BEELER, ULIS S., JR. - age 76, of Halls, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center. He was a member of Milan Baptist Church, and a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II. Preceded in death by parents, Ulis S. Beeler, Sr., and Lissie Beeler; brothers, Roy, J. W. and Xen Beeler; sisters, Ettalee Bowman and Vontella Kitts. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Johnny Denton; son, Ricky W. Beeler; sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell (Buddy) and Kathy Beeler, Bobby and Sheila Beeler; grandchildren, Missi and Jennifer Denton, Amanda, Ashley, Jonathan and Brittney Beeler; sister, Ruby Myers; special niece, Dorothy (Ducell) Rose, and several other nieces and nephews and many friends at Sunnybrook Apartments. Family and friends will meet at Tennessee Veterans cemetery for a graveside service 10 a.m. Wednesday Rev. Elbert Kitts and Rev. Walker Kitts officiating. Military honors will be provided by East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mynatt's.

BISHOP, MAXINE (ELDRIDGE) - age 81 of North Knoxville, passed away 12:57 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the daughter of William Simeon "Doc" and Nellie Atkins Eldridge. Graduate of Knoxville High School class of 1939-B. Maxine was a community volunteer and served as a volunteer "Pink Lady" at St. Mary's Medical Center for 31 years and was coordinator of the Candy Striper volunteer program for 3 years. She was also a member of the St. Mary's volunteer "I can't believe it's a Band-Band." Maxine was named a "Point of Light" for volunteerism by President George P. Bush in 1991 during the city of Knoxville Bicentennial Celebration. She was a longtime member of Magnolia Ave. United Methodist Church and presently a member of First United Methodist Church. She was active in the United Methodist Women, longtime member of the Pollyanna Sunday School class and presently a member of the Fellowship Class. Maxine was preceded in death by loving husband, Ernest Clark Bishop; parents, Will & Nell Eldridge; sisters, Juanita Mankel & Patsy Rouser; brothers, Carson "Buck" Eldridge & Joe Eldridge; sisters in law, Dot King Eldridge & Dot Pack Eldridge; brothers in law, Frank Mankel, Dick Rouser & Kurt Peters. Survivors: daughter and son in law, Carol & Ray Clift, Knoxville; granddaughter and grandson in law, Suzanne & Dwight Dickey; great granddaughters, Leslie, Julie & Kellie Dickey all of New Market, Tenn.; sister & brother in law, Nell & Sam Boehms, St. Louis, Mo.; sister, Katherine Peters, Maryville; brothers & sisters in law, Bob & Lorraine Eldridge West Palm Beach, Fla., Gary & Peggy Eldridge, Knoxville; sisters in law, Ada Mae Faulkner, Wilmington, Del., Edith Bishop, Knoxville; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; special friends, Christine Huguley & cousin in law, Jean Jones; special neighbors, Dot Elliott & Helen Lane. Preceded in death by wife, Geneva Butler; parents, Samuel L. Butler and Anna Bell Carpenter Butler; sisters, Iva Brock, Hazel Jones Cates and Alta Stormer; brothers, Thurman, Herbert, Franklin, Charles, Bobby, Alton and Dewetta Butler. Survivors: son, Gary Butler and son and daughter in law, Stanley and Shirley Butler; grandchildren, Niki Davis and husband, Vernon, Jordan and Ada Butler; sisters, Sammie Ann Hensley, Bessie Henderlight and Laurie Butler; brother, L.B. GOODSON, JOSEPH MOFFITT - age 53, died Sunday July 8, 2001 at his home. He was a member of St. John's Cathedral. Vice President of Goodson Brothers Coffee Company. Goodson, Jr. Survivors: sons, Ross Moffitt Goodson, Stephen Kroog Goodson; daughter, Barbara Elizabeth Goodson, and Aleise Stanwood Goodson; mother, Betsy Moffitt Goodson; brother, James F. Goodson, all of Knoxville; nephew, Floyd P. Goodson, II of Atlanta, Ga. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 a.m. graveside and interment icon service with a memorial service following at St. John's Cathedral at 11 a.m. with the Very Rev. John C. Ross officiating. GRANT, JAMES C., SR. - age 61 of Knoxville, passed away Monday July 9, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital. Preceded in death by sister, Barbara Childress. Survivors: children, James (Jimbo) Grant, Jr., Wendy Eggleton and Steve W. Grant; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brothers, Alfred and Joe Grant, sister, Janet Greene. Family and friends will meet at Mynatt's Funeral Home 11:30 Wednesday and proceed to Greenwood cemetery for a graveside service at 12 noon, Rev. Darrell Beeler officiating. HAMRICK, GILBERT, SR. - age 62, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2001. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Hattie Hamrick. Survivors are ex-wife, Elaine Hamrick of Rogersville; sons, Gilbert Hamrick, Jr. of Powell, David Hamrick of Knoxville, Gregory Hamrick of Bean Station; daughters, Katrina Hamrick of Rogersville, Yvonne Hamrick of Bean Station; 2 step sons; sister, Minnie Pearl Weaver of Rogersville; grandchildren, Robert C. Hamrick, Joshua Adams, Abigail Hamrick and Tiffany Hamrick, many friends and family. A graveside service will be held Tuesday July 10, 2001 in the Central Point cemetery at 10 a.m. The family and friends will meet there. Arrangements by Smith Funeral Home in Rutledge, Tenn.

