Barbara Jean Yovella, 52, of Andersonville, died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge of leukemia.
Mrs. Yovella was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Norris.
She had worked for Headquarters Marine Corps in Arlington, Va., and at the University of Tennessee. Her last employment was with Star Sales in Knoxville.
She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Aug. 20, 1945, the daughter of Rose Marie Light and George Kelly.
Mrs. Yovella is survived by her husband, Edward Yovella; a daughter, Carmella Yovella; a son, Edward Yovella III and his wife, Tonya, all of Andersonville; four sisters, Joan Dobson of Erie, Pa., Katherine Fober of Buffalo, Patricia Waters of North East, Pa., and Sandra Giehi; two brothers, Marvin Light of North East, and Richard Light of Ripley, N.Y. and a granddaughter, Kasey Yovella.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Norris with the Rev. Frank X. Brett officiating.
Burial will follow at McCarty Woodhaven Memory Gardens in Claxton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, July 27, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.

Rosamond Merle Downie, 90, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.
Mrs. Downie is survived by two daughters, Joan Kniseley of Oak Ridge and Jean Ann Vest of Tacoma, Wash.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Evergreen cemetery in Ontario, Ore.
Lienkaemper Funeral Chapel in Ontario, Ore., is in charge of arrangements.

Kathleen Byars Kidwell

Kathleen Byars Kidwell, 39, of Clinton, died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Kidwell had been a resident of Tennessee since 1985. Earlier she lived in Utah for 13 years and in New Hampshire for 10 years.
She was born in Topeka, Kan., on Sept. 5, 1958. She was the daughter of Robert and Dorothy Godette of Clinton.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kidwell is survived by her husband, Arnold Kidwell; a brother, William Byars and his wife, Joni, of Hot Springs, Ark.; and three stepsisters, Charlotte Humphrey, Lynne Young and Adriane Armstrong, all of Utah.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Tom Byrge officiating.
Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, July 31, at the funeral home.
William Joseph Larkin
Retired engineer, MMES director

William Joseph Larkin, 79, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Larkin was an early pioneer in nuclear activities. He was a member of the Special Engineer Detachment assigned to the Los Alamos Laboratory during World War II and assisted in the development and testing of fusing devices that were used to detonate the atom bombs over Japan during the war. He participated in the delivery of these bombs as a member of the "super secret" Project A team from LASL on the island of Tinian in the Pacific. Mr. Larkin received several honorable citations for his activities.
He was employed by the University of California at LASL after the war and participated in Operation Crossroads, the initial testing of nuclear weapons on naval targets at Bikini Atoll in 1946.
In 1949, Mr. Larkin came to Oak Ridge as assistant director of the Engineering Practice School operated by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under subcontract with Union Carbide Corp. In 1950, he joined the Atomic Energy Commission as a mechanical engineer and achieved various increased responsibilities until he transferred to AEC's Nevada Operations Office in 1969.
Mr. Larkin was responsible for occupational health and safety programs as well as the program to assure nuclear safety in testing of devices developed by LASL, Sandia Laboratories and Livermore National Laboratory. His responsibilities included operations at the Readiness Test Facilities on Johnson Atoll in the Pacific, and the test of a military weapon on Amchitka Island, Alaska, in 1971.
In 1973, he returned to Oak Ridge Operations as chief of the Capacity Expansion Branch, which had program responsibility for improvements made to increase production at all three gaseous diffusion plants. He also participated in planning for the Gas Centrifuge Enrichment Plant near Portsmouth, Ohio.
Mr. Larkin became director of the Planning, Analysis, Control and Reports Division in 1976. This group formulated the management procedures to be used in construction of the centrifuge plant. He resigned from the government in December 1978 and became a consultant.
He was a member of the advisory group to Martin Marietta in its preparation of a proposal to operate the facilities at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Y-12 Plant, Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant and Paducah (Ky.).
During his career, Mr. Larkin was active in several civic and professional organizations, including Boy Scouts of America, United Fund, Chamber of Commerce, American Nuclear Society, New York Academy of Sciences, National Society of Professional Engineers and American Society of Safety Engineers.
He is listed in the publication, "American Men and Women of Science." Mr. Larkin has a master's degree from MIT in mechanical engineering, as well as a master's degree from the University of Tennessee in industrial management. He was a professional engineer and a certified safety professional.
Mr. Larkin was born Aug. 18, 1918, in Morristown, N.J., the son of Thomas G. Larkin and Mary Harrington Larkin. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Power Larkin; a son, Lawrence D. Larkin and his wife Jane McCandless Larkin; and two grandchildren, Lisa Marie Larkin and Maureen Elizabeth Larkin.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Woods officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 tonight, July 31, at Weatherford Mortuary. A Rosary will be said at 8:30.

