James Mann, Sr.
Gray, TN - James Ray Mann, Sr., 61 of Gray, Tenn., passed away on Monday, September 3, 2007, at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.
Born in Fort Payne, Alabama, Mr. Mann had lived most of his life in Bakersfield, California, but had lived in the Gray area for the past 3 years. He served in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret (Gallenger) Mann.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lynda Ferketich Mann; sons, Stephan Mann and wife Tammie of Bakersfield, CA, James R. Mann, Jr. and wife Tina of St Petersburg, FL, Randolph Mann and wife Kelly of Yuma, AZ; father, Lotha Ray Mann of Alabama; grandchildren, Haley, Dakota, Hannah, Megan, Brandon and Christina; great-grandchild, Jamie; sisters, Cathy, Susan, Sharon, Linda and Rosemary; brothers, Patrick, John and David; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to College for Grandchildren, 2410-A Talbot, Yuma, AZ 85365.

Bobby Hicks
Kingsport - Bobby C. Hicks, 71 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 2, 2007, at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Russell County, Virginia, Bobby had lived in Kingsport for most of his life. He was retired from Frank's Foods and loved playing gospel music. He attended Faith Bible Tabernacle.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; one sister; and a granddaughter.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gladys Turner Hicks of the home; sons, Dennis Hicks and wife Sandra of Jonesborough, TN and Ricky Hicks and wife Carolyn of Kingsport; three grandchildren; sisters, Mary Thomas and Louise Harlow both of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 PM Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Buford Blankenbeckler officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 AM.

Louise Ashworth Carter
Kingsport - Margaret “Louise” Ashworth Carter, 72, Piney Flats, went to be with the Lord on Friday (August 31, 2007).
Born in Carter County, TN, she lived in Sullivan County most of her life and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Carter was a member of Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bascomb Arlie Ashworth and Margaret Glenna Ashworth; son, Rusty Carter.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert L. Carter, Piney Flats; son, Steven A. Carter and wife Martha, Piney Flats; daughter-in-law, Robin M. Carter, Kingsport; brothers, Bob Ashwoth, Paul Ashworth and Jim Ashworth; a “special” niece, Patty Ashworth and husband Paul; grandchildren, Annette M. Carter-Parsons and husband David, Nekesha Carter-Williams and husband Chris, Kingsport, Amira N. Carter and fiancé Bryan Byrd, Layne Carter and Marcus Carter of Kingsport; great-grandchildren, Angelina O’Conner and Payton Williams.
Calling hours will be Sunday (September 2, 2007) from 1 to 4 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Friends may also call anytime at the residence of 923 Muddy Creek Rd. Piney Flats, TN, 37686.
Funeral service will be Sunday 4 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Todd Jennings officiating. Music will be provided by Martha Carter, Todd Jennings, Roger and Gail McConnell.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday (September 3, 2007) at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Pall bearers will be Paul Ashworth, Jr., Donnie Locklear, Raymond Ward, Chris Williams, David Parsons and Bryan Byrd. Honorary pallbearers will be John Fullen, Lonnie Horne and Phil Messer.

James Aubrey Boggan
Kingsport - James Aubrey "Butch" Boggan, 89, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, (May 24, 2006) at his residence.
He was born in Fitzgerald, Georgia and has lived in Kingsport for over twelve years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Darien, Ga., where he served as a Deacon for over 60 years.
Aubrey was affiliated with Brunswick Pulp and Paper Company until 1967 when he accepted a position with Mead Corp. in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. In 1973, they transferred to Chillicothe, Ohio where they lived until retirement in February 1979.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Fleu and Mattie Taylor Boggan and a brother, W. F. Boggan.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Mrs. Inez (Guy) Boggan of the home; his son and daughter in law, Dr. Michael D. Boggan and wife Glenna "Gigi" of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Matthew Boggan of Knoxville, Laura Elizabeth Southard & husband Tony of Ajijie, Mexico, Joshua Andrew Boggan and Zachary Michael Boggan both of Kingsport; special friends, Valerie Holbrook, Shelia Morefield, and Virginia Silva along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A service will be held locally at 6 pm on Friday, May 26, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport with Pastor Jack Edwards, officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Friends may also call at the residence, 1309 White Street, Kingsport.
Calling hours will be held from 2 - 4 pm on Sunday, May 28, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Darien, Georgia. Funeral services will follow at 4 pm with the Rev. Logan Smith and Rev. Dr. Michael Warren, officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Palmetto cemetery, Brunswick, GA. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church of Darien, Georgia, Jack Beuthune, Ronnie Beuthune, Roy Parks, Walter Mills, Gerald Thompson, Charles DeVall and Harry Boggs.
Special thanks to Dr. Smiddy, Dr. Funke and Wellmont Hospice Nurses and also, Gene Thacker.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Broad Street United Methodist Church Building Fund, Kingsport.

