Albert J. Cox Jr.
Retired Army veteran

Albert J. Cox Jr., 74, of Lake City, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Cox was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II and the Korean War.

He was born in Anderson County on May 31, 1924, the son of Albert and Effie Duff Cox. He was a member of Longfield Baptist Church of Lake City.

Mr. Cox was also a member of Coal Creek Masonic Lodge No. 492 in Lake City.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ernestine Cox; his daughter, Connie Evans and her husband, James, of Caryville; his son, Mike Cox and his wife, Connie, of Lake City; and two brothers, Frank Cox and Ray Cummins.

Mr. Cox is also survived by six grandchildren, Valerie, Brandy, Brooke and Andrew Evans and Tiffany and Jason Cox, all of Lake City; two great-grandchildren, Haley and Samuel Cox of Lake City; two aunts, Edith Strong and Edna Kate Fowler; an uncle, Glen Duff; a cousin he considered special, Mildred Hatmaker; and by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Aug. 18, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Mitch Walker, the Rev. Willie Aikens and the Rev. Harvey Sherlin officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Oak Grove cemetery. Members of the Campbell County Honor Guard will conduct military rites with full honors.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Lorena Burdette Robinson
Mother of Oak Ridge resident

Virginia Lorena Burdette Robinson, 78, of Knoxville, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.

She was the mother of Linda R. Overly of Knoxville, a teacher with the Oak Ridge schools.

Mrs. Robinson had been a resident of Knoxville for the past 18 years, moving there from Alabama. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church of Knoxville and was previously a member of Goodwater Presbyterian Church of Goodwater, Ala.

In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Robinson is survived by her son, Ron Robinson of Birmingham, Ala.; three grandchildren, Jonathan Overly and his wife of Knoxville, Lisa Nelson and her family of Canton, Ga., and Christie Satcher and her husband of Cartersville, Ga.

She also had many friends in Alabama and Knoxville, her family said.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, in the chapel of Second Presbyterian Church, 2829 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, with the Rev. Arnold Lovell officiating.

Burial was at the family plot in Goodwater, Ala.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the National Kidney Foundation of East Tennessee, 4450 Walker Blvd., Suite 2, Knoxville, TN 37917.

Florence Eller Womac
Former Oak Ridge resident

Florence Wilma Eller Womac, 77, of Riceville, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at NHC HealthCare of Athens.

Mrs. Womac had lived in Oak Ridge and in Coker Creek before moving to Riceville where she had lived for the past 18 years.

She was born in Liberty, N.C., the daughter of James Henry and Lorena Brown Runion, who are now deceased.

She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Riceville.

Mrs. Womac is survived by her husband, Charles Willard Womac Sr.; three daughters, Sue West of Madisonville, Anna Ruth Abernathy of Coker Creek and Phyllis Null of Auburn, Ga.; two sons, Dennis Eller of Austell, Ga., and Gerald Eller of Lake Panasoffkee, Fla.; her sister, Mae Hamilton of California; and two brothers, Calvin B. Runion of Oak Ridge and Carl Runion of Ohio.

She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her first husband, Julius Lloyd Eller, and two other sons, Billy Lynn Eller and Gilbert Lloyd Eller, died earlier.

The funeral was held Sunday, Sept. 13, in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home in Athens with the Rev. Steve Teague and the Rev. Dennis Leamon officiating.

Burial was at Liberty cemetery in Liberty, N.C.

Hazel Lee Coker
Former OS Elementary cook

Hazel Lee Coker, 85, of Oliver Springs, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Coker had worked as a cook at Oliver Springs Elementary School for many years.

She was born Aug. 28, 1913, in Oliver Springs, the daughter of George William Rutherford and Mae Lethgo Rutherford. She was a lifelong resident of Oliver Springs and a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.

Mrs. Coker enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and raising flowers, the family said.

She was the widow of Lon S. Coker.

She is survived by two daughters, Hattie Lee Jackson and her husband, Willis, and Betty Phillips and her husband, Carlis, all of Oliver Springs; three sons, Boyd Coker and his wife, Carol, of Oak Ridge, and Wallace Coker and his wife, Pat, whom she considered special, and Jerry Coker and his wife, Shirley, all of Oliver Springs; and her sister, Crissie Davis of Oliver Springs.

Mrs. Coker is also survived by two stepchildren, Mary Otella Collins of Oak Ridge and Charles Coker and his wife, Margie, of Knoxville; a stepdaughter-in-law, Madge Coker of Oliver Springs; and by 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 16 step-great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.

Mark Hightower and Dr. Steve Smith of Oliver Springs were considered special friends.

Her sister, Willie Mae Carson, her stepson, James L. Coker, her grandson, Danny Jackson, and her step-grandson, Danny Coker, died earlier.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Milford Ely and the Rev. Garvan Walls officiating.

Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is handling arrangements.

