STAMPER, THOMAS (T.W.) - age 73, of Vonore, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at the Loudon Hospital. He was born in Crandon, Wis., on July 9, 1927, to the late Henry and Stella (Ashley) Stamper. A member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Lenoir City. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy and U. S. Army, serving from 1944 to 1957, in war and overseas duty. He was retired from his own business, T. W. Stamper Excavating and Stamper Sod and Tree Service. T. W. was a member of the American Legion Ivo Sanders Post #120, Loudon and VFW Post. He was formerly married to Herma Bellman and Lois Howard. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Edgar, Ray and Henry Jr. Stamper, and sister, Alma Mae Bowman. Survived by sons, Jim Stamper of Michigan and Steve Phillips of Lenoir City; several grandchildren of Michigan and Tennessee; brothers, Elmer, Willard, and Lester Stamper, all of Michigan, and Ralph Stamper of Wisconsin; sisters, Irene Petrosky and Faye Nagel, both of Michigan, and several nieces and nephews. Special friend, Delores (Doodle) Lee of Lenoir City. Friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, July 8, 2001, from 2-4 p.m. at the family home, 365 Lovin Farms Court in Vonore. A memorial service will be held later in Howell, Michigan. Click Funeral Home, Lenoir City, is serving the Stamper Family.

STROTHER, OBIE D. - age 82 of Knoxville, passed away July 5, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center. Army veteran of WWII. Preceded in death by parents, Oscar & Ellie Strother & brother, Perry Strother. Survived by wife, Bobbie Jones Strother; daughters & son in law, Kay & Charles Sanavitis and Angela Strother; grandchildren, Bobbi Harvey, Lori Jordan, and Michael Sanavitis; great grandchildren, Kara & Kaleigh Jordan; brother, Oscar Strother; sisters, Elizabeth Watson and Vera Godsey; several nieces & nephews. The family will receive friends 11-12 Saturday at Weaver's Chapel with the service to follow at 12 noon. Family and friends will meet at Union Baptist Church cemetery in Wartburg for burial at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Arrangements by Weaver Funeral Home, 5815 Western Ave.

TESTER, MR. GERALD DEAN - age 70, of Sharps Chapel, was born May 17, 1931, and passed away Friday, June 29, 2001, at the Claiborne County Hospital. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, E. V. and Leffie Tester. He is survived by his sons and their wives: Roy and Carol Tester of West Bloomfield, Mich., Dale and Cathy Tester of White Lake, Mich., Allen and Martha Tester of Huntington, Ind., Frank Tester of West Bloomfield, Mich., and Jerry Tester of Durand, Mich.; sister, Wilma Shipley of Kingsport, Tenn. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001, at the Claiborne Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be announced later. Claiborne Funeral Home, in charge of arrangements.

THOMPSON, CLAUDIUS R. - age 89, of Sweetwater, Tenn., departed this life, Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Knoxville, Tenn. He was a member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church of Sweetwater. Retired from Sweetwater Hospital after 61 years of service. Preceded in death by parents, Annie Upton Thompson Brown and Samuel Houston Thompson; wife, Lucille Thompson; sons, Claudius Thompson, Jr., Donald Thompson, and John Brown. Survivors include sons and spouses, William and Sherry Thompson of San Diego, Calif., and Danny and Joy Thompson of Knoxville, Tenn.; sisters, Marcella Latham of Sweetwater, Tenn., and Oneida King of San Diego, Calif.; sister-in-law, Nannie Thompson of Knoxville, Tenn.; special friends, Louise Ratledge, and Geraldine and Andy White of Sweetwater, Tenn.; grandchildren, Shannon Thompson, Jillian Thompson, Cameron Thompson, Caleb Thompson, Kippy Brown, Johnny Brown, Vanessa James, Gerald Brown, Veronica Wilkins, and Samuel Brown, and a host of relatives and friends. The body is at Kyker Funeral Home, Sweetwater, where the family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, in Kyker's Chapel with Rev. J. C. WILLIAMS, MARGARET COOK - 69, of 1204 Stephens Dr. Madisonville, passed away 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at her home. Daughter of the late Robert Samuel & Alene Cook. Member of South Madisonville Baptist Church. Survivors: husband of 44 