Thomas W. Simrell
Thomas W. Simrell, 74, of Walling, passed away Aug. 16, 2003.
Simrell was born Dec. 16, 1928, in Knox County, to Jim Simrell and Esther Winstead Simrell.
He was retired the the U.S. Navy, where he served as a boatman and in security, and the U.S. Air Force, where he served at a crew chief.
Simrell was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include this close companion, Jean Brock, of Sparta, and several cousins.
Arrangements: Graveside services will be at 4 p.m., Aug. 18, 2003, at Springhill cemetery. Bill Morgan will officiate.
Thurman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Harold (Trey) Keane III
Thomas Harold (Trey) Keane III, 16, of Trussville, Ala., passed away Aug. 15, 2003.
Keane was an honor student at Hewitt Trussville High School where he played trumpet in the band. He loved music and his many friends.
Survivors include his parents, Tom and Sharon Keane; one sister, Annabelle; grandparents, Mack Seibers, of Sparta, and the late Ruby Seibers and Tom and Lena Keane, of Pleasant Hill; aunts and uncles, Jack and Renne Farley, of Cookeville, Rick and Dana Dildine, of Sparta, Jim and Cindy Keane, of Arkansas, and Pat Keane and Leslie Keane, both of Minnesota; and several cousins.
Arrangements: Services will be at 2 p.m., Aug. 19, 2003, at Ridout's Trussville Chapel with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East.

Charles Dave Payne
Charles Dave Payne, 79, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 14, 2002, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Payne was born Jan. 26, 1923, in White County, to Charles Houston and Cassie Glasner Payne.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and had been employed at Thomas Industries.
Survivors include his wife, Melvie Mae Simmons Payne of Sparta; two sons, Tony Payne and Kenny Payne of Sparta; one daughter, Judy Sullivan of Sparta; two brothers, Clifford "Buddy" Payne and Bill Payne both of Sparta; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Arrangements: Services will be held at 2 p.m., Dec. 16, 2002, at Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Old Bon Air cemetery. Rev. Jerry Barnwell will officiate.
Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Samuel Perry Drake
Samuel Perry Drake, 73, of Brownsville, passed away Dec. 15, 2
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Perry Drake of Brownsville; one daughter, Laura Cleek of Sparta; one sister, Juanita Haynes of Brownsville; and two brothers, Earnest Drake and William Drake both of Brownsville.
Arrangements: Services will be held at 10 a.m., Dec. 17, 2002, at Brownsville Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Providence cemetery.
Brownsville Funeral Home Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Otis Kelsey
Otis Kelsey, 77, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 13, 2002, at White County Community Hospital.
Kelsey was born April 2, 1925, in White County, to William Amos and Florence Vina Young Kelsey.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a retired farmer.
Kelsey was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Chester Kelsey, Aaron Kelsey and Roy Kelsey; and one sister, Cora Kelsey Brady.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jewell Bumbalough Kelsey of Sparta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Ruthie Kelsey of Sparta and Bob and Jennifer Kelsey of Cookeville; one brother and sister-in-law, Vester and Roberta Kelsey of Warren County; one sister and brother-in-law, Milton Young and Clara Kelsey Young of Sparta; one brother and sister-in-law, Spencer and Reba Young, of Sparta; and grandchildren, Ginger and Jonas Bullington of Gordonsville, Shawn and Dawn Kelsey of Sparta and Jodi Lynn Kelsey and Clay Gibson Kelsey both of Cookeville.
Arrangements: Services will be held at 2 p.m., Dec. 16, 2002, at the chapel of Thurman Funeral Home with burial in Oaklawn cemetery. Bro. Fate Wilson will officiate.

Charles William Dodson
Charles William Dodson, 80, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 12, 2002, at White County Community Hospital.
Dodson was born March 12, 1922, in Kentucky, to Fletcher Dodson and Hazel Etta Miller Dodson.
He served in World War II and had been employed at Cumberland Manufacturing.
Dodson was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Lucille Dodson of Sparta and one daughter and son-in-law, Rachel Louise and John Edward Bennett of Sparta.
Arrangements: Services were held at 2 p.m., Dec. 15, 2002, at the chapel of Thurman Funeral Home with burial in Highland cemetery. Bro. Jim Scott and Bro. Freddie Copeland officiated.

