The funeral service for Kenneth Lynn Whitaker, age 60, 307 Harbour View Dr., Johnson City, who died Tuesday, December 10, 2002, will be conducted Friday, December 13, 2002, at 8:00 PM from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Philip Rogers, Minister officiating. A eulogy will be delivered by Mike Kidd. Special music will be provided by Richard Storey. The graveside committal service will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM in the Monte Vista Burial Park. Those planning to attend are requested to meet at the funeral home by 9:30 AM to proceed to the cemetery. Howard Roark

The graveside funeral service for Howard Spencer Roark, 62, Anderson Health Care, 791 Old Gray Station Rd, who died Friday, November 15, 2002, will be held Monday, November 18, 2002 at 10:00 AM in Maple Lawn cemetery, Jonesborough, with Jimmy Malone officiating. Those planning to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery by the 9:50 AM. There will be no formal visitation, however, those wishing to register their presence may do so Sunday, November 17, 2002 from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Wilma Humphreys

Wilma Greer Humphreys, age 94, 701 E. Mountainview Road, Johnson City went to heaven, November 13, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse L. Humphreys, her parents, Frederick Julius Greer and Nancy Green Greer, a brother Albert, sister Dora and granddaughter Carol. Survivors include sons Frederick, John and Samuel of Johnson City, and a daughter Nancy McPeak of Bristol. Mrs. Humphreys was fortunate to have had nine grandchildren as well as nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was born February 25, 1908 in Dayton, Tennessee, where she attended Rhea County Schools, graduating from Rhea Central High School, where she played clarinet in the band. She was a student of John T. Scopes, who became the key figure in the famous evolution trial of 1925 which featured Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan. Mrs. Humphreys was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City, and a member of the Susannah Wesley Sunday School Class for many years as well as the United Methodist Women. She was active in the Home Demonstration Club, and an expert quilt maker. Other activities included doll collecting and she had many dolls from her travels, especially from the Orient and Europe. A graduate of East Tennessee State Normal School with a major in elementary education, she began her teaching career in Rhea County, and continued in Washington County, where she served as principal as well as classroom teacher. She was a recognized authority in the field of Elementary Education. Her professional memberships included the East Tennessee Education Association, the Tennessee Education Association and the Washington County Educators Association. The funeral service for Mrs. Humphreys will be conducted Sunday, November 17, 2002 at 2:00 PM in First United Methodist Church with Rev. Garland Thayer officiating. Interment icon will follow in Monte Vista Burial Park. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 16, 2002 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family at appfh@aol.com. Leo Croy

The funeral service for Connie McKinney, 40, 3208 S. Dallas Cook, officiating. Graveside committal services will be held Monday, November 18, 2002, at 11:00 A.M., in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. The funeral service for Richard D. Active pallbearers who are requested to meet at the church by 6:45 PM, Wednesday, will be Lee Harlan, Dr. Richard Duncan, Dr. Marc Aiken, Dean Owens, Mark Eades, Wilbur Henderson and Carroll Murphy. Honorary pallbearers will be active and past deacons of Central Baptist Church, volunteers of the pre-teen department, volunteers of the Nic@Nite outreach, David Atchley, Cookie McKinney, Harold and Helen Whitson, and Gerald Medlin. The graveside committal service with military honors accorded by the Kingsport V.F.W.
