Martha Jane Fields
BLOUNTVILLE - Martha Jane Necessary Fields, age 51 of Blountville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 10, 2006 at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
Martha was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. She was of the Holiness Faith and attended several area churches. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William "Bill" Necessary and Josephine Bishop Necessary.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Fields of the home; daughter, Rebecca Maria Guy and husband Michael of Blountville; son, Buck Fields and wife Rebecca of Kingsport; parents, Clarence R. and Martha "Maybelle" Necessary of Blountville; grandchildren, Hunter Fields, Sarah Guy, Michael Guy and Quentin Fields; sisters, Mary Lawson of Blountville and Hattie Edwards and husband Jerry of Knoxville; brother, David "Bill" Necessary and wife Vickie of Greeneville, Fred Necessary and wife Rosalee of Kingsport, Clarence "Junior" Necessary and wife Robin of Blountville, John Necessary of Kingsport, Garry Necessary and wife Barbara of Fall Branch, and Larry "Curly" Necessary and wife Donna of Jonesborough; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 PM Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Services will follow at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Margaret Price and Rev. Paul Brickey officiating. Music will be provided by the Collins Family Singers and Donnie Derrick.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Thursday at Church Hill Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Daniel Necessary, Mark Necessary, Richard Necessary, Henry Necessary, Mike Guy and Jason Lawson. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:55 PM.

Charles Fredrick Greer
Charles F. Greer, 78, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 13, 2006, at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Scott Co., Virginia, Charles had lived in Maryland before moving to Kingsport in 1991.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruby Brown Greer; one sister and two brothers.
Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Violet Greer of the home; two daughters, Deborah Sowers and husband Robert of Demorest, GA and Jeanette Beaumont and husband Matthew of Clarksville, GA; two sons, Charles Greer and wife Elizabeth of Glen Burnie, MD and David Greer and wife Cindy of Baltimore, MD; eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Williams and husband Charles of North Carolina, Shirley Huff of Georgia, Nellie Shifflett and husband Billy of Virginia, Deal Ruckles and husband Vernon of Maryland, Robert Greer and wife Barbara of Maryland and Jimmy Greer and wife Rachel of Tennessee, along with several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 - 7 pm on Friday, September 15, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Greg Street, officiating.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at Crest Lawn cemetery, Sykesville, MD

Mina Lou Tester
KINGSPORT - Mina Lou Lawson Tester, 79, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 14, 2006, at Sunbridge Hillside Manor Healthcare.
She was born in Scott Co., VA (Grit Hill) and had lived in Kingsport all her adult life. She worked at Tennessee Eastman for over 12 years and also worked at Skoby's Restaurant. She was a member of Bloomingdale Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Tester, two sisters, Allie Davenport and Mary Head and three brothers, Chris, Arthur and Andrew Lawson.
Surviving are her two daughters, Sabrina Brommer and husband Daniel and Diana Shutts and husband Chris, all of Lebanon, Va.; her two sons, Burless Tester and Tony Tester and wife Rhonda, all of Kingsport; seven grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a brother, Milum Lawson of Kingsport and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 - 7 pm Saturday, September 16, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport or friends may call anytime at the residence, 316 Morelock Street, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bob Yates, officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, September 17, 2006 at Tri-Cities Memorial Garden, Blountville. Pallbearers will be her family and friends.

Howard C. Schmoldt
Kingsport - Howard C. Schmoldt, 90 , passed away on Monday, (April 3, 2006) at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tenn.
He was of the Lutheran faith and was a disabled U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was awarded two Purple Hearts due to wounds he received in Belgium and Germany.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane Schmoldt of the home; his son and daughter in law, Donald and Sharon Schmoldt of Kingsport; grandsons, Erick V. Schmoldt, Kingsport, Wesley Adam Schmoldt, Church Hill; granddaughter, Tammy Schmoldt, Church Hill; great grandchildren, Jacob Collier, Alexus Schmoldt and Savannah Schmoldt.
Calling hours are from 12 noon to 1 pm on Thursday, April 6, 2006 in the chapel of Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 2 pm on Thursday at Mountain Home National cemetery, Mountain Home, TN. The American Legion Hammond Post # 3 and Gate City Post # 265 will provide the military honors with Joe W. Byrd, chaplain.
Pallbearers will be the Veterans Color Guard.

