-in-law, Marshall and Louise Cox, and James and Jeanette Cox, all of Kingston; son, Winston Cox of Knoxville; sister, Addie Williams of Knoxville; brothers, Freeman Walker and Virgil Walker, both of Knoxville; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. DAVIS, DAVID VAUGHN (D. V. ) - age 62, of Corryton, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at his home. Preceded in death by father, Authur Davis and mother, Lillian Braden Davis, and brother, Mickey Davis. Survivors: wife, Janice Davis; sons, William Davis of New Jersey, Vince Davis of Valdolsta, Ga., Scott Davis of Powell and Robbie Davis of Knoxville; daughters, Kimberly Bell of Knoxville, Teresa Johnson of Lenoir City, Angie Windham of Knoxville, and Tina Thomas Davis of Corryton; 16 grandchildren; brothers, Jimmy, Lynn and Dennis Davis, all of Knoxville; sisters, Katie Franklin of Maryville and Kelly Davis of Knoxville; special friends, Eddie Windham of Kentucky, Leroy and Charlotte Ramsey, Jessica and Jeff Stubbs, Tommy and Debbie DeBusk and PeeWee Robinson, all of Knoxville, and several nieces and nephews. DeMARCUS, WILLIAM ELLIS - age 82, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born June 24, 1919, to Josiah and Merica DeMarcus in Andersonville, Tenn. Member of Lincoln Park Baptist Church, was retired from the U. S. Postal Service, and was a U. S. Army World War II Veteran. Preceded in death by wife, Evelyn Rose Farmer DeMarcus; three brothers, and two sisters. Survivors: daughters, Mary Kay Fox of Norman, Okla., Susie Llewellyn and husband Marty of Knoxville, and Sherrie DeMarcus of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and wife Myrna DeMarcus of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Hutchison of Chattanooga; brother, Joe DeMarcus and wife Shirley of Norris, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 8 p.m. Thursday, Mynatt's Chapel, Rev. Ted Ingram and Rev. John Holland officiating. Family and friends will meet at 4 p.m. Friday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church cemetery for interment. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Mynatt's.

DRAKE, MR. ROBERT YOUNG, JR. - age 70, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2001, in Ripley, Tenn. Mr. Drake was an author and retired English Professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville., He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Knoxville. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Immanuel Episcopal Church with burial in Maplewood cemetery. ELKINS, JACK LYNDELL - age 65, of Seymour, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2001. Member of Meridian Baptist Church. He was employed by W. J. Savage Company for 42 years. He was an avid golfer at Green Meadow Country Club. Survivors: wife, Joan Elkins; son, Chad Elkins; daughter and son-in-law, Mimsy and Stanley Fleming; daughter, Michelle Boyd; granddaughter, Landrie Fleming; mother, Vola Lawson, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral service Thursday, 8 p.m. , Berry Chapel with Rev. Dana Fachman officiating. Interment icon Friday, 11 a.m., Highland South cemetery. ELLIS, GUS McDANIEL, JR. - age 88, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Holston Health Center. He was a loving Father and Grandfather and Husband, and an active member of Fountain City United Methodist Church. He was chaplain for Sons of the American Revolution and retired Lt. Col. Army Corps of Engineers and a former employee of W. J. Savage Company, where he retired after 30 plus years of service. Survivors: wife, Betty J. Ellis of Knoxville; sons and daughters-in-law, Ray Danny and Cherl Ellis of Alpharetta, Ga., and Doug Ellis of Maryville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Russell Ellis, Rebekka Ellis, John Ellis, Lauri Coffey, Michael Morettini, and Kristinia Ellis. Arrangements will be announced later by Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 588-0567.