Rev Ernest Younce
Ft. Blackmore, VA - Rev. Ernest Ottie Younce, 93 of Fort Blackmore, Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 24, 2007 at Wexford House after an extended illness. Born in Kingsport, he had lived in North Carolina and Florida before moving back to Kingsport in 1970. His work included the dry-cleaning business and he later retired from the City of Kingsport where he worked in the Parks and Recreation Dept. He was an ordained minister and did church and evangelistic work.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Hobbs Younce; two infant sons; a granddaughter, Brenda McConnell; his parents, Phillip and Sarah (Miller) Younce; several sisters and brothers.
He is survived by his daughters, Anna Marie Carter of Clearwater, FL, Debra McConnell and husband Mike of Kingsport; sons, Phillip Younce and Steve Younce both of Bristol, TN; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 PM Monday, August 27, 2007 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM Monday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Stan Anderson and Rev. Bernard Lewis officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Oak Hill cemetery. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 AM.

Lucian A. Babb
Lucian A. Babb, 60, Kingsport, TN passed away unexpectly Wednesday (August 22, 2007), at Sunrise Hospital, in Nevada.
Born in Scott County, VA (Hillstation), he had lived in Kingsport since he was five years old. He was retired from Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Lucian was of the Baptist Faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elda Babb; sisters, Joyce Browser, Darlene Bruner and Glenna Wheat; brother, Terry Babb.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Morrell Babb, of the home; mother-in-law, Vergie Morrell, Kingsport; sisters, Marlene Manis, Marsella Cavin and Ruth Arnold all of Kingsport; brothers, Jack Babb, Gary Kay Babb and Phillip Babb all of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, (August 25, 2007) at Old Kingsport Presbyterian cemetery, Kingsport, TN, with Rev. Johnny Ray Bear, officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to The American Heart Association, 208 Sunset Drive, Johnson City, TN, 37604.

Patricia Ball
Kingsport - Patricia "Pat" McMurtry Ball, 62 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 19, 2007, at Holston Valley Medical Center following a long illness.
Born in Johnson City, TN, Pat had been a resident of Kingsport since 1998 and was a member of Pilgrim's Chapel Church where she served as pianist.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Storage McMurtry and Hazel (Lilley) McMurtry and a son Clayton "Tony" Markland..
She is survived by her husband, Richard Ball of Kingsport; daughter, Teresa Markland of Johnson City; son, Tom Markland, Jr. of Johnson City; step-daughters, Martha Ball of Kingsport and Tammy Sue Baker and husband Wesley of Knoxville; step-son, Ricky Ball and wife Mandy of Kingsport; granddaughter, Taylor Mabery; grandson, Hunter Markland; step-grandchildren, Britney Baker and Devon Baker; special friend, Karen Kimes.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6:00 PM Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at Pilgrim's Chapel Church on Bancroft Chapel Road, Kingsport, TN with Rev. Joel Smith officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service.

Violet Goins
Violet (Quillen) Goins, 83, of Kingsport, TN went to be with the Lord, Wednesday (August 15, 2007) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Violet spent her life around Kingsport and Church Hill, except for a few years in Baltimore, Maryland. She retired from Tennessee Eastman Co. after over 40 years of service, retiring the first of the year in 1985.
After retirement she did volunteer work for Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center for 12 years. Violet was a charter member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John Edward Goins in August 2002; parents, William Christopher Quillen and Ollie Cora Hickman Quillen; sisters, Wanetta Quillen Simpson, Beulah Rose Quillen, Elwanda Quillen Carter; brothers, Hiram Christopher Quillen, William Paul Quillen, Billy Doyle Quillen, James Buford Quillen;
She is survived by her son, John E. Goins, Jr. and wife Jane Kite Goins, Mount Carmel; grandchildren, Joseph E. Goins and wife Melissa Begley Goins, Kingsport, James E. Goins, Mt. Carmel; Sisters, Jean Robinette Thomasville, NC, Polly Collins and husband Earnest Mt Carmel; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Saturday (August 18, 2007) from 10 to 11 a.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Friends may also call anytime at the residence at 1200 Lomax Street, Kingsport, TN.
Funeral service will be Saturday 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with Pastor, Stanley Sims and Rev. Paul Ketron officiating. Music will be provided by the Andrew Singers, Orville and Imogene Rogers. Burial will follow in Oak Hill cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Hope Baptist Church (Building Fund), 334 Holden Dr., Kingsport, TN 37663.