Hoyt Jennings Shortt
KINGSPORT - Hoyt Jennings Shortt, 61, of Kingsport went home to be with his Heavenly family on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at Vanderbilt University Hospital, Nashville, after a brief illness.
Hoyt graduated from Pound High School in 1962 and from Virginia Tech in 1967. He worked for 17 years with Southland Corporation (7-11) as a Human Resources Training Director. After obtaining his Masters in Education, he was an instructor for Business Management courses at National University. After leaving Southland Corp, he sold real estate in Northern Virginia through Prudential Reality until retiring in 2004 and moving to Kingsport.
After leaving college, Hoyt served as an officer in the U. S. Army from August 1967 to February 1971 where he served a tour of duty in Germany and Vietnam.
Hoyt loved music and had a collection of harmonicas which he carried with him wherever he traveled. He also played trombone in the orchestra at Higher Ground Baptist Church, where he was a member.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James D. and Margaret Mullins Shortt; his wife, Mary Stover Shortt and a son Steven Hoyt Shortt.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Shortt of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jamie (Tracy) Shortt of Holly Spring, NC; a daughter-in-law, Deann Shortt of Sharpsburg, GA; three grandchildren, Morgan, Carson and Logan Shortt; three sisters, JoAn Killen of Kingsport, Jimmie (Frank Gary) Vanover of Clintwood, VA and Sandra (Larry) Meade of Pound, VA; one brother, Steve (Maggie) Shortt of Kingsport, along with several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be held at Higher Ground Baptist Church, Family Life Center, at 6 pm on Thursday, September 21, 2006 with Dr. Phil Hoskins and Dr. Shannon Salyer or friends my also call anytime at the residence. Music will be provided by the church choir and orchestra. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the fellowship hall. A private family interment icon service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Higher Ground Baptist Church, 1625 Lynn Garden Drive, Kingsport, TN 37665-1363 or to Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Research, C/O Department of Neurological Surgery, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, T-4224 Medical Center North, Nashville, TN 37232-2380.

Eva Bell Dillow
KINGSPORT - Eva Bell Crawford Dillow, 90, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 17, 2006, at Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was born in Union Co., TN and lived most of her life in Kingsport. She was retired from J. P. Stevens Borden's Mills, Inc. after over 30 years of service and was of the Baptist Faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Dillow; her parents, Jack and Eliza Lynch Crawford and four grandchildren.
Surviving are her four daughters, Dorothy Blair and husband Calvin of Kingsport, Linda Cole and husband W.C. of Blountville, Peggy Pruitt and Mary Easler both of Kingsport; two sons, Jack Pruitt and wife Betty of Kingsport and Don Pruitt of the home; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchidlren; a sister, Laverne Crochan of Kingsport and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 - 7 pm on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Earl Timothy Cole and Rev. J.W. Depew, officiating. Music will be provided by Tammy Black.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at Oak Hill cemetery, Kingsport, TN. It is requested that family and friends meet at the cemetery by 10:55 am.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Hospice House, 280 Steele's Road, Bristol, TN 37620 or to a charity of your choice.

Michele Turner
KINGSPORT - Michele Dessaint Turner, 64, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 19, 2006, at Indian Path Medical Center.
She was born in Cambria, PA and lived here in Kingsport. Michele was Manager of Rafferty's Card Shop and was a member of the Saint Dominic's Roman Catholic Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother. She enjoyed her cats, reading and sewing.
Surviving is her husband; Thomas L .Turner of the home; three daughters, Kathleen (Michael) Kellum of Johnson City, Shawn (Phillip) Hill of Breese, IL and Colleen Berry of Johnson City; her son, Thomas Turner, Jr. of Kingsport; her parents, Lloyd and Dolores Buksa Dessaint of Kingsport; seven grandchildren, Ryan Hill, Rijeana Hill, Dallyce Hill, James Berry, Meagen Berry, Taylar Kellum, and Brianna Kellum; a great granddaughter, Alexla Roberts; two sisters, Denise (Les) Ferguson of Texas and Beatrice (John) Carrion of Colorado.
Mrs. Turner will lie in state from 10 am to 11 am on Friday, September 15, 2006 at Saint Dominic's Roman Catholic Church, 3517 N. John B. Dennis Hwy, Kingsport, TN. Mass of Christian Burial will follow in the church at 11 am. A private funeral will follow.
Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Dominic's Roman Catholic Church in her memory.

Freda Pearl Crawford
KINGSPORT - Freda Pearl Crawford, 81, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at Brookhaven Manor following a long illness.
Born in Russell County, VA, she had lived in Kingsport for most of her life, where she was a very active volunteer in several clubs and organizations. She was retired from Holston Valley Medical Center after 21 years of service. She was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church.
Mrs. Crawford was preceded in death by her husband, Verlin Crawford; her parents, Spearel and Audrey Sykes Huffman; four sisters, Peggy Larkins, Mary Brinkley, Juanita Creasy and Dolly Reynolds; two brothers, Jack and Bobby Huffman and her daughter-in-law, Debbie Crawford on September 19, 2006.
Surviving is her daughter, Kathy Strange and husband Jerry of Kingsport; four sons, Jerry Crawford, Larry Crawford and wife Jane, Jim Crawford and wife Lora all of Kingsport and Billy Joe Crawford and wife Lisa of Smyrna, TN; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; a sister, Dixie Gray of Lebanon, VA and several nieces, nephews and extended family
Calling hours are from 5 - 7 pm on Friday, September, 22, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Elmo Owens, officiating. Music will be provided by Heavenly Way Trio.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Tri-Cities Memory Garden, Blountville, TN. It is requested that friends and family meet at the cemetery by 10:55 am.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society C/O Wanda Grills, 1217 Radcliffe Drive, Kingsport, TN 37660.
