John Leland Butler
Former C&C bank officer
John Leland Butler, 54, of Clinton, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at NHC HealthCare of Fort Sanders, Knoxville.
Mr. Butler was a former senior vice president at City and County Bank in Clinton.
He was born Oct. 3, 1943, in Roane County, the son of Charlie and Bessie Butler. He was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma American Bankers Association and Vanderbilt University Tennessee Bankers Association.
Mr. Butler was a member and former deacon of Main Street Baptist Church in Lake City.
He is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Butler of Cookeville; a son, Kevin Butler and his wife, Kimberly, of East Lansing, Mich.; two sisters, Betty Mounce and her husband, Leonard, of Dayton, Ohio, and Glenna Hummell and her husband, James, of Knoxville; and three brothers, Charles Butler Jr., and his wife, Clara, of Oliver Springs, David Butler and his wife, Nancie, of Claxton and William Butler and his wife, Betty, of Cincinnati, Ohio.
The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Ray Jones, the Rev. Don Martin and the Rev. Ron Bright officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, at Oliver Springs cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Albert Von Faloon
Retired ORGDP chemist
Albert Von Faloon of 341 Vermont Ave. died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Faloon came to Oak Ridge in 1946 to work for Union Carbide Nuclear Division as a development chemist at the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant.
He retired in 1979 after 33 years of service.
He was born in Lorman, Miss., in 1916.
He graduated from Mississippi State College with a bachelor of science degree in 1938 and from the University of Georgia with a master of science degree in 1940.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retired from the Navy in 1976 with the rank of commander.
Before serving in the Navy, Mr. Faloon was employed as an ammunitions inspector at the Wolf Creek Ordnance Plant in Milan.
He and his wife, Mary Frances "Frankie" Faloon, who survives him, met in St. Augustine, Fla., during the war. They were married
in Norfolk, Va., in 1946.
After retirement, he and his wife traveled throughout the United States in their motor home.
Mr. Faloon was a Mason and a Shriner and was active for many years as a clown in the Kerbela Klown Kamp.
He also was active in the PTA at the former Pine Valley Elementary School.
For several years, he served as chairman of the Oak Ridge Beer Board, and he was a 50-year member of the Elks.
Mr. Faloon was a member of First Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Linda Lynch and her husband, William, of Albany, Ga., and Cheryl Caldwell and her husband, Mike, of Memphis; and five grandchildren, Jeremy and Laurel Lynch, both of Albany, and Priscilla, Amanda and Elizabeth Caldwell, all of Memphis.
Robert Rickard of Solway was a special friend.
The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Larry Dipboye and the Rev. Stephen Freeman officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Stoneville cemetery in Leland, Miss.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.

Eddie Goodman
Maynardville resident
Eddie Wayne Goodman, 43, of Maynardville, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Goodman is survived by his wife, Teresa Elaine Weaver Goodman; three children, Wally, Amy and Charlie, all of Maynardville; his parents, Walter and Viola Goodman of Lake City; three sisters, Mary Cooper of Knoxville, Brenda Sue Cooper of Lake City and Linda Annette Curtis and her husband, Donald, of Caryville; a brother, Joe Mack Goodman and his wife, Gloria Faye, of Knoxville; and his grandmother, Rosa Mae Goodman of Lake City.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City.
Burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Robert P. Darnell
Retired OR police officer
Robert P. Darnell, 71, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.
Mr. Darnell was a lieutenant with the Oak Ridge Police Department.
He retired Jan. 7, 1989 after 44 years of service.
Born Aug. 29, 1926, in Elkin, N.C., he was the son of Beulah Parks and Ernest W. Darnell.
He moved to Oak Ridge at the age of 18 and was employed with the Roane-Anderson company and later with Management Services Inc. of Tennessee before he started as a patrolman when the city became incorporated.
He earned the rank of detective in 1971 and of lieutenant in 1973.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge No. 1684. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Darnell is survived by his wife, Frances Morgan Darnell; three daughters and their husbands, Belinda and Greg Redmond of Knoxville, and Kathy and David Cox and Diane and Jim Qualls, all of Oak Ridge; and a son, Robert K. Darnell of Oak Ridge.
He is also survived by four sisters, Betty Jo Jones of Richmond, Va., Pauline Walker of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Ray Ann Phillips and Judy Gambell, both of Elkin, N.C.; a brother, Tim Darnell of Elkin; two sisters-in-law, Mary Darnell and JoAnn Hall; three brothers-in-law, James E. Morgan, Milford Spruill and Paul Jones; 11 grandchildren, Richard Dowdy, James Redmond and Jennifer Redmond, all of Knoxville, Sondra Darnell, Matthew Darnell, Katie Cox, Michael Laurendine, Tommy Laurendine, Jamie Qualls, Daniel Qualls and Matthew Qualls, all of Oak Ridge; and by several nieces and nephews.
Marilyn Darnell of Oak Ridge is his former daughter-in-law.
A brother, Ernest Darnell, a sister, Joy Spruill of Adelphi, Md., and a granddaughter, Amy Cox of Oak Ridge, died earlier.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Sept. 16, at the mortuary.
