Robert F. Bogan
Past president of Bridge Association

Robert F. Bogan of Oak Ridge died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at his home following a battle with cancer.

He was born in Ardoch, N.D., on Jan. 19, 1921, the son of Irene and George Bogan, both now deceased.

Mr. Bogan graduated from North Dakota State University with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering and also completed some post-graduate work.

He started his career at U.S. Rubber, later named Uniroyal, in Detroit, Mich. During World War II he was in research and development working on bullet-sealing aircraft tanks. A back injury prevented him from entering military service.

After the war ended, he was in research and development in the tire division. He was sent to New England to work on mileage contract bus tire testing.

He and his wife, Dorothy Lovell Bogan, who survives him, met in Hartford, Conn., and they married in 1949. In 1951 they returned to Detroit, where he was an engineer working on passenger tire construction.

Later he became the manager of passenger tire development and large off-the-road radial tire development (a new product). He retired to Northern Michigan in 1981 and six years later moved to Tennessee.

Mr. Bogan was a charter member of the Spiral Investment Club (1954), active in Toastmasters and a Boy Scout leader.

He was an avid golfer and contract bridge player, becoming a Life Master in 1990. He was also a past president of the Oak Ridge Bridge Association. He enjoyed gardening, cruising and traveling to see his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Bogan is survived by three sons, John Bogan of Portland, Ore., William Bogan and his wife, Diane Bogan, of Battle Creek, Mich., and Stephen Bogan and his wife, Linda Bogan, of Shelby, N.C.; a daughter, Jeanne Ellson and her husband, Randy Ellson, of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren, Christopher Bogan, Paul Bogan, Nicole Ellson and David Ellson; a sister, Dorothy Kippels, of Barnesville, Minn.; and a brother, Thomas Bogan and his wife, Joan, of Fargo, N.D.

In addition to his parents, another sister, Cille, died earlier.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Michael Woods officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends at their home.

A memorial service will also be held at a later date at the Grosse Pointe Congregational Church in Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.

Burial will be at the cemetery at Grosse Pointe Congregational Church.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society of Anderson County, in care of Lee Costanzo, 103 Case Lane, Oak Ridge TN 37830; to the Building Fund at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 327 Vermont Ave., Oak Ridge TN 37830; or to the Knoxville Bridge Association.

John Larry Brown
Retired material control supervisor

John Larry Brown, 80, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday night, Aug. 4, 1998, at Windwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton.

Born in Ewing, Va., on Jan. 7, 1918, he was the son of John W. and Martha E. Warf Brown, both now deceased.

Mr. Brown retired in 1986 from Martin Marietta Energy Systems as a general supervisor in material control at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.

He served with the U.S. Army Rangers during World War II and was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and two Bronze Stars.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church. Reading, hunting and playing golf were among his interests.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Jessie Fee Brown; a son, Larry Brown and his wife, Nancy Brown, of Oliver Springs; a daughter, Beverly Simons and her husband, Dr. Jon Simons, of Knoxville; a brother, Ray Brown of Cincinnati, ohio; four sisters, Edna Osborne, Bartie Daughtee and Venna Myers, all of Cincinnati, and Jan Rose Logsdon of Shelbyville, Ky.; and five grandchildren, Kimberly Simons Adamson of Greensboro, N.C., Gina Simons Brown of Franklin, Tenn., Karen Simons Wood of Knoxville, David Brown of Nashville and Kevin Brown of Oliver Springs; and nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A sister, Mary Ruth Uhl, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. David McPherson officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

Jon Simons, Chuck Brown, Bret Adamson, Tyler Adamson, David Brown and Kevin Brown will be pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to Central Baptist Church, 130 Providence Road, Oak Ridge TN 37830.

John David Paul
Farmers Grove Baptist member

John David Paul, 57, of Cedar Circle in the Claxton community, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at NHC Health Care Center at Farragut West.

Mr. Paul worked as a truck driver for East Tennessee Xpress in Morristown. He was a member of Farmers Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Johnson Paul; two daughters, Jennifer Paul Posey and Nancy Paul, both of Clinton; and two grandchildren, Joshua Paul and Elijah Paul.

He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Dorothy Johnson of Claxton; three sisters, Neva Hair and Edith McDonald and her husband, Eugene McDonald, all of Oak Ridge, and Wilma Fox and her husband, Henry Fox, of Chattanooga; a brother, Jim Paul and his wife, Barbara Paul, of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, Pattie and John S. Paul, and a sister, Sandra North, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Moss Beets officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, in the cemetery at Farmers Grove Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Bobby Dean Reed
Retired from Y-12 Plant

Bobby Dean Reed, 66, of Clinton, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Reed was retired from the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joan M. Reed; two sons, Joel Reed of Ohio, Jeffrey Reed and his wife, Angie Reed, of Crossville; a daughter, Terry Walker and her husband, David Walker, of Columbia, S.C.; and grandchildren Joseph and Janay Reed of Oak Ridge, Johnathan and Sarah Walker of Columbia, S.C., and Benjamin Reed of Crossville.

