Frances Long Sachs, 86, of Oak Ridge, died Monday morning, Dec. 22, 1997, at Lake City Health Care Center.

Mrs. Sachs is survived by four sons.

The body was donated to East Tennessee State University Medical School in Johnson City.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Norris.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Atomic City Aquatic Club, P.O. Box 4725, Oak Ridge, TN 37831, or to the YWCA of Oak Ridge Shelter for Abused Women and Their Children, 1660 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

Ronald Lynn Yates
Tennessee Cavalry major

Ronald Lynn Yates, 49, of Lantana Lane, Clinton, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville.

Mr. Yates was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was also a major with the Second Tennessee Federal Cavalry, a Civil War reenactment group.

The son of James and Genevia Yates, both now deceased, he was also a member of South Clinton Baptist Church.

Mr. Yates is survived by his wife, Margaret Steadman Yates; a daughter, Tara Ford and her husband, Dennis; a son, James Yates; and a granddaughter, Kayla Ford, all of Clinton.

He is also survived by a brother, Donald Glenn Yates of Clinton; an aunt and uncle, Clara and Ben Price of Clinton; and cousins Lee and Betty Yates of Gatlinburg.

Members of the Clinton High School chapter of Future Farmers of America were considered special friends.

The funeral will be held at 8:30 tonight, Jan. 6, at South Clinton Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Sanderson and the Rev. Greg Howard officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at McCarty Woodhaven Memorial Garden in Claxton.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the church.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the FFA Memorial Fund at Clinton High School, in care of ORNL Federal Credit Union, 190 E. Clinch Ave., Clinton, TN 37716.

Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of arrangements.

Ralph B. Cooper
Retired brick mason

Ralph B. Cooper, 85, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Cooper was a retired brick mason and worked in the construction field.

He was a former resident of Wartburg and the son of John P. and Delia Cooper. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Mr. Cooper was a member of First Assembly of God in Oak Ridge.

He is survived by his wife, Emma Wier Cooper; a daughter, Sharon Long of Bulls Gap; a son, Ralph Cooper Jr., of Oak Ridge; a sister, Jessie Shannon of Wartburg; and by five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, several sisters and brothers died earlier.

The funeral will be at 8 tonight, Jan. 12, in the chapel of Cross Funeral Home in LaFollette with the Rev. John Wiseman officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Jacksboro cemetery with full military honors conducted by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

LaVera Myers Grubb
Retired teacher, bridge player

LaVera Myers Grubb, 83, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Grubb taught in Knox County schools for 18 years, retiring in 1978. She last taught at Karns Middle School. She had also taught in Anderson County for one year.

Mrs. Grubb had been an Oak Ridge resident since 1944, and before teaching, had worked as a social worker until 1951.

She was a bridge player and a member of the American Contract Bridge League. She was a member of the Oak Ridge Retired Teachers Association and a member of Central Baptist Church.

Mrs. Grubb was an avid reader of history books and had traveled much of the world, probably to six continents, the family said. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

She was born in Fred, Texas, on Oct. 28, 1914. Her husband, Harry William Grubb, who was retired from the Y-12 Plant, died Dec. 14, 1979.

Mrs. Grubb is survived by two daughters, Deborah J. Grubb of Fayetteville, Ga., and Jessica Miller of Shalimar, Fla.; a son, Keith Grubb and his wife, Kim, of Karns; two brothers, Frank Myers and his wife, Jackie, of Houston, Texas, and Graham Myers and his wife, Runelle, of Cairo, Ga.; four grandchildren, Melanie Miller of Nashville, and Josh Grubb, Ryan Grubb and Kara Grubb, all of Karns; and by several nieces and nephews.

A son-in-law, Charles Miller, died earlier.

The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Keith Price and the Rev. Gary Smith officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Beta cemetery in Meigs County.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

Horace Clayton Housley
Lake City resident

Horace Clayton Housley, 71, of Lake City, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville.

Mr. Housley is survived by a daughter, Wanda Hughes of Clinton; a son, Billy Hayes and his wife, Ann, of Garden City, Mich.; and four brothers, William C. Housley and Frank Housley, both of Lake City, Buford Housley of Knoxville and James Housley of Briceville.

The funeral was held Saturday night, Jan. 10, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Justin Phillips officiating.

A graveside service was held Sunday, Jan. 11, at Mount Pleasant cemetery in Heiskell.

Frances Louise Kirk
First Wesleyan member

Frances Louise Kirk of Oak Ridge died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Kirk had been a resident of Oak Ridge for more than 40 years and was a member of First Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed singing in the church and reading her Bible, the family said. In earlier years, she had been a Sunday school teacher.

Before moving to Oak Ridge, she was a resident of Knoxville and was a member of Second Methodist Church.

Mrs. Kirk enjoyed oil painting and did many paintings for her friends. She also loved flowers, her birds and her dogs very much, the family said.

She was the widow of Cecil L. Kirk, who died in 1970. He was an officer with the Oak Ridge Police Department from 1954 to 1970.

