Johnathan D. Clark
Brother of Oak Ridge resident

Johnathan D. Clark of Rochester, N.Y., died Sunday, March 22, 1998, in Rochester.

Mr. Clark was the brother of Lynn B. Clark of Oak Ridge.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1963 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was a 22-year career military officer in the Army Air Corps and the Air Force. As a glider pilot during World War II, he took part in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, the operation Market Garden invasion of Holland and the assault across the Rhine River into Germany. He was also a veteran of the Korean War.

In addition to his brother, Mr. Clark is survived by three sons, Johnathan Clark and his wife, Mary, Peter Clark and his wife, Kathy, and Robert Clark and his wife, Susan, all of Baltimore, Md.; and seven grandchildren, Patrick, Kelley, Colleen, Ryan, Garrison, Carolyn and Jenna Clark.

His wife, Elizabeth Clark, died earlier.

Anthony Funeral Chapel Inc. in Rochester handled arrangements. Burial was at Arlington National cemetery.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to a charity of the donor's choice.

Johnathan D. Clark
Brother of Oak Ridge resident

Johnathan D. Clark of Rochester, N.Y., died Sunday, March 22, 1998, in Rochester.

Mr. Clark was the brother of Lynn B. Clark of Oak Ridge.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1963 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was a 22-year career military officer in the Army Air Corps and the Air Force. Helen Dorsey Eckel
Mother of Karen Bridgeman

Helen Rita Dorsey Eckel of suburban Minneapolis, Minn., died Sunday, March 15, 1998 after a yearlong battle with colon cancer.

She was the mother of Karen Bridgeman and the grandmother of Kevin and David Wright, all of Oak Ridge.

She was born on Oct. 19, 1930, the only daughter of Helen Montag and John P. Dorsey, and grew up in Columbus, Ohio. She graduated from St. Mary of the Springs Academy, attended Ohio State University, and worked for her father at General Office Equipment, a business he started during the Depression.

She and her husband, Charles Leslie Eckel, were married in Columbus on Sept. 8, 1951, and they raised their five children in Columbus and in Berea, Ohio; North Brunswick, N.J., and Brooklyn Park, Minn., a suburb of Minneapolis.

Mrs. Eckel was an active member of the Fridley, Minn., ALANO club. One of her legacies will be the many women she sponsored through Alcoholics Anonymous and her participation as a founding member of the club's Sunday Big Book meeting, her daughter said.

In addition to her local daughter and son-in-law, Ron Bridgeman, and her grandsons, survivors include her husband; two daughters and one son-in-law, Katherine Eckel and Susan and Tim Phenow, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark Eckel and Paul and Carole Eckel, all of the Minneapolis area; grandchildren Jim and Colleen Eckel of Oak Park, Ill.; Adam, Patrick, Michael and Jon Phenow of Maple Grove, Minn.; and Julie and Murry Oakley and their daughter, Helen's great-granddaughter, Chelsea Oakley, of Virginia.

She also is survived by her five brothers and their families: Jack Dorsey of Dublin, Ohio; Bob Dorsey of Longwood, Fla.; Jim Dorsey of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Tom Dorsey of Louisville, Ky., and Bill Dorsey of Columbus, Ohio.

A Mass of Christian Burial is set for Thursday, March 19, in Brooklyn Park. Burial will be in Osseo, Minn., in the cemetery maintained by her grandsons for their church.

Locally, memorial donations may be made to Hospitality House, a program of the Methodist Memorial Foundation. Contributions can be sent to Hospitality House c/o MMF, 990 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37380.

Peggy Rhyne Ledford
Open Door Assembly member

Peggy Ledford, 61, of Claxton, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at her home after a long illness with Lou Gehrig's disease.

Mrs. Ledford was a member of Open Door Assembly of God in Andersonville. Before her illness, she enjoyed singing in church and had been active in the women's missions program, serving as its local director. She had been recognized by the church for her devoted service to the missions program.

She grew up in Edgemoor Baptist Church in Claxton, the family said, which was founded by her grandfather, Samuel Rhyne. She was the daughter of the Rev. Leonard and Bertha Rhyne of Clinton.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ledford is survived by her husband, Alan Ledford; two sons, Richard Ledford and his wife, Kim, of Clinton, and Robert Ledford and his wife, Gwen, of Morristown; two grandsons, Jeremy and Christopher Ledford of Clinton; a sister, Joyce Abdulhadi of Charlotte, N.C.; three brothers, Charles Rhyne and Allen Rhyne, both of Karns, and David Rhyne of Claxton; and by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, at Edgemoor Baptist Church in Claxton with the Rev. David Snodderly of Open Door Assembly of God officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, March 16, at Edgemoor Baptist Church in Claxton.

Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is handling arrangements.

Jimmy R. Sullivan
Clinton resident

Jimmy R. Sullivan, 62, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Sullivan is survived by his wife, Loraine Sullivan; a daughter, Jane Sullivan; and by four sons, Ron Sullivan, Harold Sullivan, Charles Sullivan and Richard Sullivan.

