Major James A. Ray
Johnson CIty, TN - Major James A. Ray, USA Retired, age 64, of Johnson City, TN, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 20, 2006, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Born in Springfield, IL , James was a resident of Buncombe County, N.C. earning a Master Degree from East Tennessee State University. He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. He was a highly decorated officer having served three tours of duty in Vietnam having earned the Bronze Star Medal, an Air Medal, an Army Commendation Medal and a Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Palm.. He also considered himself a soldier in the Lord's Army. He was the former owner and operator of Flower, Inc., West Ashville, NC He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and a friend to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Ray
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Ina C. Ray of the home; two daughters, Tamala Wells and husband Robert of Knoxville and Crystal Lyons and husband Bobby of Gray; two sons, Lonnie Ray and wife Becky of Weaverville, NC and Jimmy Ray and wife Nicole of Fletcher, NC; his mother, Roxie (Keener) Brinkley of Ashville, NC, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild; a sister, Martha DeHart of Almond, NC; a brother Frank Ray of Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews.
Entombment services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Chapel of Faith Mausoleum, conducted by Pastor Eugene Dodd and Pastor Billy Taylor. A eulogy will be offered by his children. Music will be provided by Tommy and Debbie Stanaland, granddaughters, Katie and Emily Ray and Scott Shields. Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnny Brown, Richard Brown, Robert Wells, Jason Wells, Bobby Lyons and Austn Lyons. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to North Ashville Baptist Church, Building Fund, 20 Reynolds Mtn Blvd., Ashville, NC 28804

Walter Ray Carmack
Walter Ray Carmack, 68, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born in Wise County, VA and had lived in Kingsport from an early age. He served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. He was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and received his Masters Degree in Music from Western Kentucky State College. Ray was a member of the VFW Post #3382. He lived in and taught school in Middlesboro, KY and Vero Beach Florida. Ray was a member of First Christian Church of Kingsport.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Compton Carmack.
Surviving are his father, Walter E. Carmack and wife Nola of Kingsport; three sisters, Anita Sadler and husband Schley of Brentwood, TN, Elaine Carmack of Kingsport and Patricia Vicknair of Cumming, GA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors at 1:30 to 3 pm on Saturday, August 26, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Friends may also call anytime at the residence of his father, 1585 Warpath Drive, Kingsport. A celebration of his life will follow at 3 pm in the funeral home chapel with Minister Phil Scott, officiating. Music will be provided by Bob Dade accompanied by Beverly McConnell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Kingsport, 106 Charlemont Street East, Kingsport, TN 37660 or to Wellmont Hospice, 130 W. Ravine Street, Kingsport, TN 37660.

Floyd Gunter
CHURCH HILL - Floyd Gunter, age 68 of Church Hill, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at his residence following a long illness.
Born in Madison County, NC, Floyd had been a resident of Tennessee for 6 years. He was a Christian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Dora Gosnell Gunter and a brother, Paul Gunter.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Gunter of the home; daughters, Ann Reynolds and husband Eddie of Kingsport, Kathy Ramsey of Cleveland, OH, Chris Maruschak and husband Andy of Canton, OH, Sandra Jennings of Stanbawgh, KY; sons, Bobby Gunter and wife Debra of Berea, OH, Ronnie Gunter and wife Donna of Sheffield Lake, OH and Lewis Phillips and wife Gina of Deltona, FL; twenty one grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; sister, Fannie Davis of Asheville, NC; brother, Ralph Gunter and wife Sue of Columbia Station, OH; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Tommy and Maggie Fansler
Calling hours will be from 4-7 PM Sunday, August 27, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Services will follow at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jonathan Rogers officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday at Washington County Memory Gardens, Johnson City. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Reynolds, Dustin Gunter, Bobby Gunter, Eddie Kerns, Butch Gunter and Carson Davis. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 AM.

Pauline Larkin
KINGSPORT - Pauline Reynolds Larkin, age 88 of Kingsport, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday morning, August 28, 2006, at Indian Path Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Greenville, SC she had lived in Kingsport since she was 11 years old. She attended Sullivan Baptist Church and Gravely Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Carl Larkin; son, Robert Lee Larkin; parents, Arthur Lee Reynolds and Bertie (Stewart) Reynolds; sister Edna May Garrett; and brother, LeeRoy Reynolds.
She is survived by her sons, Jack Larkin and wife Debbie of Columbus, GA, Dennis Larkin and wife Cookie of Morristown, Allen L. Larkin and wife Teresa of Kingsport; daughter-in-law, Jacqui Larkin of Newport Beach, CA; grandchildren, Adam and Jackie Larkin, David Larkin, Shelia Ann Larkin, Matthew and Ben Larkin and Bobby Larkin; six great grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 5-7 PM Tuesday August 29, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Friends may also call anytime at the home of her son, Allen Larkin, 2025 Todds Drive, Kingsport, TN.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Salley and Rev. Jeff Strong officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Oak Hill cemetery. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 AM.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gravely Baptist Church, 500 Gravely Road, Kingsport, TN 37660 or Sullivan Baptist Church, 4152 Maplewood Street, Kingsport, TN 37660.
The family would like to thank the ICU Nursing Staff at Indian Path Hospital, Dr. Roy, Dr. Hodges, Dr. Jeff France and the many other doctors and staff that cared for her during her illness.

