Frances Huffman Gragg
Longtime Oak Ridge resident

Frances Huffman Gragg of Oak Ridge died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, in Oak Ridge after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Gragg was a longtime resident of Oak Ridge. She was a former credit manager and bookkeeper.

She was the daughter of Lyndon Earl and Maggie Miller Huffman, both now deceased.

Mrs. Gragg is survived by three daughters, Paula Gragg of Knoxville, Marla Gragg of Carrollton, Texas, and Norma Lavalley and her husband, Paul, of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Kelsey Gragg and Gregory and Colin Lavalley; two brothers, Horace B. Huffman and William F. Huffman, both of Memphis; two sisters, Marie Needham of Knoxville and Jane Murray of Albemarle, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

No service will be held.

The family requests that any memorials be made in the form of donations to Covenant Home Care and Hospice, 183 Lafayette Drive, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

Samuel J. 'Sam' Selleh
Former longtime Oak Ridger

Samuel J. "Sam" Selleh, 86, of Brentwood, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, in Nashville.

Mr. Selleh was a former resident of Oak Ridge. He came here in 1943 and had been a resident of Brentwood since June 1996.

He was retired from Rust Engineering in Oak Ridge.

While living here, he was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and active with the United Methodist Men's Club. He was a member of the Oak Ridge Lions Club, a member of Faith Masonic Lodge, from which he had received a 50-year pin, and had been a Boy Scout leader for 20 years.

Mr. Selleh was a track official for the University of Tennessee for more than 25 years and in 1980 received the Paul Cox Award from the Knoxville Track Club. He was also an avid tennis player and had played for 30 years.

He was born in Elgin, Texas, on Aug. 29, 1911, the son of Margaret and Richard John Selleh.

His wife, Edna Long Selleh, died earlier.

Mr. Selleh is survived by two sons, James Selleh of Brentwood and John Selleh and his wife, Pam, of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandsons, Nick and Travis Selleh of Brentwood; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at Trinity United Methodist Church. A reception at the church will follow.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the Memorial Fund at Trinity United Methodist Church, 320 Robertsville Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830; the Oak Ridge Lions Club, in care of Richard Schulman, P.O. Box 4085, Oak Ridge, TN 37831; the Knoxville Track Club, 3530 Tahiti Drive, Knoxville, TN 37919; the Holston Children's Home, P.O. Austin John Tuohy
Retired electrician

Austin John Tuohy, 77, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Tuohy was retired from the Ethyl Corp., in Ferndale, Mich., where he had worked for many years as an electrician. He had been a resident of Oak Ridge since 1991.

He was born in Detroit, Mich., on Jan. 2, 1920, the son of Austin and Marie Shotski Tuohy, both now deceased.

Mr. Tuohy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Tuohy; a daughter, Shirley Jankalski and her husband, Jerry, of Milford, Mich.; a son, James J. Jernigan and his wife, Mary, of Oak Ridge; a sister, Virginia Coyro of Santa Cruz, Calif; a brother, Jerry Tuohy and his wife, Rita, of Northfield, Mich.; and by eight grandchildren and several foster grandchildren and foster great-grandchildren.

Mr. Tuohy and his wife had cared for 41 foster children.

The funeral will be held at 7 tonight, Jan. 2, 1998, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Woods officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at the church.

Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of arrangements.

Isaac Elmore Cody
Retired DOE security inspector

Isaac Elmore Cody, 83, of 101 Potomac Circle, died at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Cody was retired from the Department of Energy. He began his employment in 1947 with the security force at the Atomic Energy Commission, a DOE predecessor agency. He worked at various times as a security inspector, courier and firearms instructor and was a lieutenant in the AEC Patrol. He retired after 31 years with the agency.

For many years, he also competed in pistol competitions in the area and as a representative of the AEC Patrol Team.

He was born in Dandridge on April 21, 1914, the son of Cephas L. and Martha Moree Cody. He served for seven years in the U.S. Navy, for four of those years aboard the USS Iowa during World War II.

He and his wife, Margaret, came to Oak Ridge in 1947. She died in July 1997.

Mr. Cody was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was very involved in the church's maintenance, his family said. He was also a member of Faith Masonic Lodge No. 756 in Oak Ridge.

An avid vegetable gardener, Mr. Cody raised a variety of vegetables and gave away much of his produce to friends and neighbors, according to his family, who said his gardening ability also extended to raising a large variety of flowers.

Mr. Cody is survived by a son, Robert L. Cody and his wife, Brenda, of Centerville, Ohio; two brothers, Buford Cody and James Cody, both of North Carolina; two grandchildren, Sheri Cody of Atlanta, Ga., and Jeffrey Cody and his wife, Nicole, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, at Grace Lutheran Church, 131 W. Gettysburg Ave., with the Rev. Stephen P. Damos officiating.

Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Weatherford Mortuary.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society, Anderson County Unit, in care of Lee Costanzo, 103 Case Lane, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

Charles Alfred Currier Sr.
Father of area residents

Charles Alfred Currier Sr., 79, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Currier was born in Dossett, Tenn., on May 26, 1918, the son of Essie Miller and George Washington Currier. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was retired from J.L. Hudson Co. in Detroit, Mich. He was a Baptist. Mr. Currier's wife, Lillian Bernice Thomas Currier, died Nov. 3, 1995.

