Bobbie Jean Huckeby
Roane Hosiery employee

Bobbie Jean Russell Huckeby, 67, of Harriman, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Huckeby had been employed with Roane Hosiery Mill for the past 39 years.

She was born in Roane County on April 27, 1930, the daughter of Logan and Gypsie Coker Russell, both now deceased.

She was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church of Harriman.

Mrs. Huckeby is survived by a daughter, Linda Ann Aikens and her husband, Jimmy, of Harriman; three grandchildren, Jamie Bruce Aikens and his wife, Julie, of Cookeville, Leesa Kay Lamance and her husband, Roger, and Jay Lee Aikens, all of Harriman; and a great-grandchild, Jessica Anne Aikens of Cookeville.

She is also survived by two sisters, Grace Lively of Harriman and Cecil Rogers and her husband, John Albert, of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, John T. Russell and his wife, Irene, of Kingston, and Dillard Frank Russell of Harriman; a half-sister, Carolyn Ladd of Indianapolis, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

She considered many of her co-workers at Roane Hosiery Mill to be special friends, the family said.

A grandson, Stanley Lee Aikens, a great-grandson, Michael Clark, three sisters, Mabel Cagley, Mazell Lawson and Pauline Russell, and three brothers-in-law, Everett Cagley, Jim Lawson and Arthur Lively, all died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Grant Carter officiating.

Burial will follow at Ollis cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at the funeral home.

Bedford Ivan Matthews
Father of Oak Ridge resident

Bedford Ivan Matthews, 91, of Hendersonville, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Tennessee Christian Medical Center in Madison.

Mr. Matthews' son and daughter-in-law, Connor L. and Marjorie Matthews, are Oak Ridge residents.

He was born in Giles County, the son of Bedford Leroy and Emma Pollman Matthews. Mr. Matthews had retired after 30 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service.

In addition to his local son and daughter-in-law, he is survived by his wife, Jane Harris Matthews; two other sons, John R. Matthews and his wife, Earlene, of Hermitage, and William B. Matthews and his wife, Linda, of Birmingham, Ala.; a daughter, Emma Jane Pitt and her husband, Fred, of Gallatin; a brother, Joe B. Matthews of Columbia, Tenn.; and by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, in the chapel of Cole & Garrett Funeral Home in Hendersonville with Clifford Owens and Sellars Craine officiating.

Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers are the elders and deacons of Rivergate Church of Christ. Active pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family was to receive friends from 2 to 9 p.m. today, April 27, at the funeral home.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Rivergate Church of Christ, 201 Alta Loma Road, Madison, TN 37115, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mable Kay Miles
Briceville resident

Mable Kay Miles, 87, of Briceville, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Miles is survived by two sons, Sammy W. Miles and his wife, Trula, and Buddy Miles and his wife, Doris, all of Briceville; and four sisters, Mary Wade of Briceville, Linda Parks and her husband, Bill, of Jacksboro, Lena Beach and her husband, Eugene, of Knoxville, and Faye Saldana and her husband, Frank, of Wayne, Mich.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Houston Carroll officiating.

Burial will follow at Oliver Springs cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at the funeral home.

Carolin Prager Moyer
Retired social worker

Carolin Prager Moyer, 84, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Moyer, a former resident of Tampa, Fla., had worked for the state of Florida as a social worker.

She was born in New York, N.Y., on Oct. 19, 1913, the daughter of William and Charlotte Fischer Prager.

She enjoyed square dancing and playing duplicate bridge.

Mrs. Moyer is survived by her son, M. William Moyer and his wife, Sheila, of Oak Ridge; four grandchildren, Katherine Carroll and her husband, John, of Fort Collins, Colo., Craig Moyer and his wife, Christine, of Roanoke, Va., Andrea McCurry and her husband, Mac, of Frankfort, Ky., and Susan Moyer, a senior at Oak Ridge High School; and by two great-grandchildren, Daniel Moyer of Roanoke and Amelia Carroll of Fort Collins.

A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at Evangelical Church of Grace of Knoxville, with the Rev. Chris Knight officiating.

The family will receive friends during the hour prior to the service Tuesday.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Evangelical Church of Grace, 10919 Carmichael Road, Knoxville, TN 37932.

Weatherford Mortuary is handling the arrangements.

Ezell
Lucy Ezell of Clinton, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Mariner Health of Norris.

Anderson County Funeral Home in Clinton is handling arrangements, which were incomplete this morning.

Meribah Ann O'Brien
Retired speech therapist

Meribah Ann O'Brien, 79, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, April 24, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. O'Brien had retired after more than 30 years as a speech therapist with Anderson County and the Daniel Arthur Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Salem, Mass., on Nov. 12, 1918, the daughter of Reginald and Edna O'Brien. She was a 1940 graduate of the University of Michigan and was a 60-year member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority.

Mrs. O'Brien had also worked with CONTACT Helpline and as a volunteer at Methodist Medical Center.

