Ruby Herrell Johnson
Retired mail carrier

Ruby Herrell Johnson, 84, of Herrell Lane, Claxton, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Johnson retired in 1969 from the U.S. Postal Service. She had worked as a mail carrier in Powell.

She was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Heiskell. She was the daughter of Huston and Sara Herrell.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband of 64 years, Carl M. Johnson; a daughter, Nina Gault and her husband, C.H., of Powell; and three sons, Ronald L. Johnson and his wife, Nell, and Carl S. Johnson and his wife, Rosalee, all of Powell, and Larry K. Johnson and his wife, Nancy, of Kodak.

She is also survived by two sisters, Emma Henry and Roxie Phillips, both of Norris; two brothers, Oliver Herrell of Claxton and Clifford Herrell of Sweetwater; and by 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, a sister, Ollie McLemore, and two brothers, Albert Herrell and Charles Herrell, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1902 Raccoon Valley Road, Heiskell. The Rev. Harold Ogle and the Rev. Larry Davidson will officiate.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at McCarty Woodhaven Memory Gardens in Claxton. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is handling arrangements.

Floyd Tackett
Lake City resident

Floyd Tackett, 75, of Lake City, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Tackett is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Charles Hazelwood of Knoxville; and two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary S. and Sharon W. Tackett of Caryville, and Chris A. and Naomi Tackett of Clinton.

He is also survived by a sister and her husband, Mary E. and Arthur Lloyd of Clinton; and by three brothers and their wives, Virgil and Martha Tackett of Caryville, Charlie and Thelma Tackett of Lake City and Bill and Mollie Tackett of Clinton.

The funeral will be at 8 tonight, Oct. 2, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City. The Rev. Ernest Ward, the Rev. Clifford Fraker and the Rev. C.H. Baird will officiate.

A graveside service and full military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Oak Grove cemetery in Lake City.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Oct. 2, at the funeral home.

Rosie Ellen Strong
Retired Y-12 Plant operator

Rosie Ellen Bullock Strong, 84, of Clinton, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.

Mrs. Strong was a retired process operator. She worked for Union Carbide Nuclear Division at the Y-12 Plant from Oct. 2, 1951, until she retired on May 1, 1978.

Born April 3, 1913, in Campbell County, she was the daughter of Silas and Nora Bullock. She was the widow of William "Bid" Strong.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Clinton.

Mrs. Strong is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Meredith and her husband, Jennings Meredith, of Clinton; and a son, Dean Strong and his wife, Joan, of Clinton.

She is also survived by a sister, Monnie Russell of Oliver Springs; and three brothers, Truman Bullock of Powell, Robert Bullock of Palo, Ind., and Harvey Bullock of Caryville; two granddaughters, Ashley Meredith of Clinton and Janet S. Christopher of Walland; a great-grandson, Darren Foust of Clinton; and by several nieces and nephews.

A sister, Nettie Towe, died earlier.

The funeral will be at 8 tonight, Oct. 2, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. George Williams officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at McCarty Woodhaven Memory Gardens in Claxton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Earlean Darden Montgomery
Sister of area residents

Earlean Elizabeth Darden Montgomery, 73, of Dayton, Ohio, died Monday, Sept. 29, 1997, in Dayton.

Mrs. Montgomery was the sister of Sarah Green, EmmaLou Culpepper and Arthur Darden, all of Oliver Springs.

She was born in Knoxville on Feb. 4, 1924, and had lived in Dayton for the past 15 years. She was the widow of Harold C. Montgomery, who died in 1979.

In addition to her local sisters and brother, Mrs. Montgomery is survived by a daughter, Estella Fritz, and a grandson she raised, James Darryl Montgomery and his wife, Stephanie, all of Dayton; 12 other grandchildren including Ian Fritz and his wife, Sarah, Adrian Fritz and Raymond Turner and his wife, Robbie; two sisters-in-law, Lydia Montgomery of Oliver Springs and Mildred Harrison of Clinton; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

George Alice Griffin of Oliver Springs and Gracie Walker of Oxford, Ohio, were considered special friends.

A son, Harold LaFrederick Montgomery, died in 1994.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Bowman Funeral Chapel North, 3223 Hoover Avenue, Dayton, Ohio. Burial will be at West Memory Garden cemetery in Dayton.

Christine Wylie
ORHS graduate

Christine Wylie, 50, of Continental Drive, West Knoxville, died Friday, Sept. 12, 1997, in Knoxville.

Mrs. Wylie attended St. Mary's School and was a 1965 graduate of Oak Ridge High School. She was a graduate of South Florida Business College in Pensacola.

While in high school, she met her future husband, Tony Wylie, who survives her. They were married Dec. 28, 1967, and would have celebrated their 30th anniversary this year. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Valdosta, Ga., where he was stationed at Moody Air Force Base.

The Wylies returned to East Tennessee in 1972. Her life was devoted to the care of her children, Megan, Brooke and Neal, and her husband, the family said.

Mrs. Wylie was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Knoxville. She was an avid flower gardener, walker and supporter of various programs at Bearden High School where her youngest daughter is a junior. She especially supported the school's flag corps and band, the family said.

She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of Robert and Christine Fitzgerald, now of Oak Ridge.

In addition to her husband, children and parents, she is survived by a brother, Bobby Fitzgerald; her mother-in-law, Billie Wylie, all of Oak Ridge; and by several other relatives.

