J. C. "Jake" Sullivan
Born: 04/04/1923
Death: 11/21/2009
J.C. "Jake" Sullivan beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away in San Marcos, Texas at the age of 86. He was born April 4, 1923 in San Saba, Texas to Joseph Claberon "Clabe" and Emily Elizabeth (McCall) Sullivan.
Jake graduated from San Marcos High School and enrolled in Southwest Texas State Teacher's College. However, after two years he joined the U.S. Marines. He served in the 4th Marine Division and saw extensive combat in the Marshall Islands before he was severely wounded by a sniper's bullet at Saipan on July 1, 1944. After a 10 month stay in the Naval Hospital in San Diego, he was medically discharged in May 1945, having received the Purple Heart. He went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in 1945 and was appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson as Postmaster in 1967. Jake retired in 1984 after 39 years of service.
Jake has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 63 years, serving as both elder and deacon. He has served his community by working with the San Marcos Volunteer Fire Dept., coaching little league and serving as Chairman of United Way. Jake was also very active in the SWT Bobcat Club, enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels and shelling pecans for his family. He also loved hunting, fishing, camping, spending time with his family and friends, and making the best fudge in the world.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Hudson Bales.
Jake is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patty Sherrill Sullivan; his son, Joseph Claberon "Clay" Sullivan III and wife, Carol; sister, Anne Mae Glimp of Burnet; two grandchildren, Seth Claberon Sullivan and wife, Melissa of San Antonio and Lindsey Sullivan Keller and husband, Joshua of Reading, PA; two great-grandchildren, Emily Ann and Grant Claberon Sullivan; sister-in-law, Dorothy Toler and husband, Al of Bryan and brother-in-law Horace Sherrill and wife, Nona of Corpus Christi.
Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday, November 23, 2009 at Pennington Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 24 at the First Presbyterian Church. A private burial will be held at the San Marcos City Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jake's name to the First Presbyterian Church, 410 W. Hutchison, San Marcos, TX 78666 or the CTMC Hospice, 1315 IH 35 North, San Marcos, TX 78666.

Lydia V. Villalpando
Born: 08/02/1936
Death: 11/22/2009
Lydia V. Villalpando of San Marcos, TX, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2009, in Austin, TX, at the age of 73. She was born August 2, 1936, in Fentress, TX, to Dario and Natividad (Arzola) Vasquez.
Lydia loved her family, adored her grandchildren and had the special gift of making her children laugh. She loved music and worked for The Community Action Agency for 20 years.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Eduardo Villalpando, Sr. who will dearly miss his beloved wife; sons, Edward Villalpando, Jr. and wife, Sally of San Marcos, Ruben Villalpando of Maxwell, Daniel Villalpando and wife, Mary of Buda, Mario Villalpando and wife, Josie of Rogers, Arkansas, Michael Villalpando, Sr. and wife, Sylvia of Martindale, and Carlos Villalpando and wife, Donna of Martindale; daughters, Nelda Ann Villalpando of San Antonio and Gloria Villalpando of Alice; brothers, Juan Vasquez and wife, Ginger of Copperas Cove; sisters, Linda Urrutia and husband, Jesus of Lubbock, and Amparo Hidrogo of San Marcos; 15 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Family wishes to extend grateful thanks to the staff of Heart Hospital of Austin, and a special thank you to Fresenius Medical Center, Pam Garcia and staff; and Dr. Grimm, Dr. Julia Symon, Dr. Godlewski; and many other caregivers, for their kindness and dedicated care of Mrs. Villalpando.
Visitation from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 P.M., on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 in the Pennington Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at St. John's Catholic Church in San Marcos, with Rev. Enrique Diaz, Officiant. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale.

