Danny C. Hensley
Former Oliver Springs resident

Danny C. Hensley, 54, of LaFollette, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Hensley was born Oct. 29, 1946, in Harriman. He lived in Oliver Springs until the age of 12, then moved with his family to  South Carolina.

He later joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the  Vietnam War.

Mr. Hensley was a plant manager for American Processing Co. of Caryville.

He was a member of Frost Bottom Baptist Church.

Mr. Hensley is survived by his parents, Claude Cordell Hensley and Florence Imogene Russell Hensley of LaFollette; his daughter, Denise Pruitt and her husband, Scott, of Strawberry Plains; his son, Kevin C. Hensley and his wife, Melissa, of LaFollette; his grandchildren, Jeremiah Pruitt, Heath Pruitt, Sean Hensley and Joey Hensley; his brother, Bobby Hensley and his wife, Ann, of LaFollette; and his sister, Linda Miller and her husband, Terry, of LaFollette.

The funeral was held Sunday night, Feb. 25, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Tommy Hensley officiating.

A graveside service was to be conducted at 11 this morning, Feb. 26, at Frost Bottom Cemetery.

Kenneth McCarter
Caryville resident

Kenneth McCarter, 91, of Caryville, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Waddell McCarter; his sons, Roger McCarter and his wife, Judy, and James McCarter and his wife, Mona, all of Caryville, Michael McCarter and his wife, Reba, of Lake City and Dewey McCarter of Florida; and his daughters, Alma Johnson and her husband, Jerry, of Vero Beach, Fla., Brenda Dunn of Nancy, Ky., Wanda Wilson and her husband, Scott, of Lincolnton, N.C., and Ann Furr of Norwood, N.C.

He is also survived by his brothers, Gentry Ogle of Seymour, Jahu Ogle of Knoxville and Johnothan Ogle of Sevierville; and his sisters, Ada Stroud and Mae Newcomb, both of Knoxville.

The funeral was held Sunday night, Feb. 25, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. C.H. Baird officiating.

A graveside service was to be held at 11 this morning, Feb. 26, at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Sevierville.

Floyd Marvin Wilkerson
Retired from Lockheed Martin

Floyd Marvin Wilkerson of Knoxville died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville, one day after his 64th birthday.

Mr. Wilkerson was born in Dayton, Tenn., on Feb. 23, 1937, the son of William Wilkerson Sr. and Thelma Springs Wilkerson, both now deceased. He had 15 years of formal education and was a U.S. Army veteran. After his military tour of duty, he worked at the Pikeville Correction Center in Pikeville, Tenn.

He and his wife, Eunice Kincaid Wilkerson, who survives him, were married on June 10, 1967, and the following year the couple moved to Oak Ridge.

Mr. Wilkerson went to work for Union Carbide Nuclear Division in Oak Ridge, and retired from Lockheed Martin Energy Systems in 1995.

He became a member of Oak Valley Baptist Church and served as director of the Worship Committee Ministry. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 354 in Oak Ridge.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Wilkerson is survived by a stepson, James Kincaid and his wife, Margie; his grandchildren, Michael Kincaid of Atlanta, Ga., Yarrick Kincaid and Yamon Kincaid, both of Knoxville, and Stephanie Kincaid of  Washington, D.C.; and his brother, William Wilkerson Jr. and his wife, Jennie, of Great Falls, Mont.

He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Paul White and his wife, Maggie, and Leroy White, all of Oak Ridge, Charles White and his wife, Maxine, of Cleveland, Ohio, and John White and his wife, Earnestine, of Hartwell, Ga.; his sisters-in-law, Fannie Mae Harper and Margurite White; his cousins, Annie Angel of Dayton, Tenn., Lela Freeman and her husband, John, of El Paso,  Texas, Eleanor Nichols and her husband, Calvin, of Louisville, Ky., Connie Lusco and her husband, Eugene, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Sandy Warmack and her husband, Al, of Detroit, Mich.; and by many more cousins, nieces and nephews.

