Hazel Clark
Church Hill - Hazel Smith Clark, 74 of Church Hill, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 1, 2007, at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Pennington Gap, VA, she had been a resident of Kingsport for most of her life. She was formerly employed with Skoby's, Holston Valley Medical Center and had most recently worked at Lloyds's on Shelby.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Matilda (Ruderford) Smith; sisters, Pauline Clark and Thelma Laney; brothers, Lewis Smith and Paul Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Sandidge; sons, Anthony Clark, Steve Clark and Willy Clark and wife Brenda all of Kingsport; grandchildren, Candace, Amanda, Stevie and Joey Clark; grandson, Devin Dishner; brothers, Roy Lee Smith and wife Stella, Painesville, OH, Billy Smith and wife Nellie, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5:30-7:30 PM Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A funeral service will follow at 7:30 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mike Owens officiating. The Sluss Family will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday at East Lawn Memorial Park at 2 p.m. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:55 p.m.

Flora Absher Thorpe
Flora Absher Thorpe, 98 went to be with the Lord, Monday (December 3, 2007) at Church Hill Health Care.
She was born in Eidson, Tenn. and had lived most of her life in Lee County, Virginia. She moved to Kingsport in the late 1960’s and was a member of the Ocoonita Baptist Church of Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Thorpe; parents, James Preston and Mary Frances (Anderson) Absher; four sisters, Sophia V. Kallam, Cornia Absher, Bessie Thorpe, and Blanche Fleenor; infant brother, James Ray Absher.
Flora is survived by her sisters, Mabel Absher, and Pauline Crusenberry, both of Kingsport; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; great nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday (December 5, 2007) at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Lennis France officiating. Music will be provided by Bobby Anderson and Carolyn Sachowitz.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, Va. Friends and family planning to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:55 p.m.

Weaver Dexter Lester
Kingsport – Weaver Dexter Lester, 45, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, (December 1, 2007) at Wellmont Holston Medical Center, unexpectedly.
Born in Welch, WV, Weaver had lived in Kingsport for the past 10 years, and was an employee of Cracker Barrel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dillard and Ollie Vanover Lester; sister, Mary Jane Hartsock.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Charlene Lester, Princeton, WV; sons, Dexter Weaver Lester and Brandon Allen Lester, both of Princeton, WV; grandchildren, Cierra Lasha Rowe, Jeanette Helen Lester, Dexter W. Lester, Jr., Shane Lester and Danielle Lester; sisters, Shirley Willis, Kingsport, Evon Howell and husband Franklin, Tazewell, VA; brothers, Charles Lester, Roger Lester, Jessie Ray Lester, David Lester, all of Kingsport, Robert Lester, Hensley, WV; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday (December 7, 2007) at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. James Snapp officiating.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday (December 8, 2007) at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be fellow workers at Cracker Barrel. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:55 a.m.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mark Bradley and Dr. Elaine Yeary for their special care.

Betty Helton Taylor
Kingsport – Betty Helton Taylor, 72, Kingsport passed away at her residence Wednesday (December 12, 2007).
She was born in Morristown, TN and moved to Kingsport in 1943. She was a graduate of Lynn View High School. She was a charter member of Ft. Robinson Baptist Church. C.B. handle Avon Lady in 70 and 80’s of Ridgeway Drive in Kingsport. Betty worked at Publix Food Market and Minute Markets and was a member of Kingsport React. Betty and Ray owned and operated Taylor’s Air Conditioners.
She was preceded in death by her twin son, Tony Dale Taylor; parents, Haskell “H.R.” and Cidna Helton; brother, George Dana Helton; great-granddaughter, Gracie Jane Armstrong.
She is survived by her husband, Noah Ray Taylor, of the home; twin-daughter, Teri Armstrong and husband Daniel, Hayden, AL; son, Billy Taylor and wife Jennifer, Kingsport; grandson, John Taylor, Kingsport; grandchildren, Derrick, Desiree, Joshua, and Roger Armstrong all of Hayden, AL, Toni and John Marshall, Knoxville, Dawn and Robert Queener, Knoxville; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Andrew Queener, and Austin Marshall, all of Knoxville; sisters, Ruth Howerton, Church Hill, Mary Wade and husband Jim, Kingsport; brother, William “Bill” Helton and wife Janice, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday (December 15, 2007) at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Chaplin, Bob Gibson officiating.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Sunday (December 16, 2007) at Oak Hill cemetery. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:55 p.m.

