Elmer Clarence Berkley, 77, of Oak Ridge died Monday morning, Jan. 5, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Berkley was retired as owner and operator of the former Home Town Rug and Upholstery Cleaners on Midway Lane.

He was born in Middlesboro, Ky., on Oct. 16, 1920, the son of George and Sally Brady Berkley. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

Mr. Berkley was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf and being with his grandchildren, the family said.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Belle Hutton Berkley; a daughter, Kathy Ann Hatcher and her husband, Teddy Hatcher, of Oak Ridge; a son, Clarence Wayne Berkley and his wife, Janice Kathleen Berkley, of Knoxville; three grandchildren, Lynne Hatcher of Morristown, Sherri Jones and her husband, Kevin, of Oliver Springs, and Cheryl Berkley of Oak Ridge and her mother, Pam Berkley of Knoxville; one great-grandchild, Austin Jones of Oliver Springs; and two step-grandchildren, Ben Maney of Knoxville and Sean Maney of Asheville, N.C.

A sister, Gladys Hudson, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Michael Johnson officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund, 320 Robertsville Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

Nancy C. Davis
Retired legal secretary

Nancy C. Davis, 59, of Melbourne, Fla., died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at her home.

Mrs. Davis retired as a legal secretary in 1992 and had lived in Melbourne since 1994. She was a member of Merritt Island Baptist Church of Merritt Island, Fla., and attended Suntree United Methodist Church of Melbourne.

She was born in Detroit, Mich., on July 25, 1938.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband, Bobby G. Davis; two daughters, Kathy Mitchell of Rockledge, Fla., and Deborah Castagno of Naperville, Ill.; a granddaughter, Michelle Oquendo of Rockledge; her mother, Helen Croft of Clinton; five sisters, Ann Croft of Clinton, Eleanor May of Edina, Minn., Mary Sautter of Sylvania, Ohio, Bonnie Jones of Louisville and Peggy Frederick of Knoxville; and a brother, Charles Croft of Dandridge.

The body was cremated.

A memorial service was held Monday morning, Jan. 5, at Suntree United Methodist Church.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Brevard Hospice, P.O. Box 560965, Rockledge, FL 32956-0965; or to the American Cancer Society, 6983 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, FL 32940.

East Coast Cremation in Rockledge handled arrangements.

Kathleen Steffey Johnson
Anderson County deputy sheriff

Kathleen Steffey Johnson, 59, of Wolf Valley Road, Clinton, died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Johnson was a deputy sheriff with the Anderson County Sheriff's Department.

She was born in Anderson County on Oct. 30, 1938, the daughter of Ballard and Ella Steffey. She was a Baptist.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by a son, Avery Johnson and his wife, Judy, of Clinton; five sisters, Claudine Trotter and Alma Smiley, both of Clinton, Ada Lamb and Norma Clabough, both of Powell, and Elsie Lamb of Lake City; a brother, Walter Coward of Powell; and by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Saturday night, Jan. 3, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Larry Davidson officiating.

A graveside service was held Sunday, Jan. 4, at McCarty Woodhaven Memorial Garden in Claxton.

Cynthia Phillips Bray
West Side Baptist member

Cynthia Phillips Bray, 85, of Lake City, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at East Tennessee Baptist Hospital in Knoxville.

Mrs. Bray was a member of West Side Baptist Church of Lake City.

Born in New River on Oct. 1, 1912, she was the daughter of Jim and Litha Phillips. She was the widow of John W. Bray.

Mrs. Bray is survived by a daughter, Kizzie Jones of Lake City; two sons, Robert C. Smith and his wife, Dollie Jean, of Lake City, and Raymond Bray and his wife, Pauline, of Knoxville; three brothers, Arkus Braden of Lake City, Richard Phillips of LaFollette and Arthur Braden of Kokomo, Ind.; and by six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Lounia Davis, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at West Side Baptist Church in Lake City with the Rev. Warner Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Circle cemetery.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is handling the arrangements.

Darla Hester
Sister of Judy Loy

Darla Hester, 60, of Soddy-Daisy, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Hester was the sister of Judy Loy of Oak Ridge.

She was retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority and had most recently worked with Great American Travel as an outside travel consultant.

Mrs. Hester was a member of Outdoor Adventures, Chattanooga Ski Club, Soddy-Daisy Ski Club and Central Baptist Church of Hixson.

She was the widow of Tom Hester.

In addition to her sister, she is survived by a son, David Marsh of Memphis; a stepdaughter, Kim Hester of Roswell, Ga.; and her mother, Virgie Kincaid of Chattanooga.

A graveside service was held Friday, Jan. 30, at the Chapel of Devotion in Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Chattanooga with the Rev. Bailey Stone officiating.

Chattanooga Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Elizabeth Terry

Elizabeth Terry, 90, of Oak Ridge, died at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is handling arrangements, which were incomplete this morning.

