Oscar Monroe Foust
Former electrician, coal miner

Oscar Monroe Foust, 85, of Lake City, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

He was born in Campbell County on May 16, 1913, the son of Elbert and Mossie Foust, both now deceased.

Mr. Foust was retired as an electrician with U.S. Steel in Lynch, Ky. He had also worked as a coal miner with the Block Coal Co.

He was a charter member of Oak Ridge Grove Baptist Church and had served the church as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Mr. Foust was a 50-year member of Lake City-Coal Creek Masonic Lodge, F&AM.

He is survived by two daughters, Eva Mae Johnson and Martha Ann Brown, both of Lake City; a son, Leroy Foust, and his wife, Betty Jo, of Powell; two sisters, Ollie Foust of Lake City and Pearl Leeper of Knoxville; and by four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

His wife, Della Taylor Foust and a daughter, Sarah Ruth Foust, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 8:30 tonight, June 22, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Ernest Ward officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, at Oak Grove cemetery in Lake City.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

William 'Bill' Lewis
Memorial service set

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 17, for William "Bill" Lewis, 37, who died Sept. 25, 1997, at his home in Oak Ridge.

The service will be held in the Garden of Prayer section of Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

Earnest C. Taylor
Lake City resident

Earnest C. Taylor, 83, of Lake City, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Taylor is survived by a sister, Lillian Hutson of Lake City.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, July 15, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Edwin Phillips officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at Oak Grove cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Cindy Lou Connatser
ORNL Credit Union employee

Cindy Lou Connatser, 20, of Heiskell, died Friday, July 24, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge of injuries sustained earlier that morning in an automobile accident.

Mrs. Connatser was employed at ORNL Federal Credit Union in Oak Ridge.

She was the daughter of Dudley and Ann Minga of Heiskell. She was a member of Carter Road Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Connatser is survived by her husband, Greg Connatser; two sisters, Gina Nolan and her husband, Rob, of Heiskell, and Kelly Alley and her husband, Roger, of Andersonville; her grandfather, Sherman Minga of Andersonville; a niece, Ashley Alley of Andersonville; two nephews, Tanner Roach of Powell and Josh Alley of Andersonville; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bruce and Debbie Holloway of Knoxville; a sister-in-law, Michele Roach of Powell; and by many cousins.

The funeral was held Sunday, July 26, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Bill Sharp officiating.

A graveside service was to be held at 10 this morning, July 27, at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton.

Virginia 'Jenny' Sheppard
Retired Allied Signal employee

Virginia "Jenny" Lee Sheppard, 72, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, July 24, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Sheppard retired in April 1995 from the Quality Control department of Allied Signal, where she had worked since 1968.

She was born June 27, 1926, in Johnson City, the daughter of Abner Commodore and Lydia Blevins Babb.

Mrs. Sheppard enjoyed crocheting, sewing and gardening.

She is survived by her husband, James D. Sheppard; two daughters, Patti Brashears and her husband, David, of Lenoir City, and Vicki London and her husband, Bobby, of Knoxville; a sister, Katherine Phelps of Concord, N.C.; and four brothers, Harold Babb and his wife, Linda, of Charleston, S.C., Charles Babb and his wife, Gail, of Charlotte, N.C., James Babb and his wife, Marie, and David Babb and his wife, Arlene, all of Pulaski, Va.

Mrs. Sheppard is also survived by five grandchildren, David Brashears and his wife, Michelle, of Memphis, Heather Riordan and her husband, Matt, of Fort Riley, Kan., Sydnee Brashears of Lenoir City, and Sara London and Joseph London, both of Knoxville; and one great-grandchild, Elizabeth Nicole Riordan of Fort Riley.

Two other children died earlier, James D. Sheppard Jr. in 1946, and an infant son in 1948.

The funeral was held Sunday night, July 26, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Malcolm Wansley and Floyd Taylor officiating.

A graveside service was to be held at 2 this afternoon, July 27, at Monte Vista cemetery in Johnson City.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Trinity United Methodist Church, 528 Fifth St. SE, Pulaski, VA 24301.

Charlie James Marlow
New Hope Baptist member

Charlie James Marlow, 62, of Clinton, died Friday morning, May 29, 1998, at his home after a lengthy illness with cancer.

Mr. Marlow was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Lake City.

He was retired from General Motors Corp., where he had worked in the production department.

Born in Anderson County on Oct. 30, 1935, he was the son of James E. and Berdie Marlow, both now deceased.

Mr. Marlow is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marty Cannon Marlow; two daughters, Karen Oliver and her husband, Robert, of Claxton, and Darlene Agee and her husband, Dana, of Clinton; a son, Ronnie Marlow and his wife, Sandy, of Jefferson City; a grandson whom he thought of a son, Charlie Goodman of Clinton; seven other grandchildren, Crystal, Samantha and Savannah Marlow, Christina and Brittany Oliver and Nicole and Amanda Ottinger; a stepson, Gary Blackburn and his wife, Linda, of Alabama; and two step-grandchildren, Kevin and Christy Blackburn.

He is also survived by three sisters, Sue Brown of Lake City, Mae Lisenbee and her husband, Fred, of Kingston, and Cloia Burnette and her husband, Jack, of LaFollette; two brothers, Tom Marlow and his wife, Betty, of Clinton, and Clyde Marlow and his wife, Mary Sue, of Oliver Springs; three sisters-in-law, Pat Marlow and Martha Marlow, both of Lake City, and Mary Alice Marlow of Clinton; two brothers-in-law, the Rev. Warner Hawkins and Roy Hawkins, both of Lake City; and by several nieces and nephews.

