Earl Burum
Little Leaf Baptist member

Earl Burum, 58, of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after a brief illness.

Mr. Burum was a member of Little Leaf Baptist Church of Oliver Springs and had joined the church at an early age, his family said, adding that he always looked forward to the church's annual homecoming and other events.

His family described him as a helpful and community-minded person who was always willing to assist his family, friends and church in any way possible. He also loved to garden and cook.

Born June 4, 1939, he was the son of James Clifton and Grace Burum, both now deceased.

Mr. Burum is survived by two sisters, Wilma Jean Burum of Oak Ridge and Edna Knaff and her husband, Robert Sherrill Knaff, of Oliver Springs; two brothers, his twin, Carl Burum of Oak Ridge and James Robinson and his wife, Evelyn, of Chicago, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Hazel Robinson of Oliver Springs; two aunts, Myrtle Lee Burum of Clinton and Betty Jo Hawkins and her husband, Clarence, of Oak Ridge; and by 12 nieces, six nephews and several cousins and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, a brother, William "Bill" Robinson, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at Little Leaf Baptist Church with Elder Thomas W. Dews officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is handling arrangements.

Emanuel Elad
Former ORTEC physicist

Dr. Emanuel Elad, 62, a former resident of East Drive, died Friday, April 17, 1998, at his home in California.

Dr. Elad came to Oak Ridge in 1969, accepting a position as senior physicist in the Research and Development Division at ORTEC Inc., a subsidiary of EG&G. While in Oak Ridge, he earned a master of business administration degree at the University of Tennessee and became senior vice president.

He was also a member of the city tennis club while here. Dr. Elad left Oak Ridge in August 1981, remaining with EG&G ORTEC until his retirement in 1997.

Born in Poland on May 7, 1935, he survived World War II with his parents in hiding and left for Israel in 1950. He came to the United States in 1965 and earned his doctorate in nuclear electronic engineering at the University of California at Berkeley.

Dr. Elad is survived by his wife, Hanna; his daughter, Orly; and his sons, Doron and Joel.

Services were held in California.

William Ira Galyon
Retired Y-12 employee

William Ira Galyon, 72, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Galyon retired in 1988 from Martin Marietta Energy Systems. He had worked at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant for 36 years, beginning when the plant was operated by Union Carbide Nuclear Division.

He was born in Knoxville on Sept. 11, 1925, the son of William M. and Reba Galyon, both now deceased. He attended Central High School in Fountain City and served in the Navy V-12 at Carson-Newman College and the University of North Carolina in 1945.

Mr. Galyon is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mattie Galyon; three children, Rebecca Sproles and her husband, Dennis, of Andersonville, Martha Owens and her husband, Dale, of Carthage, and William David Galyon and his wife, Teresa, of Solway; four grandchildren, Sean and J.B. Owens of Carthage and Melonie and Calie Galyon of Solway; and a brother, James E. Galyon of Knoxville.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with the Rev. Laura Jean Myers-Ross officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the Children's Museum of Oak Ridge, 461 West Outer Drive, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

Gerald Webber
Gerald Webber, 52, of Andersonville, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is handling arrangements, which were incomplete this morning.

Edith Mildred Reynolds
Longtime Oak Ridge resident

Edith Mildred Reynolds, 92, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at Mariner Health of Norris.

Mrs. Reynolds had been a resident of Oak Ridge since Oct. 1, 1943.

She was born in Jellico on Feb. 5, 1906, the first child of D.B. and Alice Wright Chambers. She was a graduate of Annville Institute in Jackson County, Ky., and attended Berea College.

Mrs. Reynolds had been a member of First Baptist Church since moving to Oak Ridge and was a longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star. She also enjoyed the Home Demonstration Club.

She was the widow of William W. Reynolds.

Mrs. Reynolds is survived by a son, William W. Reynolds Jr., and his wife, Carol, of Oak Ridge; three grandchildren, Melissa Witt and her husband, Bill, William W. Reynolds III and his wife, Lee Ann, and Melanie Braden and her husband, Steve; six great-grandchildren, Ben Witt, Alisha Reynolds, William W. Reynolds IV, Nicole Bradford, Jessica Braden and Jared Braden; one great-great-grandson, Jordan Vera; a sister, Grace Leeds of Florence, Ky.; and a nephew she considered special, Robert M. Reynolds and his wife, Delia, of Wilmington, N.C.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Larry Dipboye officiating.

Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert Sanders, William Reynolds III, William Reynolds IV, Bill Witt, Tom Normand and Steve Braden.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary.

Lora Russell
Marlow resident

Lora Russell, 81, of the Marlow community, Clinton, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Russell is survived by a daughter, Bobbie Jean, of Columbus, Ga.; two sons, James of Spring Valley, Ohio, and Curtis of Clinton; and a stepdaughter, Mary Ann, of Stark, Fla.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, May 8, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Willey H. Aiken officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Marlow cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Rashane Sangamuang
Electronics technician

ashane Sangamuang, 55, of Oliver Springs, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.

Mr. Sangamuang was employed as an electronics technician at CTI of Knoxville.

He was a native of Bangkok, Thailand. He had lived in Oliver Springs for the past 21 years and was a member of Beech Park Baptist Church.