His special friends were the Fort Sanders West Rehabilitation Group and very special friends, the Charles Vanosdale family of Knoxville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by another brother, Nelson Wilkerson, another sister-in-law, Vera White, two other brothers-in-law, Fess Harper and Clifford Harper, and another cousin, Edward Angel.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Oak Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Hardil Thomas officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Building Fund at Oak Valley Baptist Church, 194 Hampton Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Viewing will be after 10 a.m.

Friends may call at Jarnigan & Son Mortuary in Knoxville after noon on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Geneva Bullen Parker
Oak Ridge resident

Geneva Bullen Parker, 79, of Oak Ridge died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

She is survived by her husband, James C. Parker Sr.; her sons, James C. Parker Jr. and his wife, Alice, of Powell, and Jack Alan Parker and his wife, Dana, of Orlando, Fla.; his daughter, Janice Sue Parker Bruggeman and her husband, Burton, of Orlando; and his brothers, Joe Bullen and his wife, Lanette, and Charles Bullen and his wife, Lorelle, all of Oxford, Mich.

A prayer service will be held at 8 tonight, Feb. 26, 2001, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Brian Walls and the Rev. Steve McDonald officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted at noon Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Building Fund at Glenwood Baptist Church, 200 S. Alabama Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the mortuary.

Opal Stooksbury Wallace
Andersonville resident

Opal Stooksbury Wallace, 90, of Andersonville, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Mariner Health of Norris.

Mrs. Wallace was born Sept. 14, 1910, in Union County, the daughter of Isaac and Myrtle Witt Stooksbury, who are deceased.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Andersonville, and was a former Sunday school teacher and member of the church choir.

She and her husband, Walter Wallace, who survives her, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in June 2000.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wallace is survived by her daughter, Dana Cash and her husband, Gene, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; her grandson, Christopher Cash of Fort Lauderdale; her brothers, Conley Stooksbury and his wife, Barbara, and Maurice Stooksbury and his wife, Thelma, all of Norris; her sister-in-law, Laura Robbie Stooksbury of Andersonville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Lennie Stooksbury, and two other brothers, James Stooksbury and Lowell Stooksbury.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at First Baptist Church of Andersonville. The Rev. Terry Moore and the Rev. Charles Hobbs will officiate.

Burial will follow at Andersonville Cemetery.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church, 3949 Andersonville Highway, Andersonville, TN 37705.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Feb. 26, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.

William C. Rhoades
Has area relatives

William C. Rhoades of Largo, Fla., died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Mr. Rhoades was born in Cumberland County and moved to Florida in 1955. He was an engineer and superintendent with construction and engineering companies throughout the South.

He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific and Far East, and was a member of the Air Force Association.

Mr. Rhoades was a member of First Baptist Church in St. Petersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Olene Sharp Rhoades of Harber Bluffs, Largo, Fla.; his sister, Dean Dedmon of Brentwood; and by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Rhoades was the son-in-law of Audrey Sharp and the brother-in-law of Jo and O.H. Sharp and Faye McNabb, all of Oak Ridge, and of Dot Hunter of Nashville.

Bob McNabb of Oak Ridge was considered a special friend.

The funeral will be held at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Derik Hamby officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. CST Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Mayland Baptist Church Cemetery in Mayland, Tenn.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

Kathryn Elizabeth Koontz
Petros Baptist member

Kathryn Elizabeth Koontz, 73, of Petros, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.

Mrs. Koontz was a member of Petros Baptist Church.

She was born Oct. 8, 1927, the daughter of George Manasseh and Eliza Florence Koontz of Petros, who are now deceased.

She is survived by her brother, George Koontz Jr.; and by her nieces and nephews, Terrell Green, Kathy Bacon, Barbara Brittain, Jayne Murphy, George Edward Koontz and William Koontz.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five other sisters and brothers: Irene Koontz Hobbs, Lucille Koontz Tipton, Richard Arnold Koontz, Harvey Carlton Koontz and William Edward Koontz.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Feb. 26, in the chapel of Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg with the Rev. Don Daugherty officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Petros Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