The funeral will be held at 7:30 tonight, Sept. 16, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Woods of St. Mary's and the Rev. Rowland Buck of Ebenezer Methodist officiating.

Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in the Veterans Section.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:15 tonight at the church.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the Chris Wylie Memorial Scholarship Fund, Bearden High School Flag Corps, 8352 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919.

McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charles 'Chuck' Stiles
Retired city worker

Charles "Chuck" Stiles, 64, of Route 4, Clinton, died Monday morning, Sept. 15, 1997, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Stiles retired June 4, 1993, as a mechanic in the Maintenance Department of the City of Oak Ridge. Much of his work was on school buses where he met his wife, the former Mary Cowan.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired in October 1972 with the rank of sergeant first class.

Mr. Stiles was a member of Retreads of Knoxville, Harley Owners Group and the Touring Eagles. He was a Baptist.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Patricia Connally and Joann Halt, both of El Paso, Texas; a stepdaughter and stepson, Barbara Hamilton and Mike Cowan, both of Knoxville; a brother, Jim Halt of Michigan; a stepsister, Brenda Strange of Morristown; and nine grandchildren, Tiffany, Jana, April, Jennifer, Molly, Yvonne, Elizabeth, Jessica and Amanda.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Richard M. Elseroad officiating. Burial will be at Bakers Forge cemetery in LaFollette.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the mortuary.

Billy Earl Rogers

Billy Earl Rogers, 63, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Weatherford Mortuary is handling arrangements, which were incomplete this morning.

Homer George Kramer
Former Oak Ridge merchant

Homer George Kramer (Chaim Ben Yosef Wolf), former Oak Ridge businessman, died Friday morning, June 26, 1998, at Hadassah Hospital in Ein Kerem, Jerusalem, Israel. He was 76.

Mr. Kramer had been active in the business and civic community in Oak Ridge, where he and his family lived for many years. He came to Oak Ridge in 1949 and was a shoe department concessionaire at the former Taylor's Department Store in Jackson Square. With Mel Sturm, he later operated the Kramer-Sturm shoe store in downtown Oak Ridge.

More recently, he was an associate of Prudential Services in Knoxville.

Mr. Kramer was a member of Heska Amuna Synagogue and the Armstein Jewish Community Center and was a life member of Hadassah.

He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Shaw Kramer; his children and grandchildren, Elizabeth Kramer Bikoff of Boston, Mass., Ephraim and Shelly Kramer, Shlomo, Miriam, Avigdor, Benyamin Ze'ev, Aviva, Mordechai, Yisrael, Shmuel Baruch, Sima, Yocheved and Dina, all of Jerusalem, Jeff and Ruth Kramer, Isaac, Ethan and Ari, all of Rochester, N.Y., Becky and Josh Shimony, Maya and Alex of St. Louis, Mo.; and a twin sister, Helen Kramer Billig of Knoxville.

A graveside service was to be held at 2 this afternoon, June 29, at the New Jewish cemetery, Knoxville, with Rabbi Arthur Weiner officiating.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the Knoxville Chapter of Hadassah.

Rose Mortuary, Mann Heritage Chapel, Knoxville, is handling arrangements.

Charles Edward Kitts
Powell resident

Charles Edward "Charlie" Kitts, 73, of Powell, died Friday evening, June 26, 1998, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.

Mr. Kitts was the owner of Industrial Scale Co. and a member of the National Scalesmen's Association.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during World War II. He was a Baptist.

Mr. Kitts is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Diana Kitts of Seymour; a granddaughter, Crystal Kitts Marcum; a sister, Anna Rauhuff; and a brother, Glenn Kitts, all of Knoxville.

Judy Rutherford of Powell was considered a special friend.

The funeral will be held at 7:30 tonight, June 29, in the chapel of Rose Mortuary, 1421 Broadway N.E., Knoxville. The Rev. Gibbs Hammond will officiate.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Clear Branch Baptist Church cemetery in Lake City. Members of the Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites with honors. Family and friends will meet at the mortuary at 10:30 a.m. to travel to the cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the mortuary.

Golden

Lorraine Golden of Clinton died this morning, April 8, 1998, at her home.

Anderson County Funeral Home in Clinton is handling arrangements, which were incomplete this morning.

Crystal Braden Wright
Poplar Creek Baptist member

Crystal Mildred Braden Wright, 80, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.

Mrs. Wright was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church in Clinton.

She was born in Anderson County on June 22, 1917, the daughter of Melvin and Minnie Braden.

She is survived by a son, Donnie Braden and his wife, Claudia, of Cornersville; a sister, Vaudie McClellan and her husband, Elton, of Clinton; a brother, Ernest Braden of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Mark Braden and Mary Braden of Lewisburg; one great-grandson, Johnathan Braden of Lewisburg; a brother-in-law, Robert Raby of Clinton; a sister-in-law, Irene Braden of Briceville; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents and two sisters and three brothers, Dorothy Kidwell, Hazel Raby, Abnel Braden, Dewey Braden and Leon Braden, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Bill Dawson, the Rev. Calvin Braden and the Rev. Luke Kidwell officiating.

Burial will be at Sunset cemetery in Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Oct. 10, at the funeral home.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the building fund at Poplar Creek Baptist Church.
