Lillian Irene Freels
Spring Street Baptist member

Lillian Irene Hensley Freels, 80, of Powell, died Friday, April 24, 1998, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.

Mrs. Freels was a member of Spring Street Baptist Church in Powell.

She was born in Anderson County on July 6, 1917, the daughter of Rufus and Roxie Hensley, both now deceased.

She was the widow of Herbert J. Freels.

Mrs. Freels is survived by a daughter, Brenda Whitsell and her husband, David, of Heiskell; five sons, Roy Freels, Danny Freels and Mickey Freels, all of Powell, Larry Freels and his wife, Betty, of Andersonville, and Glen Freels and his wife, Virginia, of Woodstock, Ga.; and two brothers, Glen Hensley and his wife, Gladys, of Norris, and Vaughn Hensley and his wife, Linda, of Knoxville.

She is also survived by eight granddaughters, Debra, Cindy, Donna, Sherry, Glenda, Roki, Koti and Choyia; nine great-grandchildren, Eric, Michael, Paul, Sherri, Cheyenne, Savanna, Jessie, Austin and Baby Shane; and by several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

A daughter, Luetta Freels, and a brother, Dean Hensley, died earlier.

The funeral was held Sunday, April 26, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton, followed by burial at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.

Thomas Lloyd Guettner
Retired Martin Marietta employee

Thomas Lloyd Guettner, 62, of Kingston, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville.

Mr. Guettner was retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems.

He had also worked with Kingston Bank and Trust and for the Roane County Sheriff's Department for 23 years and served on the Roane County Court for 12 years.

Mr. Guettner was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Kingston and was involved in the church's renovation to make it handicapped accessible. He was also a member of Union Lodge No. 38, also in Kingston.

He was the son of Oscar and Eva Guettner, now deceased.

Mr. Guettner is survived by his wife, Bobbie Joan Thomas Guettner; two daughters and sons-in-law, Portia and Jim Reimer of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Lisha and Phil Harvey of Kingston; a son, Thomas Scott Guettner of Kingston; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Virginia and Calvin Scarbrough and Kathleen Wiseman, all of Kingston; and granddaughters, Paige Watkins, Haley, Hannah and Abby Reimer and Donald Carroll of Michigan.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Guettner's stepmother, Della Carroll Guettner, died earlier.

The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Henegar officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Cedar Grove Baptist Church Handicap Renovation Fund, 407 Old Johnston Valley Road, Kingston, TN 37763.

Pearl Bryson Redmon
Oliver Springs resident

Pearl Bryson Redmon, 73, of 407 Valley Drive, Oliver Springs, died at 2:45 p.m. Monday, April 27, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Redmon had been a homemaker most of her life. She worked for a few years, prior to her marriage, at hosiery mills in Harriman and Clinton.

She was born in Anderson County on Aug. 26, 1924, the daughter of John Robert Bryson and Lucy Mae Russell Bryson, now deceased.

She married Ralph Redmon, who survives her, on May 14, 1949, in Rossville, Ga.

Mrs. Redmon enjoyed camping, quilting, handicrafts and cooking and was also very interested in her grandchildren's lives, the family said. She was a Baptist.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Cecil Redmon of Oliver Springs and Paul Redmon and his wife, Nancy, of Kingston; two sisters, Beatrice Bryson of Cookeville and Aileen Klingler of Kingston; a brother, Larry Bryson of Kingston; three grandchildren, Brandy and Lora-Leigh Redmon of Kingston and Leann Redmon of Los Alamos, N.M.; and by many nieces and nephews.

A sister, Juanita McKee of Cookeville, and two brothers, Robert Bryson of Detroit, Mich., and Tommie Bryson of Kingston, died earlier.

The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Herbert Lee officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.

Lorine Harris
Longtime Oak Ridge resident

Lorine Harris, 70, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.

Mrs. Harris was a longtime resident of Oak Ridge. She and her husband, Phillip Harris, who survives her, had been married for more than 50 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by eight children, Marine Harris, Margaret Harris-Jones, R.T. Harris, Denise Harris-Miller, Arlene Harris-Fernander, Phyllis Harris-Prioleau, Terry Harris and Loressa Harris; a sister, Dorothy Shinault; and a sister-in-law, Lenell Harris.

Mrs. Harris is also survived by six grandchildren and by several nieces, nephews, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law.

Two sons, Phillip "Sonny" Harris Jr. and Sammie Lee Harris, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Oak Valley Baptist Church with the church pastor, the Rev. Hardil Thomas, officiating.

Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at Weatherford Mortuary.

Reba S. Daniels
Corryton resident

Reba S. Daniels, 60, of Corryton, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Daniels is survived by two daughters, Sandra Branch and Betty Beeler, both of Knoxville; two sons, Harvey Daniels of Corryton and Jackie Daniels of Knoxville; a sister, Betty Jo Carden of Lake City; four brothers, Ellis Carden of Clinton, Glnnth Carden of Claxton and Leonard Carden and Bruce Carden, both of Lake City; and six grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at Disney cemetery in Lake City with the Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City.

