Jesse Raymond Jones
Jesse Raymond Jones, 54, of Livingston, formerly of Sparta, passed away April 18, 2003, at Vanderbilt Hospital.
Jones was born Aug. 22, 1948, in White County, to Jesse Reed and Demaris England Jones.
He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and had been a truck driver.
Jones was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Mae Wright Jones of Livingston; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Angela and Mitchell Wells and Demaris Hall all of Cookeville and Loretta and Chris Hammock of Livingston; one son, Jesse Reed Jones of Jamestown; four brothers, Otto Jones, Jerry Jones and Jimmy England all of Sparta and Alpha Jones of Michigan; two sisters, Tammy Jones of Michigan and Brenda Jackson of Clark Range; and six grandchildren, Hannah and Hunter Wells, Colby Jesse Raymond Jones, Aspen Jones and Matthew and Heather Hall.
Arrangements: Services will be at 2 p.m., April 21, 2003, at Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Taylor's Providence cemetery. Ovle Tinch will officiate.

Ova Steele Vinson
Ova Steele Vinson, 88, of Sparta, passed away April 19, 2003, at Baptist DeKalb Hospital.
Vinson was born Aug. 4, 1914, in White County, to Ben and Bertha Hicks Steele.
She had been a homemaker.
Vinson was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Phillip Randall Exum; three sisters, Evie Holland, Dovie Griffin, Dolly Holland; and three brothers, Leonard, Ben Thomas and Otis Steele.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Billy Joe Goodwin and Evelyn and Royce Exum, all of Sparta; one son, Jerry and Wanda Vinson of Tullahoma; two sisters, Daisy Stone and Jane Graves both of Sparta; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Chris and Gina Goodwin of Cleveland, Cynthia and Jim Corder, Lisa and Larry Frazier, Marla and Wayne Dodson, Cathy and Lance Brown, Melissa and Eddie Cole and Kim Kirby all of Sparta; Amy and Robbie Burger of Indiana; and Brandy and Daniel Henley of Tullahoma; 16 great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements: Services will be at 2 p.m., April 22, 2003 at Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Peeled Chestnut cemetery. J.R. Nabors and Thomas Davis will officiate.

Helen Margaret Simmons Turner
Helen Margaret Simmons Turner, 72, of New Port Ritchie, Fla., passed away April 17, 2003.
Turner was born June 14, 1930, in Warren County, to Charlie and Louise Simmons.
She was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church and had been a homemaker.
Turner was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Elmer Turner.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Melonie Turner of McMinnville and Phil and Georgeanna Turner of Florida; two daughters, Emma Lou Turner and Teresa Turner both of New Port Ritchie Fla.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Pat Simmons and Wayne and Arla Simmons all of McMinnville; one sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Bill Lusk of McMinnville; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and seven step grandchildren.
Arrangements: Services will be at 2 p.m., April 23, 2003, at Love-Cantrell & Cope Funeral Home with burial in Gardens of Memory cemetery.

Ella Mae Lewis
Ella Mae Lewis, 89, of Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of the Clifty community in White County, passed away April 18, 2003.
Lewis was born Feb. 1, 1914, to Frank Thompson and Lily Mae Lowery Thompson.
She had been a homemaker.
Lewis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sidney R. Lewis; and one son, Sidney Ray Lewis Jr.
Survivors include three daughters, Anna Lewis of Florida, Zana Smith of Indianapolis, Ind. and Mae Bell Dodson of Sterling Heights, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
Arrangements: Services will be at 11 a.m., April 21, 2003, at the chapel of Thurman Funeral Home with burial in Clifty cemetery. Bro. Gary Lewis will officiate.

Don Knowles
Don Knowles, 71, of Akron, Ohio, formerly of Sparta, passed away April 18, 2003.
Knowles was born in White County, to Learner and Nannie Knowles.
Arrangements: Services will be April 21, 2003, at Backer Funeral Home in Akron, Ohio, with burial to follow in Akron.
Thurman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Roy Frank Goodwin
Roy Frank Goodwin, 83, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Sparta, passed away May 30, 2003, in Florida.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Goodwin and Gene Goodwin and his parents, Dallas and Mollie Goodwin.
Goodwin is survived locally by one brother and sister-in-law, Robert "Buddy" and Helen Goodwin, of Sparta.
Arrangements: Services will be at 11 a.m., June 3, 2003, at Town and Country Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial to follow.