Mrs. Kirk is survived by her twin sister, Eloise Smith of Oak Ridge; a niece, Barbara Wheatley, also of Oak Ridge; a grandnephew, Miki Golden Jr., of Greenville, S.C.; and a grandniece, Michele Ritter of Oak Ridge.

A graveside service will be held at noon Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

Martin-Oak Ridge Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Otsy Louise Leinart
Deep Springs Baptist member

Otsy Louise Rose Leinart, 53, of Clinton, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Leinart was a member of Deep Springs Baptist Church in Clinton.

She was born in Anderson County on June 29, 1944, the daughter of Tom and Gladys Overton Rose.

Mrs. Leinart is survived by her husband, Charles Leinart; two daughters, Karen Idles and her husband, Steve, of Clinton, and Tonya Roldan and her husband, Keith, of Briceville; two sons, Freddy Rosenbalm and his wife, Karen, and Allen Bullock and his wife, April, all of Clinton; two sisters, Dorothy Anthony and her husband, Clyde, of Heiskell, and Geraldine Widner and her husband, Hubert, of Gatlinburg; and two brothers, Rudolph Rose and his wife, Pat, of Sycamore, Ala., and Zelmar Rose of Heiskell.

She is also survived by three stepdaughters, Barbara Crowley and her husband, Rick, of Clinton, Tammy Babcock and her husband, Elwin, of Lake City, and Margaret Ann Guyton and her husband, Danny, of LaFollette; a stepson, Darrell Leinart and his wife, Lorie, of LaFollette; and by 14 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Another daughter, Elizabeth Hope Bullock, died earlier.

The funeral was held Sunday night, Jan. 11, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.

A graveside service was scheduled for 11 this morning, Jan. 12, at Sartin cemetery.

Rosel 'Rose' Thompson
Alabama resident

Rosel R. "Rose" Thompson, 92, of Ozark, Ala., died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, in Ozark after an extended illness.

Mr. Thompson is survived by a daughter, Sue Shaw and her husband, Sam, of Ozark; three sisters, Cora Brewer of Heiskell, Bertha Fowler of Lake City and Betty Hagan of Clinton; and three brothers, Walter Rucker of Heiskell, Roscoe Rucker of Brunswick, Ga., and Mac Arthur Rucker of Orlando, Fla.

The funeral was held Sunday night, Jan. 11, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. George DeLozier and the Rev. Tom Byrge officiating.

A graveside service was scheduled for 11 this morning, Jan. 12, at Oak Grove cemetery in Lake City.

Morris Phillips

Plez Abe Bailey
Former Heiskell farmer

Plez Abe Bailey, 80, formerly of Hickory Valley Road, Heiskell, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

The son of Mitch and Alice Bailey, he was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Middlesboro, Ky. He served with the U.S. Army and later made a career of farming.

A son and two daughters, Glen E. Bailey, Mary Ellen Bailey and Darlene Bailey, died earlier.

Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife, Juanita Foustine Bailey; two daughters, Judy Key of Heiskell and Peggy Davidson of Maynardville; and five sons, Larry Bailey of Andersonville, Hobart Bailey of Knoxville, Willie Bailey and Ricky Bailey, both of Heiskell, and David Bailey of Clinton.

He is also survived by a sister, Onlou Wilkerson of Knoxville; and by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Sunday, Feb. 1, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. The Rev. Richie Turner officiated. Burial was at New Loyston Memorial Gardens in Andersonville.

Lorraine W. Chambers
Retired registered nurse

Lorraine Wells Chambers, 69 of Clinton, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.

Mrs. Chambers was retired from Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center where she was a surgical coordinating supervisor. She was a graduate of Fort Sanders School of Nursing.

She was the daughter of Fannie Lee Alexander White of Knoxville and Herman Roscoe Wells, who is deceased. She was considered a devoted loving wife and mother, the family said.

Mrs. Chambers was an active member of Andersonville United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Acacia Chapter No. 362.

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Chambers is survived by her husband, James A. Chambers; two sons, Roger H. Chambers and his wife, Diane, of Hartsville, and Russell L. Chambers and his wife, Janet, of Clinton; and four grandchildren, Stephen and James Chambers of Hartsville and Allison and Daniel Chambers of Clinton.

She is also survived by four sisters, Madlyn Milani and Karen Williams, both of Knoxville, Angie Barker of Burlington, N.C., and Jane Randles of Sulfur Springs, Texas; three brothers, Jim White of Knoxville, Eddie White of Friendsville and Tom White of Johnson City; a sister-in-law, Katherine White of Knoxville; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Haynes of Knoxville; and by several nieces and nephews.

Her stepfather, A.D. White, two sisters, Albania Milani and Beth Haynes, and two brothers, Mitchell Wells and A. David White, died earlier.

The funeral was held Saturday night, Jan. 31, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Ken Abbott officiating.

A graveside service was held Sunday, Feb. 1, at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton.