Naomi Carter Philpot

Naomi Carter Philpot, 85, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after six years of illness.
Mrs. Philpot retired in 1977 from the former Philpot Cleaners and Laundry where she had worked as an inspector.
She was born Nov. 26, 1912, in Jasper, Ky., one of nine children of Alexander Carter and Martha Mills Carter. The family said she became a Christian in 1934 and joined Big Brush Creek Baptist Church.
She married
Delbert Philpot, by whom she is survived, on Feb. 11, 1933. She was a graduate of Helms Beauty School of Lexington, Ky., and worked as a beautician in Barbourville and Richmond, Ky. She had also worked as a finishing supervisor of student workers at Berea College (Ky.) in the college's laundry area.
Mrs. Philpot joined First Baptist Church in 1947 and attended Joy Sunday School class as long as she was able, the family said. She was active with the church's Senior Keenagers and in the Agape Help Center.
She enjoyed gardening, homemaking, tennis and fishing until 1992 when she had a heart attack while at Watts Bar Lake and was resuscitated by a visiting niece, Andy Farrell of Nashville. She had been in poor health since that time, the family said.
In earlier days of retirement, the Philpots enjoyed many tour trips by bus, plane and church van. The family said she will never be forgotten.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Philpot is survived by a daughter, Henrietta Philpot Knapp of Oak Ridge, a teacher in Rockwood; three grandchildren, Mack D. McGuffin of Tampa, Fla., Richard A. McGuffin of Norfolk, Va., and Kathleen Davis of Sand Point, Idaho; two great-grandchildren, Richard W. McGuffin and Rachel McGuffin, both of Norfolk; two sisters, Ruth Roush of Mesa, Ariz., and Ellen Lovingood of Oak Ridge; a brother, Alex Carter of Clinton; a brother-in-law, Bryce Philpot and family of Oak Ridge; and by several nieces and nephews in Kentucky, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio and Michigan.
Another daughter, Freda Philpot McGuffin, died in 1970. Three brothers and two sisters, Charlie Carter of Clinton, Jeff Carter of Jasper, Ky., Thomas Carter of Phoenix, Ariz., Flossie Hampton of Barbourville and Mossie Downey of Sumter, S.C, also died earlier.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, 1101 Oak Ridge Turnpike, with the Rev.Larry Dipboye officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Georgia Teno Robinson, 83, of Monument, Colo., formerly of Briceville, died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Mrs. Robinson is survived by a daughter, Eugenia Ahrens and her husband Bill, of Monument; and a brother, Floyd Teno and his wife Ruth, of Briceville.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at Circle cemetery in Briceville with the Rev. Rick Teague officiating.

Madge Mealer Sharp

Made Mealer Sharp, 81, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She had been a resident of Windwood Health & Rehabilitation Center in Clinton since March.
Mrs. Sharp was a member of the Oak Ridge Woman's Club and was especially active with its book club. She was also an avid bridge player and was a member of the 49ers.
She was born in Barbourville, Ky., on Sept. 28, 1916, the daughter of William O. and Nollie Hale Mealer. She graduated in 1937 from Union College, Barbourville, with a bachelor of science degree.
In 1936, she married
Everett L. Sharp, by whom she is survived. Mr. Sharp is retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The Sharps came to Oak Ridge in 1944.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Nollie Jenne of Murfreesboro; two grandchildren, Michael Jenne and his wife, Nan, and Matthew Jenne, all of Cleveland, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Virginia Heatherly of Baton Rouge, La.; and by four nieces and one nephew.
A sister, Loretta Buis, died March 27, 1998.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Larry Dipboye officiating.
Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

Hugh Breazeale Jr., 71, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Breazeale was retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems Inc. as a chemical operator at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.
He was born in Pruden, Tenn., on Sept. 24, 1926, the son of Hugh Lester and Virginia Lillian Angel Breazeale. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Breazeale attended Robertsville Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Virginia McElyea and her husband, David, of Arizona; three sons, Ronald Breazeale and his wife, Jody, of Knoxville, James Hugh Breazeale, of Arizona and Michael Breazeale and his wife, Valerie, of Georgia; and three grandchildren, Alex McElyea and Ashley and Brendon.
Mr. Breazeale is also survived by three brothers, Earl Breazeale and his wife, Elizabeth, of Oak Ridge, Billy Breazeale and his wife, Bernice, and Joe Breazeale and his wife, Frances, all of Westel; and by several nieces and nephews.
His wife, Myrtle Ruth Breazeale, died Aug. 16, 1992.
The funeral was to be held this morning, Aug. 24, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Michael Prince officiating.
Burial was to follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
Bernice Boshears Hamrick

Bernice Boshears Hamrick, 90, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at her home after an extended illness.
Mrs. Hamrick had been a resident of Oak Ridge since 1944. She was an avid bridge player and a member of the Oak Ridge Woman's Club.
In earlier years, she worked for a short time for Union Carbide Nuclear Division and for Price Florist. Collecting clocks was also among her interests.
Mrs. Hamrick was the widow of Paschal Hamrick.
She was born and raised in Harriman, the daughter of Sylvester and Minnie Griffith Boshears. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge.
She is survived by seven grandchildren, Patricia Hamrick Rowan and Larry Hamrick, both of Knoxville, Lynn Hamrick of Marion, Iowa, Mike Lilly of Tulsa, Okla., Guy Hamrick of Oak Ridge, Tyler Lilly McAlister of Blanchard, Okla., and Kevin Lilly of St. Joseph, Mo.; 11 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Kay Mason Hamrick of Oak Ridge.
In addition to her husband, a daughter and a son, Joanne Hamrick Lilly and Thomas Paschal Hamrick, and a granddaughter, Tammy Lilly Brown, died earlier.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Mark Flinn officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
