Ruth Bell Christian, 91
KINGSPORT - Mrs. Ruth B. Christian, age 91, of 313 Arbutus Drive, departed this life Saturday, (May 25, 2002) at the Brookhaven Nursing Home and went home to be with the lord following an extended illness.
Mrs. Christian was a native of Hawkins County but had spent most of her life in Kingsport. She was a member of the Kingsport Church of God.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gale Christian in 1968, one son, Robert Christian, two grandchildren, Ronnie Christian and Linda Barnette, four sisters, Bonnie Trent, Elsie Lawson, Lona Minor and Mae Bowlin and son-in-law, Tommy Bishop.
Survivors include five daughters and son-in-laws, Dorothy and Jack Hester of Winston Salem, N.C., Louise and Ed Gendron of Beckley, West Virginia, Alma Bishop of Kingsport, Jessie and John Gillenwater of Church Hill and Jo Ann and Richard Honaker of Rogersville. One son and daughter-in-law, Edd and Faye Christian of Mount Carmel. 18 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 7:00 to 9:00 pm Monday at the Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence of her daughter, Alma Bishop, 313 Arbutus Drive, Kingsport.
Graveside services will be conducted 1:00 pm Tuesday at the Highland cemetery in Rogersville with Dr. T.L. Burgner officiating. Family and friends are to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 pm Tuesday.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Scott and the nursing home staff at the Brookhaven Nursing Home and to Betty Bishop for the loving care and services.

Annie Lee Martin, 58
KINGSPORT - Annie Lee Ball Martin, 58, of 2214 Idle Hour Road, passed away Thursday (May 23, 2002) at her home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Martin was a native of Kingsport and spent most of her adult life in Norfolk, Virginia before moving to Kingsport seven years ago. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James W. Martin, Jr., her parents, Roy and Ollie Barrett Ball, sister, Betty Jo Garrison.
She is survived by three sons & daughters-in-law, James W. Martin and Curtis and Robin Martin, all of Kingsport; Harold E. and Rose Martin, Taylor, South Carolina; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rose and Bill Hardy, Kingsport; Sandra and Wayne Nesmith, Orlando, Florida; 11 grandchildren; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Beth Ball, Ronnie and Jerri Ball, all of Kingsport; David and Vickie Ball and Roy Ball, all of Church Hill; Fred and Carolyn Ball, Rogersville; one sister and brother-in-law, Carrie Lucille and Roy Johnson, Church Hill; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Rodney Bishop officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in the McPheeters Bend cemetery.

EULA WADE BOGGS
SURGOINSVILLE - Eula Liccie Boggs, 75, of 333 Amis Chapel Road, passed away Friday (May 24, 2002) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a short illness.
Mrs. Boggs was a native of Lee County, Virginia and had lived in Hawkins County since 1973. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Palmer and Jenney Davis Wade, sisters, Ethel Davis and Pearl Kanell, brothers, Noah Wade, Herb Wade and Ray Wade.
She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Roy Boggs and James and Margaret Delph all of Surgoinsville; two grandchildren, Gennie Delph and Darren Joseph Boggs; her former husband, Elmer Boggs, Surgoinsville; one brother, Chester Wade, Staunton, Virginia.
Calling hours are from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
A memorial services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Rodney Bishop officiating.

Nita Jo Poe, 74
KINGSPORT - Nita Jo Poe, 74, of 536 E. Fleetwood Court, passed away Thursday (August 1, 2002) at the Holston Valley Hospital & Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Poe was a native of East Stone Gap, Virginia and was a member of the East Stone Gap First Baptist Church. She resided in Newport News, Virginia for 26 years and has lived in this area for the past three years. She attended the First United methodist Church of Church Hill and was a retired sales person for Montgomery Ward.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry K. and Gertrude Irene Hensley Baker, brother, Paul H. Baker, sisters, Mary Baker Powers and Cora Baker Mullins.
She is survived by her husband, Paul "Gabby" Poe, Kingsport; one brother, Edward S. Baker, Newport News, Virginia; two sisters, Madge Baker Nickey, Hanover, Pennsylvania; Julie Baker "Dody" Sinclair, Edgewater, Maryland; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Church Hill.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 8:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Victor Wallace officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Liberty Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Mullins, Jack Mullins, Don Francisco, Mike Poe, Bill Britton and Mark Arnold.