years, R.C. Willliams; daughters, Sharon Williams, Carolyn Trentham, both of Madisonville; son & daughter in law, Rodney Chris & Sherry Williams, Tellico Plains; grandchildren, Jeremy Trentham, Madisonville, Eric, Brian & Jennifer Kilby all of Tellico Plains; sister & brother in law, Nellie Jean & Hershel Henry; brothers and sisters in law, Robert Samuel, Jr. & Wanda Cook, Jack & Sherry Cook, William C. (Buster) & Peggy Cook, Mary Atkins; mother in law, Ann Williams, all of Madisonville; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brothers, Fred, Jimmy & Ted Cook. WOLFE, RUTH ROLLINS - age 82, of 8275 W. Lee Hwy., Lenoir City, passed away Thursday morning, July 5, 2001, at Loudon Health Care Center. Ruth was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by husband, Kenneth Wolfe; parents, Sam and Nellie Brannon Rollins, and sister, Elizabeth Rollins. Survivors: special friends, Bill and Mary Lankford and Dee Arnold of Loudon. Funeral services will be 7:30 p.m. Friday, Loudon Funeral Home, Rev. Gene Russell officiating. Retired from Beaty Chevrolet after 26 years of service, and was an ardent farmer. Preceded in death by wife, Beulah Mendenhall-Atkins and son, Roy Marshall Atkins; brothers, Vasco, Raymond, Lester and Walter Atkins. He is survived by wife of 34 years, Wanda Longmire-Atkins; sister, Fronie Simmons of Luttrell; grandchildren, Ronald Atkins and wife, Cathy of Corryton, Steve Atkins and wife, Cyndy of Knoxville, Kathy Atkins-Thornhill and husband, Eugene of Blaine; great grandchildren, Nicole Trout of Blaine, Tonya King of Corryton, Jonathan Atkins of Puerto Rico and Christopher Atkins of Luttrell; 4 great-great grandchildren; brother and sister in law, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Arm; along with several nieces and nephews. BELL, CAROLYN ANN THOMPSON - age 55 years, of Knoxville, beloved wife and mother went to be with her Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, July 5, 2001. Carolyn Bell became a Christian at age 11, and attended Arlington Baptist Church. Survived by her husband of 32 years, Alfred B. Bell; daughter, Rebecca Ann Bell of Knoxville; brothers and sisters, Ray Thompson and sister-in-law, Glenda Thompson of Knoxville, Lucille Thompson Cox of Titusville, Florida, Mary Thompson Coffman and brother-in-law, Carter Coffman of Luttrell, Imogene Staley and brother-in-law, Elmer Staley of Luttrell, Eddie Thompson and sister-in-law, Amy Thompson of Luttrell; parents-in-law, A. B. and Joyce Bell of Powell; brother-in-law, David Bell of Powell, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Edward Thompson and Vena Tindell Thompson of Luttrell. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Arlington Baptist Church, Saturday, July 7, at 7 p.m. with visitation with the family to follow. CARTER, EDITH SWANN - 74 of Seymour passed away Thursday, July 5, 2001 at the Baptist Hospital of East Tenn. in Knoxville. Mrs. Carter was a Methodist by faith. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, San and Bertha Rolen Howard and sisters, Ester Morgan and Lola Hatcher. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joseph Carter, Sr.; sons and daughters in law, Joe and Brenda Carter, Jr., Phil and Sharon Carter, Larry and Pam Carter, Jerry and Pam Carter; daughter, Teresa Carter all of Seymour; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sister and brother in law, Ila and Ace Adams of Knoxville; special friend, Amy Setzkorn; several newly found family members in middle Tenn. and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday July 8 at Boyds Creek cemetery with Rev. Charles Maynard officiating. CURETON, ROSA LEE - age 91 of Knoxville, passed away Friday July 6, 2001 at Hillcrest North Nursing Home. Member of Lincoln Park Baptist Church. Survivors include daughter and son in law, Aileen and L.H. Fair of Louisville, Ky.; granddaughters, Suzie Raines of Atlanta, Ga. and Lee Ann Winstead of Louisville, Ky.; three great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. FLAGG, FRANKLYN JAMES - died on June 26, 2001 in Raleigh, NC. Frank, as he was fondly called by family and friends was preceded in death by parents, Charles and Susie Thornton Flagg; five brothers, John, Charlie, Cecil, Alton, and Alfred Flagg. Frank was 96 years old. He graduated from St. Augustine College and remained a constant supporter because of his devotion to