CHURCH HILL – Lennie Christian Gray, 87, of Christian Lane, passed away Tuesday (July 20, 2004) at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Gray was a life long resident of Church Hill and was a member of McPheeters Bend Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Gray, her parents, William Baxter and Mary Scism Christian, sisters, Alice Collins, Betty Cavin and Nannie Poe, brothers, Paul Christian, J. R. Christian, W. B. Christian, Jr., and four infant siblings.
She is survived by one son, Stuart C. Gray, Kingsport; three daughters, Carolyn G. Wallen, Church Hill; Sharon G. Baugh, Richmond, Virginia; and Christine G. Waters, Tullahoma, TN; eight grandchildren, Stacy A. Gray, Scott C. Gray, Sonya L. Gray, Kim W. Kelley, J. Craig Wallen, B. Chad Wallen, Heath Waters and Megan Waters; five great grandchildren, Emily Gray, Christian Gray, Jude Kelley, Ashlyn Gray and N. Alexander Gray; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted Thursday at 8:00 P. M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Alvin Skelton officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at McPheeters Bend cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Stacy A. Gray, Scott C. Gray, Craig Wallen, Chad Wallen, Heath Waters and Simon Kelley.
The family request those desiring may make memorials to the American Diabetes Association, 900 E. Hill Ave. Knoxville, TN 37915

Erma M. Price, 79
KINGSPORT - Erma M. Price, 79, passed away Monday (July 19, 2004) at her home following a brief illness.
Mrs. Price was a native of Mohawk, Tennessee and had spent most of her life in Hamblen and Hawkins Counties. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Church Hill where she was a member of the choir and Willing Workers Sunday School Class and served on several committees of the Church. She was a graduate of Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, North Carolina. She was a retired employee of Tennessee Eastman, industrial relations department with 42 years service. She was a member of Fairview Chapter # 80 Order of Eastern Star and had served as Worthy Matron of Bulls Gap Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Curtis Price, her parents, Roy C. and Stella Felton May, two brothers, Charles and James May.
She is survived by two nieces, Teressa Conley and husband, Scott, Clemmons, North Carolina; Betty Shelton and husband, Ted, Birmingham, Alabama; several great nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 P. M. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church of Church Hill and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Ramsey and Dr. Ted Shelton officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Hamblen Memorial Gardens, Morristown, Tennessee.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Price, Gary Price, Bill Shepherd, Scott Conley, Chris Conley, Ken Ashley, B. J. Richardson, Bill Jones, Billy Jones, Brian Roberts and Ward Drennen.
The family request those desiring may make memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church Parking Lot Fund, P. O. Box 307, Church Hill, TN 37642

Eugene Jobe, 73
CHURCH HILL - Eugene Jobe, 73, of Church Hill, passed away Thursday (July 22, 2004) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Jobe was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was of the Holliness faith. Mr. Jobe was a retired roofer having owned and operated Jobe's Roofing Service for many years.
He was proceded in death by his parents, George W. and Mallie Goad Jobe and one brother, Sammy (Buddy) Jobe.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virgie Simpson Jobe, Church Hill; one daughter, Christine Hackler, Church Hill; three grandsons, Brian Ray Housewright, Christopher Wayne Hackler and Joshua Gene Hackler; one great granddaughter, Olivia Mae Housewright; four brothers, Rev. G. W. Jobe, Rogersville; Robert Jobe and Luther Jobe, both of Church Hill; Bobby Jobe, Indianapolis, Indiana; three sisters, Mildred Head, Rogersville; Willie Dee Carlyle, Murfresboro, TN; Charlotte Sealock, Bristol, TN; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Friday at 7:00 P. M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Orville Dolen officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens.

George Timothy Hilliard, 48
JOHNSON CITY - George Timothy Hilliard, 48, passed away Friday (July 23, 2004) at his residence in Johnson City following a brief illness.
Mr. Hilliard was a life long resident of Hawkins, Sullivan and Washington Counties. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Colonial Heights and was a veteran of the US Army.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas C. Hilliard, Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret Taylor Hilliard, Church Hill; one sister and brother-in-law, Teresa "Terry" and Larry Johnson, Kingsport; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas C. Jr. "Buddy" and Janeta Hilliard, Pikeville, Kentucky; two nieces, one nephew, one aunt, Midge Jennings, Merritt, Florida; three uncles, William F. Hilliard, James T. Taylor and John E. Taylor and several cousins.
Calling hours are from 7:00 to 8:30 P. M. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence of his mother, Margaret Hilliard, 215 Grandview Street, Church Hill.
Services will be conducted Sunday at 8:30 P. M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Victor Wallace officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 A. M. at the Cooper cemetery.

ROGERSVILLE – Georgie E. Coffey, 80, of 671 Grassy Creek Road, passed away Sunday (July 25, 2004) at the Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Coffey was a native of Harlan, Kentucky but had spent most of her adult life in Sullivan and Hawkins Counties. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman N. Coffey, her parents, Charlie M. and Flossie Blevins Lazenby, one brother, Everett Lazenby.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Clarence and Shirley Coffey, Rogersville; Charles L. and Rita Coffey and Joseph R. and Ruth Coffey, all of Gray; two daughters and son-in-law, Barbara J. Morefield, Fall Branch; Dorothy L. and Guy Frazier, Blountville; 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 P. M. Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Wayne Baker and Rev. Teddy Webb officiating.

Frank D. Thacker, 63
CHURCH HILL - Frank D. Thacker, 63, of Church Hill, departed this life peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday (July 27, 2004) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Thacker was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was a member of Pink Hill Primitive Baptist Church. He was employed by Hawkins County. Frank sing for several years with the Pink Hill Quartet and then with his family as the Thacker Family Quartet.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bazle and Ella Lena Gross Thacker and one brother, Johnny Lee Thacker.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Hensley Thacker, Church Hill; one step son, Michael Roberts, Church Hill; two brother and sisters-in-law, Quinton and Bessie Thacker, Roy Kyle and Karen Thacker, all of Gate City; one sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Junior Fuller, Kingsport; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Thursday at 8:00 P. M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Scalf, the Rev. Pat Hammond and the Rev. Andy Sensabaugh officiating.

CHURCH HILL - Johnny M. Barnett, 68, of Woodland Lane, passed away Saturday (September 11, 2004) at Wellmont Holson Valley Hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Barnett was a live long resident of Hawkins County and was a retired farmer. John was liked by all who knew him and left behind many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Laura Price Barnett and one step granddaughter, Debbie Derrick.
He is survived by his wife, Alma Derrick Barnett, Church Hill; four step children, Paul T. Derrick, Billy Gene Derrick and Lorraine Hall, all of Church Hill; Elizabeth Crawford, Fall Branch; 10 step grandchildren, Marie Meade, Harold Derrick, Mark Derrick, Donnie Derrick, Stevie Derrick, Ricky Crawford, Marlena Crawford, Marsha Derrick, Lonnie Dykes and Francis Dykes; two brothers, Kenneth Barnett, Church Hill; James Barnett, Columbus, Ohio; three sisters, Minnie Richards, Rogersville; Louise Dean, Gate City; and Ellie Calhoun, Ohio; several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 P. M. at Old Union cemetery with the Rev. Alvin Skelton and the Rev. Kenneth Phillips officiating.
