Edna Manuel Kelly
Mother of Robin Toth

Record dated at 1:43 p.m.
on Friday, April 10, 1998

Edna Manuel Kelly, 83, of San Francisco, Calif., and a former resident of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, April 5, 1998, at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in San Francisco.

Mrs. Kelly was born in Los Angeles, Calif., the daughter of Harry and Kate Manuel. She married Andrew Robert Kelly, also a native Californian, who was a federal government employee and veteran of World War II.

She was primarily a homemaker but had also worked as a secretary for the Veterans Administration Hospital after her children were grown.

Upon retirement, the Kellys toured 47 of the 48 contiguous states in their camper. Thereafter, they came to Oak Ridge to live near their oldest daughter, Robin Toth, her husband, Kenneth Toth, and their two grandchildren, Debbie and Kenneth Toth Jr.

The Kellys were active in several Oak Ridge organizations, including the American Association of Retired Persons and the United Church, Chapel on the Hill. Mrs. Kelly enjoyed taking courses at Roane State Community College, her family said.

In 1981, a third grandchild, Jaron, was born to the Kellys' younger daughter, Kitty Epstein and her husband, Kenneth, of Oakland, Calif. Shortly after the Kellys traveled to Oakland to see their new grandchild, Mr. Kelly had a heart attack and died. He was buried in the family plot at Holy Cross cemetery in San Francisco.

Mrs. Kelly then moved to Oakland, where she was active in many volunteer and church activities. Her family said she was particularly fond of the small retirement complex, Salem Village, where she lived and enjoyed visits from her many friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her great-grandchildren are Kenny and Christina Wyatt, children of Debbie Wyatt and her husband, Sam.

On her recent trip to Kaiser Permanente Hospital, where Mrs. Kelly was to have heart valve replacement surgery, she enjoyed discussing possible names for an expected great-grandchild to be born to grandson Kenneth Toth Jr., and his wife, Danrey.

Burial was Thursday, April 9, at Holy Cross cemetery in San Francisco.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Oakland on Saturday, April 11.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Salem Lutheran Home, Charitable Care Fund, 2361 E. 29th St., Oakland, CA 94606.
