KINGSPORT - Ronald Edward "Ed" Hancock, Sr., age 60 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 2, 2006, at Hillside Manor Health Care following a long illness.
Born in Roanoke, VA, Ed had lived in Kingsport for most of his life and was a member of Charity Chapel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Hancock; his parents, Vernon and Susan (Bernard) Hancock; and a brother, Vernon Hancock, III.
He is survived by his daughter, Suanna Jean Bullion and husband Jimmy and a son, Ronald Edward "Eddie" Hancock, Jr. all of Kingsport; grandchildren, Kayla Elizabeth and Summer Rain Bullion; sisters, Jean Smith and husband Ronnie of Leesville, LA, Brenda Massie and husband Harry of Ronceverte, WV and Judy Horowitz of Richmond, VA; brother Jerry Hancock of Richmond, VA; as well as, other family members and friends.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Monday at Sullivan County cemetery in Blountville, TN with Pastor Mike Owens officiating. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:55 PM.

Herbert Hoover Bell
Blountville - Herbert Hoover Bell, 79 of Blountville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 21, 2007, at his residence unexpectedly.
Born in Hancock County, TN, Mr. Bell had lived most of his life in Blountville. He was a truck driver, having retired from Mason-Dixon Truck Lines and a member of the Local Teamsters. He attended Lighthouse Bible Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Etta (Lawson) Bell; grandson, Timothy Sabin McPeek; sister, Mary Ann Brooks; brother, Joe Bell, and the mother of his children, Pearl Bell.
Mr. Bell is survived by his daughters, Linda Phillippie and husband Bob of Bluff City, Pat McPeek Clark and husband Dave of Blountville; son, Michael Bell and wife Sabrina of Church Hill; grandchildren, Robbie Phillippie, Becky Perry and Anthony McPeek; great-grandchildren, Melody and Matthew Phillippie and Nathaniel Perry; sister, Alice Gibson and husband Taylor of Blountville; brothers, Fayne Bell and wife Maxine of Kingsport, Ralph Bell and wife Joyce of Fall Branch, Gene Bell and wife Geraldine of Blountville and Roy Bell and wife Judy of Bluff City; sister-in-law, Blanche Bell of Blountville; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Margaret Christian, Paige and Faye Adams.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 PM on Tuesday September 25, 2007 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Earnest Steffy and Rev. Edward Rogers officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Gunnings cemetery, Blountville, TN. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 AM. Pallbearers will be Anthony McPeek, Matthew Phillippie, Robbie Phillippie, Paige Adams, John Greene, Jimmy Bell, Billy Wells and Darrell Bell.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mr. Bell's caregivers, Pam Thompson and Paul Trent for their kindness and care.

William Max Hensley
Kingsport - William "Max" Hensley, 69 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 21, 2007, at his residence following a brief illness.
Born in Rogersville, Max had lived most of his life in Kingsport. He was retired from the Kingsport Press and was a member of the Tennessee National Guard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clay Hensley, Sr. and Dora Gilbert Hensley; brothers, Clay Hensley, Jr. and Gene Hensley; sister-in-law, Burita Hensley and a great-granddaughter, Alexa Merrell.
He is survived by his wife Ruby Gilbert Hensley of the home; daughters, Kim Merrel of Ohio, Leslie Hensley Martin and Angela Agner and husband Martin all of Kingsport; sons, Billy Hensley and wife Angela, Jeff Hensley and Guy Gilbert, Jr. all of Kingsport; fifteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Larkins and husband Jerry of Gray, Alberta Jones and husband Bill of Church Hill, Bea Stallings and husband Houston of Knoxville, Betty Perry and husband Neal of Knoxville; brother, Joe Hensley and wife Carolyn of Mt Carmel; sisters-in-law, June Hensley and Edith Hinkle; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 PM Sunday, September 23, 2007 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Tony Peters officiating. Tony will also provide the music. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Billy Hensley, Donny Lawson, Jeff Hensley, Bobby Merrell, Jeff Merrell and Rick Neese. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Arthur Boyd and Joe Hommel.

