Annette Wilson Duncan, 76, of Clinton, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at Windwood Health Care Center in Clinton.

She is survived by her son, Mack Wilson, and his wife, Iva, of Briceville, two brothers, Lewis Duncan, and his wife, Alta Mae, of Delaware and Tess Duncan, and his wife, Elsie, of Briceville; and by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was to be held at 2 this afternoon, June 22, at Circle cemetery in Briceville with the Rev. Warner Hawkins officiating.

Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City was in charge of arrangements.

Selina "Sally" Gedcke Hiller
Mother of Oak Ridger

Selina "Sally" Roselle Spaetzel Gedcke Hiller, 89, died on June 10, 1998, in the Golden Years Nursing Home, Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.

Formerly of Kitchener, Ontario, Mrs. Hiller was the mother of Dale Gedcke of Oak Ridge.

She was a longtime member of Zion United Church and the church choir. She also belonged to Rockway Lawn Bowling and the Superannuated Teachers Association.

She was a teacher at Eastwood Collegiate in Kitchener for many years.

Her first husband, Lloyd Gedcke, died in 1964, and her second husband, Alvin Hiller, died in 1987. Her parents and her eight brothers and sisters also died earlier.

In addition to her son, she is survived by her daughter Carolyn Andrassy and her husband, Joe Andrassy, of Lindsay, Ontario; her daughter-in-law, Ann Gedcke of Oak Ridge; her six grandchildren, Andrew and Julie Andrassy, Stephanie Petrinac, and Jeffery, Scott and Kimberly Gedcke.

She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Albert Fiederlein of New Dundee; her daughters-in-law by her second marriage, Barb Hiller of Welland and Edna Hiller of Tavistock; her sister-in-law, Mabel Quandt of Tavistock; and six stepchildren.

The funeral was held June 15 at Zion Church, with burial at the Kitchener Woodland cemetery.

The family requests that any memorial donations be sent to the Alzheimer's Society, or to the charity of the donor's choice. Contributions can be made to the local Alzheimer's Association, Eastern Tennessee Chapter, 1924 Alcoa Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920.

Jean Inman
Retired nurse with MMC

Jean G. Inman, 65, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, June 19, 1998, at her home.

A nurse, she was retired from Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Inman was a member of First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge.

Survivors include her husband, Edwin R. Inman of Oak Ridge; two daughters, Sherry Smiddy of Yorktown, Va., and Melanie Duncan of Clinton; a son, Kurt E. Inman of Braselton, Ga.; and seven grandchildren, Amber, Tara, Jared, Ashleigh, Todd, Kaitlin and Ira.

A graveside service was to be held at 2 this afternoon, June 22, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Family and friends were to meet at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m.

McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Vernie Lee Smith Jr.
Former instrument technician

Vernie Lee Smith Jr., 57, of Lake City, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at his home.

Born in Lake City on June 22, 1940, he was the son of Claude Elizabeth and Vernie Lee Smith Sr., both now deceased.

He was a former instrument technician with Lockheed Martin Energy Systems in Oak Ridge. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Smith was a member of Covenant Life Worship Center in Lake City.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Jackson Smith, a daughter, Donna Walker, and her husband, Nick, two sons, Jason Ryan Smith and Vernie Lee Smith III, and his wife, Lisa, all of Lake City; three sisters, Margaret "Boots" Tucker and her husband, Bob, and Mildred "Mickey" Reed and her husband, Bruce, all of Lake City, and Anna Lou Ayers and her husband, Bill, of Knoxville; a brother, Tom Smith, and his wife, Pat, of Lake City; two grandchildren, Rachel Smith and Nicholas Walker, both of Lake City; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, in the chapel of Holly-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Tony McAfee and the Rev. Brian Courtney officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, at Oak Grove cemetery in Lake City.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Clarence V. Bracken
World War II veteran

Clarence V. Bracken, 73, of Knoxville, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Bracken spent more than 50 years in the auto parts business. He was a Baptist and a Mason as well as a military veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue Lusby Bracken; two sons, Bobby Stevens of Knoxville and Dan Bracken and his wife, Carrol, of Tallahassee, Fla.; a brother and a sister, Sam Bracken of Nashville and Margaret Freels of Sebring, Fla.; five grandchildren, Brandi Stevens, Jennifer and Christy Bracken and Jamin and Kim Keillor; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah Mathews and Jackson Keillor.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, June 26, in the chapel of McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Lusby and Don Hurst officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Family and friends are to meet at the cemetery at 9:45 a.m.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Howard Mark 'Hud' Poly
Former mayor of Clinton

Howard Mark "Hud" Poly, 75, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

He was a founding member of St. Therese Catholic Church of Clinton. He was a member of the choir and served on the Parish Council for the church.