She is survived by her husband, James H. O'Brien; two daughters, Mebby Carter and her husband, Tom, of Plano, Texas, and Melissa Tallent and her husband, Allen, of Maryville; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Gregory and Sarah; a sister-in-law, Betty Markham of Marblehead, Mass; and a niece, Lois Markham of Klesert-Beverly, Mass.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, April 27, at McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home.

No service will be held.

Charles W. Ricker
Retired ORNL physicist

Charles W. Ricker, 73, of Kingston, died Friday, April 24, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Dr. Ricker was a physicist who had worked in the Instrumentation and Controls Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory from 1976 until he retired in 1993.

He was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of Eugene and Edna Ricker, both now deceased. He was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946, serving in World War II.

He graduated from Albion College in Albion, Mich., in 1950 with a bachelor of arts degree in physics. From there, he went on to earn a master of science degree in physics and a doctorate in nuclear science from the University of Michigan in 1965.

Mr. Ricker was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and was named to Phi Beta Kappa. He served as chairman of the Albion College Department of Physics from 1965 to 1975. During this time, he was also special assistant to the Office of Manned Space Flight of NASA, where he was involved in the development of a science education program for astronauts.

He served as director of the Oak Ridge Science Semester program for the Great Lakes Colleges Association.

He was an elder at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Kingston.

Mr. Ricker is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helene L. Ricker; his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Ricker Ford and Ronald A. Ford, and grandson John Aaron Ford, all of Clinton; his son and daughter-in-law, Eric Charles Ricker and Michaela N. Ricker, of Atlanta, Ga.; and a sister, Edna Ricker Henry of Ambler, Pa.

Another sister, Ruth Ricker Hutter, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Kingston with the Rev. Richard Hettrick officiating.

A graveside service will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the American Heart Association, Anderson County Unit, P.O. Box 6014, Oak Ridge, TN 37831, or to the American Lung Association of Tennessee, 109 Northshore Drive, Suite 301, Knoxville, TN 37919.

Alma Marie Hall Schrader
Eastern Star member

Alma Marie Hall Schrader, 82, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Schrader was a homemaker and attended Kern Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a member of Chapter 390 of the Order of Eastern Star in Oak Ridge.

She was born in Pulaski, Va., on May 12, 1915, the daughter of Joseph Wandless and Kallie Fugate Dobbins Hall.

She was the widow of Allen M. Schrader, who died Nov. 24, 1979.

Mrs. Schrader is survived by a son, H. Wayne Schrader and his wife, Melva, of Oak Ridge; two grandchildren, Lisa Marie Schrader of Norfolk, Va., and Angela Gail Pesterfield of Roane County; and two great-grandchildren, Derick and Ericka Pesterfield.

Oak Ridge residents she considered friends were Mrs. Jack "Jo" Pierce, Mr. and Mrs. William "Dev" Brannon, Alice and Fred Morrow, Mrs. Fred Edwards and Frank Thursby.

The funeral will be held at 7:30 tonight, April 27, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. James E. Gary officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the mortuary.

Meta C. Farrar
Oak Ridge artist

Meta Caldwell Farrar, 62, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Farrar was an artist in Oak Ridge for many years.

She was the daughter of Carl and Eloise Jeffries and the widow of Lendal Farrar. She was an Oak Ridge High School graduate and attended college in New Orleans, La.

Mrs. Farrar is survived by a sister, Anne Daniels of Maryville; two nieces, Elizabeth Daniels and Catherine Daniels-Smith; and a nephew, William Daniels.

Marvin Ballard Tate was considered a special friend.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 212 N. Tulane Ave.

McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Carmen Davis Goode
Former Harriman resident

Carmen Sealy Davis Goode, 93, of Fort Worth, Texas, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at the home of her son, James W. Sealy, with whom she lived.

Mrs. Goode had lived in Harriman with her daughter, Dorothy Sheffield Booth, and worked as a nurse at Harriman Hospital.

Born March 6, 1905, in Ripley, Tenn., she moved to Catherin, Ala., as a young child and attended school there.

Mrs. Goode unselfishly and graciously gave herself to anyone who was in need, her family said, adding that she always put family and others before herself without hesitation.

In addition to her son and daughter and their respective spouses, Martha Sealy and George Booth, she is survived by her husband, Alvin Goode; two stepdaughters, Joann Sealy and her husband, Bob, and Nancy Goode Howard and her husband, Kay; nine grandchildren, Jim, Warren, Kathy, Anita, Wilson, AnnaMarie, Jimmy, Bobby and Jonathan; and by 11 great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Two other children, W.C. Sealy and William Lee Sealy, are deceased.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Central Time Tuesday, May 12, in the chapel of Greenwood Funeral Home, 3100 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, Texas.

A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Central Time Tuesday at Memory Gardens of the Valley in Weatherford, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Central Time tonight, May 11, at the funeral home.