Joan B. Laymance
Piney Baptist Church member

Joan B. Laymance, 63, of Oliver Springs, died Thursday afternoon, Sept. 17, 1998, at Cavett Hill National Health Care in Farragut after a 28-month battle with lung cancer.

Mrs. Laymance was a member of Piney Baptist Church in Morgan County.

She was born Jan. 26, 1935, in Oakdale, the daughter of Jake W. and Rose Grayson Basler, who are now deceased.

Mrs. Laymance was past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 211 in Oliver Springs.

She is survived by her husband, Charles F. Laymance; her son, Richard W. Laymance and his wife, Melissa, of Clinton; two sisters, Nida B. Keylon and her husband, John, of Kingston, and Sarah Foust and her husband, Ray, of Harriman; her brother, John L. Basler and his wife, Mary, of Harriman; and her half-sister, Sue Basler of Harriman.

Mrs. Laymance is also survived by her stepsister, Deonna C. Taylor of Oakdale; three stepbrothers, Everett Clinton, Bobby Ray Clinton and Billy Clinton, all of Oakdale; her sister-in-law, Wilma E. Basler of Oak Ridge; and by two grandchildren, Clarissa Laymance and Wade Laymance, both of Clinton.

In addition to her parents, another son, John K. Laymance, a sister and brother-in-law, Lois B. and Raymond Carter, and a brother, Delbert R. Basler, died earlier.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at Oak Grove cemetery in Rockwood with Chaplain Philip Groos officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Weatherford Mortuary. An Eastern Star service will be held at 8.

Helen McMahan
Briceville resident

Helen McMahan, 71, of Briceville, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. McMahan is survived by her husband, Carl McMahan; two daughters, Connie Jobe and her husband, Thomas, of the Cherry Bottom community, and Cathy Wilson and her husband, Donnie, of Briceville; two sons, Clell McMahan of Briceville and Billy McMahan and his wife, Patty, of Clinton; two sisters, Violet Williams and Irene Jones and her husband, Harvey, all of Lake City; her brother Buford Brown and his wife, Millie, of Augusta, Ga.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. David Tripplett and the Rev. Lee Cate officiating.

Burial will follow at Circle cemetery in Briceville.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Sept. 18, at the funeral home.

Terry W. Rigsby
Former Oak Ridge resident

Terry W. Rigsby, 48, of Woodville, Fla., died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, in Woodville.

Mr. Rigsby was a native of Oak Ridge and the son of Martha Rigsby of Oak Ridge.

He had lived in Woodville since 1974 and was owner of Tallahassee Motorcycle Works.

Mr. Rigsby was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sons, Charlie Rigsby, Luke Rigsby and Hank Rigsby, all of Tallahassee, Fla.; and his brother, Jimmy Rigsby of Oak Ridge.

Quin Chadwick of Woodville was his longtime companion.

The family will receive friends at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Mr. Rigsby's home, 2148 Register Road, Woodville.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.

Jeffrey Scott Morris
Harriman resident

Jeffrey Scott Morris, 28, of Harriman, died Sunday morning, Jan. 4, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Oak Ridge.

Mr. Morris was the son of Janice and George Brock of Harriman and of James and Phyllis Morris of Wartburg.

He is also survived by his grandmothers, Mary Morris Justice of Anderson County and Edna Wampler of Harriman; four sisters, Jill Brock Diggs, Cindy Branson and Sonya Ward, all of Roane County, and Marlena Ballis of Dry Ridge, Ky.; two brothers, Jay Morris of Nashville and Jody Morris of Harriman; a stepsister and stepbrother, Tonya Hamby and Terry Hamby, both of Wartburg; and by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Morris's grandfathers, William Morris and W.T. "Red" Wampler, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Jan. 6, in the chapel of Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman with the Rev. Franklin Bryant officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Roane Memorial Gardens in Rockwood.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Dorothy Louise Price
Trinity Methodist member

Dorothy Louise Price, 76, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Price was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Born in Morristown on Jan. 8, 1921, she was the daughter of J.B. and Ada Louise Honeycutt.

She was the widow of Burl R. Price, who died Feb. 7, 1995.

Mrs. Price is survived by two daughters, Debbie Lowe and her husband, Garey, of Coalfield, and Linda Wright and her husband, Bill, of Oak Ridge; two sisters, Kate Whitaker of Morristown and Maude Simmons of Birmingham, Ala.; five grandchildren, David Lowe of Coalfield, Bill Wright Jr. and Janet Hope, both of Oak Ridge, Garey E. Lowe of Petros and Jennifer Mack Lowe of Cookeville; three great-grandchildren, Jason Hope and Jack Miniard, both of Oak Ridge, and Hannah Lowe of Petros; and by several nieces and nephews.

Another sister, Martha McGinnis, died Aug. 24, 1996.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Jan. 6, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Michael Johnson and the Rev. Smith officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the mortuary.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Trinity United Methodist Church, 320 Robertsville Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830; or to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 187, Coalfield, TN 37719.