A former mayor of Clinton, he served on the Clinton City Council for more than 20 years and was a civic leader for more than 30 years. Poly was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific during World War II.

He was a retired employee of Union Carbide Nuclear Division.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Wisgirda Poly; his daughter Elaine Trent and her husband, Frank Trent, of Clinton; his son Dennis and his wife, Lynn Poly, of Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren, Laura and David Trent and Marie, Ellen and Daniel Poly; two brothers, Ed Poly of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Lloyd Poly of Kissimmee, Fla.; a sister, Neva Poly of Meadville, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, Desire and Katherine Poly of Cochranton, Pa., and two sisters, Clauce Poly of Cochranton and Dorothy Abel of Clinton, all died earlier.

A funeral Mass is planned for Monday, June 29, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Clinton. with Father Dan Whitman officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form contributions to the American Heart Association, 4708 Papermill Drive, Knoxville TN 37909.

Raymond C. Rapier Jr.
Air Force veteran

Raymond C. Rapier Jr., 45, of the Dutch Valley community in Anderson County, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Rapier was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He enjoyed reading, especially the works of Mark Twain, and fishing and music, his family said.

Survivors include a son, Benjamin Ray Rapier of Knoxville; his mother, Ruth Hackworth Rapier of Dutch Valley; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Sam Knaffl of Rutledge and Debby Webster and Lamar Duncan of Powell; one brother, Larry Rapier of Oak Ridge; two nieces, Diane Foster of Jefferson City and Marine Lance Cpl. Jessica Webster of Cherry Point, N.C.; four nephews, Senior Airman Daniel Webster of Korea, Sam Knaffl IV of Jefferson City, and Brandon Duncan and Logan Duncan, both of Powell; and a grand-nephew, Jackson Foster of Jefferson City.

The funeral will be held at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Robbins cemetery in Dutch Valley.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Virgil Lee Reed
Resident of Clinton

Mr. Reed is survived by his wife, Leona Hatmaker Reed; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred and Charles Simcox of Maryville and Lola Fay and Thomas Huggins of Nashville; a sister, Marie Massengill of Lake City; a sister-in-law, Ora Russell of Lake City; and four stepchildren and six grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 27, in the chapel at Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Mac Smith and the Rev. Paul Wilson officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Oak Grove cemetery in Lake City.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Ronald Gene Simmons

Ronald Gene Simmons, 44, of Clinton, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, in Anderson, Ind.

He was born in Sparta on Aug. 31, 1953.

Mr. Simmons was a member of Gospel Outreach in Carroll Hollow. He worked at Home Crest in Clinton before becoming disabled.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Gene Simmons and Christopher James Simmons, who live with their mother, Christine Simmons, in Clinton; his mother, Blanche G. Simmons of Clinton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara Jane and Clyde Carr of Livingston and Sue and Robert Tremain of Noblesville, Ind.; and nine brothers, Charles Wayne Simmons, Harry Lee Simmons, Lawrence Edward Simmons and his wife, Carolyn, and Bobby Joe Simmons and his wife, Sarah, all of Clinton, Timothy J. Simmons and his wife, Kim, of Oak Ridge, Donald Simmons Jr. of Oklahoma City, Okla., Hollis Marcus Simmons and his wife, Alicia, of Alexandria, Ind., Floyd Allen Simmons of Anderson, Ind., and Jacky Lyne Simmons of Knoxville.

The funeral will be held at 8:30 tonight, June 26, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Layton Beets officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at Sulphur Springs cemetery in Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Louraine 'Rainey' Duncan
Lake City resident

The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 16, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 17, at Mountain View cemetery in Lake City.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

William E. Lisenbee

Mr. Lisenbee is survived by two sons, Aaron Lisenbee of Salt Lake City and Chris Via of Claxton; his mother and stepfather, Loraine and Hugo Amelio; four sisters, Verna Smith of Maryville, and Caroline Pratt, Judy Reynolds and Sarah Bennett, all of Knoxville; and six brothers, Joe Mack Lisenbee of Oak Ridge, Jimmy Lisenbee of Knoxville, Jackie Lisenbee and Anthony Leath, both of Greenville, S.C., and Robert Leath and Jeffery Leath, both of Nashville.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 17, in the chapel of Anderson County Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Ed Denham officiating.

Burial will be at Piney Grove cemetery, East Wolf Valley Road, Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at the family home, 7029 Castlewood Road, Karns.

Michael Birt of Oak Ridge died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville. Unity Mortuary, Knoxville, is handling arrangements, which were incomplete this morning.
