Louis Lee Cope, 87
MOUNT CARMEL - Louis Lee Cope, 87, of Mount Carmel, passed away Thursday (June 1, 2006) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Cope was a native of Hancock County but had spent most of his life in Hawkins County. He was of the Baptist faith and was a retired employee of the Mead Corporation. He was a veteran of the US Army, World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Price Cope, his parents, Cas and America Jones Cope, three brothers, Lester Cope, Sturm Cope and Earl Cope, three sisters, Hester Cope, Gladys Lawson and Trula Cope.
His is survived by one son, Larry Douglas Price, Kingsport; three grandchildren, Larry Douglas Price, Jr., Dina Maxwell and Lisa Janeway; nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one brother, Claude Cope, Kingsport; one sister, Pauline Phillips, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 P.M. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Friday at 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bill Ball officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Church Hill Memory Gardens.

Pauline Patterson, 85
CHURCH HILL - Mrs. Pauline Patterson, age 85 of 349 River Rd., Church Hill, Tn. passed away Sunday, June 4, 2006 at the residence of her son Jimmy Patterson following an extended illness.
Mrs. Patterson was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was a member of the McPheeters Bend Baptist Church. She was helpful with church functions and also helped with the Church Hill Health Care Nursing home residents.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Daniel Patterson, Son, Jackie Patterson and Daughter, Nell Wanda Patterson. Parents, Charlie & Melissa Bailey Gray. 3 brothers, C.D. Gray, Harvey Gray and Kelly Gray. 3 sisters, Mary Lou Crawford, Lida Bernard and Gertrude Bailey. Daughter-in-law, Linda Patterson,
Survivors include 3 sons, Jimmy & Dorothy Patterson of Church Hill, Harold Patterson of Church Hill and William Carroll & Susan Patterson of Sandusky, Ohio. 8 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Granddaughter. 1 brother, Bill Gray of Church Hill. 1 sister, Elsie McCarroll of Church Hill.
Calling hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence of her son, Jimmy Patterson, 332 River Rd., Church Hill.
Funeral services will be conducted 8:00 pm tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Roberts and Rev. Teddy Webb officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 am Wednesday at the McPheeters Bend cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Grandsons.

Beatrice "Bea" Christian, 74
CHURCH HILL – Beatrice “Bea” Christian, 74, of Church Hill. She passed away on Sunday, (June 11, 2006) at her home with her family at her bedside. Bea had struggled with pancreatic cancer for several months.
Bea and her husband of 57 years, Valmer, lived in Peoria, Illinois for over thirty years before returning to their hometown of Church Hill in 1979. Bea had a great work ethic and enjoyed the business she operated out of her home for the past 28 years, Bea’s Dog Grooming Service. She loved animals and made a home for so many homeless dogs and cats over the years. Bea’s kindness and generosity of spirit will be greatly missed by all who came to know and appreciate her through her business.
She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Church Hill. She loved her church community, and will be fondly remembered by her Helping Hands Sunday School Class and her wonderful teacher and friend, Janet Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hershel and Virginia Blizzard Woods; brother, Mack E. Woods; mother-in-law and father-in-law, A. S. and Mary Jane Derrick; brothers-in-law, Everett “Duck” Derrick, Lyle Christian, Delmas Christian and Bobby Joe Rutledge.
Survivors include her husband, Valmer P. Christian, two great nieces, Chelsie Gregory and Courtney Gregory Simpson, who were raised by Aunt Bea and Uncle Valmer and absolutely adored by both; Courtney and her husband Scott’s children, Taylor, Jordan, Mia; a very special niece, Ellen Lacour; sisters, Helen Rutledge, Ina Danko, Sherry Buxton; brother, John Woods; brothers-in-law, John Danko, Don Buxton, Paul Derrick and Walker Christian; sisters-in-law, Carol Woods, Pauline Christian, Lois Derrick; others for whom “Aunt Bea” was a treasure; nieces, Kathy Flanigan, Robyn Davis, Karen Frohlich, Veronica Vellines, Ericka Bayer, Tina Saad, Tammy Duvendack; nephews, Michael Christian, John Paul Danko, Shane Moulton; great nieces, Blaine Frohlich, Makenzee Frohlich, Sophie Frohlich, Ava Vellines, Amanda Duvendack, Madison Christian, Caroline Christian; great nephews, Christian Lacour, Hunter Davis, Jake Frohlich, Grant Duvendack, Ian Saad; beloved aunts, Julia Francisco and Ruby Gibbons. Bea loved her large family. She leaves many cherished double-first cousins, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Bea will be missed by her two loving dogs, Calvin and Pedro.
The family would like to give special thanks to all the wonderful people who sent cards, flowers and food during Bea’s illness. These acts of kindness were reminders to the family that so many others saw the special qualities in “Aunt Bea” that are treasured and remembered by those whose lives she touched. Thanks to the Hospice First nurses, who had the skill, caring attitude, and faith to help Bea and her caregivers through this difficult time and special thanks to Aunt Frankie Woods for her love and care.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Wednesday at 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ed Anderson officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 A. M. at Elm Springs cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Danko, John Paul Danko, Michael Christian, Don Buxton, Garret Lacour, Tim Woods, Dorman Blizzard, James Blizzard and Ken Frohlich.
Honorary bearers will be O. M. Woods, Claude Woods, Joe Woods, Claude Blizzard Walker Christian and Paul Derrick.
The family request those desiring may make memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church of Church Hill or to the Hawkins County Humane Society.