Earl K. Brock
Earl K. Brock, 71, of Ridgeland, Miss., passed away May 18, 2003.
Brock was born Nov. 6, 1931, in Sparta.
He was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church. After serving his country for 20 years and retiring from the U.S. Marine Corps, in 1973, Brock worked for 20 years in law enforcement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Willie Brock and Sarah Magdalene Brock and one brother, Alvin Brock.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Brock, of Madison, Miss.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Danny Blanks of Madison, Miss., and Sharon and Lester Holt, of Vicksburg, Miss.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ken and Marlene Sykes, of Ridgeland, Miss., and Thomas Sykes, of Nashville; grandchildren, Shane Mott and wife, Angela, of Bonneville, Miss., Sgt. Stacy Michelle Tolbert, U.S. Army, of Ft. Mead, Md., Cpl. Brain Mott, U.S. Marine Corps and wife Hollie, of North Carolina; one great grandson, Will Matt, of Booneville, Miss.; twos sisters, Willene Dunn and Anna Ruth Prater, both of Sparta; five brothers, Ray Brock of Winchester, Howard Brock, of Georgetown, Del., Lynell Brock, of Oxford, Pa., and Willis Brock and Tony Brock, both of Sparta; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements: Services were at 2 p.m., May 21, 2003, at the chapel of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home, in Ridgeland, Miss., with burial in Natchez Trace Memorial Gardens, in Ridgeland. Dr. Tommy Jarrett officiated.

Irene E. Holman
Irene E. Holman, 74, of Sparta, passed away May 27, 2003.
Holman was born Aug. 14, 1928, in Gross-Winternheim, Germany, to Wilhelm Eckhard and Anna Auguste Wagner Eckhard.
She had been a homemaker.
Holman was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Louise Witschel, Maria Schuhmann, Anna Muller, Emma Klippel and Gretel Andreas; and one brother, Wilhelm Willie Eckhard.
Survivors include her husband, Buford Holman of Sparta; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Clifford and Janice Holman of Sparta and Jurgen Riegel and Helmut Riegel, both of Germany; grandchildren, Cody Holman and Todd Holman both of Sparta, Daniela Baumann and Vanessa Reigel of Germany; one great grandson, Kevin Baumann of Germany; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and cousins and friends.
Arrangements: Services will be at 1 p.m., May 30, 2003, at the chapel of Thurman Funeral Home with burial in Old Bon Air cemetery. Bro. Chad Ramsey will officiate.

Opal Frances Swoape Myers
Opal Frances Swoape Myers, 80, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 14, 2003.
Myers was born July 12, 1923, in Coffee County, to Jessie Gilley Swoape and Hessie Loranza Stacy Swoape.
She was a homemaker.
Myers was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alton L. Myers; daughter, Linda K. Taylor; granddaughter, Rhonda Maan; two sisters, Myrtle Haston and Alva Walker; and two brothers, J.B. Swoape and Cliff Swoape.
Survivors include two daughters Rita F. Baker, of Sparta, and Patsy Mason, of Quebeck; two sisters, Lucy Swack, of McMinnville, and Jessie Ruth Edmonds, of Sparta; one brother, Yancy Swoape, of Muncie, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren
Arrangements: Services were at 11 a.m., Aug. 16, 2003, at the chapel of Thurman Funeral Home with burial in Doyle cemetery. Bro. Bill Welch officiated.

Billy Connell Kell
Billy Connell Kell, 61, passed away Aug. 16, 2003, at River Park Hospital, in McMinnville.
Kell was born May 2, 1942, in Van Buren County, to John B. Kell and Tera M. Johnson.
He had been a factory worker.
Kell was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Brownie B. Kell.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Ramona and Carlon Curtis, of Quebeck; two brothers, L.C. Key, of Doyle, and Wayne Price Kell, of McMinnville; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements: Services will be at 1 p.m., Aug. 18, 2003, at the chapel of High Funeral Home, in McMinnville with burial in Preston Heights cemetery, in Quebeck. Titus Ward and Garvin Haley will officiate.