Chester Baker
Chester Baker, 76, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord Friday (September 21, 2007) at his home with his family by his side after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Baker was born in Wise County, VA and lived in Wise County and Kingsport, TN. He was a loving father and grandfather. He worked as a coal miner for several mining companies in Wise County. He served in the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jessee Baker; a son, Gilmer Michael Baker; his father, Willard Baker, and a brother, Lloyd Baker.
He is survived by his mother, Stella Baker, Wise, VA; two daughters, Keltie Kerney, and husband Mike, of Weber City, VA., Michelle Herron, and husband Jeff, Kingsport; two sons, Lloyd “Bo” Baker, Kingsport, and Mark Baker, Denver, Colorado; eight grand-children, Amy Birchfield, Kelly Stidham, Suzanne Kerney-Quillen, Ashley Blankenbeckler, Katie Kerney Elliott, Monica Rowan, Rebekah Herron, and Jason Herron; four great-children, Kyler Kerney, Bo Ellie Rowan, Lucas Birchfield, and Asher Elliott; two sisters, Faye Baker Hall and husband Kenneth, Wise, VA, Betty Jane Baker O’Hare and husband Brian, Sevierville, TN; one brother, Jessie Allen Baker and wife Betty, Wise, VA; several very special nieces, nephews and cousins, Wise, VA. Sister-in-law Mary Jessee Collins, Abingdon, VA, and Leta Jessee, Bristol; brother-in-law Harrison Jessee and wife Penny, Wayland Jessee and wife Faye, Wise, VA and Bill Jessee, Oklahoma; and many special friends and neighbors.
The family would like to extend thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff of Adventa Hospice for their exceptional care and support.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 23, in the Carter-Trent Funeral Home Chapel, with services to follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. John Sheppherd, officiating.
A prayer celebration service will be held at Ewing Chapel- Community Fellowship Baptist Church, Gate City, VA at 11 a.m. A military committal will be conducted September 24, 12 noon, by the VFW Post 3382 and the Tennessee National Guard at the Holston View cemetery, Weber City, VA. Pallbearers will be Lloyd “Bo” Baker, Mark Baker, Jeff Herron, Jason Herron and Jerry Faith.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International, Scott County Camp, P.O. Box 845, Gate City, VA 24251.

Thelma (Salyer) Ratliff
Thelma L. (Salyer) Ratliff, 87, Church Hill, TN went to be with her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday morning September 17th, 2007 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Dante, VA October 23, 1919. She married the love of her life, Glen Ratliff, on July 11, 1940. They resided in TN and started a family until moving to upstate NY in 1947 where they had a dairy farm for 14 years and their three youngest children were born. They then moved back to TN where she resided for the remainder of her life. In the last several years as her health declined, her loving daughters took care of her and her daughter, Pat, moved in with her.
She is a Godly woman & loves the Lord with all her heart. She is of the Baptist faith & a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church. She was the best wife, mother, granny, aunt & sister anyone could ask for. She was well known for her good country cooking. She always had an open heart, open hand & an extra place at the dinner table with enough food to go around for everyone. She was the epitome of a role model & mentor. She will be remembered for all the things she taught us through our words and actions for generations to come. Thelma was always there to lend a helping hand. She was the most unselfish person & sacrificed a lot, not ever thinking of herself. She was a homemaker, the family caregiver and matriarch. She was a loving neighbor. We will miss her dearly and we are all blessed beyond words and honored to have had her in our lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin G. Ratliff, her only son, Robert E. Ratliff; daughters, Margaret Bellamy & Helen Burk, two infant daughters who died at birth, her parents, Robert E. & Audie M. Salyer, three brothers, Roderick Salyer, Curtis Salyer & Kermit Salyer, and one sister Bannie Fletcher.
She is survived by one sister, Lee Etta R. Salyer, Hampton, VA, three daughters, Glenda & husband, John Evjen, Vinton VA, Patricia Hart and Eddie Dorton, Church Hill, TN & Barbara Ratliff and Jim Ryans, Kingsport, TN as well as a granddaughter who she raised, Teresa & husband Eric Rowland, Kingsport, TN. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Robert Ratliff & wife Donna, Hannibal, NY, James Patrick & wife Donna, Mt Carmel, TN, Bridgitt Osborne & husband Ricky, Kingsport, TN, Ronnie Burk, Church Hill, TN, Kathy Seastead & husband Mark, Highland Ranch, CO, Jamie Burk & wife Shannon, Sanford, NC, Lisa McElhaney & husband Scott, Arlington, VA, Matthew Evjen, Roanoke, VA. 14 great-grandchildren, Chase Hart, Dillon, CJ, Mandy & Jenna Ratliff, Amanda Canata & Robert Ramsey, Brittani Peters, Taylor & Bailey Burk, Macy Burk, Gabriel, Ethan & Trent Evjen. Three great-great-grandchildren, Jason & Jacob Canata, Myla Peters. One son-in-law, Jay Burk and one daughter-in-law, Brenda Ratliff.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday at Carter Trent Funeral Home Kingsport, TN. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 pm at Carter Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Shannon Salyer & Rev. David Foster will be officiating. Burial following at East Lawn Memorial Park. Music will be provided by David Foster. Pallbearers will be Robert Ratliff, James Patrick, Ronnie Burk, Jamie Burk, Matthew Evjen, Chase Hart & Eric Rowland.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tish Hamrick, Kim Meade of Amedisys and Eleanor Graham and Sandra Nadeau of Adventa Hospice.