HARMON, GLADYS MARINE - age 85 of the Erie Community formerly of West Knox Co. passed away Sunday, July 8, 2001 at the Park West Hospital. She was of the Baptist faith. Preceded in death by her husband, James S. Harmon. Survived by children, Joe Frank Harmon and wife, Margie of Kingston, Faye Newcomb and husband, Floyd and James L. Harmon all of the Erie Community; grandchildren, Larry Harmon and wife, Gina of Knoxville, Glenda Davis and husband, Larry of Knoxville, Joe Harmon Jr. and wife, Kim and James Patty and wife, Vickie of the Erie Community, Patricia Murphy and husband, Joe of Harriman; 8 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; 3 sisters in law. The family will receive friends from 6-7:45 p.m. Tuesday with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Click officiating. HUMPHREY, MARGARET ALLEAN BIBLE - age 82, of Heiskell, passed away July 8, 2001 at home. She was a member of Bryams Fork Baptist Church. She is preceded death by husband, Dorsey Humphrey; sisters, Eula Anderson. Reba Bunch, Gladys Buckner, Eartis Savage, Geneva Gray; brothers, Luther, Earlis, Timmy, and Clarence Dishman. She is survived by daughter and son in law, Shirley and Clonis Farmer; son and daughter in law, Jesse and Dagmara Bible; 7 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Weaver Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Gray and Rev. Herman Faddis officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Weaver Funeral Home to proceed to Bethany Baptist cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service. Grandsons will be serving as pallbearers. HURST, JAMES EUGENE "GENE" - of Maryville, died suddenly Sunday July 8, 2001 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. He was a member of East Maryville Baptist Church. Preceded in death by father, Alvin Conley Hurst in 1985. Survivors: mother, Elsie Mae Taylor Hurst of Maryville; brother and sister in law, Glen and Sue Hurst of Knoxville; sister and brother in law, Anita and Charles Fine of Alcoa; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at the main entrance to Highland Memorial cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday for an 11 a.m. graveside and interment icon service with Rev. David Webster officiating. JONES, BERTHA - age 96 of Caryville, passed away Monday, July 9, 2001, at her home. She was a member of Central Baptist Church Caryville. Preceded in death by her husband, McKinley Jones and daughters, Wilma Jones and Thelma Lindsay. Survivors: son and daughter in law, J. Will and Reta Jones, Lenoir City, Tenn.; daughters and son in law Aubrey Hatmaker, Lake City, Jean and Burl McCulley, Lake City, Jewell Jones, Caryville and Pauline Keene, Lake City; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; brother, Bill Stepp, Dayton, Ohio; and special friend, Mary Daugherty. He was a member of West Park Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and served during the Korean War. He was retired from Dycho Chemical Co. Preceded in death by first wife, Janice Kirk Marsh; parents, Herbert and Pauline Marsh; brother, Jack Marsh; sister, Rebecca Brown. Survivors: wife, Doris Adkins Marsh; sons and daughters in law, Thomas and Diana Marsh, Kelly and Janice Marsh; daughter and son in law, Julia and Ben Harkins, all of Knoxville; stepsons, Lance Adkins of Rodondo Beach, Calif., Alan Adkins of Nashville; six grandchildren, Kristen, Brandon, Jennifer, and Brian Marsh, Lauren and Brent Harkins; step mother, Margaret Marsh, Charleston, W.Va.; sister in law, Jean Marsh of Arizona; several nieces and nephews. MURPHY, WILLIE LEE - age 68, departed this life Saturday July 7, 2001. Preceded in death by wife, Bronetta Blair Murphy; mother, Otie B. Wright and 1 sister. He leaves to mourn his passing devoted daughters, Mongele D. Reynolds and W. Jean Tory both of Knoxville; devoted nephew raised as his son, Adrian Johnson of Atlanta; sisters, Claudine Bell of Union City, Ga., and Sarah Favors Deburns of Knoxville; 5 grandchildren, Jovetta Mitchell, John Tory, Jr., Stephanie Nail, Jovonne (Otis) Littlejohn and Kenny Lenoir; 16 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews to include devoted nephew, Thomas Murphy, Janie and Roxanne Johnson, Douglas Favors, Rev. Anthony (Sybil) Cannon, many other relatives and friends to include the Blair and Elder families, Mary Allen, Beverly Ward, Oscar and the New Salem Baptist Church family. NOE, MACK THOMAS (M.T.) - age 94, of Jefferson City, passed away, Sunday, July 8, 2001 at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Jefferson City, a self employed trucker, a former Constable of Jefferson Co., and a former Chief of Police in Jefferson City. He retired from Refrigerated Transport, Norcross, Ga. where he served as Chief Guard and was a Deputy of Gwinnett County Sheriff's Dept. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Pauline Martin Noe; parents, Thenia and Frank Noe; daughter, Thenia and Betty; grandchildren, Tommy Noe, David and Roger Cox, Mack McGlamery and Judy Charles; sister, Edna Kooch; brothers, Odest and Earnest Noe. Survivors are daughters, Pat Horton, Ga., Mary Ellen McGlamery, New Market and Grace Noe, Knoxville; son and his wife, Tom and Shirley Noe of Ga., two children that he reared, Terri and her husband, Wayne Sheppard, NC and Kelly Dyer of Ga.; special granddaughter and her husband, Lisa and Charles Dockery; several other grandchildren; and great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren, Scott, Ashley and Tyler Smith, NC; devoted nieces, Mary Davis of Jefferson City; other nieces and nephews; special friends, Minnie Rosenbalm and Lydia Chandler.
