Clyde Wilford Buhl
Father of local residents

Clyde Wilford Buhl, 76, of Strawberry Plains, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at Hillcrest North Health Care Center in Knoxville.

Mr. Buhl was self-employed as a farmer.

He was born Jan. 18, 1922, in Spring Hill, Tenn., the son of John and Ella Blazier Buhl. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, achieving the rank of private first class.

Mr. Buhl is survived by two daughters, Wanda Evans and her husband, Harry, of Oak Ridge, and Louise Burdette and her husband, Ricky, of Mount Airy, Md.; and seven sons, Wilford Buhl and his wife, Betty, of Powell, Sam Buhl and his wife, Judy, and Marvin Buhl and his wife, Libby, all of Knoxville, Frank Buhl and his wife, Patricia, of Strawberry Plains, Johnnie Buhl and his wife, Cindy, of Clinton, and Don Buhl and his wife, Becky, and Wilburn Buhl, all of Westminster, Md.

He is also survived by two sisters, Audrey Stooksbury of Andersonville and Mary Bean of Franklin; a brother, Bill Buhl of Morrow, Ga.; and by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Harbin of Knoxville is the mother of his children.

Three sisters and three brothers, Lillian Babb, Artie Stooksbury, Bertha Abbott, Gleason Buhl, Elmer Buhl and Otis Buhl, died earlier.

The funeral was held Sunday, July 12, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. David Cardwell officiating.

Burial followed at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton.

Hester 'Dave' Davidson
Retired ORNL plant manager

Hester "Dave" Davidson, 86, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Davidson was retired from the Equipment Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He was a plant manager at ORNL when the plant was operated by Union Carbide Nuclear Division.

He was born in Carroll County on Dec. 14, 1911, the son of Andrew Jackson Davidson and Vettie Allan Davidson.

He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Mr. Davidson is survived by a son, David Allan Davidson of Oak Ridge; a sister, Pearl Davidson Morehead of Tiptonville; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

His wife, Ruth Vaughn Davidson, died Oct. 11, 1988, and a son, Gerald Wayne Davidson, died in 1964.

The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Larry Dipboye officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to a charity of the donor's choice.

Ann Burton Halcomb
Island Ford Baptist member

Ann Burton Halcomb, 59, of Lake City, died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville.

Mrs. Halcomb was a member of Island Ford Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.

Born Dec. 21, 1938, in Lake City, she was the daughter of Roscoe and Mossie Lee Burton, who are now deceased.

Mrs. Halcomb is survived by her husband, Bill Halcomb; two sons, Robert Halcomb and his wife, Pat, and Randy Halcomb, all of Lake City; five sisters, Charlene Langston of Clinton, Wanda Cox and her husband, Frank, of LaFollette, Sue Foust and her husband, Lawrence, of Lake City, Janie Shephard of Smyrna and Kay Webb and her husband, Sam, of Oliver Springs; and two brothers, Johnny Burton and his wife, Wanda, of Lake City, and Benny Burton of Nashville.

She is also survived by a son-in-law, Thomas Trame of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Regina Trame, Mandi Trame, Will Halcomb, Josh Halcomb and Nick Halcomb; a great-granddaughter, Jennifer Hubbard; and several nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Veronica Trame, a grandson, Michael T. Halcomb, two sisters, Marie Carden and Elizabeth Sharp, and a brother, Jimmy Burton, died earlier.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton. The Rev. Charles Harness will officiate and the nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight, July 13, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City.

Gracie Hamock Hutchinson
Piney Grove Baptist member

Gracie Blanch Hamock Hutchinson, 91, of Heiskell, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville.

Mrs. Hutchinson was the longest-living member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Heiskell, according to her family.

She was born in Anderson County on Jan. 2, 1907, the daughter of George and Jane Williams Fraker.

Mrs. Hutchinson is survived by four daughters, Gladys Ridenour and her husband, J.D., of Heiskell, Leona Collins of Powell, and Elouise Phillips and Juanita Rose, both of Lake City; and five sons, Doug Hamock and his wife, Bernice, of Seymour, Roy Hamock and his wife, Bernice, James Hamock and his wife, Judy, and Donnie Hamock and his wife, Kay, all of Heiskell, and Raymond Hamock and his wife, Betty, of Knoxville.

She is also survived by a sister, Georgia Rosenbalm of Clinton; a brother, Elijah Fraker of Powell; and by 35 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her husbands, Andrew Hamock and Wayne Hutchinson, died earlier, as did a brother, David Fraker, and a son, Willis Hamock.

The funeral was to be held at 2 this afternoon, July 13, at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Heiskell, with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Pallbearers were to be grandsons Ronnie Ridenour, Mike Hamock, Jimmy Hamock, Keith Hamock, Randy Hamock and Donnie Hamock.

Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton handled arrangements.

Andrew Gene Wilde
Retired K-25 operator

Andrew Gene Wilde, 80, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Wilde retired June 3, 1983, from Union Carbide Nuclear Division as an operator at the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant Power House.

