Robert Owen Spakes
Robert Owen Spakes, 83, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 10, 2002, at White County Community Hospital.
Spakes was born Nov. 13, 1918, in White County, to Kendrick and Lizzie Hale Spakes.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked 44 years for White County. Spakes was also a member of Sparta Masonic Lodge #99 for 25 years.
Spakes was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jane Maynard Spakes; his parents; one daughter, Judith Elaine Spakes; and one brother, Howard Spakes.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Lynn and Janice Spakes of Sparta and Charles and Debbie Spakes of Doyle; one sister, Sallie Anderson of Doyle; one brother, Bill Spakes of Doyle; two grandsons, Josh Spakes and Jonathan Spakes both of Sparta; one granddaughter, Angie Payne of Acworth, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements: Services were held at 2 p.m., Oct. 12, 2002, at Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Highland cemetery. David Lee England and Fate Wilson officiated.

Luther Humphrey
Luther Humphrey, 94, of Walling, passed away Oct. 14, 2002, at NHC of Sparta.
Humphrey was born March 21, 1908, in White County, to Thomas Humphrey and Katie Bain Humphrey.
He had been employed at White County Highway Department.
Humphrey was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Pauline Humphrey; granddaughter, Monica Johnson; and two brothers, Willie Humphrey and Ernest Humphrey.
Survivor include one daughter, Frances Johnson of Nashville; two sons, Joe Humphrey and James Humphrey both of Walling; brothers and sisters, Charlie Ray Humphrey of Cleveland, Bernice Humphrey, Tula Scott and Elsie Mae Gentle all of Alabama and Mary Lou Adcock of Walling; and three grandchildren, Legina Humphrey, Lisa Ann Allison and Jaime Malone.
Arrangements: Services were held at 1 p.m., Oct. 16, 2002, at Spring Hill Baptist Church with burial in Spring Hill cemetery. Bro. Howard Hooper officiated.

Mark Franklin Moore
Mark Franklin Moore, 38, of Spencer, passed away Oct. 13, 2002.
Moore was born Sept. 9. 1964, in Sumner County, to James Franklin Moore Jr. and Hilda Brock Moore.
He was retired from Moeller.
Moore was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lewis and Verne Brock and Frank Moore.
Survivors include his father, James Franklin Moore Jr. of Spencer; his mother, Hilda Brock Moore of Spencer; one son, Timmy Moore of Spencer; one sister, Rhonda Caldwell of Spencer; one brother and sister-in-law, Stevie and Margie Moore of Spencer; grandmother, Avo Moore of Rock Island; and nieces and nephews, Brian Narramore and Hope Narramore both of Spencer and Jody and Angie Pittman, Andrea Phillips and John Meadows all of Sparta.

Nora Lee Breeding
Nora Lee Breeding, 80, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 15, 2002, at NHC of Sparta.
Breeding was born May 18, 1912, in Putnam County, to Robert Edward Cannon and Mary Avo Mason Cannon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Clennie Breeding; and one son, Joe Breeding.
Survivors include two daughters, Irene Becker of Sparta and Betty Rigsby of McMinnville; three sons, Jerry Breeding of Sparta, William Clennie Breeding Jr. of Rockland and James Breeding of California; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

James M. Johnson
James M. Johnson, 81, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 11, 2002.
Johnson was born March 8, 1921, in Grundy County, to Dewey Johnson and Lucy Adkins Johnson.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy during World War II. Johnson had been a carpenter.
Johnson was preceded in death by his parents and three sons, Larry Johnson, William Nathan Johnson and Bruce Dewayne Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Johnson of Bon Air in White County; one daughter, Vonda Johnson of Bon Air in White County; two sons, James Johnson and R.E. Johnson both of Bon Air in White County; one sister, Loretta Thomas of Dunlap; and three grandchildren, Robert Mitchell Johnson, Kristey Johnson and Nicole Christine Johnson.
Arrangements: Services were held at 2:30 p.m., Oct. 13, 2002, at Camp Heights Free Will Baptist Church with burial in the Eastland community, with full military honors. Bro. Dillard Johnson officiated.

Jewell Hyder, 89, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 15, 2002, at NHC of Sparta.
Hyder was born Dec. 22, 1912, in White County, to Lloyd and Martha Lack.
She was a retired factory worker.
Hyder was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Davis; one daughter, Jean Hale; and one son, Dillard Davis.
Survivors include five daughters, Blanche Roberts, Anna Bell Winnett, Ruby Howell, Marie Roberts and Reba Blanton all of Sparta; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Lack of Albion, Mich.; and one sister, Della Lack of Sparta.

Billie Ruth (Ma Bill) Crawford McBride, 71, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 5, 2002, at White County Community Hospital.
McBride was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Cumberland County, to Albert and Josie Scott Crawford.
She had been a homemaker.
McBride was preceded in death by one son, William David McBride and her parents.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Bonnie Spivey of Quebeck and Michelle and Steve Welch of Doyle; one brother, Joe Crawford of Sparta; one sister, Christine Johnson of Sparta; six grandchildren, Gary and Lisa Baker, Jennifer Dickerson, Miranda and Troy Lawson, Jason Spivey, Jamie Spivey and James Saylors; 11 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and the mother of many.

Walter Earnest Hunter, 91, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 4, 2002, at White County Community Hospital.
Hunter was born Feb. 25, 1911, in Putnam County, to Alvin Crockett and Effie West Hunter.
He had been a truck driver.
Hunter was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Frances Stockton Hunter.
Survivors include one son, Carl Hunter of Sparta; one daughter, Joyce Looney of Sparta; one brother, Herchel Hunter of Sparta; one sister, Bertha Kelly of Ohio; seven grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

Linda Fay Dyer George
Linda Fay Dyer George, 60, of Quebeck, passed away Aug. 5, 2002, at Alive Hospice in Nashville.
George was born Nov. 29, 1941, in Warren County, to Jessie Eugene Boyd and Dola Argo Boyd.
She attended the Church of Christ and had been a housewife.
Survivors include her mother, Dola Argo Boyd of Quebeck; father, Jessie Eugene Boyd of Quebeck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Kathy and Jeff Swallows of Quebeck and Teresa and Rodney Pelham of McMinnville; three grandchildren, Stephen Swallows, Dakota Swallows and Cody Bottoms; special friends, Kenny Denise bottoms and Kim Rigsby; and several aunts, one uncle and cousins.
