Mona B. Cox, 91, of Lake City, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Cox is survived by a daughter, Zelma Huckaby of Lake City; two sons, James C. Cox and his wife, Mary, of Powell, and William Floyd Cox and his wife, Rita, of Winter Park, Fla.; a sister, Verlie Copeland of Lake City; and by 15 grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Oak Grove cemetery in Lake City.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Virginia Maurine Brown
Mother of Oak Ridge resident
Virginia Maurine Brown, 90, of Monterey, died Sunday morning, Feb. 22, 1998, at Standing Stone Health Care Center in Monterey.
Mrs. Brown was the mother of Sewell Brown of Oak Ridge.
She was born in Monterey on May 19, 1907, the daughter of Willis and Alice Gunter Robbins. She taught in Putnam County schools for more than 35 years before retiring.
Mrs. Brown was a member of the Putnam County Retired Teachers Association and a lifelong member of the National Education Association.
She had been a member of Monterey First Baptist Church for 78 years and served more than 70 years as a Sunday school teacher, soloist and choir member. Mrs. Brown was the church historian, a member of the Women's Mission Organization and a member of the church's XYZs.
She was the widow of J.S. Brown.
In addition to her local son and his wife, Midge Brown, she is survived by another son, Preston Brown and his wife, Shelia, of Edmond, Okla.; two daughters, Sue Stewart of Knoxville and Patricia Bowman and her husband, Leonard, of Monterey; and a brother, James A. Robbins of Monterey.
Mrs. Brown is also survived by nine grandchildren, Vicki Stevens, Jill Ray, Nikki Bowman, Jennifer Phillips, Mike and Jimmy Brown, Stephen, Marc and Loni Stewart; and by seven great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Alice Elizabeth Brown, and two sisters, Claudine Dunn and Anna Grace Bandy, died earlier.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Central Standard Time on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Monterey First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Vance, the Rev. William J. Powell and the Rev. Gerrald R. Bland officiating.
Burial will follow at Whittaker cemetery in Monterey. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Vaden, Larry Cox, Paul Gilpatrick, Larry Medley, Walter Valaitis, Jack Parrott, Tim Matheney and Gerald Padgett. Honorary pallbearers are deacons and trustees of Monterey First Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight, Feb. 24, at Horner Funeral Home, 203 Holly St., Monterey. Friends and family may also visit the church Wednesday from 2 p.m. until service time.
The Rev. James Albert Fritts
Pastor at area churches
The Rev. James "Jim" Albert Fritts, 69, of Coalfield, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Fritts had served as pastor of several Baptist churches in the local area.
He was born in Oliver Springs on July 17, 1928, the son of John and Lillie Walls Fritts, both now deceased. He had lived in this area all his life.
Mr. Fritts had retired in 1985 from Martin Marietta Energy Systems after working for 32 years as an operator. He began his employment at the federal facilities in Oak Ridge when they were managed by Union Carbide Nuclear Division.
After retirement, he drove a school bus for Coalfield School for six years.
He is survived by his wife, Annah Mac Fritts; a daughter, Shirley Tucker and her husband, J.T., of Oak Ridge; three sons, Gary Lynn Fritts of Coalfield, James Fritts Jr. of Oak Ridge, and David Ray Fritts of Oliver Springs; and seven grandchildren, Brian Tucker, Bradley Tucker, Kristen Tucker, Kandace Tucker, Jamie Fritts, Lisa Fritts Curnutt and Stephen Fritts; and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Fritts is also survived by two sisters, Otella Harvey and her husband, Raymond, of Oliver Springs, and Grace Smith and her husband, Howard, of White Pine; a brother, George Fritts and his wife, Mae, of Oliver Springs; and by several nieces and nephews.
A sister, Josephine Padavick, and two brothers, Charles Fritts and John Fritts Jr., died earlier.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Feb. 24, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Jim Carr and the Rev. Lloyd Napier officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Davis cemetery in Coalfield.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Charles Leonard Nottingham
Retired from Navy Department
Charles Leonard Nottingham, 64, of Clinton, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after a long illness. He had been in the intensive care unit for the past four months.
Mr. Nottingham was a retired civil service employee with the Department of the Navy in Charleston, S.C. He was also a retired member of the Air Force Reserve.
Mr. Nottingham and his wife, Janet Burgess Nottingham, who survives him, lived in Charleston for 20 years and moved to Clinton in May 1995.
He was born in Kilsyth, W.Va., on July 20, 1933, the son of Shirley and Nell Morris Nottingham.
Mr. Nottingham was a longtime member of the bowling community in Charleston, and locally was active in the Atomic City Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed traveling and going to country music concerts, according to his wife, who said they had lived in Japan for six years and that her husband was interested in studying the Japanese language. Another of his interests was Egyptian history, she said.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Nottingham is survived by two sons, Craig Lawson Caldwell and his wife, Renee, of Oak Ridge, and Steven Charles Nottingham of Elgin, Ill.; a grandson, Justin Caldwell of Oak Ridge; a sister, Shirley Gray and her husband, Claude, of Charleston; his father-in-law, Dr. W.B. Burgess of Oak Ridge; nieces Noreen, Terri and Jeanne; a nephew, Tim; and grandnieces and grandnephews Karen, James, Jennifer, Amber, Michelle, Morgan and Mathew.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with the Rev. Ken Henderlight officiating.