A. C. "Carl" Minor, 79
CHURCH HILL - A. C. "Carl" Minor, 79, of 1256 Burlington Street, passed away Thursday (August 1, 2002) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital & Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Minor was a native of Hancock County but had spent most of his adult life in Hawkins County. He was a member of West Ridge Presbyterian Church and was a retired electrician with Tennessee Eastman Company with 25 years service. He owned and operated Minor's Mobile Home Park. Mr. Minor was a member of Clay Masonic Lodge # 386, the Knoxville Consistory of Scottish Rite Masons and Kerbella Shrine Temple. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Charlotte Minor, his father, Hagan Minor, his mother and step father, Ezra and Betty Hurd Minor Willis, brothers, Glen Minor and Eugene Willis, sisters, Evelyn Lawson and Geneva Hurd, daughter-in-law, Judy Minor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Athalea Mauk Minor, Church Hill; two sons and daughter-in-law, Wayne Minor, Gray; Gary and Donna Minor, Church Hill; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Gene Gray, Rogersville; Anita and Gordon Horne, Surgoinsville; grandchildren, Brian Gray, Angela Couch, Shena and Lance Stapleton, Kelley and Sarah Minor, Robin Bragg, Lisa Bear and Joel Brassfield; great grandchildren, Austin, Miranda, Matthew, Alaxandria, Emiley and Tanner; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Nancy Willis, Rogersville; one sister, Virginia Winstead, Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Sunday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David Sims officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens.

Shirley Roberts Armstrong, 67
CHURCH HILL - Shirley Roberts Armstrong, 67, of 115 Armstrong Circle, passed away Friday (August 2, 2002) at Indian Path Hospital and Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Armstrong was a native of Kingsport and had spent her life in Kingsport and Church Hill. She was a member of Calvery Baptist Church and was a retired nurse with the Church Hill Health Department. Shirley worked for several years as a beautician with Lloyds Beauty Center in Kingsport.
She was preceded in death by her parents, T. M. and Verna Ramsey Roberts.
She is survived by her husband, Mack R. Armstrong, Sr., Church Hill; one son, Mack R. Armstrong, Jr., Church Hill.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. W. Frank Crawford, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Springs cemetery.

Clarice D. Larkin, 83
CHURCH HILL - Clarice D. Larkin, 83, passed away Friday (September 27, 2002) at the Church Hill Health Care Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Larkin was a native of Scott County, Virginia but had spent most of her adult life in Church Hill. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Church Hill and was a 50 year member and past Worthy Matron of Fairview Chapter # 80 Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Rebecca Lodge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Worley Larkin, she was the last surviving child of her parents, Robert and Ida Bell Moore Davis, four sisters, Ethel Ford, Bessie Haynes, Mary Alice Bellamy and Elsie Jaynes, son-in-law, John A. Larkin.
She is survived by one son and Daughter-in-law, Eddie and Carolyn Larkin, Church Hill; one daughter, Peggy Larkin, Church Hill; three grandchildren, Melissa Larkin, Greg Larkin and wife Samantha, and Amy Crain, one great grand daughter, Jessica Larkin. A special thanks to the staff of Church Hill Health Care Center and third floor staff at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence of her son, Eddie Larkin, 114 Hawkins Street, Church Hill.
Services will be conducted Saturday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bud Beverly and the Rev. James Byford officiating. An Eastern Star Memorial Service conducted by Fairview Chapter # 80 will follow the funeral service.
Graveside services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens.
The family request those desiring may make memorial contributions to Mount Plesant Baptist Church, First Free Will Baptist Church of Church Hill or the Church Hill Rescue Squad.
