Edna Margaret Holsted
Former Clinton resident

Edna Margaret Holsted, 85, of Milan, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital in Jackson.

Mrs. Holsted was a former resident of Clinton. She was a retired cafeteria manager at Clinton Senior High School.

She was the widow of C.C. Holsted and she was a member of West Village Christian Church of Oak Ridge.

She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Williams of Milan; her granddaughter, Christal Hughes of Cedar Grove; her great-grandson, Alexander Hughes of Cedar Grove; her sisters, Marie Arnett of Hamilton, Ohio, Jeanette Tucker of Henderson, N.C., Carrie Ingram and Evelyn Moore, both of Middlesboro, Ky., and Eva Thacker of Arthur, Tenn.; and by her brother, Harold Vanbever of Middlesboro.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Jan. 3, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Noel Kirk officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Black Oak Baptist Church Cemetery in Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Nancy B. Bayne
Co-founded mentoring program

Nancy B. Bayne, 50, of Oliver Springs, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Bayne was a native of Essex Falls, N.J. She had lived with her husband, Stuart W. Bayne, and daughter, Rebecca G. Bayne, in Roane County since December 1979.

This past year, she co-founded a student mentoring program at Oliver Springs High School with the mission of impacting students who challenge the traditional learning environment.

Mrs. Bayne was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church of Oak Ridge.

In addition to her husband and daughter, who live in Oliver Springs, she is survived by her parents, David Soule Bate and Janet Mallon Bate of Roseland, N.J.; her brother, Dr. David Bate of Asheville, N.C.; and her sisters, Suzanne Morris of South Orange, N.J., and Catherine Bull of Highland Park, N.J.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Phil Tollett officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

A service will also be held Saturday, Jan. 6, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Essex Falls.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Nancy Bayne Educational Fund, Oliver Springs High School, 419 Kingston Ave., Oliver Springs, TN 37840; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Claude Taylor
Lake City resident

Claude Taylor, 76, of Lake City, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Lake City Health Care Center.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City. The Rev. Moss Beets and the Rev. Archie Seiber will officiate.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Norris Memorial Gardens, Norris.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Katherine Eileen Stratton
Sister of Dewey Bullard

Katherine Eileen Stratton, 76, of Kissimmee, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at a hospital in Florida.

Born Jan. 10, 1925, she was a native of Knoxville.

Mrs. Stratton was the widow of Fred Stratton.

Her family described her as a very talented lady who was loved by all who knew her and whom they will deeply miss.

Mrs. Stratton is survived by her son, John Stratton and his wife, Debbie, of Fort Worth,  Texas; her grandchildren, Christy Stratton of Burbank,  Calif., and Eric Gonzalez of Hong Kong, China; a brother, Dewey F. Bullard Sr. and his wife, Marjorie, of Oak Ridge; and her nieces and nephews, Francine Walker of Tallahassee, Fla., Eileen Perkins of Middletown, N.J., Linda B. Hamner and Becky Phillips, both of Oak Ridge, Frank Bullard Jr. of Reston, Va., Donita Peterson of Lincoln, Neb., Janet Carter of Sheridan, Wyo., and Tim Bullard of Dallas,  Texas; and several grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins in the Knoxville area.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Mynatt Funeral Home on Rennick Road, Knoxville.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Sharon Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Robinson officiating.

Henry A. 'Hank' DeGolyer Jr.
Former Oak Ridge resident

Henry A. "Hank" DeGolyer Jr., 56, a resident of Maynardville and a former resident of Oak Ridge, died Sunday evening, Dec. 30, 2001, at his home after a nine-month battle with cancer.

Mr. DeGolyer was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church in Halls.

He was also a U.S. Army veteran who served two tours of duty in Vietnam.

Mr. DeGolyer is survived by his father, Henry A. DeGolyer Sr.; his brother, the Rev. George A. DeGolyer and his wife, Pam DeGolyer; his sister, Ada Catherine Sewell and her husband, Steve Sewell; and his nieces and nephews, Amber DeGolyer, Alasa DeGolyer, David DeGolyer, Micah DeGolyer, Larson Sewell and Catherine Sewell.

His mother, Cleobelle Moore-DeGolyer, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Beaver Dam Baptist Church in Halls. The Rev. George A. DeGolyer and the Rev. Scott Thomas will officiate.

Viewing will take place during the hour prior to the funeral.

Burial will follow the service in Skaggs Cemetery in Maynardville. Pallbearers will be Dan Edwards, Larry Mathis, Ron Henson, Gary Bean, Greg Needham and Wayne Diamond. Members of the Sanctuary Class and deacons of Beaver Dam Baptist Church will be honorary pallbearers.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Building Fund at Beaver Dam Baptist Church or to Gideons International. Call 992-5555 for address information.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Ailor Mortuary in Maynardville.

Cora V. Duncan
Former employee of Anderson County Schools

Cora V. Duncan, 77, a lifelong resident of the Frost Bottom Community of Anderson County, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003.

She was born May 18, 1925. She retired from Anderson County Schools in 1992 after working there for 17 years. She was a member of Friendly Welcome Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Clifford Duncan and his wife, Beatrice, and Mack Duncan and his wife, Dyan, all of Oliver Springs; five daughters, Shirley Lowe and her husband, Grant, Patsy Ward, Jean Duncan and Wilma Phillips and her husband, Frank, all of Oliver Springs, and Jeanie LaMance and her husband, Tony, of Wartburg; a brother, Lee Duncan of Oliver Springs; four sisters-in-law, Irene Duncan of Toledo, Ohio, Hazel Duncan of Briceville, Dorothy Duncan and Florence Duncan, both of Oliver Springs; 15 grandchildren, Mattie LaMance, Julie LaMance, Marquetta Webb, JoAnn Bishop, Cindy Moore, Wendy Boshears, Mindy Jobe, Andy Phillips, Rusty Phillips, Tonya Goddard, Brad Duncan, Terry Duncan, Judy Duncan, Juanita Walls and Betty Brown; 25 great-grandchildren; special cousins, Beulah Comer and Hazel Duncan, both of Briceville; and a special granddaughter and caregiver, Cindy Moore. She considered Patsy Robbins, Shirley Haydon, Willie J. Johnson and Aunt Hattie as special friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Pat Duncan; a daughter, Sherlda Duncan; three sons, Everett Lee Duncan, David Duncan and Troy Duncan; her parents, Cage and Florence Duncan; five brothers, Joe Duncan, Clifford Duncan, Harry Duncan, Walter Duncan and Elijah Duncan; and two sisters, Odessa and Ruth Duncan.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, at Friendly Welcome Baptist Church. The Rev. Steve Seiber and the Rev. Greg Leffew will officiate. Graveside service will follow at Frost Bottom Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs.