FOX, MRS. AMIE L. - age 88, of Corryton, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Hilllcrest North Nursing Home. Member of Clear Branch Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, Shannon B. Fox; parents, John and Dora Walker, along with all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by brother in law and sister in law, Rex and Mattie Fox of Corryton; sisters in law, Frances Fox of Knoxville, and Marie Fox of Corryton, along with a host of nieces and nephews. Interment icon will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Blaine's Chapel cemetery with Rev. Charles Tindell and Rev. Gary Beeler officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Preceded in death by husband, Cecil Earl Giffin; brothers, Press, R. C., and Rufus Huffstetler, and sister, Ruby Clark. Survivors: sons and daughters-in-law, Earl and Margaret Giffin of Maryville, Sam Giffin of Illinois, and Bob Giffin of Georgia; daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and James Loring of Illinois, Betty Giffin of Illinois, Dorothy Walker of California, and Nancy and Paul Giacolona of Indiana; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sisters, Essie Carpenter and Etta Bea Harris, both of Maryville, and several nieces and nephews. HARDWAY, GERALDINE (JERRI) - age 71, of West Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Member of Central Baptist Church of Bearden. Retired from the State of Tennessee at Lakeshore Mental Health Institute, where she served as a store manager and purchasing agent. She was a member of Daughters of the Nile Chapter #147 Abdiel Temple and the Abdiel Temple Pageantry Unit. Survivors include husband, Charles Hardway; son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Debi Hardway; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and David Davenport; daughter, Karen Faye Prince; sister, Jean Wilson; grandchildren, Christy Ross, Brittany Hardway, Kyle, Max, and Elena Davenport; great-grandchildren, Brooks and Morgan, and many loving nieces and nephews and other relatives. Services by Daughters of the Nile at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to be immediately followed by funeral services with Rev. George Doebler officiating. KECK, MR. LAWRENCE EDWARD - age 36, of New Tazewell, Tenn., was born January 18, 1965, and went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ, Monday, July 2, 2001. He professed Faith in Christ at an early age, and lived his Faith. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Thelma Carmon; grandmother, Vinie Duncan; grandfather, Edgar H. Keck; aunt, Mary Lou Carmon, and uncles, Kemp, John Byrl (J.B.), William and Willard Carmon. He is survived by his Mother, Lois E. (Carmon) Keck of New Tazewell, Tenn.; father, Ralph E. Keck of New Tazewell, Tenn.; sister, Nickie Nicole Keck of Tazewell, Tenn.; brother, Robert and wife Linda Keck of New Tazewell, Tenn.; niece, Chelsea Faith Keck of New Tazewell, Tenn.; grandfather, Lawrence Duncan of New Tazewell, Tenn. and uncle, Alvin and wife Martha Duncan and children Bradley and Paula, and a host of great aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends whom he loved dearly. LEITCH, STIRLING - was born September 30, 1917, in Pittsburgh, Penn. Mr. Leitch came to Tennessee, after high school graduation to join his dad. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1942, in Agriculture Engineering. After graduation, Mr. Leitch worked for Alcoa Aluminum Company for a short time before being hired by Tennessee Farm Bureau Insurance in 1950 and retired in 1986. Mr. Leitch married Edith Hitch of Maryville, Tenn., on September 4, 1942. They have four children, Louise Ridenour and husband Minnis of Blacksburg, Va., Jean Hubbs and husband Bob of Maryville, Tenn., Tom Leitch and wife Sherry of Parsons, Tenn., and Albert Leitch and wife Gail of Seymour, Tenn.; grandchildren, Mark Leitch and wife Kathy, Amy Holder and husband Darren, Kent Leitch, Bobbi Hubbs, Brandi Goff and husband Jeremy, Jenny Fugate and husband Brian, T. J. Leitch, Brent Ridenour, and Leigh Anne and husband David Bryd; great-grandchildren, Brandon Leitch and Madison Goff. He is also survived by a brother, Robert H. Leitch, Jr. of Delaware. Mr. Leitch was a very devoted husband and father. He was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church and a former member of Logan's Chapel. He was a Mason and member of Maryville Kiwanis Club. He served on the Blount Memorial Auxiliary in many areas from 1986 until 2000. He participated in the Chirp Program at Maryville College from 1981 to 1999. He was preceded in death by brother, Addison H. Leitch and sister, Margaret Leitch. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Broadway United Methodist Church with Dr. James A. Dougherty and Rev. Thomas H. Lynch officiating. The interment icon will follow in Grandview cemetery with Rev. Dallas Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the family home, 820 Chilhowee View Road, Maryville, and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at Broadway United Methodist Church. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Broadway United Methodist Church, 309 E.