He was born in Newport on May 5, 1918, the son of Ernest and Swanie Brooks Wilde. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Wilde was a member of Central Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alma O'Dell Wilde; two daughters, Diane L. Wilde of Nashville and Robin Wilde Spencer of Oak Ridge; two sons, Jerry Wilde of Newport and Stephen Wilde and his wife, Jane Moore, of Knoxville; two sisters, Fern W. Strange of Morristown and Faye W. Ratcliff of Newport; and two brothers, Stanley Wilde and Wendell Wilde, both of Newport.

Mr. Wilde is also survived by seven grandchildren, Nathan Wilde, Matthew Wilde and Kristi Wilde, all of Newport, Johnnie Lee Wilde and Kenneth Wilde, both of Knoxville, Melissa Spencer, a student at Tennessee Technological University, and Natalie Spencer of Oak Ridge; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A son-in-law, Lee Spencer, died Jan. 16, 1998.

The funeral was held Sunday, Aug. 9, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. David McPherson officiating.

Burial followed at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Members of Mr. Wilde's Sunday school class were pallbearers.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the Building Fund at Central Baptist Church, 130 Providence Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

Weatherford Mortuary handled arrangements.

Nellie Wilson Elliott
Liberty Baptist member

Nellie Wilson Elliott, 76, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Elliott was a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Clinton.

She was born in Anderson County on June 9, 1922, the daughter of Joe and Eliza Wilson, both now deceased.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Troy Elliott; two daughters, Juanita Harness and her husband, Leonard, and Evelyn Mincey and her husband, Roger, all of Cleveland, Tenn.; and three sons, Mackie Elliott and his wife, Geraldine, of Etowah, Ferland Elliott and his wife, Della, of Kingston, and Stephen Elliott and his wife, Lisa, of Clinton.

Mrs. Elliott is also survived by two brothers, Willis Wilson of Andersonville and John L. Wilson of Kingston; and by 15 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A son, David Lee Elliott, a granddaughter, Pamela Elliott, two sisters, Virgie Ford and Dorothy Wilson, and a brother, Carson Henley Wilson, all died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 8:30 tonight, Aug. 14, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Kenneth Seeber and the Rev. David R. Hill officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

David Johnson
Mill plant manager

David Johnson, 51, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville.

Mr. Johnson was the plant manager for Glenoit Mills Inc. in Jacksboro.

He was born in Lowell, Mass., on April 8, 1947. He was a Methodist.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Linda Jilek Johnson; his son, Eric Johnson of Clinton; his father, Alfred Johnson Jr. of Sarasota, Fla.; five brothers, Kenneth Johnson of Sarasota, Douglas Johnson of Brevard, N.C., Norman Cleghorn of Seffner, Fla., Steven Cleghorn of Brandon, Fla., and Robert Cleghorn of Cape Cod, Mass.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Evelyn and Richard Jilek of Helenville, Wis.; and by several nieces and nephews.

His mother, Elizabeth Johnson, died earlier.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.

No service will be held.

Debra Ann Nelson
Lake City resident

Debra Ann Nelson, 42, of Lake City, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at LaFollette Medical Center.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by her husband, Donald Nelson; two sons, Anthony Nelson and Christopher Nelson, both of Lake City; a stepson, Matthew Elliott of Lake City; two sisters, Janine Burris and her husband, Lee, of Lake City, and Sara Seybert Turner and her husband, Larry, of Clinton; and a brother, Glen Lee Meigs and his wife, Martha, of Knoxville.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Wayne Province officiating.

Burial will follow at Leach cemetery in Lake City.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Wallace F. Norman
Norris resident

Wallace F. Norman, 76, of Norris, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Norman is survived by his wife, Lillian Conner Norman; two sisters, Norma Jean Pitsenbarger of Knoxville and Mary Ann Norman of Elizabethtown, Ky.; and a brother, Morris L. Norman and his wife, Wilma, of Birmingham, Ala.

The funeral was held Thursday night, Aug. 13, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Harrell Cobb officiating.

A graveside service was to be held this morning, Aug. 14, at Leach cemetery in Lake City.

John Joseph Smith
St. Mary's Church member

John Joseph Smith, 74, of Oak Ridge, died at 12:45 this morning, Aug. 14, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Smith had been a resident of Oak Ridge since 1989. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and took communion every day.

Mr. Smith was retired from Western Electric in Kearney, N.J. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Born in Hackensack, N.J., on Jan. 3, 1924, he was the son of Edward Joseph and Margaret Gardy Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Tillie Noe Smith; three daughters, Elizabeth Luann Smith of Oak Ridge, Mary Beatrice Smith of Hackensack and Margaret Ann Hollandsworth and her husband, Robert, of Sumter, S.C.; and two sons, John Joseph Smith Jr. of San Jose, Calif., and Edward Harvey Smith and his wife, Estella, of Grapevine, Texas.

Mr. Smith is also survived by two sisters, Mary A. Ripple of New Canaan, Conn., and M. Rita Van Laere of Glen Rock, N.J.; a brother, the Rev. Daniel F. Smith, O. Carm., of Paramus, N.J.; three grandchildren, Harvey A. Smith of Grapevine and Robert M. Hollandsworth III and John C. Hollandsworth, both of Sumter; and by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Two sisters and two brothers died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Woods officiating.

Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at Weatherford Mortuary. A Rosary service will follow at 8:30.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to St. Mary's Catholic Church or St. Mary's School, 327 Vermont Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