Mr. Sangamuang is survived by his wife, Jean Sangamuang; a daughter, Francis Sangamuang of Bangkok; a son, Pete Sangamuang of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his mother, Veena Papanapomchai of Sydney, Australia; and three sisters, Kumaree Smudraparabhut of Bangkok, Siriveena Sangamuang of Angola, Africa, and Darika Gillespie of Sydney, Australia.

His father, Narong Sangamuang, is deceased.

It was Mr. Sangamuang's request that no service be held.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Oliver Springs Community Ministries, First Baptist Church, 206 Roane St., Oliver Springs, TN 37840.

Warren Clifton Seymour
Retired Carbide employee

Warren Clifton Seymour, 91, of 339 Ridgeview Drive, South Clinton, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Seymour retired in 1969 after 26 years of service with Union Carbide Nuclear Division.

He was the son of George Washington and Lou Ella Pierce Seymour, both now deceased. Mr. Seymour received a bachelor of arts degree in 1934 and a master's degree in 1935, both from Mississippi College.

He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Clinton and had served the church as a deacon, as superintendent of the Sunday school, as a Sunday school teacher and as a member of various committees.

Mr. Seymour is survived by his wife, Emma Tucker Seymour; a daughter, Patricia Seymour Hess and her husband, Allen Hess; a grandson, Clifton Sluss; a sister, Lorene Gregory; a stepdaughter, Gayle Bush; and three step-grandsons, Christian Bush, Brandon Bush and Anthony Hess.

His first wife, Toy Chamblee Seymour, died earlier, as did a brother and four sisters, Woodford Seymour, Ocie Bramlett, Viola Seymour, Clara Simpson and Nellie Ray.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at First Baptist Church in Clinton with the Rev. Sam Dean officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Mae Stone
Former teacher

Mae Stone, 88, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after a brief illness.

Mrs. Stone had worked as a substitute teacher in the Oak Ridge schools.

She was born in Belleville, Ill., on May 8, 1910, the second youngest of 10 children. Although her father died when she was 13, she was able to realize her ambition to become a teacher by working her way through school.

Mrs. Stone attended Southern Illinois University and the University of Alabama. After her marriage to Hal Stone in 1930, she lived in West Frankfort, Ill., and then Carbondale, Ill.

When the family came to Oak Ridge in 1954, she continued as a substitute teacher and invested herself in her family and friends. She showed great enthusiasm for reading, bridge and current events, her family said.

Mrs. Stone is survived by two daughters, Abigail Nazareth of Bainbridge Island, Wash., and Minetta Shearer of Bethesda, Md.; two grandsons, Matthew Shearer of Washington, D.C., and Nathan Shearer of Bethesda, Md.; and a sister, Catherine Zika of Belleville, Ill.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, in the chapel of McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Friends of the Oak Ridge Public Library, 1401 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

Shirley Kiernan Watson

Shirley Kiernan Watson, 79, of Bradenton, Fla., died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton. She was a former resident of Oak Ridge and Norris.

Weatherford Mortuary is handling arrangements, which were incomplete this morning.

Charles A. Fritts Jr.
Former Carbide, Battelle employee

Charles A. Fritts Jr., 76, of Oak Ridge, died at 4:30 this morning, July 10, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after an extended illness with lung disease.

Mr. Fritts began employment in 1946 with Union Carbide Nuclear Division at the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant as a materials expediter. In 1959, he was transferred to the Purchasing Division and worked as a purchasing agent until 1970. In 1970, he moved to Paducah, Ky., to be superintendent of the Finance and Materials Division of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.

In 1973, Mr. Fritts returned to Oak Ridge to work as contracts manager of the Office of Waste Isolation for Union Carbide, a position he held until retiring in 1978.

After retiring from Union Carbide, he became contracts manager for the Office of Nuclear Waste Isolation at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Fritts took a medical retirement from Battelle in 1984 and relocated to Oak Ridge.

He was born Oct. 16, 1921, in St. Charles, Va., the son of Fannie and Charles A. Fritts Sr. of Woodway, Va.

He was a U.S. Army Signal Corps veteran and served as a master sergeant in 1941-1946 in the Pacific Theater.

On April 18, 1941, he married the former Marie Logan, by whom he is survived, in Gatliff, Ky.

Mr. Fritts was a member of United Church, Chapel on the Hill. He was also a member of the Benevolent and Fraternal Order of Elks in Oak Ridge. He was an avid sports fan, and played softball in the Union Carbide League for many years. The family said he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Fritts is survived by three daughters, Charlotte Textor and her husband, Robin, and Patricia Collins and her husband, Jeff, all of Oak Ridge, and Pamela Doss and her husband, Rob, of Columbus, Ohio; a son, David Fritts and his wife, Joie, of Oak Ridge; a sister, Carol Wright and her husband, Bob, of Woodway; and two brothers, Harold Fritts of Morristown and Larry Fritts and his wife, Patti, of Wrightstown, N.J.

He is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer Textor Michael and her husband, Lynn, and Matthew Textor and his wife, Jill, all of Augusta, Ga., Kerri Fritts Rosenberger and her husband, Jason, and Colleen Collins, all of Oak Ridge, and Charles and Patrick Doss of Columbus, Ohio.

His father, two sisters and two brothers, died earlier.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 12, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Boyd Carter officiating.

Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