Nina M. Robinson
Nina M. Robinson, 86, of Spencer, passed away Oct. 11, 2002, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Robinson was born Sept. 20, 1916, in White County, to Jim Black and Maude Bohannon Black.
She had been a homemaker.
Robinson was preceded in death by her parents and one son, L.V. Robinson,
Survivors include her husband, Hebron Robinson of Spencer; four children, Ruby Lawson of Fayetteville, Ga., Virginia Selby of Cookeville and Harold Ray Robinson and Terry Robinson both of Spencer; one nephew, Gerald Revis of Anchorage, Alaska; 10 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Arrangements: Graveside services were held at 1 p.m., Oct. 13, 2002, at Oaklawn cemetery. Bro. Thomas Farmer officiated.

Lillie Vanatta Dobbs
Lillie Vanatta Dobbs, 86, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 10, 2002, at White County Community Hospital.
Dobbs was born June 24, 1916, in White County, to Tom Vanatta and Amie Young Vanatta.
She had been a dietary supervisor at a nursing home.
Dobbs was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry Dobbs; one son, Clark Dobbs; four sisters, Bertha Jackson, Sarah Kirby, Melissa Robinson and Nola Slatten; and three brothers, Herman Vanatta, Erby Clark Vanatta and Willie Lee Vanatta.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Doris Dobbs of Texas and Larry and Ruth Dobbs of Kansas; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two sisters, Mildred Kirkpatrick of Sparta and Ella Mae Bain of Walling; and one sister-in-law, Betty Vanatta.
Arrangements: Services will be held at 2 p.m., Oct. 14, 2002, at the chapel of Thurman Funeral Home with burial in Oaklawn cemetery. Bro. Fate Wilson will officiate.

Kimberly D. Woody
Kimberly D. Woody, 33, of Spencer, passed away Oct. 8, 2002, at White County Community Hospital.
Woody was born Nov. 12, 1968, in Sterling Heights, Mich., to William T. Dunaway and Tommy Argo Dunaway.
She attended a Church of Christ and had been a homemaker.
Woody was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband, James D. Woody of Spencer; one son, Trenton Shay Dunaway of Spencer; one step son, Christopher Lynn Woody of Spencer; mother, Tommy Dunaway of Murfreesboro; one half brother, Brain Graig of Murfreesboro; two step brothers, William Dunaway and Robert Dunaway both of Murfreesboro; one half sister, Machelle Bickford of Spencer and Marie Davis and Verena Ballew both of Sparta; grandparents, Howell and Jean Argo of Spencer and Mina Dunaway of Murfreesboro; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Homer and Lemme Woody of Sparta; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arrangements: Services were held at 1 p.m., Oct. 11, 2002, at Love-Cantrell & Cope Spencer Chapel with burial in Walling cemetery. Gene Brock officiated.

Mr. Bernice West
Mr. Bernice West, 91, of Cookeville, passed away Oct. 15, 2002.
West was born Dec. 1, 1910, in Putnam County, to Bertie C. and Notie Winnie Bohannon West.
He attended a Presbyterian Church and had been the trustee of the West cemetery over 30 years.
West was preceded in death by his wife, Emolene Davis West; his parents; three brothers, Alton West, Lillard West and Ralph West; and three sisters, Anna Viola McCaleb, Emogene Daniel and Vera Mae West.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Carlos L. and Mary West of Sparta and Robert F. "Buddy" and Gwen West of Cookeville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Peggy and J.B. Rittenberry, Pat and Woody Raymer and Linda West all of Cookeville; one brother, Benton West of Cookeville two sisters, Venoy Ament of Sparta and Lorelle Goolsby of Cookeville; grandchildren, Teral and Kenneth West, Sarah and Andrea West, Lisa Montgomery, Lisa Randolph, Rebecca Kirby, Christy Vermillion and Mary Beth Rittenberry; and 12 great grandchildren.
Arrangements: Services will be held at 1 p.m., Oct. 17, 2002, at the chapel of Dyer Funeral Home with burial in West cemetery. Dr. Charles McCaskey will officiate.