A stepson, Ray Blackburn, two sisters, Gladys Marlow Hawkins and Leopal Marlow Harkins, and three brothers, Arnold Marlow, J.D. Marlow and Carl Marlow, died earlier.

The funeral was to be held at 1 this afternoon, June 1, at New Hope Baptist Church in Lake City with the Rev. Fred Johns and the Rev. George Miller officiating.

Burial was to follow at Oak Grove cemetery in Lake City, with the nephews serving as pallbearers.

Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City is handling arrangements.

Mary Poore, 61, of Clinton, died at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Anderson County Funeral Home in Clinton is handling arrangements, which were incomplete this morning.

William Leach
William Leach, 89, of Clinton, died at 12:25 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City is handling arrangements, which were incomplete this morning.

Arville Seiber
Coalfield truck driver

Arville Seiber, 65, of Coalfield, died Friday morning, May 29, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Seiber was employed with PGP Industries of Coalfield. He had been a truck driver for 30 years and had spent 16 years working as a coal miner.

He was born in Anderson County on Feb. 19, 1933, the son of Oliver and Nancy Elizabeth Byrge Seiber, both now deceased. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Seiber was an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Coalfield. He was also a member of Black Diamond Masonic Lodge No. 625, F&AM. He enjoyed gardening and beekeeping, the family said.

He is survived by his wife, Freida J. Seiber; four daughters, Linda Pride of Oliver Springs, Pamela L. Braden and her husband, Rodney, of Clinton, and Nancy JoAnn Beaver and her husband, Bill, and Julie A. Morgan and her husband, Doug, all of Oak Ridge; and two sons, Larry Arville Seiber and his wife, Becky, of Oliver Springs, and Daniel R. Daugherty of Coalfield.

Mr. Seiber is also survived by three sisters, Retha Christopher of Crossville, Eva Christopher of Petros and Opal Perkins of Kent, Ohio; and by nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A sister and two brothers, Della Bunch, Harvey Seiber and Andy Seiber, died earlier.

The funeral was held Sunday night, May 31, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Coalfield with the Rev. Mack Smith and the Rev. Billy Edmonds officiating.

A graveside service was to be held at 11 this morning, June 1, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.

Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is handling arrangements.

Leonard 'Indian' Wilburn
Pine Hill resident

Leonard "Indian" Wilburn, 64, of the Pine Hill community of Lake City, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Wilburn is survived by his wife, Frederica Bradley Wilburn; three sons, Steve Wilburn, Lynn Wilburn and Thurman Phillips; six sisters, Chris Lane, Sandra Frazier, Pauline Wilson, Paulette Shedd, Brenda Stewart and Beth Bishop; four brothers, his twin, Lounes "Slick" Wilburn, Jessie Wilburn, Jack Wilburn and Terry Wilburn; and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, June 1, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Mike Foust officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, at Pine Hill cemetery in the Beech Grove community, Lake City.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

J.P. Pyles
J.P. Pyles, 63, of Caryville, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City is handling arrangements, which were incomplete this morning.

Louie A. Brooks
Retired from OR schools

on Monday, June 22, 1998

Louie A. Brooks, 86, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at his home.

He was born in Moulton, Ala., on April 14, 1912, the son of S. Oscer and Lula Hightower Brooks.

Mr. Brooks retired from the Oak Ridge city schools in 1974.

He came to Oak Ridge in 1945 from Decatur, Ala.

He was a member of Highland View Church of Christ and of the Boilermakers Union, Lodge No. 453, in Knoxville.

Family members said he enjoyed his church, his family and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Carlon Mavis Brooks; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carlos Brooks and his wife, Evelyn Nelson Brooks, of Knoxville, and Kendell Brooks and his wife, Sheila Tilley Brooks, of Oak Ridge; two granddaughters, Carla Jean Brooks of Kailua, Hawaii, and Whitney Lea Brooks of Oak Ridge; and a grandson, Bryan B. Brooks of Los Angeles, Calif.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, June 22, 1998, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary. Martin Pyle will officiate.

Bryan B. Brooks, Hollis Holt, Bob Holt, James S. Tilley, Luther Woods, B.D. Venable and Leo Nelson are honorary pallbearers.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the mortuary.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Building Fund at Highland View Church of Christ, 138 Providence Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

Robert Ulysses Clotfelter
Retired from Union Carbide

Robert Ulysses Clotfelter, 88, Powell, died Thursday, June 18, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville.

He was born in Campbell County on Oct. 28, 1909, the son of William and Gertrude Clotfelter.

Mr. Clotfelter was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church of Knoxville.

He retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Division after 23 years as a carpenter at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant. He was a member of the Burlington Masonic Lodge, F&AM.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Warren Clotfelter; a daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Fred Gladding of Powell; two sisters, Anna Mae Clotfelter and Jewell Hagenbuch, both of Zellwood, Fla.; a brother, Roy L. Clotfelter of Van Buren, Ark.; a granddaughter, Brenda Findlay and her husband, Mikael Findlay, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and a great-granddaughter, Amanda Lee Findley of Myrtle Beach.

Other survivors include two step-daughters, Charlotte W. Hamlin and Jennie May and her husband, Don May, all of Knoxville; step-grandchildren Warren and Tammy Hamlin, Michael and Shona Hamlin, Stephen Hamlin, Tracy and Russell Amanns, Michael and Tracy May and Todd May; step-great-grandchildren Alexander, Zachary, Jordan, Devin, Shey and Crissa; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Sunday at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church in Knoxville. The Rev. Bruce Forlines and the Rev. Mike Boyd officiated.

Burial was at McCarty Woodhaven Memorial Gardens.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, 701 Merchant Road, Knoxville.

Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton handled arrangements.
