Douglas R. Cooper, 72
SURGOINSVILLE - Douglas R. Cooper, 72, of 535 Amis Chapel Road, passed away Monday, (November 11, 2002) at 2:00 p.m. at the Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol following an extended illness.
Mr. Cooper was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was a member of the Amis Chapel United Methodist Church. He retired in 1991 from Holston Defense with 28 years of service.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dee & Mollie Calton Cooper. two brothers, J.D. Cooper and Cecil Cooper.
Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Rhoten Cooper of the home, adopted son, Fayne Cooper of Surgoinsville; adopted daughters, Susan Chambers and Stacie Looney both of Surgoinsville, grand daughter, Sydney Chambers of Surgoinsville. Two sisters and brothers-in-law, Imogene and Hugh Ratledge of Church Hill; Mary Lena and Jack Altom, Rogersville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Kay Cooper, Church Hill; Haynes and Juanita Cooper, Surgoinsville; and Robert and Betty Cooper, Surgoinsville; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Calling hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Funeral services will be conducted 8:00 pm Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Lane, Rev. Bill Porter, Rev. Rick Vanoy and Rev. Mike Cutshaw officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 am Thursday at the Bethel cemetery.
Pallbearers will be, Roy Cooper, Haynes Cooper, Robert Cooper, Fayne Cooper, Hugh Dean Ratledge and Kevin Cooper.
Honorary pallbearers will be, Jack Altom, Gale Holt, Boot Armstrong, Kenneth Henderson and Donald Henderson.

Eldridge M. Ladd, 89
Mr. Eldridge M. Ladd, age 89 of 415 West Main st., Church Hill passed away Thursday, April 3, 2003 at the Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital & Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Ladd was a life long resident of Hawkins County ( Church Hill ) and retired from the Tennessee Eastman Company in 1976 with 32 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was of the Christian faith.
He is peceded in death by his parents, James & Lula Mann Ladd. 6 sisters, Elizabeth Ladd, Molly Gibbons, Elsie Grimm, Virgie Christian, Josephene Christian, Cleta Poe. 9 brothers, Dan Ladd, Clint Ladd, Gale Ladd, Ben Ladd, Carson Ladd, Wylie Ladd, S.P. Ladd, John Ladd, one infant brother.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Edith Frazier Ladd of the home, Three sons, Marvin Ladd and wife Doris of Kingsport, Russell Ladd and wife Geneva of Jonesboro and Alan Ladd of the home. 4 Grandsons, Randy Ladd of Nashville, Mitchell Ladd of Knoxville, James Ladd of Kingsport, Andrew Ladd of Kingsport. 2 step-granddaughters, Tammy Clark of Elizabethton and Sherry Hinkle of Jonesboro. 4 step-great grandsons, Josh & Michael Clark of Elizabethton, and Dusty & Stevie Hinkle of Jonesboro. 5 Nieces, Ruby Collier, Mogalene Frazier, Jeraldene Davis, Reba Mottern and Linda Bowlin. 3 nephews. Lack Ladd, Charles Ladd and David Ladd.
Calling hours are from 5:00 to 7:30 pm Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the rersidence.
Funeral services will be conducted 7:30 pm Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Gerhardt and Rev. Edd Anderson Officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted 1:30 pm Sunday at the Church Hill Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be, Randy Ladd, James Ladd, Mitchell Ladd, Andrew Ladd, Jack Ladd and Charles Ladd.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dillard Flannary, Coy Kilbourne, George Seavers, Steven Frazier and Si Frazier.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent to the First Baptist Church of Church Hill Building Fund.

Donald Otis Henry, 67
CHURCH HILL - Donald Otis Henry, 67, of 140 Lyons Road, passed away Thursday (April 3, 2003) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Henry was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired employee of Holston Builders where he was shipping supervisor. He was a veteran of the US Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gaither A. and Neomi Christian Henry, sister, Shirley Anderson and brother Jimmy Henry, nieces, Bobbi Smith and Kimberly Williams.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Donald Lee and Pat Henry, Church Hill; two brothers, Gaither A. Henry, Jr., Kingsport; Randall Keith Henry, Surgoinsville; three sisters, Madeline Morelock, Kingsport; Barbara Williams, Rogersville, and Sharron "Tudy" Henry, Surgoinsville; special little buddy, Jamie Parsons; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Friday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bob Milton and Rev. Jessee Hartgrove officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Valley View cemetery.