He is survived by a daughter, Wanda Marth and her husband, Tom, of Oak Ridge; three sons, Charles A. Currier Jr. and his wife, Donna, Edward Currier and his wife, Lynn, all of Clinton, and Bob Currier and his wife, Pam, of Oak Ridge; two sisters, Ruth Jones and Ruby Hampton, both of Clinton; two brothers, Earl Currier and Robert Currier and his wife, Dottie, all of Clinton; and by 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Feb. 13, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Ray Buchanan officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the mortuary.

James C. Hendrickson
Friendship Baptist member

James C. Hendrickson, 46, of Coles Road, Rockwood, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville after a long illness. He had been disabled for many years.

Mr. Hendrickson was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Westel.

He was also a member of the Tri-County Sportsman's Club in Oliver Springs.

Mr. Hendrickson is survived by his wife, Kenya E. Hendrickson; a son, Adam Hendrickson and his wife, Renee, of Rockwood; his mother, Hannah Hendrickson of Oliver Springs; and a grandson, David Hendrickson.

He is also survived by three sisters, Susie Borum, Lavana Lambert and her husband, John, and Nancy Kerby and her husband, Bobby, all of Oliver Springs; four brothers, Franklin Hendrickson, Glen Hendrickson and his wife, Cindy, and Mark Hendrickson and his wife, Judy, all of Oliver Springs, and Michael Hendrickson and his wife, Pam, of Cumberland, Ga.; and by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

His father, Frank Hendrickson, is deceased.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Feb. 13, at Friendship Baptist Church in Westel with the Rev. Ben Ward officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Roane Memorial Gardens in Rockwood.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the church.

Evans Mortuary in Rockwood is handling arrangements.

Edward Wayne Green
Owner of OR Fabricators

Edward Wayne Green, 48, of Oliver Springs, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Roane Medical Center in Harriman.

Mr. Green had been the owner and operator of Oak Ridge Fabricators since it was established in 1990.

He lived in Elyria, Ohio, for 14 years and was a 1969 graduate of Elyria High School, where he played on the varsity football team.

Mr. Green was an avid supporter of Oliver Springs High School. He was a member of Frost Bottom Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Robbins Green; three sons, Matthew Wayne Green, Jonathan Lee Green and Edward Scot Green and his wife, Lisa, all of Oliver Springs; his father, Rollie Green of Oliver Springs; and a sister, Karen Collins and her husband, Bill, also of Oliver Springs.

Mr. Green is also survived by his grandfather Charles M. Brown of Wartburg; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Verda Robbins of Oliver Springs; a sister-in-law, Brenda Raymond and her husband, Jot, of Harriman; an uncle, Bruce Green and his wife, Rose, of Kingston; and two nieces and four nephews.

Among the many friends he considered special were Jollie B. Holcombe Jr. of Solway and Eddie King and Tim Robbins, both of Oliver Springs.

His mother, Ruth Brown Green, and his maternal grandmother, Nora L. Brown, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, April 14, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Garvan Walls officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Leonard L. Smith
Former Tennessee resident

Leonard L. Smith, 74, of Ravenna, Ohio, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at his home.

A native of Tennessee, he was the son of Daniel and Mary L. Hainey Smith, both now deceased.

Mr. Smith had lived in Ravenna for the past 41 years. He was a retired automaker and had worked for Ford Motor Co. at the Walton Hills Plant in Ohio.

Mr. Smith was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Moose Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Wilson Smith; three daughters, Patricia Stonestreet and her husband, Dave, Judy Jones and her husband, Gary, and Debbie Burton and her husband, Larry, all of Ravenna; and two sons, Michael Smith and his wife, Denise, of Ravenna, and Jerry Smith and his wife, Sheila, of Washington.

Mr. Smith is also survived by a sister, Virginia Davidson of Bristol; two brothers, Alvin D. Smith of Ravenna and Raymond Smith of Bristol; and by 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 6 tonight, April 14, in the chapel of Shorts Funeral Home in Ravenna.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 today at the funeral home in Ohio.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.

Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is handling local arrangements.

Jeremy Douglas Massengale
Oliver Springs High graduate

Jeremy Douglas Massengale, 21, of Oliver Springs, died Thursday, April 16, 1998, in Murfreesboro.

Mr. Massengale was a 1995 honors graduate of Oliver Springs High School. He was attending Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.

He was born in Knoxville on Feb. 9, 1977, the son of Douglas and Phyllis Massengale of Oliver Springs. He had been an Oliver Springs resident all his life and was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Oliver Springs.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Massengale is survived by a brother, Brad Massengale of Oliver Springs; and his grandparents Nora Griffith of Oliver Springs and Charles Massengale of Coalfield.

His other grandparents, Ardill Griffith and Sammie Ruth West, died earlier.

The funeral was held Sunday, April 19, at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. Garvan Walls and the Rev. Keith Price officiating.

Burial was at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.

Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs handled arrangements.
