CHURCH HILL- Jimmy Ray Wallen, 49, passed away Thursday (February 24, 2005) following a brief illness.
Mr. Wallen was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was a mechanic with Trents Auto Repair.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Wallen, grandson, Charles Scott Gillenwater, Jr., brother, Jerry Lee Wallen and grandmother, Addie Barnette Wallen.
He is survived by five daughters, Nowatta Blackburn, Ashley Wallen and Tana Wallen all of Church Hill; Crystal Wallen, Ashland City, TN; Angel Coker, Greer, SC; two sons, Jimmy Ray Wallen, Jr. & fiancee, Nakeshia McDonald, Kingsport; Jimmy Weston Wallen and fiancee, Andrea Lawson, Church Hill;his mother, Willivine Bishop Wallen, Church Hill; mothers of his children, Brenda Wallen, Church Hill; Linda Ball, Church Hill; four grandchildren, Waylon and Alex Blackburn, Kellie and Julie Coker; one brother & sister-in-law, J. B. and Judy Wallen, Claremont, NC; three sisters & brothers-in-law, Brenda and Jack Spears, Wanda and David Simpson, Rita and Tommy Lloyd, all of Church Hill; special friend and caregiver, Cheryl Berry, several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the home of his mother, Willivine Wallen, 370 Hurd Road, Church Hill.
Services will be conducted Saturday at 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Waymon Linkeous officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Jones cemetery.
The family request in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family for funeral expenses.

Nettie Anderson, 90
KINGSPORT - Nettie Jane Anderson, 90, formerly of Surgoinsville, went to sleep in the arms of Jesus, Friday (February 25, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Anderson was born April 5, 1914 to John and Alice DeBord Wade in Wise County, Virginia.
She lived most of her life in Hawkins County and was a member of Oak Dale Baptist Church. She married Lawrence Anderson September 2, 1931. He proceeded her in death in 1988. Other than her parents and husband she was preceded by one son, Roy Anderson and daughter-in-law, Viola Anderson.
She is survived by six sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh and Sue Anderson, Church Hill; Bill and Mary Anderson, Harriman, TN; Joe Anderson, Surgoinsville; Rev. Jerry and Carolyn Anderson, Church Hill; Danny and Ruby Anderson, Kingston, TN; and John Charles and Patricia Anderson, Surgoinsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Louise and John Castle, Gate City; 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the home of her son, Jerry Anderson, 301 Gilda Avenue, Church Hill.
Services will be conducted Sunday at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Pat Hammond and the Rev. Kenny Hammond officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Dale cemetery.

Carlton C. McKinney, 86
KINGSPORT - Carlton C. McKinney, 86, passed away Wednesday (March 2, 2005) at Brookhaven Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Mr. McKinney was a native of Winchester, Tennessee and had lived in the Tri-City area since 1979. He was a member of the Church Of Christ and was a retired employee of Genesco and later working at Phipps Bend and for Food City at Mount Carmel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Jeannie Carlton McKinney, one sister, Ruby McKinney Payne, one brother, Clifford McKinney, grandson, Chad Milam and great grandson, Dusten Weaver.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Willie Mae Tate McKinney, Kingsport; one son and daughter-in-law, Clayton E. and Jewell McKinney, Kingsport; three daughters, Sue Milam and Jan Goforth, both of Kingsport; Kay McKinney Brunswick, GA; five grandchildren, Brian and Brent McKinney, Connie Weaver, Scott Milam and Jeremiah Seals; five great grandchildren, Austen Weaver, Chelsea Burdett, Jeffrey, Amber and Dalton Milam.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home of Church Hill and at the residence, also from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Friday at Whitwell Memorial Funeral Home, Whitwell, TN.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3:00 P.M. at Whitwell Memorial Funeral Home, Whitwell, TN with Rev. Peter Wesson officiating, burial will follow in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.