Madge Larkins Davis
Kingsport - Madge Larkins Davis, 79 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 17, 2007, at Indian Path Medical Center following a long illness. She was a life long resident of Kingsport and a member of Living Waters Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Davis; daughter, Carol Gent; her parents, Henry and Arizona Larkins and several brothers and sisters.
Madge is survived by her daughters, Sharon Frazier and husband Mike of Surgoinsville, Donna Hicks and husband Glenn of Kingsport, Rhonda Davis and Jim Harrison of Leyard, Conneticut, Julie Davis and Milton Clark of Nicklesville, VA, Jackie Arwood of North Carolina; sons, Johnny Davis, Mike Donihe and wife Patsy, Steve "Cooney" Gardner and wife Shelby, David Gardner and wife Barbara all of Kingsport; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Sneed and Cris Strickler both of Kingsport, Bonnie Vassel of Georgia; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 PM Wednesday (September 19, 2007) at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Friends may also call anytime at the homes of the daughters, Donna Hicks or Sharon Frazier.
A funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Glenn Hicks officiating.

Geneva Adam Kindle
Kingsport - Geneva Kindle, passed away peacefully at her home Sunday (September 16, 2007), surrounded by loving friends and family.
Geneva was born March 4, 1923 in Clinchport, VA the twelfth of fourteen children of Rachael and Andy Adams. She enjoyed most of her life in the Bloomingdale area of Kingsport.
Geneva was loving and devoted to her husband Paul of 61 years, and their son, Griffin Kinard and his partner Dan Claeys of Knoxville.
Geneva loved life; and avid gardener and cook, she nurtured and encouraged everyone she met. She especially loved bingo with her special niece, Jeanette Parker.
Geneva and her family would especially like to thank Advanta Hospice Care and Barbara and Coy Kindle for their unwavering love and support.
We will celebrate Geneva's life at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport on Wednesday (September 19, 2007) from 10 a.m. to ll:30 a.m. with a memorial service to follow in the chapel. Burial will follow at the Mountain Home National cemetery.

Kingsport – Chris L. Elliott Sr., 27 of Kingsport, TN went to be with the Lord Sunday (September 9, 2007), at Johnson City Medical Center, following an automobile accident.
Born in Kingsport, Chris had lived most of his life in Blountville. He was a graduate of Sullivan Central High School and was a roofer by trade.
He was preceded in death by his Aunt, Kathy Barron; and his grandparents.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Beth Elliott, Kingsport; sons, Christopher Lee Elliott, Jr. Kingsport; Austin Michael Repass, Bristol, TN; mother and step-father, Diane and Larry Jarrett, Jonesborough; father and step-mother, Ron and Sandy Elliott, Johnson City; paternal grandparents, Ronald and Helen Elliott, Blountville; sister, Michelle Pierson and husband Jeremy, Gray; nieces Casey and Hannah; several aunts and uncles.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday (September 12, 2007) at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday (September 13, 2007) at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with Pastor Ron Lee officiating. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m.
