EARL W. NORRIS

Earl W. Norris, 85, of Tarpley, TX, died Sunday, July 27, 2003 at his residence.

He was born May 26, 1917 in Highlands to William Benjamin and Sarah Elizabeth Vickery Norris. Mr. Norris worked for many years in the oil industry as a pipe fitter and served in the C-Bees during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Tommie of Tarpley; daughter, Glenda and husband Robert Gibson, sons, Tim and wife Kim of Tarpley; James and wife Phyllis of Mountain Home, TX; sisters, Pet Franssen of Mont Belvieu; Ethel Lee Hargraves and five grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at Tarpley Cemetery with Chaplain Laura Lightner officiating.

THOMAS O. TAYLOR

Thomas O. Taylor, 58, of Crosby, passed away, Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at L.B.J. Hospital in Houston. Services are pending at Earthman Funeral Home, Baytown, 281-422-8181.

MATELYN SHELTON

Matelyn Shelton, 88, passed from this world, surrounded by friends and family on July 27, 2003.

She was born Matelyn Louise Owen on September 25, 1914 in Henderson County, Texas. On June 18, 1932 she married William T. “Bill” Shelton, her childhood sweetheart. Matelyn or “Mag” as many friends called her was a longtime resident of several Texas Communities, including Rockdale, Fairfield and Highlands, where she and Bill spent the last 25 years. Matelyn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Highlands, and until recently, a frequent participant in Senior Activities at the Highlands Community Center. A devout Christian, Matelyn is remembered for her strong faith in Jesus Christ. Her feelings for the Lord were matched only by her love for Bill, her husband of 71 years. Matelyn was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time in the garden or hothouse, especially tending to her favorite plant, the African Violet. She was a wonderful cook who lovingly prepared pies and cakes for her friends and family. Her home was always warm and inviting, especially around the holiday, it was a place where you could take your shoes off and “sit a spell.” As befitting a mother, grandmother and a great-grandmother, Matelyn was kind, patient and strong. She also had a terrific sense of humor.

Matelyn was preceded in death by her parents, several siblings, and her beautiful son, Thomas Eddie, who passed away at the tender age of two.

She is survived by her loving husband, Bill Shelton, daughters and sons-in-law, June Fikes, Billye Smitherman and her husband C.C., Nicki Hirt and her husband Jim, Matelyn is also survived by her grandchildren, Barry Smitherman and his wife Marijane, Leslie Rutherford and her husband Jeff, Lynn Gibson and her husband Steve, C.J. Hirt, Sherri Pratt, Terri Sutton and her husband Matt and William Pratt. Her great-grandchildren include Jake Rutherford, Colton Rutherford, Shelton Smitherman, Wyatt Smitherman, Owen Smitherman, Louisa Smitherman, Meredith Gibson, Max Gibson, Jessica Fink and Eric Fink.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. today, July 29, 2003 at Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Rd., Baytown.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at First Baptist Church of Highlands on North Magnolia at Wallisville with Rev. Tim Edwards and Rev. Danny Bezet officiating.

Interment will follow at Earthman Memory Gardens, Baytown.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff and their wonderful friends at Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Baytown where Matelyn spent the last 2 years and where Bill is a well-loved resident. Your love and tender care are greatly appreciated. We would also like to thank Odyssey Hospice, whose quiet kindness smoothed Matelyn’s path from Earth to Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Bus Ministry of Victory Baptist Church of Baytown.

Family will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Travis Ford and Matt Sutton.

HERMELINDA LOURDES DELGADO

Hermelinda Lourdes Delgado, 64, of Baytown was born on February 11, 1939 in Baytown to Canuto and Elvira Campos Delgado. She departed this life on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at her home. Preceded in death by her sister Maria Delgado Magdaleno, niece Kimberly Salinas and nephew Jason Ramirez. She is survived by her parents, brothers Canuto Mario Delgado, Servando Joe Delgado and wife Leticia and Timothy Lawrence Delgado all of Baytown; sisters Rebecca Salinas and husband Rudolph of Baytown and Anna Rosalie Delgado of Houston; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin today at noon, with rosary at 7 p.m. at L.A. Crespo Funeral Directors, 6123 Garth Road. Funeral Liturgy will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church 1907 Carolina Ave. Rev. Dwight M. Canizares officiating. Interment will take place at Forest Park Lawndale at a later date. Those serving as pallbearers: Matthew Montalvo, Jesus Montalvo, III, Albert Magdaleno, Isaiah Magdaleno, Bryan Salinas, Aaron Delgado, Juan Trujillo and Dustin Delgado; Honary pallbearers: the late Jason Ramirez, Jonathan Delgado, Frank Portales, Jr.and Issac Villarreal.