The funeral was held Sunday, Feb. 8, in the chapel of Anderson County Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Howard Bailey and the Rev. Jack Taylor officiating.

Burial was at Sunset cemetery in Clinton, with members of the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard conducting full military rites.

Roxie Elizabeth Stooksbury
Zion Baptist Church member

Roxie Elizabeth Fraker Stooksbury, 83, of Clinton, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Born Sept. 3, 1914, in Anderson County, she was the last surviving child of John W. and Melinda Jane Milligan Fraker. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church.

Her husband, Glen M. Stooksbury, and a son, Johnnie S. Stooksbury, died earlier.

Mrs. Stooksbury is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Jane and Richard Stooksbury of Knoxville and Sue and Tommy Giles of Clinton; a son and his wife, Eddie and Pat Stooksbury of Clinton; and by nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were to be at held 10 this morning, Jan. 30, at Sunset cemetery in Clinton. The Rev. Jack Sills, Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge chaplain, will officiate.

Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton was in charge of arrangements.

Lafayette Wellington Hodges Jr.
Father of Nancy Van Hook

Lafayette Wellington Hodges Jr., 80, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, in a hospital in Florence, S.C., following an illness.

Mr. Hodges was the father of Nancy H. Van Hook of Oak Ridge.

He was born in Florence, the son of Eva Duncan and Lafayette W. Hodges Sr., both now deceased.

Mr. Hodges was retired from Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church of Florence.

In addition to his Oak Ridge daughter and her husband, Robert Van Hook, he is also survived by another daughter, Twitty H. Meyer of Charleston, S.C., and by five grandchildren, including Sydney Van Hook and Mark Van Hook.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Mount Hope cemetery in Florence.

Waters-Powell Funeral Home, 400 S. Dargan St., Florence, S.C. 29503, is in charge of arrangements.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the charity of the donor's choice or to Happy Days and Special Times of Charleston.

Allen Lee Babb
Grandfather of Oak Ridger

Allen Lee Babb, 77, of Knoxville, died at his home Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998.

He was the grandfather of Leah Bradley of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Babb was retired after working as a millwright in Oakland, Calif.

He was born in Oneida on April 12, 1920, the son of Lawrence and Bertha Duncan Babb.

He was a veteran who served with the Merchant Marine during World War II. He was a member of Local No. 102 of the Carpenter's Union in Oakland.

He was an avid fan of the Lady Volunteers, according to the family.

In addition to his local granddaughter, he is survived by his wife, Mary Lynn Lattrelle Babb; two sons, Stephan Babb of Chattanooga and Donald Babb and his wife, Frances, of Knoxville; three brothers, James and Bill Babb, both of Plainsville, Ohio, and J.C. Babb, of Marietta, Ga.; four other grandchildren, Don Babb of Grand Rapids, Mich., Brian Babb of Cambridge Springs, Pa., Stephanie DePew of Walled Lake, Mich., and Jason Babb of Chattanooga; three great-grandchildren, Brianne and Taylor Babb and Zachary Bradley; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A son, Phillip Babb, a sister, Rheba Wright, and two brothers, Kenneth and Claude Babb, died earlier.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary, with Leon Ebbert of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family asks that any memorials be in the form of donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 3704, Memphis TN 38173-0704.

Elaine L. Adkins
Former Norris resident

Elaine L. "Betty" Adkins, 69, of Athens and a former resident of Norris, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville.

She was born in Chicago, Ill., on Dec. 1, 1928, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lenz Sr. She was a member of Athens Lutheran Church in Athens, Tenn.

She is survived by her husband, Claude Adkins, a daughter, Lynette Bailey and her husband, Ray, of Athens; a son, Claude N. Adkins Jr. and his wife, Dianne, of Johnson City; two sisters, Doris Cyga and her husband, Walter, of Palos Hill, Ill., and Lynette Beeskow and her husband, Dennie, of Huntley, Ill.; two brothers, Jack Weller and Tommy Weller, both of Chicago; five grandchildren, who called her "Gigi," Doug Bailey, Traci Bailey, Nathan Adkins, Blaire Adkins and Chris Bailey and his wife, Kelli; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents and a brother, Edward Lenz Jr., died earlier.

Vonda Parker of Norris was considered a long-time and special friend.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. The Rev. Bill Roberts and the Rev. Jan Munch will officiate.

Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Doug Bailey, Chris Bailey, Nathan Adkins, Willie Harris, Larry Sylvester and Jim Ferguson will be pallbearers. Dr. Wahid Hanna, Dr. Brandon Watters, Chris Haley, Todd Haley, Joeby Kasper, Horace Williams, Ralph Parker, Bill Ferguson, Steve Sexton, Eugene "Bud" Isabelle, Robin Smith and chaplains at UT hospital will be honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at the funeral home.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Athens Lutheran Church in Athens, Tenn.