Vaughn Wall Reece
Retired Y-12 Plant employee

Vaughn Wall Reece, 67, of 317 Babbs Road, Lenoir City, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 11, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Reece was retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems, Inc. He had worked at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

He was the son of George William and Jennie Price Reece, both now deceased.

Mr. Reece was a member of the Sixth Avenue Church of God of Lenoir City and was very active in the Men of Action of the Church of God.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Huff Reece; two daughters, Catherine May of Sevierville and Suzanne Sullivan and her husband, Michael, of Lenoir City; and three grandchildren, Ryker Sullivan of Lenoir City and Mandy Hildreth and Taylor May, both of Sevierville.

Mr. Reece is also survived by six sisters, Eva Parrott of Big Stone Gap, Va., Anna Lee Sias of Loraine, Ohio, Cassie Rains of Columbus, Ohio, Earline Osborne of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mary Reece and Vennia Kissling, both of Jacksboro; four brothers, Hosea Reece of Jacksboro, Clarence Reece of Tucson, Ariz., and Bill Reece and James Thomas Reece, both of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Ralph Reece and Lloyd Reece, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the Sixth Avenue Church of God in Lenoir City with the Rev. A.J. Crawford and the Rev. Ernie Varner officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Kingston Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.

Norville Leon Tittsworth
Retired K-25 mechanic

Norville Leon Tittsworth, 81, of Oak Ridge, died at 3:05 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Tittsworth retired in 1979 from Union Carbide Nuclear Division as an instrument mechanic at the Oak Ridge K-25 Site.

He was born in Warren County, Va.

He was a member of Faith Masonic Lodge in Oak Ridge, and he enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Mr. Tittsworth is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Elizabeth Tittsworth; two daughters, Trevia Parks and her husband, Beryl, of Lexington, S.C., and Evelyn Richert and her husband, Frank, of Rockledge, Fla.; a son, N.E. Tittsworth of Oak Ridge; eight grandchildren, including Robert Tittsworth and his wife, Annabelle, of Knoxville; and six great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by a brother, Richard Tittsworth of McMinnville; and a sister-in-law, Lois Watson of Smithville.

Friends he considered special were Betty Hubbard and Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. Edmond, all of Oak Ridge.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, in the chapel of McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary Magdaline Wilson
Second Baptist Church member

Mary Magdaline Wilson, 92, of Clinton, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at Mariner Health Care of Norris.

Mrs. Wilson was a member of Second Baptist Church of Clinton.

In earlier years, she had worked at both Magnet Mills and Bush Brothers.

She was born in Union County on April 12, 1905, the daughter of Thurman and Martha Jane Williams. She was the widow of Clifton Webster Wilson.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by two daughters, Virginia W. Hill of Clinton and Betty Lou Weaver and her husband, Clarence, of Andersonville; a son, Thomas W. Wilson of Orlando, Fla.; and a sister, Rhoda Kitts of Maynardville.

She is also survived by four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews.

Joyce Femiano of Orlando was considered a special friend.

Two grandchildren, Donna Faye Hill and Douglas V. Hill, and a son-in-law, Vaughn Hill, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. George Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Norris Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Feb. 12, at the funeral home.

Margaret K. Frazier
Longtime Oak Ridge resident

Margaret K. Frazier, 94, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Frazier had been a resident of Oak Ridge since 1944. She was the widow of Charles A. Frazier.

She is survived by a daughter, a granddaughter, a grandson and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to a charity of the donor's choice.

The Rev. James Albert Fritts
Pastor at area churches

The Rev. James "Jim" Albert Fritts, 69, of Coalfield, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Fritts had served as pastor of several Baptist churches in the local area.

He was born in Oliver Springs on July 17, 1928, the son of John and Lillie Walls Fritts, both now deceased. He had lived in this area all his life.

Mr. Fritts had retired in 1985 from Martin Marietta Energy Systems after working for 32 years as an operator. He began his employment at the federal facilities in Oak Ridge when they were managed by Union Carbide Nuclear Division.

He is survived by his wife, Annah Mae Fritts; a daughter, Shirley Tucker and her husband, J.T., of Oak Ridge; three sons, Gary Lynn Fritts of Coalfield, James Fritts Jr. and his wife, Jackie, of Oak Ridge, and David Ray Fritts and his wife, Paulette, of Oliver Springs; and seven grandchildren, Brian Tucker, Bradley Tucker, Kristen Tucker, Kandace Tucker, Jamie Fritts, Lisa Fritts Curnutt and Stephen Fritts; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Fritts is also survived by two sisters, Otella Harvey and her husband, Raymond, of Oliver Springs, and Grace Smith and her husband, Howard, of White Pine; a brother, George Fritts and his wife, Mae, of Oliver Springs; and by several nieces and nephews.

A sister, Josephine Padavick, and two brothers, Charles Fritts and John Fritts Jr., died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Jim Carr and the Rev. Lloyd Napier officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Davis cemetery in Coalfield.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Coalfield Public Library, Coalfield, TN 37719.