Samuel Fritz Sparks
Retired Y-12 pipefitter

Samuel Fritz Sparks, 77, of Knoxville, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Sparks had retired after 32 years with Union Carbide Nuclear Division. He had worked as a pipefitter at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.

He was born in Knox County on Feb. 8, 1921, the son of Samuel Raymond and Bessie McNutt Sparks, both now deceased.

Mr. Sparks is survived by his wife, Mildred R. Sparks; a daughter, Carolyn Freeman; a granddaughter, Tina Phillips, and her husband, Kenny; two grandsons, Eric Freeman and Ricky Freeman; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Freeman.

He is also survived by a sister, Louise Tinch; and five brothers, Tom Sparks, Jim Sparks, I.A. Sparks, Billy Sparks and Herbert Sparks.

Three brothers, Frank Sparks, John Sparks and Laymon Sparks Jr., died earlier.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 5, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Knoxville with the Rev. I.A. Sparks officiating. Family and friends will meet at 9:30 a.m. at McCarty-Weaver Cumberland Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, June 4, at the funeral home.

Hayward Glen Taylor
Retired chemical engineer

Hayward Glen Taylor, 77, of Knoxville and a former resident of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Taylor had lived at 106 W. Pawley Road from 1953 to 1982. He retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Division in 1982 as a chemical engineer at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.

He moved to Mobile, Ala., following his retirement and later returned to this area, moving to Knoxville in September 1997. While in Oak Ridge, he was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Born in Pennsboro, W.Va., on Oct. 9, 1920, Mr. Taylor was the son of James Arlie and Orpha Fleming Taylor. A graduate of West Virginia University, he held a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering.

Mr. Taylor is survived by four daughters, Sandra Duncan and her husband, Billy, of Charlottesville, Va., Linda Maynard and her husband, Ken, of Brentwood, Marleen Taylor and her husband, Steve, of Knoxville, and Janet Robbins and her husband, Dan, of Newton, N.J.; and a son, David Glen Taylor and his wife, Dora, of Marietta, Ga.

He is also survived by a brother, A.D. Taylor and his wife, Martha, of Tallmadge, Ohio; and by seven grandchildren, Ken and Mike Thornton of Charlottesville, Tim and Diane Maynard of Brentwood, Stephanie Stinnett of Knoxville and Jaime and Laura Robbins of Newton.

His wife, Eleanor "Jane" Zinn Taylor, died earlier.

The funeral will be held in Mobile, Ala.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Christ Presbyterian Church, 2131 S. Cody Road, Mobile, AL 36695; or to Covenant Health Care Hospice, 9000 Executive Drive., Suite A110, Knoxville, TN 37923.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight, June 4, at Weatherford Mortuary.

Josie Hendricks Conte
Former Oak Ridge resident

Josie Hendricks Conte, 75, of 120 Villa Del Conte Drive, Walhalla, S.C, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at Oconee Memorial Hospital in Walhalla.

Mrs. Conte was a former resident of Oak Ridge.

She was a native of Pickens County, S.C., and the daughter of Rudolph and Loree Jones Hendricks, both now deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Walhalla.

Mrs. Conte is survived by her husband, Alfred L. Conte; two daughters, Karen Call of Gaithersburg, Md., and Tina Issette of Richmond, Va.; three sons, Bob Conte of Springfield, Va., Rick Conte of Issaquah, Wash., and John Conte of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Catherine Campbell of Rock Hill, S.C.; a brother, Earl Hendricks of Greer, S.C.; and five grandchildren.

The funeral was held Sunday, June 14, in the chapel of Davenport Funeral Home in Walhalla.

Burial was at the Old Stone Church cemetery in Clemson, S.C.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Henrietta Egleston Hospital for Children, 1405 Clifton Road N.E., Atlanta, GA 30322.

Preston Lee Phillips
Clinton resident

Preston Lee Phillips, 19, of Clinton, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, in Oak Ridge.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his parents, Lee Roy and Gail Phillips of Clinton.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 2, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. G.W. Boles officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 3, at Sunset cemetery in Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Leoma Parker Thedford
Retired seamstress

Leoma Parker Thedford, 92, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, at her home.

In earlier years, Mrs. Thedford worked as a seamstress for the National Shirt Shop and Balloff's.

She had been an Oak Ridge resident since 1952, moving here from Dyersburg. Her family described her as a good homemaker.

Mrs. Thedford was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and of the Order of Eastern Star, chapter No. 390.

Born in Dyersburg on Jan. 9, 1906, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Laura Dea Bell Parker.

Mrs. Thedford is survived by her husband, B.T. Thedford; her daughter, Laura McIntosh and her husband, William H., of Roanoke, Va.; her son, Bassel T. Thedford Jr. and his wife, Jan, of Denton; her sister, Hazel Taylor of Oak Ridge; five grandchildren, Matt Thedford, Diane Thedford and Becky Thedford, all of South Carolina, Michael McIntosh of Salem, Va., and Harriett Lee Stark of Charlotte, N.C.; and by four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Steve McDonald and Luther Acres officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
