Lois Shipley Whittington, age 89, 2012 Sherwood Drive, Apt. 335, Johnson City died Monday, April 30, 2001 in the Appalachian Christian Village.
Mrs. Whittington was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and a daughter of the late George B. Shipley, Sr., and Sarah Mountie McClain Shipley.
She was a lifelong member of Boones Creek Christian Church. Mrs. Whittington was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Whittington was preceded in death by her husband, Everette H. Whittington in 1979; five brothers and five sisters. She is survived by one son, Glen Whittington, Johnson City; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Timbs, Elizabethton, Mrs. Wanda Ruth Lacey, Dayton, OH, and Mrs. Sharon Curtis, St. Charles, IL; one sister,Jessie Broudon, Johnson City, ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Tammy L. Roberts Malone
Tammy L. Roberts Malone, 41, 124 Fairlawn Dr., Johnson City, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at the Johnson City Medical Center. Ms. Malone was a native of Kingsport and had been a resident of Johnson City since 1962. She was a daughter of Clifford D. and Pauline Roberts Adams, Johnson City.
Ms. Malone was employed by Coastal Mart as a manager. She attended Happy Valley High School. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include one son, Dustin Heath Roberts, Johnson City; one daughter, Kelsi Jean Malone, Johnson City; five sisters, Linda Lovelace, Kingsport, Debbie Culbertson, Wichita, KS, Paula Wyatt, Baltimore, MD, Donna Hollifield, Johnson City, and Tina Adams, GA; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lawrence H. Eads
Lawrence H. Eads, 66, 1505 Knob Creek Rd., Johnson City, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at his residence. Mr. Eads was a native of Chuckey, TN, and has lived most of his life in Washington County, including Johnson City for the past forty-three years. He was the son of the late John Henry and Della Ball Eads.
Mr. Eads retired in 1987 from the Washington County School System where he served as a coach, teacher, principal and vocational director for thirty years.
He was a 1953 graduate of Washington College Academy, and received his B.S. and Masters degrees in Education from East Tennessee State University.
Mr. Eads was a member of University Parkway Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and Sunday school director. He was a US Army Veteran and later served in US Air Force Reserves. Mr. Eads was preceded in death by one sister, Sue Eads Williams. Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Rowland Eads; one son, Lawrence Henry Eads, Jr., Johnson City; one sister, Thelma Eads White, Johnson City; one grandson, John Henry Eads, Johnson City; one granddaughter, Megan Sue Eads, Johnson City; several nieces and nephews.

Lydia Ann Cox McFall
Chattanooga, TN- Lydia Ann Cox McFall, age 76, #6 Poplarwood Court, Johnson City died Saturday, April 21, 2001 in Parkridge Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. McFall was a Washington County native and a daughter of the late Thomas E. and Minnie Eliza Johnson Cox. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. McFall was preceded in death by her husband, William Taft McFall in 2000; two brothers, Frank Cox and William B. Cox and one sister, Mary Katherine Richardson. Survivors include two brothers, John Critten Cox and Joseph T. Cox, both of Johnson City; three sisters, Ollie Pierce and Helen Godsey, both of Johnson City and Ruby Bozeman, Chickamauga, GA; many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Rev. Stanley L. Harrison, Sr.
Rev. Stanley L. Harrison, Sr., age 80, 4105 Aztec Drive, Johnson City died Thursday, April 19, 2001 at his residence. Rev. Harrison was a native of Washington County and a son the late George Newton and Parlee Adams Harrison. Rev. Harrison was a member of Holston Conference of the United Methodist Churches since 1942. He had served in the following churches, Pine Grove, Johnson City; Pine Grove Circuit; Bulls Gap, Mt. Carmel, Lebanon, VA; Bluff City, Church Hill, Saltville, VA, Sevierville, Kingston, Stone Drive, Kingsport; and Fairhaven, Johnson City. Rev. Harrison attended Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church and served on the Administrative Board of the Church. He was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Rev. Harrison was a graduate of Boones Creek High School and East Tennessee State University. He graduated from the Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta, GA. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, York Bodies, Scottish Rite Bodies, 33rd Degree and Royal Order of Scotland. Rev. Harrison was preceded in death by one brother, Emory Harrison and three sisters, Mae Moore, Beatrice Hamilton and Margaret Bacon. Survivors include his wife, Helen Carter Harrison, of the home; two sons, Stanley L. Harrison, Jr., Gray, TN and Philip Carter Harrison, Atlanta, GA; one brother, Clyde D. James F. "Jim" Elrod
James F. "Jim" Elrod, age 78, 318 Oak Glen Circle, Johnson City died Monday, April 16, 2001 in the Johnson City Medical Center following a lengthy battle with Parkinsons disease. Mr. Elrod was a native of Damascus, Virginia, a former resident of Pulaski, VA for 15 years and had been a resident of Johnson City since 1964. He was a son of the late Austin Roosevelt and Oleano Margaret Gilpin Elrod. Mr. Elrod owned and operated AAA Sign Service, Inc. from 1965 until his retirement in 1994. Prior to moving to Johnson City, Mr. Elrod worked for Belknap Hardware of Louisville, KY where he covered the southwest Virginia territory. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Johnson City. Mr. Elrod was a WWII Army Air Corp Veteran of the 37th Photo Recon Squadron from 1943 to 1945, where he received a Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, Distinguished Badge Medal and a World War II Victory Ribbon. He was a member of the John Sevier VFW Post 2108, Johnson City.