Channing Newton Williams
Born: 03/02/1935
Death: 11/25/2009
Channing Newton Williams, 74, died November 25, 2009, at home of Alzheimer's, surrounded by loved ones. He lived a wonderful life, fought hard in the end, and is now resting peacefully.
A memorial will be held in his honor at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5 at Oakwood Baptist Church, 2154 Loop 337 N., New Braunfels, TX.
Channing, known to many as Captain, was born March 2, 1935, in San Marcos, TX to Jack & Mina Williams. He graduated from SMHS and proceeded to attend and graduate from TX A&M in 1957. While attending TX A&M he played basketball and served in the corp. Later he served in the US Army.
For many years Channing lived in Houston and worked for Stewart and Stevenson. Later he transferred to San Antonio and made New Braunfels, TX his home. He retired from S&S in 1995. While working at S&S he made many lifelong, cherished friends. He made a significant impact on many of his coworkers and business associates.
Captain was an avid outdoorsman, and he loved his animals as deeply as he loved his "people." Channing's heart was big and strong as were his hugs, and he was generous with both. He was a blessing to all who knew him. He was well loved and will be sorely missed by many.
Channing is survived by his beloved wife of 15 years, June Williams, brother, Jack Williams; his children and their families, sister, Charlotte Nelson; her children and their families, his adopted son, Salvador Hernandez-Williams and wife, Luli and their children, Adriana and Regina Hernandez, stepson, Les Ezell and wife, Anna and their children, Shanna Hill and Glenn McNair, stepson, Wack Ezell and his children, Jessica, Jacob, and Avery Ezell, stepson, Lee Ezell and wife, Jamie and children, Jarrett Ezell and his wife, Kortni, and Hunter Ezell, and stepdaughter, Lesa Ezell and her children, Kandice, Keslie, and Kaylea Box, and numerous cherished friends.
Channing is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Peggy, his daughter, Kendall, his son, Chan, Jr.

Paula J. Grouette
Born: 07/31/1953
Death: 11/28/2009
Paula J. Grouette beloved mother and grandma of San Marcos passed away at her home at the age of 56 surrounded by her family. She was born July 31, 1953 in Mason City Iowa to Richard E. and Evelyn (Kobernusz) Clausen.
Paula graduated from Mason City High School in 1971 and married the love of her life, George Grouette Jr. in her hometown in 1972. Her husband, being in the military, traveled to many places and she and their children went with them. She was a stay at home mom for many years raising her children but also volunteered her time to help others, but made sure to put family and friends first.
After her husband retired in 1992, they moved to San Marcos and she began her career at the IRS in Austin as a Data Transcriber. Paula also began collecting porcelain dolls as a hobby that soon blossomed into an enjoyment of traveling to shows in Texas to increase her collection.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her son, Michael George Grouette (2001) and her sister, Renee A. Lohr.
Paula is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, George Grouette Jr.; her son, Jeremy Grouette and wife, Alex; daughter, Krystal R. Grouette both of San Marcos; her brother Kevin E. Clausen and wife, Deanna of Mason City, Iowa; 2 grandchildren, Michael James Austin Grouette of McKenzie, TN and Brandon Grouette of San Marcos and several nieces and nephews.
In memory of Paula, memorial donations may be made the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 472, San Marcos, TX 78667.
Family will receive friends 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Pennington Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Pennington Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Ray presiding. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale, Texas.

Chester V. Jones, age 79, passed away in Austin, TX, on Tuesday,

John A. Anderson
Born: 11/16/1921
Death: 12/03/2009
John A. Anderson passed away Thursday December 3, 2009 at the age of 88. He was born to Glen E. Anderson and Addie May Gilmore Anderson in Coshocton, Ohio, November 16, 1921. He graduated from Keene High School in Keene, Ohio in 1940.
He was drafted into service October of 1942 where he served in the United States Air Force as a pilot. He served in the South Pacific and later trained pilots to fly T-6s.
He was married to Mary E. Watson of Denison, Texas on September 30, 1944 in Dallas, Texas. Upon completing his tour of duty he served as a civilian pilot instructor until 1960. He and Mary then moved to San Marcos, Texas with their two daughters in January of 1961.
John started the first State Farm Insurance Agency in San Marcos. He became known as "Mr. State Farm" and Mr. "San Marcos". He was in the Millionaire Club and the Legion of Honor for State Farm Insurance.
John was very involved in the community as Chairperson of the Airport Commission and worked with the Regional Airport Development Council. He was a past president of the Lion's Club, past director of the Chamber of Commerce, and past member of the Industrial Development Committee. He was also involved with the Camp Gary Community Relations Council and was an Advisor to the Confederate Air Force.
He loved his family and he is survived by two daughters Lynn Hageman of Austin, Texas and Tammy Greenbauer of San Antonio, Texas, four grandsons Ryan Hageman, Matthew Hageman, Zack Greenbauer and Hayden Greenbauer and son-in-laws Robert Hageman and Scott Greenbauer.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend and a gift to us all.
Visitation will be at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, December 6, 2009, followed by Funeral Services at 2:00 P.M., on Sunday, at the First United Methodist Church in San Marcos, with the Rev. Dr. Jenna Heart officiating. Graveside Services will follow on Monday, December 7, 2009, at 2:00 P.M., at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman, Texas.