Hushel Jennings Stradley
Retired teacher, museum volunteer
Hushel Jennings Stradley, 91, of Oak Ridge, died Monday morning, Feb. 2, 1998, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.
Mrs. Stradley was born in Clinchport, Va., on July 16, 1906, the daughter of Sylvester and Mattie Jennings. She earned college degrees from Hiwassee College and Emory & Henry College and taught for many years in the public schools of Southwest Virginia and East Tennessee.
She was the widow of the Rev. Paul Gill Stradley, who served as minister in the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church from 1933 until 1967.
In May 1967, Mrs. Stradley moved to Oak Ridge and became an active member of First United Methodist Church. She also served for several years as a volunteer receptionist at the American Museum of Science and Energy.
She is survived by a son, Lynn Stradley, a professor of music at California State University in Sacramento, and his wife, Carol, an elementary school teacher; three grandchildren, Stephen Stradley, a professional ballet dancer in Dayton, Ohio, David Stradley, an actor/director living in England, and Suzanne Stradley, a student and ballet dancer in Sacramento.
Mrs. Stradley is also survived by three brothers, Charles L. Jennings of Roanoke, Va., Henderson P. Jennings of Jonesboro, Ark., and Basil G. Jennings of Wise, Va.; and a cousin, Thelma K. Bailey of 114 E. Price Road.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in the chapel of McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. The Rev. Kenneth Henderlight will officiate.
Burial will be at Emory & Henry College cemetery in Emory, Va.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the funeral home.
Ralph Seiber
Petros resident
Ralph Seiber, 71, of Petros, formerly of Oliver Springs, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Seiber is survived by four daughters, Sally Lively and her husband, A.Y. Lively, of Petros, Trula Cole-Heidle and her husband, Gary Heidle, of Oliver Springs, and Midge Adcock-Crowe and her husband, Tony Crowe, and Mary Dabbs-Sewell and her husband, Joe Sewell, all of Coalfield; a sister, Verdie Love of Oliver Springs; and two brothers, Montoe Seiber and his wife, Lois Seiber, of Oliver Springs, and Leroy Seiber and his wife, Julie Seiber, of Mount Airy, N.C.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Oct. 30, at First Baptist Church of Petros with the Rev. Bryson Pride, the Rev. Max Smith and the Rev. Jim West officiating.
Family and friends will leave the church at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, for a graveside service at the Seiber cemetery in New River.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the church.

Forest Cagley
Claxton resident
Forest Cagley, 77, of Claxton, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Cagley is survived by his wife, Johnnie Coday Cagley; two sons, George Cagley and Tony Cagley and his wife, Jeanine, all of Claxton; two sisters, Delia Thomas and Elmira Trentham, both of Clinton; and a brother, J.V. Cagley of Clinton.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Stephens Missionary Baptist Church in Morgan County with the Rev. Harold Dean Ross officiating. Friends may visit the church the half hour before the service.
Burial will follow at Morgan Memorial Gardens.

Jodie D. Thomas
Stepfather of Oak Ridger
Jodie D. Thomas, 74, of Jackson, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Thomas was the stepfather of Bill David Tyler of Oak Ridge.
He was born in Haywood County on Aug. 7, 1923, the son of Arthur and Dera Stitts Thomas. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during World War II in the European Theater. He was a member of VFW Post No. 4728 in Humboldt.
Mr. Thomas grew up in Memphis and attended schools there. He was a retired area superintendent for American Airlines.
He was a Shriner and member of the Bahia Temple in Orlando, Fla., and a member of the Scottish Rite Lodge No. 207 in Orlando where he was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a Baptist.
In addition to his stepson, Mr. Thomas is survived by a son, Bob Thomas and his wife, Becky, of Shreveport, La.; a granddaughter, Jessica Thomas of Jackson, Miss.; a step-grandson, John Tyler of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Johnnie Thomas of Collierville; and a niece, Dera Ashby of Jackson, Miss.
His wife, Edna Thomas, died earlier.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Island Ford cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted.

Woodrow 'Woody' Rumph Jr.
Retired Y-12 Plant machinist
Woodrow Thomas "Woody" Rumph Jr., 84, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 1997, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.
Mr. Rumph retired Dec. 29, 1971, from Union Carbide Nuclear Division. He had worked at the Y-12 Plant as a machinist since March 12, 1951.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church and Faith Masonic Lodge No. 756. He and his wife, Lela Mae Wilson Rumph, by whom he is survived, were active with the Mountaineers Camping Club for retirees. He also enjoyed fishing, the family said.
Mr. Daniel was born in Sheffield, Ala., on April 7, 1913, the son of William Thomas Rumph Sr. and Henrietta Goodspeed Rumph.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lucille Bissell, and her husband, Charles Bissell, of Knoxville; three grandchildren, Kimberly Dawn Bissell Harper and her husband, Jay L. Harper, of Bozeman, Mont., Jay Rumph of Asheville, N.C., and Julie Rumph, a student at the University of Tennessee.
A son, James E. Rumph, died in 1980.
The funeral will be at 8:15 tonight, Nov. 14, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. David McPherson and the Rev. Bob Gray officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the mortuary. A Masonic service will be held at 8:15.
Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