Hermelinda will be remembered as someone that looked out for other and will be missed by the many lives she touched.

BEATRICE FARMER

Beatrice Farmer, 90, went to be with the Lord on July 26, 2003.

Born the daughter of J.Y. and Maggie Stone in January 1913. Beatrice worked for the Independent Pasadena School District for over 30 years. She loved the children at Mae Smythe Elementary School where she worked as a cafeteria worker. In the evenings she enjoyed her sewing and needlework and she always had a beautiful flower garden. In the morning she enjoyed getting up early to read the paper and drink coffee in the company of her beloved cats and dogs. She had been a resident of St. James House in Baytown for the past 6 years. There she had many wonderful friends who called her “Aunt Bea” and she called them “Darling.” She was a member of the Austin Ave. Baptist Church in Pasadena.

Beatrice was predeceased by her husband, Jack Farmer, a daughter, Wanda Sue Carter, brothers, Doc Stone, Payton Stone, Ford Stone, Homer Stone and Charlie Stone.

Beatrice is survived by son, Thomas Farmer and wife Vivian of Friendswood; sister, Maggie Chappel and husband Seburn of Highlands; grandson, Tim and wife Jennifer Carter of Highlands; granddaughter, Mary Kate Grossman and husband Bobby of Granbury, Tx.; and granddaughter Tracy Stanley and husband Jeff of Baytown; great-granddaughter Victoria Stanley of Baytown and great-granddaughter, Taylor Carter of Baytown.

Visitation will be from 5 - 9 p.m. today, July 29, 2003 at Sterling White Chapel.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Sterling White Chapel, 11011 Crosby Lynchburg Rd., with Rev. Billy Joe Tate officiating.

Burial will follow at White Cemetery Highlands.

WILLIAM H. McMICHAEL, JR.

William H. McMichael, Jr. of Baytown, passed away, Sunday, July 27, 2003.

He was born on September 12, 1917 in Fowler, Indiana. He spent numerous years working in the oil field industry and retired from that field. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 30 years. He was a Past Master and a 40 year member of the Baytown Masonic Lodge #1357 and the Triumph Lodge #422 of Louisiana. He was inducted into the Sam Houston Hall of Fame for the Mason work that he did. He also received the Golden trowel award from the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Alice (Elaine) McMichael, son, Jeffrey McMichael and wife Joanne McMichael, daughter, Robin Brown and husband Tony Brown, grandchildren, Samantha and Jonathan McMichael and Michael and Brittany Brown, his brother and sisters, Billy McMichael of Natchez, Miss.; Orra Kleinman of Gonzales La.; Clara Cole of Lake Charles, La.; Ada Deweese of Tallulah, La.; his in-laws, Dorothy and Gene Puckett of Liberty and Edith Colley of Anahuac. He has numerous nieces and nephews. His very special friends are Jim and Ann Smith.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2003 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richard Kleiman officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jeff McMichael and members of Baytown Masonic Lodge #1357.

Masonic graveside services will follow at Anahuac Cemetery in Anahuac.

He was loved by many.

Services are under the direction of Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook, Baytown, 281-422-8111.

DANIEL RAY CORMIER

Daniel Ray Cormier, 39, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 24, 2003.

Born in Orange, Tx on October 24, 1964 the son of Russell and Julie Cormier. Daniel worked for Kelson as a stress reliever on piping for 11 years. He was a volunteer fireman for the Crosby Fire Dept. He was a dispatcher for the EMS for two years. Daniel belonged to the 2JJ’s Bimbo and Friends Barbecue Cook Off Team. His school on welding allowed him to build several barbecue pits. Daniel enjoyed deep sea fishing and hunting. His love was his family, Donna, Brittany, Brigitte and Larissa.

Daniel is preceded in death by his father, Russell Ray Cormier.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Donna Cormier of Crosby; three daughters, Brittany, Brigitte, Larissa Cormier of Crosby; his mother Julie Comeaux of Crosby; two brothers, Stephen Cormier of Crosby; David Cormier of Crosby; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Sterling White Chapel.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2002 at Sterling White Chapel, 11011 Crosby Lynchburg Rd., with Minister Richard George officiating.

Burial will follow at San Jacinto Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sterling White Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby Lynchburg Rd., Highlands, 281-426-3555.
