J.H. FARRIS, 54, died at 12:35 a.m. Thursday at his home in Tennessee Colony after an illness of several days.

Funeral services were held Thursday at 3 p.m. at the home with DR. E. H. Wylie, pastor of the First Christian Church officiating, Burial at the Tennessee Colony Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Vera (Tucker) Daughters, Mrs. Mary E. Stovall of Daisetta, Misses Inez, Essie, Lorie?, Marrine, and Clara Farris; Two sons, J.H. Farris, JR. and Tucker Royal Farris.

January 2, 1936

Miss Winona Effie BLACK, 65, died suddenly at the home of a sister, Mrs. J.V. Boyer, 217 West Palestine Ave. after a short illness.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from the sister's home....Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery. The local chapter of Eastern Star will have charge of service at graveside.....
(Next day paper said her survivors were: Two sisters, Mrs. Boyer, and Mrs. J. D. Tobin of Portland, OR.

William J. TEAMER, son of the late George W. Teamer of Palestine, died in Houston Sunday at 3 p.m.....
Funeral service were held in Houston at 10 a.m. Monday.....

BUFFALO WOMAN DIES AFTER SHORT ILLNES
January 8, 1936

Mrs. J. F. WILLIAMS, 56, of nearby Buffalo died at 2 a.m. Thursday at her home after a short illness.

Funeral service were held Thursday at Haskins Cemetery.

Survivors are her husband, two daughters and a son.

Frank CAMPER
January 9, 1936

Frank S. CAMPER, 63, sheet metal worker in the IGN Mechanical Dept. for almost 25 years, died at 2:15 a.m. Thursday in Missouri Pacific Hospital, after a short illness....

Funeral service were planed for 4 p.m. Thursday from the South Hassell Funeral Home with Christian Science Readers in charge. The local Order of Odd Fellows were in charge of service at the grave side in New Addition Cemetery.

Mr. Camper was a native of Roanoke, VA. And came to Palestine about 30 years ago, working in the IGN shops...

Survivors include his wife, one son, Archie Camper, who is in the U.S. Navy at San Diego, Calif. And a son-in-law.

R.F. HOPPER, 52, of Neches dies of pneumonia today. Monday following an attack of pneumonia, He was the native of Anderson county and had lived in the Neches Community almost all his life.

Funeral arrangements are being held up, pending word from relatives in Calif.

He is survived by his wife, three sons, Robert JR. of Lodi, Calif., Charles & Dicky Hopper of Neches; Three daughters, Mrs. Dorthea Leach of Neches Mts. Mary Louise Cox of Lodi, Calif. and Miss Margaret Hopper of Neches; One sister, Mrs. Henry Keys of Crandall and 2 grandchildren...

Mrs. W.L. SCHUH, 32, well known local young woman died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Speegle Dupuy Hospital from complications resulting from a molar infection.....

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church.....Burial will be in New Addition Cemetery.

Survivors are her husband, owner of the Avenue Fruit Store; One daughter, Edith Marie Schun age 11; Mother, Mrs. Albert Hassell of Palestine; Two brothers, Granville and C-------Hassell of Palestine; Five sisters, Miss Mae Hassell of Corsicana, Mrs. V.E. Dietz of Baytown, Miss Grace Hassell of Houston, Misses Flossie & Cassie Hassell of Palestine.

FATHER OF LOCAL MAN BURIED IN HOUSTON COUNTY
January 15, 1936

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Livelyville Cemetery in Houston County for Green Franklin CRAWFORD, father of Jesse Crawford, Palestine barber, who died suddenly early Tuesday morning at the home of a son near Jacksonville. Death was attributed to a heart attack....Mr. Crawford was well known in the Slocum and Grapeland Communities. He os survived by seven sons, Jim & G.A. Crawford of Grapeland, Tom Crawford of Rotas, Jesse Crawford of Palestine and Frank Crawford of near Jacksonville; Three daughters, Miss Baella Crawford of Huntington, Mrs. Jolly Garrett of Dallas and Mrs. Victoria McCardy of Mesquite.

DIES IN HOUSTON HOSPITAL
Jan. 16, 1936

Mrs. Margaret HAMMER, wife of Sam Hammer, Missouri Pacific Trainmaster here, died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday in a Houston hospital. The remains will be shipped to Palestine and were scheduled to arrive at 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held from the residence at 804 Park Ave. Friday... The body will be shipped to Carbondale, ? for Burial.

D .M. KARN, 78, veteran employee of the bridge and building department of the IGN Railroad, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at his home 310 West Gooch Street.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Richey Temple....Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Karn, a native of Woodstock, Ontario, came to Palestine in 1900, immediately after the Galveston flood had wrecked the city.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Karn; Two sons, W. R. Karn and D. D. Karn of Houston; One daughter, Mrs. F.P. Balling--?; One brother, Jake Karn of Woodstock, Onterio; Three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson and Mrs. Charles Wilson, both of Los Angeles.

J.E. HOKE, 74, died at 7:50 p.m. Saturday at his home on Oakwood after a short illness.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the First Methodist Church in Oakwood....Burial in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Malinda SHAID, 78, native of Anderson County, died at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday at her home at Fields Chapel where she lived all her life.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday from her home....

Mrs. Shaid's husband died at Fields Chapek 16 months ago. She is survived by one son, Coy Shaid, former Anderson County deputy sheriff and jailer; Three daughters, Mrs. Joe Meyer of Palestine, Mrs. Pink Gibson and Mrs. H.P. Hassell; Eight grandchildren and six great-great Grandchildren....