Carl Hale Smith, 84
CHURCH HILL - Carl Hale Smith, 84, of 825 Goshen Valley Road, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday (March 1, 2005) at the James H. Quillen Veterans Hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. Smith was a life long resident of Church Hill and was a charter member of Indian Ridge Baptist Church. He was a decorated veteran of WW II serving in the European theater. He received a purple heart, combat infantry badge, oak leaf cluster, good conduct medal and a bronze star. He was a member of Clay Masonic Lodge # 386, Charter member of McPheeters Bend Ruritan Club, DAV, American Legion and VFW Post # 9754.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Hale and Alice Long Smith, one brother, Mack H. Smith, sister, Verna Skelton, and son-in-law, Jasper Kern.
He was a devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife, Rozelle Bailey Smith, Church Hill; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Irene Smith, Church Hill, one daughter, Betty Jo Kern, Blountville, three grandchildren, Chuck McLain and wife, Becky, Adrian Smith and wife, Heather, Shawna Smith, one great granddaughter, Carlie Rose McLain.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Thursday at 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ron Grimes officiating.
Graveside services with military honors conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard and Tennesse National Guard will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at McPheeters Bend cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Long, Bill Droke, Jason Skelton, Chad McLain, Doug Benton and Randall Jones.
Honorary bearers will be Haskel Jones, John Snapp, Jr., John Scism and Ray Marshall.

CHURCH HILL - Ralph Cress, 87, passed away Sunday, (March 6, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Cress was a native of Appalachia, Virginia but had made his home in Church Hill since 1971. He was a member of Weber City Church Of God and was a retired miner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Redman Cress, his parents, James and Cassie Sturgill Cress, three brothers, Sam Cress, Isom Cress and Kermit Cress, several sisters.
He is survived by two sons, Dennis Cress, Church Hill; Jack Cress, Richmond, Virginia, one daughter, Janet L. Cress, Hillsville, Virginia; four grandchildren; two brothers, Ben Kress and Vance Kress, both of Kingsport; one sister, Angie Wheeler, Lakeland, Florida; three half brothers, Ted Allen Cress and Terry Van Cress, both of Virginia Beach, VA; Howard Cress, Providence, VA; three half sisters, Lorene Culbertson and Shelia Ruth Way, both of Norfolk, VA; Barbara Cargill, Brookville, IN; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Raymond Hammond officiating. Burial will follow in Church Hill Memory Gardens.

CHURCH HILL - Beulah M. Christian, 89, passed away Sunday (March 6, 2005) at Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Christian was a life long resident of Church Hill and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Christian, one son, Conley Delaine Christian, grand daughter, Natina Ann Christian, her parents, Cornelius and Minnie Boggs Monroe, five brothers, Byrle, Carlyle, Orville, Ralph and Malcolm Monroe, five sisters, Margie Grimn, Kathleen Bradshaw, Gladys Clark, Virgie Taylor and Ora Wolfe.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and McKinley Christian, Church Hill; David and Guila Christian, Warrior, Alabama; one daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Charlie Davis, St. Joseph, MO; daughter-in-law, Judy Christian, Church Hill; twelve grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the home of her son, Donald Christian.
Services will be conducted Wednesday at 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Alvin Skelton and the Rev. Ron Grimes officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Christian family cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Greg Christian, Carlos Christian, Shannon Christian, John Davis, Tony Kilgore, Baine Allman and Mike Hutson.

Clinton G. Hutson, 76
SURGOINSVILLE - Clinton G. Hutson, 76, of 348 Kite Road, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday (November 8, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Mr. Hutson was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was a member of Smyrna Independent Missionary Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of East Tennessee State University Center and was a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Nannie Arnold Hutson, brothers, Ray Hutson, Frank Hutson and Canie Hutson, sister, Lola Lloyd.
He is survived by his wife, Emily Ruby Spitzer Hutson, Surgoinsville; one daughter, Phyliss K. Hutson, Surgoinsville; seven sons and daughters-in-law, Roger C. and Salley Hutson, Steven "Lynn" Hutson, Kingsport; David C. and Gloria Hutson, Church Hill; Charles E. and Debra Hutson, John S. and Brenda Hutson, all of Rogersville; William "Tim" and Sharon Hutson, Blountville and Curtis "Dale" and Janice Hutson, Church Hill; 18 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Bertie and J. S. Arnold, Mary and Carl Arnold, Jr., Sally McDowel, all of Church Hill; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bryan Thurman and the Rev. John Cradic officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at McPheeters Bend Community cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Carter Hunley, Charlie Hunley, Ben Hutson, Billy Hutson, Glen Hutson, Daniel Byrd and Travis Honaker.
Honorary bearers will be Jeff Jenkins and Chris Bruner.