He is also survived by his brother, Frank Reed of Knoxville; three sisters, Louise Solomon of Knoxville, Sue Phelps and her husband, Earl Phelps, of Dandridge, and Linda Grace Taylor of Jackson, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Seivers of Clinton; and three brothers-in-law, Jerry May and Bobby R. May of Clinton and Larry May of Sunbright; and several nieces and nephews.

His mother, Grace Corder Taylor, his father, Frank Reed, and a brother, Lee F. Reed, all died earlier.

The body is to be cremated.

A memorial service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Mack Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Building Fund at Central Baptist Church, 130 Providence Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830; Tennessee Right to Life, 5710 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919; or Covenant Hospice Home Care, 183 Lafayette Drive, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

Nora Lee Kellar
Calvary Baptist member

Nora Lee Kellar, 86, of Oliver Springs, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at the Life Care Center of Cleveland.

Mrs. Kellar was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Oak Ridge.

She was born in Polk County on March 1, 1911, the daughter of Harvey and Lou Shields Walker.

She was the widow of Lake M. Kellar.

Mrs. Kellar is survived by three daughters, Sue Woodburn of Cleveland, Beverly Jones of Houston, Texas, and Barbara Tabbert of Dallas, Texas; a son, Beecher Kellar of Oliver Springs; and by 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Joe Bridges officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Lilyan Cohen
Mother of Oak Ridge resident

Lilyan Cohen, 84, of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, in Malta.

Mrs. Cohen was the mother of Arlene Katzman of Oak Ridge.

She had lived in Royal Palm Beach for 23 years, relocating from Teaneck, N.J., where she had been an active supporter of the Teaneck Jewish Community Center, the Sisterhood and Hadassah. After moving to Florida, she was a loyal member of Temple Beth Zion of Royal Palm Beach.

Mrs. Cohen was a homemaker. Her family described her as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and great-aunt to the many people who loved her. She was an avid bridge player and especially enjoyed traveling.

She was the widow of Godfrey Cohen, who died three years ago.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her son, Dr. Arnold Cohen of New York City; her sister, Miriam Bartlett of Royal Palm Beach; her brother, Albert Levine of Whitestone, N.Y.; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens in Florida. The family will receive friends at Mrs. Cohen's home in Royal Palm Beach.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Temple Beth Zion, Royal Palm Beach Blvd., Royal Palm Beach, FL 33411; to Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, 102 Dansworth Lane, Oak Ridge, TN 37830; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Ola Mae Garrison
Worked with March of Dimes

Ola Mae Garrison, 73, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 26, 1998, at her home of cancer.

Mrs. Garrison had been a resident of Oak Ridge for 47 years. She was a longtime active member of the Manhattan Women's Club and was a worker and supporter of several charities, especially the March of Dimes.

She was born in Lexington, Tenn., on June 9, 1925, the daughter of Georgia and Hubert Lee Goff. Her mother lives in Lexington, Tenn., and her father is deceased.

She was described by her family as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Garrison is survived by her husband of 52 years, Howard Garrison; her daughter, Charlotte England, of Oak Ridge; two grandchildren, Lisa England and Spencer England, both of Oak Ridge; a great-granddaughter, Brittany England, also of Oak Ridge; and by her two sisters, Nell Fullington and Hazel McPeake, both of Lexington.

The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, in the chapel of McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Gray officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at McCarty-Woodhaven Memory Gardens in Claxton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society, Anderson County Unit, in care of Lee Costanzo, 103 Case Lane, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

Beulah Hagaman Graham
Former South Clinton resident

Beulah E. Hagaman Graham, 96, of Titusville, Fla., died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, at the Titusville Rehabilitation/Nursing Center.

Mrs. Graham formerly lived in South Clinton and was a member of Bethel Methodist Church of Powell.

Born in Johnson City on April 27, 1902, she was the daughter of John and Jo Ann Hagaman.

Her first husband, Logan Cox, and her second husband, John Graham, are deceased.

Mrs. Graham is survived by her son, Billie Cox, and his wife, Lou, of Fayetteville, Ga.; her brother, Jo Preston Hagaman of Georgia; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Barbara Ruth Cox, and two other sons, Henry E. Cox and John P. Cox, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.

Burial will follow at Bethel Methodist Church cemetery in Powell.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Aug. 27, at the funeral home.