the institution. He worked for many years at North Carolina University until his retirement. Frank was a dedicated member of the Wilson Temple United Methodist Church, and made many contributions throughout the years to his church and community activities. He is survived by his devoted wife, Louise; two grandchildren, Jimmy Flagg and Valerie Flagg Smith; a loving daughter in law, Gladys Flagg Curtis, all of Houston, TX; two sisters in law, Margaret Flagg of Knoxville, Tenn. and Dorothy Flagg of Charlotte, NC; other relatives and a host of very special friends. GOLDMAN, CLARK ALLEN - age 18, of Fountain City, died June 30, 2001 in a single car accident. He attended Central High School and was active in the Drama Club, Men's Choir, and tennis team. He enjoyed the mountains and liked to camp, fish, and backpack. Music was an important part of his life and going to concerts was a favorite pastime. He loved getting involved in the frenzy at UT football games. He was a youth member of Saint Paul's Methodist Church. His many friends described him as a very kind and loving person who went out of his way in giving help and assistance to others in need. His ashes will be dispersed into the Pacific Ocean off of Lover's Point in Monterey, California. He is survived by his father, Don Goldman of Fountain City; his mother, Maria Goldman of Salinas, California; and brothers, Adam and Gabriel Cordova. There will be an annual Clark Allen Goldman Memorial Scholarship awarded to a graduating member of the Drama/Choir Department at Central High School. HAWLEY, MRS. JUNE NELSON - 71, a resident of Greensboro, NC passed away Thursday, July 5, 2001 at her home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday July 7, 2001 at the New Garden Friends Church cemetery in Greensboro, NC. Reverend David Bills will officiate. Mrs. Hawley was born January 14, 1930 in Westfield, Mass. to the late Robert Raymond Nelson and Susan Jane Shepard Nelson. She attended Westfield High School and then Guilford College in Greensboro, NC where she met her husband of fifty-one years, Charles Darwin Hawley. The City of Greensboro and Jefferson Standard Company employed her prior to her dedication to her family as wife, mother, and homemaker. Mrs. Hawley was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and was active in local school affairs and serving with her husband as an official for the US Swim Organization. In addition to her parents, her youngest daughter, Susan, predeceased Mrs. Hawley. She leaves her husband, Charles Darwin Hawley of the home; daughter, Lynn Hawley-Browning and husband, Gordon of Greensboro, NC; daughter, Diane Hawley-Oliver and husband, James of Knoxville, Tenn.; son, Bennett Shepard Hawley and wife, Cyndee of High Point, NC; and son, Keith Granville Hawley and wife, Kristen of Knoxville, Tenn. as well as four grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at the Hawley residence of 1121 Summer Place, Greensboro, NC following the graveside service. JOHNSON, FLORA TURNER - age 80 of Knoxville, died 10:45 p.m. Thursday July 5, 2001 at NHC Healthcare Emerald Ave. Member of Lincoln Park Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, Ralph E. Johnson. Survivors: daughter and son in law, Linda and Gary E. Maness, Knoxville; sister, Judy Price, Miami, Fla. Family and friends will meet at the main entrance to Lynnhurst cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday for an 11 a.m. graveside service and interment. Rev. Keith Walker will officiate. KELLY, MRS. AGNES E. - of Knoxville, entered into eternal rest July 2, 2001, at East Tenn. Baptist Hospital. Retired from the Employment Security (1991). A faithful member of the College Hills Seventh Day Adventist Church. The widow of the late Herbert C. Kelly. Survived by children, Wilfred Cordell and Ivan Kelly; 2 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister in law, Mrs. Lois Kelly; host of cousins and other relatives and many-many devoted church family and friends. The family will receive friends Sunday July 8, 2001, 1:30-2 p.m. at College Hills Seventh Day Adventist Church 1837 Brandau Street. Funeral services to follow, 2 p.m. Pastor Vincent White, officiating. Interment icon Highland South (Holly Hills). The family and friends will assemble at the mortuary Sunday at 1 p.m. for the procession to the church. Services entrusted to Jarnigan & Son Mortuary.