Robert Parker Buckner

Death: 12/04/2009
Robert Parker Buckner , 74, died Friday, December 4, 2009, at University Hospital, San Antonio, Texas.
Bobby, or Sam as many knew him, was born in Dermott, Arkansas, on February 2, 1935. He grew up in Wimberley, Texas and graduated from San Marcos High School in 1954. He attended Wimberley First Baptist Church as a child and was baptized in the Blanco River at a young age. After serving his country in the US Army as a Military Police, he returned home to Texas and was accepted to the Texas Department of Public Safety Recruit Training School in Austin, graduating November 17, 1959. He remained a Texas State Trooper for 32 years.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda Lester Buckner , his step-daughter Jesslyn Lefler and son-in-law Randy Lefler of Canyon Lake, his step-son John Cargile and daughter-in-law Tiffany Cargile, of Spring Branch, and his daughter Jennifer Bolton and son-in-law Mark Bolton, also of Spring Branch. He was beloved Grandpa to eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Church in the Valley, Canyon Lake, Texas at 11:00am. Donations may be made in Bobby's name to the Cal Farley's Boys Ranch and Girlstown, USA, P.O. Joyce E. Wallace

Joyce E. Wallace of San Marcos, TX, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away in Austin, TX, on Sunday, December 27, 2009, at the age of 78. She was born in Keys, OK, on November 19, 1931, to Lilburn Burns and Clarice (Gunter) McCrea.
Joyce was a talented artist. She was a member of the First Christian Church since 1969 and she was a member of the "The Red Hatters".
Her parents, her husband, Frank Wallace (1989), son, John Frank Wallace, III, daughter, Victoria Elaine Wallace, and granddaughter, Cheri McEachern preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Troy Wallace and wife, Kathy of San Marcos; daughter, Joyce McEachern and husband, Harold of Dripping Springs; sister, Marcella Cook of Chickasha, OK; four grandchildren, Austin and Tanner Wallace, and John McEachern and wife, Karey; and three great-grandchildren, Corbyn, Hunter and Lannie McEachern.
Family will receive friends at Pennington Funeral Home, 5:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 30, 2009. Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. , Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the First Christian Church in San Marcos, with the Rev. Dr. Mark Miller officiating. Charlene Pearl Nave Dorman

Charlene Pearl Nave Dorman of Kyle, Texas, passed away on Friday,
October 9, 2009. Charlene was born October 5, 1912 in LaGrange, TX, to Charles Samuel Nave and Agnes Goldhammer Nave.
Charlene was one of those Texas frontier ladies of the 1940's who raised a family and volunteered to bring education, culture, and art into the community. Charlene was also an avid Kyle Panther fan. She assisted in securing the first public library in Kyle. She was a charter member of the Kyle Garden Club, a member of First Baptist Church, and served as president of the Heritage Association during Kyle, Texas' Birthday Celebration. She was a teacher at the Brown Schools in San Marcos. Charlene was very artistic and enjoyed being a member of the "China Painting Ladies" and the "Out-to-Lunch Bunch".
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Max Henry Nave, her husband, Charles Owen Dorman, and her youngest son, Michael Rodney Dorman. She is survived by her sons, Owen Dale Dorman and wife, Dana of Wimberley, Patrick Wayne Dorman of Lampasas, and Kenneth Randale Dorman, M.D. and wife, Dianna of Austin. She is also survived by her daughter, J'Frances Kyle Nations and husband, Robert of Kyle; and sister-in-law, Alma Nave of Austin. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, her pride and joy. She was a grandmother, teacher, party giver, costume maker, and counselor to Deidre Dorman, David Dorman, Michael Dorman and wife, Tara, Kia Dorman, Rachel Urban and husband, Lance, Chris Dorman, Dianna Dorman, Thad Nations and wife, Erika, and Jason Nations and wife, Katie. She was delighted by six great-grandchildren, Zachary and Braden Nations, Zachary Dorman, Merrie Paige, Anna, and Heath Urban.
Family will receive friends at Pennington Funeral Home, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, October 11, 2009. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 12, 2009, in the Pennington Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Bruce Barton and the Rev. Dennis Koger officiating. Interment will follow at the Kyle Cemetery.