Paul Truman Johnson
Kingsport – Paul T. Johnson, 61, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (December 18, 2007) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a long illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and graduated from Sullivan High School.
He was preceded in death by his wife Suzanne Johnson; parents, Carl and Mable Johnson; sisters, Frances Barry and Ruth Coors.
He is survived by his loving companion, Patricia Mashburn; daughter, Carla LaForce, Kingsport, Kellie Gayfield and husband Richard Lee, Kingsport; son, Robert Johnson and wife Tonya, Kingsport; grandchildren, Mindy Johnson, Brad Gilliam, JC LaForce, Stephanie Gayfield, Josh LaForce, Brooke Johnson, Ashley Lee and Rachel Johnson; brother, Frank Johnson and wife Phyllis, Kingsport; several nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be Friday (December 21, 2007) from 6 to 7 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A Celebration of Life will follow in the funeral home chapel at 7 p.m. with Pastor John Hodge officiating.

William Kilgore, Jr.
Ocala, Florida - Billy was born September 6th 1959 in Kingsport, Tenn, but had lived in Florida for the last 20 years. Sunday, (December 23, 2007) he went to his heavenly home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 48, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He attended Pinecrest Baptist Church in Elizabethton and also Apostolic Lighthouse, where he was baptized in Jesus Name. Even though he started late in life he loved to go to church and pray and read the Bible. Billy was a fisherman and loved the outdoors and NASCAR racing. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and will be greatly missed and never forgotten by all his loved ones and friends, which include; Anthony Addington, Danny Rae Ferguson, Brian Frye, Brian Shaw and Special Friend Ronda Rock (Mousey).
Preceding him in death was his father, Bill Kilgore; mother and step-father Shirley and Joseph Faircloth; grandmothers, Mary Absher and Reba Griffen; grandfather, Bob Kilgore.
He is survived by his son, Josh of Ocala; sisters, Beverly Absher Newland (whom he made his home with, in Elizabethton for the past year), Towma Williams and husband Phil, Kingsport, Jeannie Kalmbach, Ocala Fl.; Nephew, Jamey Williams, and Laura; Nieces, Kimberly Stapleton and Melissa Greene, Kingsport, Kristi Kilgore, Washington State; Great Nieces, Lauren and Sydni; great nephews, James Thomas “JT”, Zachary, River and Lief.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 pm Thursday (December 27, 2007) at Apostolic Lighthouse Church.
Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. at the Church with Pastor David Peters, Rev. Jonathan Lovelace, Rev. Gary Thacker, and Rev Mark Lovelace officiating. Music will be provided by the Lighthouse Singers.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Apostolic Lighthouse at 145 Shipp Springs Road, Kingsport, TN 37660.

Lucille (Gilly) O'Neill
Johnson City - Lucille (Gilly) O'Neill, 94 of Johnson City, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2007 at Appalachian Christian Village in Johnson City.
Born in Wise County, Virginia (Norton) Mrs. O'Neill had lived in Kingsport for over 50 years, but had been a resident of Appalachian Christian Village for the past 6 years. She was a member of Pactolus United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Paul O'Neill and her parents, Ewing and Margie Ellis Gilly.
Mrs. O'Neill is survived by her daughter, Paula Sparboe and husband Dean, Wilmington, NC; sons, Pat O'Neill and Tim O'Neill and wife Camille, all of Johnson City; grandchildren, Maggie O'Neill, Ross Sparboe, Sarah Thornburg and Susan Derry; five great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 11 AM until 12 PM on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A funeral service will follow at 12 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Estel Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell Valley cemetery, Big Stone Gap, VA. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Appalachian Christian Village, as well as, the members of the Edgefield United Methodist Church (Piney Flats) for their visits and prayers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church of one's choice.