James W. Atkins
KINGSPORT - James Wesley Atkins, 76, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 2, 2006, at Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Kingsport. James was a Painter and enjoyed stone cutting, working with diamonds and stones. He loved to sing and sang with many gospel groups.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Hettie M. Seymour Atkins; two sisters, Mamie Kettleman and Ruby Clifton and one brother, Billy Ray Atkins.
Surviving are his daughters, Marcella Lofty and husband William of Chattanooga, TN, and Beverly Sandifer of Kingsport; sons, James L. Atkins and wife Biennenida of Bradenton, FL and Jonathn Atkins and wife Claudia of Kingsport, grandchildren, Toby B. Creekmore, Holly T. Lynch and husband Jeff, Christina L. Keslo and husband Nathan Donna Crabtree, Danny Lofty, David Vanzant, Chris Vanzant, Arron Fite and wife Betty and Kimberly Yakley; five sisters, Juanita McMurray of Kingsport, Phyllis Norris of Blountville, Barbara Moore, Lola Ray and Delores Darnell all of Kingsport; two brothers, Paul Atkins and Charles Atkins; his former wife and mother of his children, Jessica Darnell of Kingsport, along with several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 4 - 6 pm on Monday, September 4, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 6 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. J. B Walters, officiating. A eulogy will be offered by Rev. Paul Atkins.
Graveside services will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at the Oak Hill cemetery, Kingsport. It is requested that family and friends meet at the cemetery by 12:55 am.

Shirley Frazier
KINGSPORT - Shirley Mellons Frazier, 71of Kingsport, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2006 , at Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and a graduate of Lynn View High School. Shirley was previously employed with the Kingsport Press and Tennessee Eastman. She was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Nora (Carroll) Mellons; sister, Faye M. Light; two brothers, Gene Mellons and Jack Mellons.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, James M. Frazier of the home; daughter, Jamie Richardson and husband Anthony of Kingsport; grandchildren, Lauren and Tyler Richardson; sisters, Dana Pratt of Kingsport, Joanne Gray and husband Norman of Mt. Carmel; two brothers, Arthur Mellons and wife Betty of Louisville, KY, Glenn Mellons and wife Jane of Kingsport; sisters-in-law, Janice Mellons of Blountville, Francis Mellons of Kingsport, Elsie Daugherty of Nickelsville, Evelyn Frazier of Knoxville; brother-in-law, Wallace Light of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 PM, Monday September 10, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Friends may also call anytime at the residence, at Glencliff Drive in Colonial Heights.
Funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Victor Wallace and Rev. Jim Gray officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Oak Hill cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg Light, Jon Light, Jeff Mellons, Mike Mellons, Ben Mellons, Nathan Gray, Stanley Frazier and Danny Ray Meade. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 AM.

Rodney Carter
Kingsport - Rodney Lynn Carter, 48, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 1, 2006 , at his residence.
He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan Co., TN. He was a graduate of Sullivan West High School. Member of Colonial Heights Christian Church and attended West View Primitive Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by her grandparents and her father in law, Charles Hurd, Sr.
Surviving are his wife, Karen Hurd Carter of the home; daughter, Brandi Hutson and husband Chris of Kingsport; son, SN Matthew Carter and wife Elly of Groton, CT; parents, Jack Carter and Katie Collier Carter of Kingsport; a grandson, Dakota Hutson; 2 sisters, Joann Arnold and husband Gary and Cathy Bowser and husband Jimmy all of Kingsport; a brother, Milton Carter and wife Carolyn of Unicoi, TN; mother in law, June Hurd; sister in law, Sandra Wenver, 2 brothers in law, Donald Hurd and Charles Hurd, Jr. all of Kingsport along with several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 - 7 pm on Monday, April 3., 2006 at the Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Burnice Sybert, officiating. Music will be provided by the Church Quartet.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at Church Hill Memory Gardens, Church Hill, TN. Pallbearers will be his family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Sullivan North High School JROTC members.
It is requested that the family and friends meet at the cemetery by 10:55 am on Tuesday.