January 28, 1936

Tom J. KENNEDY, 62, died suddenly at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at his home at 201 Fort Street.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon from the home of a son, R.T. Kennedy....
Survivors are his wife; Four sons, M.C. and R.T. Kennedy of Palestine, Clyde Kennedy of Conroe, and V.T. Kennedy of Tyler; Three daughters, Miss Lola Kennedy, Miss Marietta Kennedy and Mrs. Mollard Kennedy of Cleveland, OH; Two brothers, R .M. Kennedy of Palestine and J. A. Kennedy of Mount Selman; Two sisters, Mrs. Alice Morton, Palestine and another sister residing in Falls County....
( Next day's paper reported burial was in Crawford cemetery .)

January 29, 1936

Frances HOREMAN, 6, died in a Houston hospital at 10:55 p.m. Manday after an illness of three and a half months.

Survivors include her parents, Mr. & Mrs. A.P. Hortman of Houston; grandparents, Mrs. W. W. Hortman of Houston and mr & Mrs. F.V. Saxton of Palestine....

The remains arrived in Palestine at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday. Funeral service were held at Richey Temple at 2 p.m. Wednesday with burial in a local cemetery ....

BRITTON KINNEBREW
BRUSHY CREEK YOUTH SUCCUMBS TO MENINGITIS
January 30, 1936

Britton KINNEBREW, age 9, son of Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Kinnebrew of Brushy Creek died at 2 a.m. Thursday, following a 2 week attack of meningitis.
Doctors who examined the child Wednesday said his aliment was not and was not of the epidemic type.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Brush Creek.....
Survivors are his parents and two brothers, Bobby Kinnebrew, age 2 and Gerald Wray Kennebrew, age 8.

J.E. COPELAND
February 3, 1936

Funeral rites were held Sunday afternoon for James E. COPELAND, 55, local jeweler for IGN watch inspector and beloved resident of Palestine for 35 years, who died suddenly from a heart attack Saturday in a Crockett hospital.

Brief services were held at 3:45 p.m. from the home, 201 East Kolstad Street, with final services following at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.... Burial was in East Hill Cemetery.

Hundreds of Friends paid respects to the memory of one of the Southwest's best known business men. Truck loads of floral offerings banked the grave.

Mr. Copeland came to Palestine from Marshall, where his father was in the Jewelry business.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. James Lee Billberry of Barstow and Mrs. Francis Donahue of Corsicana ; Three (SIC) daughters, Mrs. Charles Cobb and Mrs Fred Wilson of Marshall and Mrs Alex McAllister of Houston.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Bailey Funeral home for Glenn WRIGHT, 70, who died at 2:05 a.m. Sunday at his home on the Elkhart Highway.....Burial in New Addition Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, one brother, Bob Wright of Palestine; Three sisters, Mrs. ..? Wright Jones of Washington D.C., Mrs. Maggie Stuart of Bryan and Mrs. Frances Matthews of Palestine....

JOHN T. HENLEY
OLD MASON DIES IN PARIS, TEXAS
4 February 1936

Paris, TX: Death of John T. HENLEY, removed from the Masonic Order one of its oldest members in Texas. The Civil War Veteran and former treasure of Lanier County, died yesterday. He would have been 99 on March 16. He had been a Mason since 24 April 1858.

Funeral services were arranged for this afternoon with Masonic lodge in charge and the Knights Templar as escort of Honor.

A TRIBUTE
February 4, 1936

In the passing of Mrs. ROYALL, Palestine lost an outstanding citizen, until the last three years....ill health, her home had been known as the house of hospitality and a home of happiness that three generations have enjoyed.....

It was at the Royall home that the Palestine Public Library started with a reception by Mr. & Mrs. Royall, the card of.... being a book. They were stored in the home until the city gave.... in the City Hall to be used as a library....has grown to the present library....

William T. McDonald, 69, died at 8 p.m. Tuesday at his home in Elkhart after a short illness. Funeral services will be held Thursday at the Methodist Church in Elkhart...

Survivors include 2 sons, Willis McDonald of Bethlehem, GA. and Alvin McDonald of Elkhart; Seven daughter, Misses Andi..?, Linnie Grace 7 Allie McDonald, all of Elkhart, Mrs. D....Lynch of Bethlehem, GA. and Mrs. W.E. Taylor of Winnfield, AL.

J.E. SHIELDS, 63, long-time resident of Neches, died at 1 a.m. Wednesday at his home following a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Valley Baptist Church of Neches....

Mr. Shields had lived in Neches nearly all his life. He is survived by his wife; Five sons, Chester Shields of Paris, TX. E.L. Shields, Johnson Shields, Jack shields, and Mike Shields, all of Neches; One daughter, Miss Bonnie Shields of Palestine; One sister, Mrs. J.W. Hefner....

COUNTRY FARMER DIES FOLLOWING AN INFECTION
February 10, 1936

T.J. PIERCE, 62, farmer of the Liberty Community on Northern Anderson County, died at 6 a.m. Sunday at his home from complications of a shoulder infection.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Mr. Willford of Athens and the Rev. Mr. Calvin Nelson, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Palestine, officiating. Burial will be in Liberty cemetery .

Survivors are his wife and 15 children.

FUNERALS TO BE HELD FOR MARFA YOUTHS DROWNED
Feb 10, 1936

Mexia, TX: Funeral services were arranged today for 3 youths who lost their lives in a lake near here.

The victims were: Donald NICCOLLS, 19, R.L. STILES, JR. 15, and Leroy CLEVELAND, 15....

The bodies were found within fifty feet of each other, about 100 feet from the point at which the over turned boat was discovered.

Funeral service were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Fergarson Cemetery, six miles Southeast of Palestine off the New Boston Road....

Mrs. Huddleston is survived by 3 brothers, John, Jim & George Worley, all of Palestine....