Mr. Elrod was preceded in death by one brother, John A. Elrod. Survivors include his wife, Eva O. Smith Elrod, Johnson City; one son, Charles A. Elrod, Johnson City; three daughters, Susan Simerly, Jonesborough, Linda G. Elrod, Jonesborough and Donna E. James B. Shell Jr.
James B. Shell Jr., age 81, 905 E. Unaka Avenue, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 in the James H. Quillen Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Johnson City, Mr. Shell was a son of the late James Blaine and Mary Tindell Shell. Mr. Shell was a retired employee of the U.S. Post Office. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Shell was a member of First United Methodist Church and a former Sunday School Teacher. His wife, Anna Lea Keys Shell preceded him in death in 1994. Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth S. Jones of Johnson City and one grandson, Alfred Andrew Jones of Johnson City. Rosa Ann Gobble, age 96, Life Care Center of Elizabethton, died Tuesday, April 3, 2002 at Sycamore Hospital following a lengthy illness. A native of Washington County, Mrs. Gobble was a daughter of the late John and Renia Poore Hilton. Mrs. Gobble was a member of the Berea Freewill Baptist Church.
She was retired from Empire Furniture Company in Johnson City. Two brothers and three sisters preceded Mrs. Gobble in death. Survivors include her husband, George Gobble of Elizabethton; two daughters, Evelyn Fillers of Johnson City and Barbara Sue Calvert of Hampton; one adopted grandson, Smokie Gobble of Kingsport; three stepsons; one stepdaughter; several grandchildren and step-grandchildren. James W. "Jim" McKeehan
James W. "Jim" McKeehan, 74, 905 Pine Grove Ave., Johnson City, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness. Mr. McKeehan was Johnson City native and had been a resident of Pensacola, FL for most of his life before returning to Johnson City in 1995. He was a son of the late Walter Wilson and Sina Luving Hayes McKeehan. Mr. McKeehan was retired brick mason, having worked in Pensacola for fifty years. He was a member of Green Pine Baptist Church. Mr. McKeehan was a member of the Red Barn Band, a local bluegrass band. He was preceded in death by one son, James Walter McKeehan, Jr., one brother, Sylvestal McKeehan and one sister, Hazel Verran. Maynard Edward Clark, age 78, 2105 Carroll Creek Road, Gray died Sunday, March 31, 2002 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Washington County, Mr. Clark was a son of the late John B. and Grace Thornburg Clark. Mr. Clark was a retired truck driver with Fleming and Company. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Clark was of the Brethern faith. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ollen Clark. Dr. Morton Brown
Dr. Morton Brown, age 85, 1503 Muskhogean Drive, Johnson City died Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Deiderich, IL, Dr. Brown was a son of the late Glen and Marian Warner Brown. He was a retired Professor from the Department of History with East Tennessee State University. Dr. Brown served in the Conservation Corps during World War II. Dr. Brown was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from Washington & Lee University in 1937 and studied in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Brown then received his Masters and PHD from Harvard University. He retired from East Tennessee State University in 1981 as Professor Emeritus. Dr. Brown was a longtime member of Watauga Avenue Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Kate Brown on March 13, 2002. Survivors include one daughter, Annaleah Brown, Kansas City, MO; one brother, A.B. Brown, Bozman, Montana; several nieces and nephews. Appalachian 928-6111.

A native of Johnson City, Mr. Vanover was a son of the late Joseph and Pansy McFall Vanover. He was a former employee of the City of Johnson City. Mr. Vanover was a member of the Sunset Free Will Baptist Church. Jo Ann Buchanan Talbert
Jo Ann Buchanan Talbert , age 72, 1 Turnbridge Court East, Johnson City died Tuesday, March 26, 2002 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Talbert was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Eva McInturff Mercer. Mrs. Talbert was a 1952 graduate of East Tennessee State University where she received her B.S. Degree in Business. She was a life member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International. She retired in 1997 from the Department of Veteran Benefits where she worked as a counselor after approximately 40 years of service. Mrs. Talbert was a member of First Christian Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph W. Talbert. She is survived by one son, John Buchanan, Jonesborough; six step-children, David Talbert, California, Phillip Talbert, Colorado, Malinda Talbert, Sicily, Noel Talbert Cliett, Johnson City; Toni Talbert Joshin, Augusta, GA, Joseph R. Talbert, Raleigh, NC; six step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren; two nieces, Laura Cooper, Kodak, TN and Linda Cabaniss, Shelby, NC. Appalachian 928-6111.
Funeral Notice
Funeral Services for Jo Ann Buchanan Talbert, age 72, 1 Turnbridge Court East, Johnson City, who died Tuesday, March 26, 2002 will be held Saturday, March 30, 2002 at 11:00 AM in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Tim Wallingford, Minister officiating. Graveside committal service will follow in Monte Vista Burial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund, 200 E. Mountcastle Drive, Johnson City, TN 37601. Mrs. Talbert is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Charlynn Buchanan, Jonesborough. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel.