Billy Christian, 83
MOUNT CARMEL - Billy Christian, 83, of 325 Bay Street, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, (June 11, 2006) at his home following a brief illness.
Mr. Christian was a life long resident of Hawkins County and attended Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of the Mead Corporation and was a veteran of the US Army, World War II.
He was a loving husband, dad, papaw and brother.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Angela England, son-in-law, Jim McLain, his parents, Haskel and Nannie Wolfe Christian; sister, Myrtle Collier and brother, Bob Christian, step mother, Lorraine Christian.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Verdie Lee Robinette Christian, Mount Carmel; one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Carol Christian, Kingsport; four daughters and sons-in-law, Tonie and Keith Arnold, Kingsport; Veronica and David Morton, Church Hill; Yvonne and Doug Wagner, Kingsport; Vicki McLain, Mount Carmel; grandchildren, Penny Henderson and husband, Bryan, Scott Christian, Jim Arnold and wife, Kerry, Jeff England and wife, Lori, Charity Frye and husband, Barry, Todd Wagner, Chris England and wife, Brook, Jimmy McLain, Ryan Wagner and wife, Beth, Kelly Morton, Rodney McLain and wife, Lisa; great grandchildren, Whitney Christian, Matt, Lucas and Jordann Henderson, Kaleb, Devyn and Morgan Arnold, Grayson and Adison England, Julia McLain, Cole England, and great granddaughter to be born in July; several nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Linda Collier for all the love and care given to our dad. Dr. Baumrucker, dad's nurse, Frankie Yankee and Hospice for their care and loving concern for our dad. Thank you to our dear family, friends, and neighbors for their love and prayers during the past four months.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Oak Grove Baptist Church and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Tuesday at 8:00 P.M. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Walter Crouch and Rev. Greer Ruble officiating.
Graveside services with Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Color Guard will be Wednesday at 12:00 Noon at Oak Hill cemetery in the Garden of Everlasting Life.
Pallbearers will be Scott Christian, Jim Arnold, Jeff England, Todd Wagner, Chris England, Jimmy McLain, Ryan Wagner, Kelly Morton, Rodney McLain and Bryan Henderson.
The family request those desiring may make memorial contributions to St. Jude's Hospital.

John W. Roller, 81
CHURCH HILL - John W. Roller, 81, of Church Hill, passed away Wednesday (June 14, 2006) at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. Roller was a native of Scott County, Virginia and had lived in several states before retiring and moving to Church Hill 20 years ago. He was an active member and former deacon of McPheeters Bend Baptist Church. He was retired from Westinghouse.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Herron Roller, two sisters, Dona Roller and Lona Roller, six brothers, Jim Roller, Hughie Roller, Charles Roller, William Roller, Worley Roller and Brownlow Roller.
He is survived by his wife, Rogene Taylor Roller, Church Hill; two daughters, Brenda Kay Culbertson, Church Hill; Johnnie Lee Fowler, California; grandchildren, Leanne Culbertson, Leslie Dobbs, Cindy Salyer, Tom D., Joel and Travis Fowler; 9 great grandchildren; one sister, Pearl Fletcher, Rose Hill, VA; two nieces and 3 nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 P.M. Sunday at McPheeters Bend Baptist Church and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Sunday at 7:00 P.M. at McPheeters Bend Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Roberts and the Rev. Homer Roller officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at McPheeters Bend cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Roberts, Fred Roberts, Jason Dobbs, Troy Salyer, Glen Christian and Tom D. Fowler.

Johnny Lynn Boggs, 51
KINGSPORT: Johnny Lynn Boggs, 51, of 548 Virgil Avenue, passed away Friday, (June 23, 2006) at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Boggs was a life long resident of Kingsport and was a member of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church. He loved the Lord and was the founder of Spoken Word Ministries. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He retired from the Weyhaeuser Company in Kingsport.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Ellen Castell Boggs.
Survivors include his loving wife, Karen Boggs, Kingsport; one son, Johnathan Boggs, Kingsport; his precious little granddaughter, Audrey Boggs; father and step mother, John and Anna Ruth Boggs of Kingsport. two brothers and sisters-in-law, Benny L. and Susanne Boggs, Joe and Christina Boggs, all of Kingsport; one sister, Jean Wallen, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at the Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Kingsport, and anytime at the residence of Wanda Hubbard, 2215 Diana Avenue, Kingsport and also at the residence of his father, John Boggs, 1209 Riverside Avenue, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 8:00 P.M. at the Apostolic Lighthouse Church with Bishop G.D. Peters and Elder Mike Vickers officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at the Lawson Confederate cemetery in Snow Flake, Virginia. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the Johnson Funeral Home of Church Hill at 10:00 AM Tuesday morning.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Boggs, Mike Hass, Bud Pearcy, Will Hubbard, Joe Churchwell, Cliff Franklin, Jr.and John Castle.
Honorary bearers will be co-workers from Weyhaeuser.
Special thanks to the employees and friends of Chuck's Drive-in in Kingsport.