Michael Keith Long, 55
CHURCH HILL - Michael Keith Long, 55, of 156 Simpson Road, passed away Tuesday (April 1, 2003) at Wexford House after a short battle with cancer.
Mr. Long was a life long resident of Church Hill and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Church Hill. He was employed by American Plant Maintience as a millwright supervisor. He was a veteran of the US Navy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hobert Long, maternal grandparents, Fayett & Nellie Fletcher and paternal grandparents, Ransy and Elizabeth Long.
He is survived by one daughter, Pamela Susan Long, Kingsport; one son, Michael Keith Long, Jr., Johnson City; his mother, Vivian Long, Church Hill; mother of his children, Donna Long, Kingsport; special friend, Beverly Strickland, Stanton, TN.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the home of his mother, Vivian Long, 202 Jefferson Avenue, Church Hill.
Services will be conducted Thursday at 8 P. M. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Andy Sensabaugh and Dr. Rocky Churchwell officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens.

Onnie S. Nunley, 79
CHURCH HILL - Onnie S. Nunley, 79, of 414 S. Central Avenune, passed away Saturday, (March 29, 2003) at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Nunley was a native of Greene County but had spent most of his adult life in Church Hill. He was a faithful member of McPheeters Bend Baptist Church for over 50 years. He served as deacon, chairman of the deacons, teacher and represented his church on the Executive Board of the Holston Valley Baptist Association. He was a member and Past Master of Clay Masonic Lodge # 386 F & AM, he was Past High Priest of Church Hill Chapter # 238, Royal Arch Masons, a member of the Knoxville Consistory of Scottish Rite Masons, and Past Worthy Patron of Fairview Chapter # 80, Order Of Eastern Star. He was a retired employee of Tennessee Eastman with 42 years service and was a veteran of the US Army serving in World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. W. T. & Effie Salyer Nunley, two brothers, Howard Nunley and Bill Nunley, one sister, Leona Parkerson.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Johnston Nunley, Church Hill; three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Jane and Darryl Castle, Church Hill; Anna Ruth and Benny Francisco, Church Hill; Amy R. and Rev. Patrick Hood, Smyrna, TN; one son and daughter-in-law, LaVern & Patsy Nunley, Church Hill; eight grandchildren, Ashely Zehr, Stacy Nunley, Michael Housewright, Amanda Norris, Seth Hood, Zachary Hood, Justin Castle and Rebecca Rebbert; two great grandchildren, Elijah Zehr and Macklin Zehr; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert L. & Juanita Nunley, Columbus, Ohio; Willis P. & Midge Nunley, Kingsport; Samuel R. and Brenda Nunley, Church Hill; one sister, Margaret Reece, Kingsport; sister-in-law, Nola Carmack and husband, Walt; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Monday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Patrick Hood, Dr. Larry Parrott and the Rev. Mark Roberts officiating.
Graveside services with Masonic Rites conducted by Clay Masonic Lodge # 386 will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens.

CHURCH HILL, TN. - RALPH EMERSON HICKS, AGE 86, OF CARTERS VALLEY RD., CHURCH HILL passed away FRIDAY, MARCH 21, 2003 AT HIS HOME FOLLWOING AN EXTENDED ILLNESS.
MR. HICKS WAS A LIFE LONG RESIDENT OF HAWKINS COUNTY, AND WAS A FARMER AND A RETIRED CARPENTER.MR. HICKS WAS A VETERAN OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY HAVING SERVED IN EUROPE DURING WORLD WAR II.
HE IS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS, ROBERT HOFFMAN & ORTELIA SMITH HICKS, BROTHERS, RUSSELL HICKS, JAMES HICKS. SISTER, ELLA MAE HICKS.

Glen M. Day, 67
CHURCH HILL - Glen Milford Day, 67, of 830 Goshen Valley Road, passed away Thursday (March 14, 2003) at Lee Regional Hospital in Pennington Gap, Virginia follow an apparent heart attack.
Mr. Day was a native of Lee County, Virginia but had spent most of his adult life in Hawkins County. He was a member of Indian Ridge Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Steadman Construction.
He is preceded in death by one son, James Day, granddaughter, Mandy Noel Bailey, his parents, Melvin and Goldie McFarland Day, brother, James Walter Day and sister, Dorothy Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Christian Day, Church Hill, two sons and daughter-in-law, Glen Gerald Day, and Jerry and Bridgett Day, all of Surgoinsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Opal Amanda & Roger Carpenter, Church Hill; three grandchildren, Jessica Day, Dustin Day and Miranda Carpenter; one brother, Jack Garnie Day, Maryland; three sisters, Alpha Omega Larkins, Maryland; Shirley Ann Bentley, White Pine; and Jo Alice Richards, Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.
